    I love the art graf! It’s one of those supplies that I forget that I have but every time I use it I just fall in love again. I have to ride a bus out to work one day a week out into the desert. It’s a long drive I started taking just a water brush and a small sketchbook and artgraf to do quick sketches while I’m riding the bus. It is winter here, perfect for practicing tonal sketching

    Hi Katie! I have one tin since ages but I don't use it often. My goal in 2025 is to take the less used supplies off the drawers. I love you tonal study, very inspiring!

    Thanks for this! Beautiful work. I have a “Global Art Materials” carbon block which I’ve been using in this same way, but I’ve been interested in getting the ArtGraf graphite block, so I really appreciated the walk-through! (And love the artwork you made with it)

    Hi Katie, I love artgraf and Derwent too! Artgraf also do a black one which is a really lush deep black.
    I love both. At the start artgraf was very weird to use and I wasn’t sure about it and now I learnt to use it, I’m literally drawing my whole graphic novel using it (and I started it using Derwent inktense block but changed to use artgraf in the end).

    Yr awesome brush (type?)/skill added to value shifts, & how you consistently demo layering w/multiple tools truly advances my learning experiences. .. my pieces take off on their own no matter how similarly ii begin... zentangle art is a takeoff from traditional pen & ink on small paper tiles... it took awhile to realize that's my first love & everything adds to it, expanding interests, size of works & discovering new loves... a #1 zentangle principle is 'no mistakes', wherein a change (error) points to a new opportunity rather than the (usual) negative reaction... how your experiments 'prove' a new direction vs a fail, is what (ii believe) sets you apart from a sea of wannabes, and... has made newer artist's offerings richer for your direction... ty.

      Oh thank you so very much Judy, I really appreciate your kind words! I've seen zentangle art before but didn't realise it had a name, it is so mesmerising! Totally agree with the principle of no mistakes too, much better to go with it and learn rather than to just give up 😄

    I’m curious about something. When combining with gouache, you suggested putting down the gouache first then put the graphite overtop. Why would an artist want/choose to do that when they already have their gouache out? Wouldn’t it be easier to just use black gouache? What benefits would come with using paintable graphite instead?

    • @TheSmallArtSociety
      @TheSmallArtSociety 8 дней назад

      I wonder if it’s because of the effect of the graphite? I think we can see a bit of that effect around 9:50, when the graphite goes over the yellow watercolour, it definitely looks gritty and black gouache probably wouldn’t give that effect 😊

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  7 дней назад

      Good question 🤗 It's mostly to play with different textures! It looks quite different when dried to gouache and I love experimenting with different mediums just because I enjoy the play! It's also smudgeable and 'shinier' than gouache is once dry so a very different effect!
