    My very first concert was Paul Revere and The Raiders. Bought all their albums and Mark was on my wall. Such good memories!

    Really excellent interview -- and the first I've seen with so many actual Raiders participating. I got to spend time with Mark in the late '70s and early '80s and was thoroughly impressed with the guy. The mention of their latest CD at the time is noteworthy; it really is a first-rate compilation. If you get a chance to see Mark Lindsay live, do not pass up the opportunity.

      He is awesome, I saw him at the park in Richland, Wa. In 1992, I believe, and I saw them in Spokane at the Pink Collesium when I was 15, 1971. Also saw the Kingsmen in the park in Richland in 1991, Tommy James was there also that summer

    I enjoyed this very much. Thanks for posting it. It was kind of bittersweet, though. It still saddens me to think of Smitty and Drake being gone. Drake could have been a great DJ. He definitely had the voice for it.

    Why wasn't Paul in the Studio?

    • @zibbyzubb
      @zibbyzubb 8 лет назад +4

      There was some bad blood between Paul and Mark. Paul basically had been touring with other Raiders up until his death.

    • @zibbyzubb
      @zibbyzubb 8 лет назад +3

      I find that hard to believe considering that Mark was the leading creative force behind the groups later albums and hit singles. Their best records in my opinion.

    • @That_AMC_Guy
      @That_AMC_Guy 7 лет назад +3

      Mark would do the Production in the Studio while Paul handled the business end. It's my understanding that the "Bad Blood" between them stemmed from, as Mark would often put it: " a contractual thing..." . From what I've gathered from talking to them is that there was a clause in the Mark Lindsay / Raiders contract that made Mark financially liable for BOTH the Raiders and his solo work. I'll be arbitrary to make my point but say it cost $100,000 each to make a Raiders album and a Mark Lindsay Solo album. That's $200,000 Mark now owes to Columbia Records. Now, say the Lindsay album does amazing and earns $100,000, but the Raiders album tanks and doesn't earn a dime.
      That would then leave Mark on the line still owing $100,000 to Columbia records.
      That would explain why there were only two Mark Lindsay solo albums about that time, Arizona making a fortune, but Alias Pink Puzz and Collage by the Raiders were seen as flops. He could either spread himself too thin and neither would be successful, or, concentrate on one and make it successful. I believe the "bad blood" stemmed from Mark being a little peeved that Paul, who was supposed to be such a great businessman didn't notice that clause in the contract. Eventually, because Columbia decided to drop the Raiders and Lindsay, they wound up having to buy him out of the contract. But, I'm sure he still lost a truckload of money in the process. Not to mention the loss of control of the music as well.
      While Mark has his own vault full of tapes, demos from his own work, Paul would tell me that Columbia (now, Sony/BMG or whatever) is the sole owner of the multitracks, the masters, and everything Raiders related. So, in essence, Mark now has to pay to gain access to what he wrote/created in the first place.
      Why wasn't Paul present for this interview? I believe he was touring Europe at the time with his version of The Raiders.

    • @zibbyzubb
      @zibbyzubb 7 лет назад +3

      Alfred, that is amazing info. From what you say, Mark pretty much got screwed. I remember reading somewhere, perhaps in the liner notes of Mark's complete Columbia recordings CD on the Real Gone Music label, that Mark had a bombshell dropped on him when he went into Columbia to collect a royalty check and was told he did not have one coming due to the lack of sales of Raiders records. And that was just after the huge success of Indian Reservation! So, I believe what you wrote about the contractual bad blood.

    • @zibbyzubb
      @zibbyzubb 7 лет назад

      lenspaulding And you know these things how? Sounds like you have some sort of twisted vendetta against Mark Lindsay. Did he refuse to sign an autograph for you or something? No excuse for libel and slander.
