1974 Honda CB750 Project Bike (with a story to tell). Episode 1
I know it's been a while since our last video, but life got a little crazy for us, and the focus was elsewhere. I wanted to pick up a winter project and stumbled across this bike in south Louisiana.
It was affordable, and after a little discussion with the seller, I felt like the bike needed to be completed and that there is a story here that needs to be told. It may take me a while to finish up, but I fully intend to complete what someone else had started so many years ago.
I know I will have some questions about this one as we go, but I welcome and encourage advice, tips, and tricks from the CB750 enthusiasts to help me out with this project. Thanks in advance! 🇺🇸

Honda XR150L exhaust mod. for good flow and without it being loud. Spark Arrestor Removal.
Просмотров 442Месяц назад
This is just how we did it on our 2 bikes. It works very well in my opinion and keeps the bike quiet (similar to stock). If you do this mod your bike will no longer be "Spark Arrestor" legal or compliant. 613builds on RUclips also has a really good idea on how to do it. Go check out his page to see how he did his. He basically drilled lots of holes in the tube for less restriction. Our way, may...
8N Ford Tractor Starter Hard to Install? Bendix Drive Reset Trick. The method that worked for me
Просмотров 369Месяц назад
I hope this video will help someone avoid all the trouble I had. My old bendix drive used the clip style retainer and failed. I bought an old starter as a spare years ago and used the good bendix from it. The bendix was locked out, I couldn't install it out or reset it by any of the other spinning methods. This is what worked for me.

Joe's goal was to make it look more like an older SL-100 model Honda. Great job Joe! 👍🏼👍🏼😎 Below is his narrative of all the changes he made to the XR150L: Most added parts came from e-bay. First thing to go were the tank shrouds (that’s what they are called in the parts list). The tank is too beautiful to hide. I found Honda badges that fit right on the shroud attach points on the tank. I repl...

Honda XR150L experiment (Part 1) Carburetor adapter boring and match porting to the PZ30

Just testing this out on the stock engine bore size. I am really doing it in preparation for installation of a big bore kit that will need more airflow in this area and was curious how it might affect the performance of the stock engine. It has worked out well for me on the stock engine in conjunction with a PZ30 carburetor but it’s easy to mess up and may cost you money if done wrong! Disclaim...

They work great 👍
@@notavailable1027 I have not had a chance to try it yet. Is yours on a stock Honda 150 engine? What jetting?
You're starting this one as the fall season ushers in some cooler air - nice touch when you're working hard. You've got my attention on this one b/c my parents friends had a Honda 750four ! I remember him in our front yard revving the hell outta that bike & letting me twist the throttle some. I want to say it was 1970/71( I was 8-9) but the word, "four" was on a little metal triangular piece on each side below the seat level, might have been the cover for something? Anyhoo, now you've got me reminiscing the 1st motorcycle I revved hard. Exciting for a boy of my age = still would be today ?! Yup, peace
@diggy-d8w I love the old 4 cylinder bikes. I rode a CB550 and a 750 Nighthawk for a long time. Always wanted a SOHC CB750 and this bike deserves to be completed. Thanks for watching.
Whenever I see a bike I think of the elongated seats(not like this one) but the long seat where a passenger sat behind you on the same seat & level. And then the fuel tanks as they were metal & weren't much higher than the seat in many bikes. I delivered pizza on an old Honda CB360 & I could carry 2 large pizzas in a hot bag w/ a 6-pack of cokes. I laid the pizza between my stomach & the tripletree which laid flat on the gas tank. Quick little bike until I did a botanical study of the undergrowth = crashed hard ! Never drink -n- ride ! When I think of motorcycles I think of bikes like this one you're about to do. Big job & I'll be watching ~ never know when I might find one & I'd want it restored. These are what a bike is supposed to be..... shows my age but it's alright ~ I'll get younger watching you do this job. peace
@diggy-d8w Great story and advice! It will be a task to get it road ready for sure. I grew up fixing and ridding bikes like this in early 90's. Back then, motorcycles that didn't run were normally sold for 50 cents a cc (or less). I just hope the engine is good (I have not checked to see if it's free or not yet). Probably need to put some MMO (Marvel's Mystery Oil) in the cylinders today.
