- Mark Lindsay, former lead singer of Paul Revere & The Raiders, talks about his move to Nashville to produce new music. *Mark's dark glasses are prescription glasses, as he explains @7:18.*
I absolutely loved Paul Revere And The Raiders! They had great songs like Kicks, Hungry, etc. They were the first rock show I ever saw when I was 11 or 12 and I fell in love with them.
I've been a fan of the Raiders since I was 12, in '67. I'm now 60, and still crank up the Raiders every chance I get, which is often, lol. Mark has always been a Class Act. :)
Remember The Raiders in late 65 with "kicks" , and my friends bro. Drafted , then sent to Nam.
So underrated my god they deserve to be in the rock n roll Hall of fame 128 tv appearances
Very down to earth and modest guy. Proves that there were and are some really nice people in the music business.
Great dude , and great group on "Paul Revere and The Raiders"!
Snuck backstage at Knotts Berry Farm. About pissed myself met him and so happy
I had a very deep crush on Mark Lindsay when I was in grade school and junior high school. He has a wonderful singing voice!
me too.... *sigh*
and those Revolutionary outfits :")
Remember all too well. First rock group I loved! Have to say I had a crush on Mark Lindsey back then. Went to my first concert in Wichita, caught the drumstick and was happy as a lark!!!!
Paul Revere and the Raiders had some very good songs. I bought many of their 45s in the '60s. Their comedy antics kinda
erased them from rock and roll history. Paul Revere died Saturday so I'm reflecting on their memory.
Love this interview! Great job Mark...
Cool!! Another Interview with the legendary Mark Lindsay! Thanks for posting.
Wow he sounded awesome
What a great singer and talent he was!!
@eighta peach And he still is. Very much alive and still touring. www.marklindsay.com/
Paul Revere and the Raiders,a great band.Mark had a great career as a solo artist.
@@aliceshaw8265 "Arizona" in 1969 was the biggest reaching no. 10 on the Billboard charts. He also had some mid chart singles "Silver Bird", "Miss America" and a song written by Neil Diamond "And The Grass Won't Pay No Mind"
@@aliceshaw8265 Miss America, Arizona !
I see him every summer at the Happy Together concert. Still puts on a great performance.
Always loved Mark, still do.
Awesome SINGER. GREAT LOOKING
Mark Lindsay . . . the best of the best of the best. Why on earth isn't the original band, Paul Revere and the Raiders (with Mark and Mike Smith and Drake Levin) in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame??? They were one of the greatest bands of the late 60s . . . and they could do it LIVE. (They didn't need studio tricks to create that fabulous sound.)
I so agree
Kicks was a great song that has passed the time test with flying colors. I think it was as good as anything the stones did. Paul revere and the raiders should be in the rock and roll hall of fame and it's down right weird that they aren't.
I was so in love with Mark Lindsey
He was gorgeous as well as talented
The fact that they are not in the Rock N Roll Hall of fame just indicates that its an invalid and self recognized institution. 2000 television appearances and many hits songs.... what does it take?
I love you Mark hon!
I lived down the road from this guy
OMG! Lorianne Crook was one lucky gal! Thank you for posting this!! Love it. He seems really down to earth.
Great interview. Good looking talented man with a level head on his shoulder. I get to see him this summer in concert! Met him some years ago - he was very kind and sweet.
One of my favorite Groups
Well, looks like he still has it! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Mark is great looking, sexy. Great, great singer.
By the way, Mark looks cool with the shades!
Mark and Paul were icons
Yes, Mark is STILL gorgeous and his voice is still amazing! But the bad news (well, good news for him...) is that he's been married to Deborah (Brandt) since 1989. No children, they travel quite a bit. He still wears glasses, but not as dark as years ago. If you do a search here, you will see live clips from this year! :)
The dark glasses were probably due to his treatment for a detached retina. Now we can see his gorgeous eyes again
He's still cute 💜💜💜
Thanks for posting these very interesting interviews of Mark Lindsay! Today March 9, I posted some of your interviews on my Facebook page as a tribute to Mark! Take care, Ron
Thanks Ron! Can't believe he's 75 and still goin' strong!!
I used to troll Music Row praying I'd see Mark walk by!
Did Mark Lindsey ever get into an automobile accident or assaulted, because those are two ways you can suffer a detached retina. I still like his music and that of Paul Revere and the Raiders. They deserve to be in the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame.
detached retinas can just happen walking down the street. son-in-law has had 5 eye surgeries since Aug. to try to reattach his and the retina specialists he has seen tell himsome people are predisposed to the retina detaching, just genetics.
My dad had detached reinas and had surgery to repair them. It just happens to some people.
Saw PR&R open for the Beach Boys in Seattle in 69 or 70. Should be in the R&R Hall of Fame. Shame on them. Mark is 82 now. Paul died in 2014. RIP Paul, Smitty and Drake. Who am I forgetting.
