@@MishMashMoto Back in the late 70's I had a Kawasaki KE 100. Of all the bikes I've had, it was the most fun. I wonder if the XR150 would be similar, light, flickable, ideal with supple longish suspension for back roads with their imperfections?
@@johnl5974 I owned a 2 stroke oil injected KE100 in the mid 90’s. She and I both rode it around off road back then. The XR150 is much more refined then the KE was. Power is different of course since it’s a 4 stroke. I like the XR better for daily use but that powerband sure was fun!!! Per the spec sheet numbers it looks heavy for a 150cc but it’s pretty nimble and fun just like the old KE100 was IMO.
That was funny. Thanks for the racing videos. My 125cc KYMCO scooter would beat a stock Grom in acceleration but not miles per gallon. I would switch to the XR150 solely for the smoother ride over bad roads. Three and seven tenths inches of suspension travel with twelve inch diameter wheels means having a bumpy ride on bad roads.
For me, it is the wheel diameter that would make the decision, at least if I intended to use one for practical transportation rather than as a toy. Taller wheels deal better with potholes and broken pavement.
Small bikes, big fun! I'm xr all the way. We have the 17/49 stock sprocket combination. I changed the front to 16 and made a difference a bit to become "drag spec". Lol!
I also have a one tooth smaller front sprocket on my XR150, for the last 3 years (here in darkest Africa) Slight improvement in acceleration with no negative effect on top speed, probably 'cause it now has the lower ratio to overcome the wind resistance at the top end. Honda sure got their sums wrong with this one alright.
Some more feedback, as this excellent review focused mainly on the drag race aspect - my very similar 2015 model XR150L has a top speed of 70mph, here at the coast in South Africa. It's happy to cruise at 55mph all day. I weigh about 165lbs.
The word, "better" can't be applied here, because we haven't defined in what categories. Each has a special fit in the market and each has its strong points and weak points.
We think it comes down to personal preference. We dont believe that one is “better” than the other however, the Grom owner is considering trading it in on the XR.
Yeah, loss of traction due to lack of heat 🤣 Good one!!! I love it!!! Seriously though, I should’ve slipped the clutch a little longer (had a little less flywheel mass/inertia then I expected and I bogged it out bad on the starting line).
I am the guy, I am actually pretty good at it but this race was not planned and my first time doing it on this bike. I screwed the pooch for sure though. 🤣
Yep, both are small cc bikes and good for beginners IMO. I have several bikes and choose to ride this little bike often because it’s just fun and simple.
nice comparison, love the video and positivity!
Thank you.
The guy on the grom is tucking sooooo hard lololol
He is very talented and obviously competitive too.
That was street performance. Next should be off road.
🤣 He would probably keep up with me on that Grom. He is a skilled and talented rider.
Have to swap bikes ..driver weight can be a big difference
It'll take a while to get the smile off my face watching this.
Us too! Lol!

The XR suspension is very nice with my 225lbs on board.

XR Supermoto!
@@lorenzovillegas2457 Been thinking about that all week long!!!
That was fun to watch!
Glad you enjoyed it! We had fun making it 😎
in which country is this motorcycle manufactured?
Assembled in Mexico with parts sourced from many other places. Sold in the USA 🇺🇸
Small bikes are so much fun!
Yep, small bikes really are the most fun. We like our big and powerful bikes also, but we find ourselves on the small bikes much more often.
Good job. Nice comparison.
Thanks, we try. We thought this would give people some help with expectations of this bike’s real world performance.
Nice video very interesting.Thanks.
What was the top speed on the 150
We have seen a maximum of 64 MPH (downhill with a tailwind) 🤣

Modified mine with a Chinese PZ28 CARB and AFTERMARKET CRF150 EXHAUST and got to 67 on a completely flat surface with no wind
200 pound rider no windscreen will hit 55 in 76 miles

Yes give the people what we really want to see!
A rematch with the Lady?
I am enjoying your videos
The trouble with the Grom is ladies mistaking it for one of those cans you put sanitary napkins in.
They need to switch bikes! I'm disappointed the XR125 doesn't have faster acceleration
Yes! Great idea.
It's a 150
Very NICE!
Are they the same motors?
No, they are completely different engines. Only 25cc difference but the construction is all different.
Well they're both air-cooled 2 valve 4 stroke 5 speed the newer grom with the 5 speed
Thank you,
Your Welcome Phillip! We had some fun with this one!
Intake, performance cam and aftermarket exhaust grom eats xr150l all day
Agreed! Wonder what would happen if you keep it equal and do the same to the XR also?
Honda wins again! We all win when hoards of smaller displacement bikes hit the scene.
Yep
Tires need to warm up on the XR150L :)

Fun!!!!
put the big guy on the grom next time
We will try to make that happen sometime.
Now take both out on the interstate and see how they do mixing it up with the 18 wheelers.
Well, that’s not ideal or fun on either of these two bikes! We use the Goldwing and CBR for that. 😎
@@MishMashMoto Indeed (might choose an interceptor) but I know which one I would use between the two. 😊
rider weight on the 150 crushed it from a dead dig.
Yep, He launched like a greyhound after a rabbit and I was off like a herd of turtles 🐢 🤣
I understand that some people don't enjoy others riding their bikes and vice versa but it's a good idea to eliminate "rider errors" 😅
race it against a pcx 150 scooter or a adv 150
Don’t know anybody with one
I would think the xr might be geared lower for off road
It’s a 17/49 tooth setup. Its geared about right for all around usage. Changing to a 16 tooth front should be much better for off-road performance.
Curios about the weight difference with the two bikes and riders .
A lot! Seriously about 100lbs
@@MishMashMoto which was heavier with rider… the XR?
@@lorenzovillegas2457 XR but not by a lot 🤣
The ole Power to Weight ratio again. I
Tell the XR rider he needs to hone his starting line skills. Maybe he could take some lessons from Don ( the snake) purdomm.
Agreed, I blew the start twice! My buddy can holeshot like a jack rabbit also!!!
Yeah you keep doing what you can to make the XR 150 look bad. Who will want to buy a full size motorcycle that is slower than the Grom???
Weight matters on small cc bikes. The XR is slightly faster with all things being equal.
Guy on the xr needs to learn how to do a hole shot (ride)