Ohh really, you gonna turn her over already? I guess there's no time like the present & you do need to know if she'll break free? Do you pour some oil down into the spark plug hole or get at the top end by another means? I actually am glad you've popped back up w/ this bike, what you can do to any new bike is kinda limited & every channel trying to launch as a big channel seem to wheel/deal bikes, MOD them Out, let friends or you wreck them, then rebuild it. Now you'll be doing this w/ bike after bike so you'll need a sidekick to wreck your crap so you can rebuild them but we come for a very cheap price = the bike wrecking crew. Kidding but I genuinely love the old bikes like the one you found. Take your time so we can enjoy it. peace man
@diggy-d8w Yeah, it's been sitting since 2004 I think (about 20 years anyway). I like to use Marvel's Mystery Oil and squirt it down into the cylinders through the spark plug holes to help free up the piston rings and lubricate the bore. I plan to show most of my personal process for doing this type of work. Everyone will have their opinion about this or that and what current product is better and that's OK. I just do what has always worked out well for me in the past. I can't afford a constant rotation of new motorcycles and have no plans on going into debt to do so just for some extra RUclips views. RUclips doesn't pay my bills, so it's not a huge priority right now.. Sure, we make a little money with them and it would be nice to make more and even live off of it one day. That day is not today though. In order for us to make better videos and better audio, we need to make a fairly large investment on equipment and computer stuff. My thoughts are that our RUclips channel needs to support itself, so what we make from them will go back into new Auido/video gear. When we have enough income from videos is when we will make that investment back into the channel.
Damn you had me worried before Charles appeared to help! I could just see CATASTROPHY written all over that beginning part of unloading. And please tell me you're not planning on using that king and queen seat! How did we ever survive the early 70's motorcycle fads?? 🤣
@michaelc3416 Haha yeah, I really needed to get it unloaded so I could use the truck again. It was quickly apparent that I had to call for some help though. It will get a different seat for actual use but maybe that one gets put on for a bike show or something.
Nice -- good to see you back on the big screen ... well ... little screen 😉 Hope you heal up soon !
@JTinGA Thank you! I will get over it sooner or later...
Tank is beautiful!!
@DustySteel Agreed, someone will tell the story about this bike before to long.

Thank you 🙏🏻
@lindenjrashby8619 Your welcome!
Great video. Question: why wouldn't you want to bump the other jet to a 38? And what issue could that cause? Thank you in advance!
@jjjfffppp It's actually probably a good idea. I originally said that because I was told the factory carb. didn't have an adjustment for the idle mixture. It does! I tried a 38 without adjusting and it was to rich on my bike. With adjusting, it should be fine. Hope that helps explain things.
Great information on this bike i am at sea level, so the 115 should work?
@JuzikoPersaud That's what I would do at sea level to a factory carb. Other good inexpensive options are the PZ27 or PZ30 carb. swap. (more involved to do). I made a video but I can't get it to load for some reason.
When u put on the pz27 do u have to adjust the fuel screw
@JuzikoPersaud Every engine and carburetor will respond slightly differently. I have no way of knowing how yours will work out. I have not personally tested the PZ27, but I know people overseas have done it and liked it. There should be some good videos on the PZ27/XR150L combo here on RUclips.
Thanks mate for an excellent and in depth maintenance video. Safe travels from the Philippines
@ctydecks You are very welcome, we are glad you enjoyed it.
Hit a patch of sand while doing 30 or so with the stock tires and just about pooped my pants!😂
@dylanhunt8742 It happens, sand can be tricky and especially when not expected. Done that myself many times.
mine has 4 line so it gos a T then 2 lines like half a inch then 2 more lines
Where did you get the amp from because this JUST happend to me
@That_92_chevy I replaced ours with the same amp rating that the factory had originally installed. The fuses are marked with the amp rating.
So to check oil levels on an XR150l. You are actually suppose to not screw the dip stick in. Sorry I don’t mean to sound condescending
@@grantplaster3858 That's what the owners manual says.