Really liked the raiders an Indian reservation is surely 1 song I would never flip the radio channel when that song on. Also never new the Arizona song was sung by Lindsay when he was still lead singer of raiders an not in hall of fame. The Cleveland rock hall is a joke. The legend bands not in an 2 hit wonders in oh I'll not mention there names . Rock hall of fame talk about. Gtfooh
This is Crook and Chase, who are talk show hosts based outta Nashville
Good point... I don't know of any injury he had. Retinal disorders can lead to this, and he's had a lifetime of vision problems, so that's most likely the cause. Lately, he's been able to wear lighter tinted lenses when performing! And YES, PR&tR's DO belong in the Hall Of Fame!!
Mark is still very much alive and will be touring this summer!! What 'cover hit' are you referring to? As far as I know, Mark or the Raiders never covered anything by Chris Kenner.
That silver medallion looked a bit like the one he's wearing on the "Silver bird" album cover, though that was 1970.
OOO WOW!!! ML !!!! GOD BLESS HIM!!!! LOOKING GOOD...STILL HANDSUM:)XXXX!!!
IS HE MARRIED? CHILDREN? DOING ANYTHING ABOUT HIS EYES?...YUP!!! I"M STILLLLL CRAZZEE ABOUT THE "OL BOY" :)XX!!.....& THIS CLIP WAS....30+ yrs ago???? OMG!
My first real crush! Used to kiss his pics every night before bed.
Mark Lindsay looks so different there.Wow
I wonder why they don't do the Paul Revere years like they do the Beatles? Or even the Rolling Stones perhaps the longest lived Rock n' roll/pop band of today?
I wonder if Mark still talks to Leslie Evans or Jerilyn Stapleton from Where the Action Is..
where's his pony tail!! love it..
why did he always where shades in his later years his eyes were one of his biggest attributes
Mark has stated in interviews that he always had poor vision... had to wear thick glasses when he was young. (Embarrased, so didn't wear them on tv and he could barely see, lol!) In later years, he suffered detached retinas that required surgery... has had to wear special glasses/contacts since then.
Take off the 😎
@@ellencocke1394 He most likely had to wear them (see my above comment). They do kinda look like prescription shades.
When I saw them Mark came over I had front row seats and I took a pic. Blinded him
I didn't know
He didn't come back there
But it WAS a great close up
They probably just tuned down a half step, not an infrequent occurrence. No need for a capo, or less than ergonomic fretting, and without much resonant loss.
At 2:24, why in the world would she want to let go of him?
Lori, I loved him, too.
he is still HOT!!!
HELL yea
Take your sunglasses off in the house Mark.
T. Watterson - Mark has had a lifetime of eye/vision problems, including detached retinas. Most likely they are prescription glasses.
@@60s70sVintageRock I apologize. I didn't know and never heard the that. I've been a fan of PR & the Raiders since the 1960's. I don't think I've ever seen Mark inside wearing sunglasses.
He explains that at 7:15 if you listened you would not have posted
Looks ready to team up with Crockett and Tubbs.
KAREN...the glasses WERENT a COOL EFFECT....THEY WERE NESSARY!!!
What's with the sunglasses?
Look below for ev dallas's similar question on this thread. It's answered there. 😉
At 7:18 he says it himself "I've got my glasses on, can't see without them, this is not my Roy Orbison impression, by the way. These are prescription glasses, look, folks" & takes them off for a second to show how thick they are
big star
I rwmember that he had to wear really thick glasses. He shouldn't have been able to wear contacts, but his deforned corneas permitted it.
Where was this televised at?
@Hug Bug The 'Crook and Chase' talk show out of Nashville
@@60s70sVintageRock Yes, I've rrad about Marc residing in the Nashville area .
When did Marc Lindsay pass away?
@@hugbug4408 Don't know where you heard that that he died. Although he's not presently touring, Mark Lindsay is very much alive and well. And he's living in Florida with his wife, Deb.
@@60s70sVintageRock I thought I saw a R IP note dealing with his history ! Maybe I was too tired from not getting enough sleep .
As I'm writing this Just like Me tune drops in! Ha! Remember this late 67 early 68 , maybe? Whatever, the song brings me back to my juvenille deliquent days at 9-13 years old. Another long ass story that nobody in this world has any god given time to listen to!
@@hugbug4408 The single 'Just Like Me' was released way back in '65... how time passes, lol. Glad Mark is still with us... Thanks for commenting!
I think I see an ear ring sparkling. Do I? I have never noticed that before.
@Donna Bell There's something on his earlobe, but it could be the lighting/poor quality film. (If you watch his 1970 vid "Miss America," the film was so bad, it looked like something was hanging from his nose!) Anyway... this was the 80s so I guess anything's possible, lol.
