As well as being a fellow modeller of far less skill, I have the pleasure of meeting up with this gentleman on an almost weekly basis in persuance of our other shared interest. He is very modest, and will give an honest opinion about the models he is making, as anybody who has read his articles in the [redacted] magazine will vouch for. Nice one, Peter!
Hi There Thanks for the message. Apologies for the delayed response, I've just got back from a spell in Indonesia. Glad you liked the model. It was the most enjoyable build I've done for a while. Best regards Peter F
I found out the nickname for this particular plane was called the Torpecker.!, enough said . The torpedoes weight was nearly as much as the plane itself. Without it, it's speed was greater than 170 mph., maybe nearly 200. Mph , with it only 60 mph . To force people to fly it was nothing short murder., but since they made an Oath. We'll go figure!. The TBF and M Avengers were said to Handled like a truck and was called Unlovely . SO , It got the nickname the Turkey. Imagine that! I wonder what other planes got in interesting names . The Helldiver was called by two names . One was the big tailed beast ,the Sb2c meaning was son of a witch 2nd. class . Vman enough said.
Thanks for this. Interesting to note that the loss rate amongst torpedo bombers from all sides was very high when faced with any sort of fighter opposition.
Really nice. Your stuff deserves a lot more views.