Much appreciated sir! Saved me a lot of money
@braynmaldonadolopez6495 Glad it helped you.
No oil filter?
@RobertYonng Not exactly, it has an internal "centrifugal filter" (sludge trap) like the older single cylinder Hondas used. It should be cleaned every 7,500 miles. I actually need to do it on our 2 bikes and make a video on how to do it.
Thank you for the great and informative video. It would be amazing if you did a video explaining more about how the secondary air and emissions system works and the vent hoses, etc. Have always been curious about this.
Thank you good sir
@@foxdemon4209 You are very welcome.
Thanks for the info. Next weekend is my turn to have one. I’ll be 13 years old again 😃. My first bike, 1973 SL125. worked all summer long, Dad matched my $$. Boom! ✌🏻
@rickbachman993 You're going to love this bike! My first enduro/dual sport was a clean used maroon and white 1981 Yamaha XT250. I thought it was the coolest thing ever to be able to ride to the trails and ride the trails with the same bike. Can't wait for your youth to kick back into gear next weekend. 👍🏼👍🏼
You can tell that you’ve done it before; wearing gloves and you have the roll on a spindle. My choice of position for this type of job also lol.
@DustySteel I tried to get them to wear gloves too. You see what I what I did though. I have wrapped my share over the years.
I used to do this for on my way to school up north, where they don’t close schools for even a foot of snow.😎👍
It’s like the snake version of Turbo!!🤣 Whoa; that snake is fast!!
Thank you for this. I am just now coming up on my 2500 miles soon. I noticed you mention testing new carb jet sizes. I am in Kansas City (I think roughly 600ft sea level). Taking out the snorkel and running a 110 main jet or at least bumping up to a 108 does a lot for your torque. Some people had nice results with a 38 pilot as well, depending on how open the exhaust and intake system is overall
I believe the extra airflow is healthier for the engine as well, in hot weather and at sustained upper rpm range, the engine can overheat at stock settings. Since opening mine up I haven’t had this issue anymore
@Crash-mi8os The 115 main jet adds even more torque in the low/midrange and runs much cooler on the road at speed. The MPG will go down slightly. On the stock carb. and at about 600' I would suggest you try the 115 main jet at least.
@Crash-mi8os BTW, if you go with the 38 pilot be sure to free up access to your idle fuel adjustment screw so you can fine tune the idle mixture. You will also need a "single D" type adjustment tool ($5-$10 on Amazon).
@@MishMashMotoI might try 115/35. Last time I tried 115 with 38 and it felt bad. I am thinking too rich. 110/38 feels just right. I might try 115/35 though now that you mention it. I did tinker a bit with the idle already and it seems to be doing just fine. Edit- I should add I added a full new exhaust system as well as taking out the snorkel
@Crash-mi8os Try the 115/35, I think you may like it. If not, go with whatever works best for your bike. Be sure to pull the welch plug out to gain access for the mixture screw (I wasn't clear on if you did that or not yet).
weak audio… I guess I need to be in a quiet room rather than a car passenger with road noise….
@qisanqi Getting good audio was hard for us to figure out (still trying to improve it with each new video). Thank you for watching the video regardless of the poor audio quality. We really do appreciate it. 👍🏼👍🏼
hahah you got me with the intro
@@NickandLauraTravel I thought it was funny 🤣
@@MishMashMoto oh heck it is 🤣
I'm having trouble finding 110/90-17 also crazy I'm having issues like that on my stock tires at about 45mph lol there's a bit of a wobble 😅 are these tires stock size and am I going to have to modify the bike? I was worried I would have to get new rims then re do tires
@@13194dragon They are close to the stock tire sizes. They fit on the motorcycle with no modifications or clearance issues. Good tire option for the XR150L.
Actually, no, you are also lubricating the direct metal to metal contact from the sprockets to the chain. It’s lubrucating the o rings, sure. But that’s not it…
Agreed
Gear oil lubricares well in an enclosure. But it’s a magnet for dirt. The spray on motorcycle chain lube is very thin when spraying, but dries tacky and way less dirt sticks once it’s done. Ty tho.