Donna Bell It does look like an ear ring
Why the dark glasses?
@ssan3257 - Mark's had a lifetime of eye/vision problems including detached retinas. He even said in the interview at @7:18 that they are prescription glasses.
Is he still alive?
Very much so, came out with a new cd earlier this year!

Charlie Sheen
The original writer singer of his cover hit came from and I believe recorded in Nashville.CHRIS KENNER . I didn't know the tune until Wilson Pickett. I believe Marks Lindsay just passed away! I must have gotten him confused, so many passed
What’s with the sun glasses?
@Paulyne VanderSloot Mark has had a lifetime of vision/eye problems, including detached retinas. Those are most likely prescription glasses.

I always loved this guy.....but in 1988 this was not hot. I can't believe no one told him to ditch the socks, or he didn't heed the advice. wow
EXACTLY SMH
Chase the crook. 😃
Eh.., he wasn't giving it to her, he was giving the medal or coin back to the guy who found it 20 years ago. A little self-absorbed isn't she.
'Jimmy' never said he wanted it back. Besides, if Mark wanted to return it, he would've given it right back to Charlie, not Lorianne. She even thanks him at the end for the 'momento.'
+60s70sVintageRock - Mark comes off as a really thoughtful and polite guy, I would have a hard time believing him being inconsiderate and and regifting, for lack of a better word, something I'm sure Jimmy wouldn't want to give back other than the fact that it was the right thing to do since here was Mark after all these years. Loraine just happened to be closest to him when he handed it back. And it wouldn't have been his place or style to correct her when she claimed it, totally awkward. Even Charlie had enough sense to tell her that Jimmy is gonna fight you for that. And yeah at the end she still was clueless when she thanked him for it. Whatever, she's a goofball.
tuncakstar
He IS a super nice guy, and yeah... that would have been totally awkward for both those guys... on air... to make her give it back, lol!
He's a extremely nice guy. I should know he lives in my home town and i talked to him a month ago. His wife owns a Gift shop (Northern Tides) in Lubec Maine right up the street from me. He's on the road touring a lot but he's a humble regular guy. He was taking his trash out to the curb when i walked up to him to tell him about the time i was on restriction the night Paul Revere and the Raiders aired on the Ed Sullivan show and i sneaked downstairs to watch it and got caught and had to take a whooping with the belt by my Pop. He said "Oh man, now that's a dedicated Fan" and "Well i'm sure sorry for the Punishment" to which i answered "It was very worthwhile". He stood there for at least 20 minutes talking to me.
@@luannmblueheart9316 You are correct. Mark and Deb married a year later... July, 1989! However, the Oprah show you mentioned starred Mark, Davy Jones, Fabian, and Paul Peterson. 😊 Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/SRL2UyiZFQM/видео.html
Looks a little like Tom Cruise.
Mark, where you get those horrible shoes and that Sonny Crockett (Miami Vice) type suit...... Gees, we need to talk wardrobe Bunky.

Lol
KICKS was, indeed, a great song and Lindsay was a talented and popular lead singer. I saw him around 2006 and he seemed a bit disoriented. I strongly suspected dark glasses were less for an eye condition than the after effect of drug use during the heavy rock years.
@William Overly Maybe you just caught him on a bad night... all entertainers have them, you know. I've seen him multiple times since the 80's and never found him to be 'disoriented.' Don't know where you get your info on the Raiders' 'drug use' or what you consider to be the 'heavy rock years.' ('Kicks' was an anti-drug song btw.) I'm sure they indulged a bit, but It was fact that Dick Clark didn't sign on to performers that were into drugs. If you followed him online, you'd know that Mark's had a lifetime of vision problems, including surgeries for retinal problems. Hence the dark glasses from the late 80's to recent years. Also fact that he's an avid runner and has always lead a healthy lifestyle.
@@60s70sVintageRock
l yield to your assessment, Vin. You could be totally correct. I saw him during a performance at a college. It may have just been all the traveling and, yes, I do agree they never seemed to have any controversy over drugs, (although during the 60s and 70s drug use by rock groups was, indeed, prevalent. Janis Joplin, Jiimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, even the Stones and the Beatles all were into it). I may have been assuming something that was inaccurate about the Raiders. Thank you for your response. Frankly, I loved their music and was a fan. I thought KICKS and INDIAN NATION were two of their best, and Mark was a great lead singer.
@@williamoverly1617 Yes, there's been some inaccurate info floating around out there. When I was about 13, the Raiders were my favorite group next to the Beatles! Mark has been super busy touring these past few years and the only issue he's had was about a year ago... he had to get a pacemaker due to a heart rhythm disorder. But otherwise in great health... at 77! The best place to get accurate info is on his website: www.marklindsay.com/ or his FB page where he and his wife post almost daily: facebook.com/marklindsay. Thanks for replying!! 😊
