I just found out yesterday that I have matching dna 🧬 results as indigenous Maya I’m so proud. As a child I studied about the culture. I’m so very proud.
I’m Mexican American and I want to learn Nahuatl and Mayan language because I believe in my true roots of my ancestors. I really wish many Mexican would learn this language, many are being tough by a colonial language of Spanish. That is slowly destroying the language of Mayan and Nahuatl. Let us never forget who we are and where we came from.
@@KuramiRocket hello there and it nice to met someone who is Zapotec. And yea it always important to ask a parent or any relatives who know your language and culture to keep it alive and pass it Down to new generation. Treasuring a heritage are more valuable than gold.
Disagree.. do some research and you will find the Spanish Crown didn't force Spanish at the expense of native languages. Revolutionary governments did. Spanish during the colonial period was a lingua franca. Just like at the Philippines. It was under 300 yrs of Spanish rule. It never lost it's native tongues. English is now becoming the preferred language by many of is citizens thanks to assimilation policies of the US government during it's colonial period. Many Mexicans now are accepting American customs and languages thanks to migration , repatriation and a desire for American greenbacks. Most people assume that the genocide and marginalization of our northern brothers in the US was universal, but that is nothing close to the truth. Mexico today is an INDIGENOUS nation of over 100 million. The overthrow of the Mexica Aztec empire was an INDIGENOUS rebellion by other tribes who tired of their antics. The evidence of where genocide truly occured is by current population. As I stated previously Mexico is over 100 million strong. There is an estimated 100 thousand US American Indians left...
You do know that the Natives conquered other Native lands and did human sacrifices long before the Spanish arrived but who cares? Because the White man's evils are the only important thing to know and not the Native brutalites because they're Brown.

In English you should say Maya, as for maya culture, maya people, maya nations, maya art, etc. Mayan is reserved to talk about the language and other linguistic phenomena so you should say mayan language and languages, mayan speach, mayan literature, mayan writing, etc. In English is considered improper to use mayan to refer to the people. The term maya world was created to promote tourism in the region, the term maya area is used in academic settings, but we call our land Maaya' or Mayab, the last one been more use as to avoid confusion with the language and people. Mayab was originally used only for the Yucatán Peninsula down to the Petén-Itzá area in modern Guatemala. But now a days is beginning to be used more and more as to refer to the entire maya area.

Yeah but nobody speaks these languages anymore so you can never find anyone speaking that language unless you're an archeologist and go to these remote areas.