Agreed
Great video, now I'm excited, those roads look like what I ride here in the Yosemite area which I've been doing on the DRZ400 but it gets heavy for me sometimes. We have a lot, too many ruts too. I've enjoyed the Honda on the pavement a lot except up some of our steep hills, but hey, I enjoy the scenery at a slower pace. Re-jetting did help a lot! I did have the chance to ride some dirt in Wyoming on it, it felt great. Now, that we're getting below 100 degrees here, I'm looking fwd to really getting out in the forest on the Honda. I still have stock tires, but like you, keeping them until it's time to get new ones. Got a great skid plate now too. Btw, I found a great RAM GoPro mount I really love for the handle bars, but I don't do audio while riding. Enjoying all your videos, it's been a while since I checked out your latest! Ride On!
@yosemitemotorsportadventur8562 DRZ400's are nice bikes. I had a DR350SE and absolutely loved it! We have been busy with some other stuff lately and have not gotten a chance to ride recently. Hopefully, we can get back to ridding some again soon. The bikes are still ready to roll when we get ready to use them again. We plan to head your way at some point, maybe we can ride together some when we do.
@MishMashMoto I just read your comment on the PZ30 carb, cool! I'm probably just going to keep both bikes. I crashed on my DRZ in the dirt- deep sand 18 months ago, cracked a rib & got a blood clot in my leg. I then realized I needed something smaller & lighter in the dirt & more practice. So, now I'm nervous too. I love love DRZ on highways. I'm in my mid 60's so going to not get crazy in dirt, just forest service roads & easy trails. I'll stick to my Polaris RZR for narly stuff! I do get on that Honda & just forget I'm on a motorcycle, it's so nimble & easy....no stress!
@yosemitemotorsportadventur8562 Sorry to hear about your accident. Unfortunately, crashes can happen if you ride, We have had our share of them too over the years. I don't ever plan to sell my XR150L because it really is a perfect bike for easy everyday riding. I ride mine in the yard, into town, in the woods, and even across state lines. 🤣 Don't sell it, you would regret it I think.
@MishMashMoto def not selling it, too much fun to ride! It will help me get my confidence back in the dirt too!
@@yosemitemotorsportadventur8562 Solid plan! 👍🏼👍🏼
I absolutely love my hondaxr150l for putting around, but I didn't think about how many hills there are where I ride near Yosemite. It's such a slug going up hill. I finally got on my DRZ400S the other day, I'd forgotten what it felt like to have some power😂. But, I'm keeping my honda too. It's been a really hot summer, but cooling off so I can go play on dirt roads in the forest which is what I bought it for. Ill be curious to see how this turns out though!
@yosemitemotorsportadventur8562 Spoiler Alert: Switching to the PZ30 carb. made a HUGE difference on hill climbing power for the road! Pulling the airbox restrictor, doing the port matching, and the exhaust mod all helped also. The only downside with the PZ30 is that you will lose some of your very low rpm throttle response (bad for going up hills at near idle rpm). I made a few videos on all of this, but I can't post them due to some technical issues. Hopefully I can get this resoved at some point
Great Video, will save me a bunch of $$ DYI. How much wider was the Shinko 2.75x19 wider than the stock 90/90/19 stock front tire? I am assuming 2.75 is in inches and 90 (stock size) in in mm, but a conversion brings it to 3.5". Is the new tire really 3/4" narrower, it did not look like in the video but I did not see a shot comparing the 2 side by side, thanks.
@GaryG-g6u 90÷25.4=3.54" mathematically, and it is slightly narrower. I didn't actually measure the difference in the widths, but it's probably 1/2" or so in real life if compared to the stock tread widths at the widest point. It handles very well with the 2.75" 244 up front, IMO. I hope that helps you out some.
So I would like to know with all your porting and new carb and exhaust mods . What is your top speed now , As I have not made up my mind to just port the head or Dusty's very nice big valve head , I have checked with Honda Canada and a stripped factory head was a astonishing expensive $700 cad ., I did remind them that was almost 1/6 the cost of the whole bike . So the big valve head may be a good alternative for the money . I am looking for 65 mph to 70 mph as most hwys in Canada are 100 klms. or 62 mph . Great vids to you and Dusty . I have the 222cc kit already and the new SS exhaust and silencer carb to be decided later . Out the door the XR150L in Canada came to $5300. 2023 . Thanks guys and gals .
@philipcloutier2553 I can do 65mph (Flat out) on the factory engine with all of my mods (remember I am about 220lbs). Top speed isn't the real gain with my mods. However, acceleration and increased torque have been greatly improved. I generally cruise at about 55-60mph on the road after my mods. You will lose some very low-end throttle response with the larger pz30 and intake porting when done to the factory engine size. A big bore kit would be the solution to restore the loss in throttle response. For a true 65mph cruising speed, I would suggest a big bore of 64-70 mm and a larger intake valve of 34-37mm (along with carb/exhaust/intake mods). Side note: I no longer get that weird vibration between 47-53 mph after I installed the PZ30. I hope that helps you make a good decision on what you need to do with yours. Keep us posted on how your build works out. Good luck with your endeavors.
@@MishMashMoto Thanks ever so much for your response . Do you think it has more torque and might pull a higher gear . I as well am over your wieght and I top out at 62 maybe 63 on a completely stock setup , in perfect wind conditions . Are you and your beautiful wife thinking about a 222cc kit or similar kit yourselves as I value your opion greatly . Maybe a simple rev delete kit might do the XR150L the same benefits the Navi obtained. Maybe I should just see if I can import the fabled XR190L . I can't give up I simply love the seat and comfort plus at 66 yrs I have no problems lifting the bike off the ground . My blessings to you both and Dusty for your kind patience , Peace ✌
@philipcloutier2553 I do think it would pull a smaller rear sprocket. I do plan on doing a 70mm bore to mine soon.
👍🏼 It's on the list of things to try. I want a 43T rear I think.
What about the cat ?
@@mr.somebody1493 They don't have one in stock form.
Do you check the dipstick while the bike is held level, or while it’s tilted on its side stand?
@0verfiend The manual calls for a level (upright) bike. You just dip it in until the threads stop it (don't screw it in).
I attempted this mod a couple of months ago and I couldn’t get the first three screws out to remove the cap. I tried PB Blaster penetrating oil and still no luck. Any suggestions?
@DanielVidal-sb2yy Keep soaking them every day for about a week. They are probably just rusted together (why I use antisieze on all exhaust related hardware). Acetone and ATF mixed 50/50 is a decent rust penetrator also. Work the Allen wrench back and forth (slightly tightening a bolt/screw can actually help free it up in some cases). Shocking fasteners with a hammer can be very helpful also, but kinda hard to do in this case.
Did you remove the plastic from your bike like I did mine? How about some overall views of your bike the way it looks now?
@joegorman3724 No, it's still the same for now. We have not had time to do any riding lately. This video was shot earlier this year (just now getting around to editing and posting it).
@joegorman3724 Hope you're still doing well and enjoying your XR Joe!
@@MishMashMoto I had a great ride today with friends. Beautiful weather! The bike is so much fun. It fits me well.

@joegorman3724 The bikes are good and waiting on us. We eagerly await our next adventure (whatever and wherever it may be).
Hello sir thank you for all of your videos. I've become somewhat of a mechanic lol. Is it possible to make a 1 minute video on which bolts to remove to take off valve cover. And the retourqe specs. Thanks you!
@dadlills4372 It's the 2 chrome bolts with large washers. I actually do those particular bolts by "hand feel" (so I do not strip them out) as they only go into small aluminum threads. The torque spec on them calls for 7 lbf-ft (if your brave enough to try and torque them). Lots of people have messed those up trying to torque them. The click type TQ wrenches can be very hard to hear/feel at very low TQ settings. Just my 2 cents on the matter.
@@MishMashMoto I got er done. My valves were spot on. Didn't have to adjust. After I put it back togther I had some seepage from the valve cover. So I got the engine hot and tightened slightly again which fixed it up. (My mechanic bud told me to do that) . Easy job. Thanks again. My bike is running mint. I'm running the 35 stock 115 aftermarket jets, snorkel removed and spark arrestor modified. Starts cold no choke and idles like a Honda. FYI I didn't even raise the bike I just rolled it ahead in 2nd I did remove the top cap on the side case to see the marks also just for reassurance.
@dadlills4372 Awesome! Good job Sir! 👏 👍🏼👍🏼
I wonder how it would have come out had you left this piece in its entirety but cut 10-20 gashes across the diameter of the piece ; Starting at the large tube near the exhaust end, going to where the tube is smaller & then making a lot of slices on the top side of the entire length of pipe? It would allow for freer flow of exhaust w/o cutting the piece off & it would make it possible to fix it w/o having to buy a new one? Places like Kalifornia are bad about people messing w/ the "Arrestor" or any of the emissions stuff..... Texas, I've never heard of them caring about it? Was this just to UnCork the exhaust? Anyhoo, gladd to see ya'll back home or taking it easy as kids go back to school. peace
@user-dv7hb2sc9m Holes or relief cuts would work also I think. This was done to uncork the exhaust when we went to the larger carburetors.
Yeak, I do remember you doing several bits about the carbs..... And I only mentioned slices b/c I saw someone do it but I can't remember who or on what bike? But it only makes sense that more air(larger air intake), more fuel as the Carbs did, that you'll need to let out the added combustion by-products...... I think what you've done is especially important on these smaller bikes where a little more will help a lot. Glad ya'll got back, peace
@user-dv7hb2sc9m The match porting helped, but the larger PZ30 carburetor (not really a true 30mm carb.) really helped the engine flow more air in the upper rpm's and while on the highway. You will lose a slight amount of very low RPM throttle response with the larger PZ30 carb. (this is bad for very slow ridding on steep hills). I'm still using the 115 main jet even on the PZ30. Our 2 bikes can now flow the extra air volume that was really needed to match the fuel that the 115 main jet can provide. Especially in the higher RPM range (like on the highway). For best power OUTPUT on the stock carburetor, it really needs more fuel in the midrange (a properly retapered needle would be best to accomplish this). It was also hard to find a washer thin enough (under .015" thick) to shim the needle with. The 115 jet is a decent and simple alternative for use in the lower level elevations. Hope that explanation helps you or someone else who may read it one day.
Yes, and you've shared more 150L info than anyone I've come across which is why I drop your channel to any/all who have questions about this. I've got $2,000 together now, not quite enough but I'm digging. You are the man who's all knowing... lol, I hope by X~Mas I can get something going. Until then, I'll be waiting for your next video. peace & GB
Awesome exhaust mod video!!😎👍
@DustySteel Thanks, it works pretty well on the stock exhaust, IMO.
@@MishMashMoto agreed!
Good work! I had an idea similar to what you did only cut off both ends so that way it would be possible to remove the smaller inner diameter pipe because the tip only seems to be about 20 mm inside diameter. Ended up doing it a little bit differently, but I just had this idea if you cut off both sides of the bolt flange, you might be able to remove the smaller inner pipe and be left with a larger diameter tail pipe or exhaust tip. I haven’t seen anybody do it that way yet but just an idea I had. Keep up the good work. I’m following. 😎👍
@613Builds I think your exhaust idea/plan would work just fine on the stock exhaust also (probably louder). At the moment, the exhaust on our 2 bikes is not a limiting factor after the modification was made (it definitely helped). I think the stock exhaust will become a limiting factor with many more mods (like a big bore kit and/or a better flowing head). Getting air into this engine appears to be the main restriction to making more power with it! Just for reference on the exhaust: a factory DRZ400SM exhaust outlet is only about 14mm (inside diameter).
@@MishMashMoto restrictive yes I agree. I do have the 70 mm 222cc big bore kit installed as well as the 30mm pz30 carb. I think My exhaust tip measured 19mm inside diameter I think it was when I used my caliper. Maybe I didn’t read the caliper properly not sure , mine is a 2024 model.
@@613Builds I found the head to be one of the most restrictive things after installing the 70mm.
@613Builds That 19/20mm measurement sounds correct to me. I was just trying to say that there is a lot more to obtaining a good flowing exhaust than just the outlet diameter. Personally, I didn't observe any difference durimg my testing between the 19/20mm modified outlet to the entire spark arrestor being removed (and that's a big hole). It was, however, much louder (it actually sounds decent, IMO, just not what I personally was going for on our bikes). Give your idea a try and see if you like it (probably sounds better than mine too). I was just going for maximum stealthiness but still being fully functional performance wise.
@613Builds Check out Dusty's page if you're still looking for more power. He's already fought all the battles and won the war. Ride safe.
Just know that if you ride in sensitive areas out west where fires are a significant risk, or anywhere forest/park rangers may check such things, you have now eliminated the spark arrestor.
@michaelc3416 That is correct! It would either need to be replaced or welded back on before such a trip. An aftermarket exhaust that is "spark arrestor compliant" is in my future build plans also.
🙋♂️
Did you do this without an air box/ exhaust mod?
@Christ_iswithus Yes, we rode them with stock exhaust and stock airbox with the 115 main jet until about 8,000 miles. With the stock carb. The bike really needs more fuel in the low-midrange area and more air up top (wide open throttle).
@@MishMashMoto thanks
Hey man I just wanted to give you a shout out all of your content was really helpful to me when the XR first came out last year and I was doing my own maintenance on mine. I have enjoyed every bit of the 3000 me I have put on mine, with zero issues. I really like being able to put the motor on TDC with that little wheel trick you did.
@TheMotorcycleMessenger Thanks for the kind comments. We love our little XR150L'S and plan to keep them until we can't ride anymore.
Just found your videos. I was researching this bike before deciding perhaps purchasing. Im looking in the used market for it and figuring how to notice signs for neglect or abuse. Now i see what to listen and pay attention to.
@timothymidkiff2894 Really dirty air filters, dark or smelly oil, how the clutch feels and is adjusted, rusty chains, worn sprockets, broken/bent spokes/rims, bald rear tires (slick like a drag strip burnout tire in the middle), bent frame, missing parts. It's normal for some wear and tear on a bike like this, but those are just some items I look at when buying a used bike. Don't worry to much about if the bike is shiny and clean or not (as long as it's clean enough to inspect everything). Happy hunting, and don't be afraid to walk away or offer less if it needs some repairs. Most people will negotiate fairly.
I will be offering my kit up for sale soon. If you want it then let me know. Just got the 78mm kit and I think I’m going to make it work. I’ll be making a video here soon with the unboxing.
@DustySteel I will take it. That 70mm bore cylinder and BRT piston is what I want for my personal bike. Just let me know what I owe you for everything.
You have my number. RUclips won’t let me talk about it.
@@DustySteel Call you tomorrow
@@MishMashMoto Okay; sounds good. No rush though!
@@MishMashMoto I don’t answer numbers I don’t recognize so let me know it’s you and I’ll get back with you.
Changing sprocket gearing would produce better power results especially for torque at different speeds and you could leave the moter stock and safe until it needs rebuilt then go all out with go fast parts and port job along with big valves and big bore kit along with a tad bigger carb
@adamloveshondas3122 Gear changes can definitely help. We have tested gearing changes on our front sprockets already. I'm still looking for a good quality steel rear sprocket in the 40-45 tooth range. I'm not in a big hurry to do all of the mods I would like to do. Things happen when they happen.
Hey I noticed on your 3200 mile trip there no tags on your bikes, don't they require it were you live? Great content, got me an xr150l, wanted to take it from Virginia to Florida o. 2 lame roads, but little scared the bike won't handle trip
@douglasworkman2788 We had all of our papers and such (but no plates) at the time we needed to leave, so we went. We got pulled over once, but it wasn't a problem. Only you can decide if you want to take your 150 on a trip like that. Most people probably would not.
Can anyone recommend an affordable super moto front tire. One as wide as will fit. Totally stock rims
@peterhoward492 I have seen some good tire info overseas but don't remember what the maximum sizes were. Hopefully, someone will see this that has the answer.
@@MishMashMoto Thanks!
