I really appreciate you showing the reference side by side. Being able to see what parts you stylized or changed compared to the original photo is pretty informative.
Thanks for the video Emily! Keen to get into painting portraits with gouache at some point and i really love watching you block in the colours, i think its really valuable, and i will no doubt take lessons from watching into my own art practice.
Absolutely love your videos and your art in general ❤! You are so good at explaining your process, thank you for sharing your knowledge, that´s really precious!
Absolutely love your style and how the portraits turned out! Joaquín Sorolla is one of my fav artists, he and Alphonse Mucha were one of the reasons I became interested in art 1 year ago and I feel like when I look at your art it is definitely reminiscent of the colors Sorolla used to capture light. I wish you the best on finishing this challenge! It’s my favorite series of your channel.
Hello Emily!!! Happy new year!!! I really love your process in this challenge, it's amazing how you build up the layers and paint in your own style!! Lovely to see you and your videos again!! God bless you :))))))
Seeing all these portraits together in your sketchbook really is amazing - there's so much variety, but your ("blocky" as you call it) art style unifies them beautifully. You're so good at capturing the planes of the face! ^^ Also loved the Nosferatu mention in the subtitles haha
It was so soothing and nice to watch painting process and especially your videos are just gem.. woah.. I must say it's very inspiring. ❤ Good luck with the new pallate experiment you're doing ✨☺️
Omg was it ever a heavy start this year. Glad everyone is starting to find their flow again. Love how glowy your fighter turned out! And yes, watercolour pencils are one of those things at the back of the drawer 😂 Good tip to use them with the portraits. Lovely video, can't wait to see the rest of the heads. 😉🙌
hi emily!✴It's so nice to have you back. This year i was meant to continue my studies in art after finishing highschool, but i feel i've been too disconnected from it to take it seriously. So i'm taking this gap year to find my passion again and im doing so through your videos!
OMG I also have the 100 heads haunting me since late 2022 but mine are not even painted! I wanted to practice and try different mediums so I started with just pencil, I've done up until the 70 with different dry media but wanted to do the rest with watercolor and gouache, the sketches are mostly done but haven't started painting yet so let's see how that goes. I have 0 experience with gouache portraits so your videos will definitely be really really useful and a huge inspiration, thank you!!!
We're in a similar boat!! 70 is no easy feat, way to go! 😊 Good luck with the painted heads! Try not to get discouraged, if they don't turn out at first. I reallllyyy struggled with gouache at first. It just takes some time to get to know the medium! I hope my videos are helpful 💕
Great start in 2025 - I feel the same, you mentioned early in the video about something is moving again… best of joy and thanks for sharing 🙏🏾 much love Thi
Hi Emily 👋 Happy New Year 🎉 ✨️ I like your drawings a lot. You're a good artist. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful talent. I'm looking forward to seeing you to reach 100+. May I ask, what kind of sketchbook do you use? For the brushes, you only use flat and round brushes, right? And what paint brand do you use? Thank you so much!
Emily!!!!! I was waiting for your video so much and when I get notification I thought let it be Emily and yes IT WAS YOUR VIDEO AAAA your art is that amazing I think I wanna eat it 😂
To be honest, I had no idea who he was! I don't agree with his politics 😅 but it seems like he's a very accomplished athlete. It's a great reference photo!
I really appreciate you showing the reference side by side. Being able to see what parts you stylized or changed compared to the original photo is pretty informative.
I'm so glad you found that helpful! 😊
Just wondering how long it takes for you to do a portrait!! Love your art style!!! It inspires me to paint like you! ❤❤
it might take atleast less than 2-4 hours per one they look amazing.
Thank you! It really depends on the complexity of the portrait, but on average it's 45 minutes per portrait ❤️
i love hearing about your process and how you mix your colors, and as always you turn out great paintings!
I’d love a video where you show us your paint tray/palette and how you made it/what paints you use in it & show us how we can make our own! :🥰💖
That's a great idea! I’ll add it to my list of future video ideas! 💕
Yayyy I’m so excited!! I remember watching you when you first started this challenge 🥹 GREAT JOB EMILY!!! 💜✨🦇

Absolutely stunning work 😍🔥
Thank you so much! 💖
The strong proportions really stood out on the flick through 😮
Ah thank you! Excited to share the full tour!

Outstanding, you are the reason i bought my first gouache!! Putting aside my oil paints for now
Aw wonderful! Thank you so much
Really want to see your process of mixing colors on your palette😍😍That would definitely help me learn a lot
I'd love to have another camera set up on my palette! Maybe I can make that happen this year 🤞

They are so beautiful 😻 . The shinhan gouache is my favorite brand. I hope you will have fun with them 😁 .
Thanks so much! I'm really enjoying the Shinhan gouache so far! 🥰

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad I'm not alone 🫶 I'm excited to see where things are going too! 😊
Watching you paint has totally inspired me to dig out my paints in storage. Sometimes you need that push! Do you prime your sketchbook before paint?
That's so awesome to hear! I don't prime my pages for gouache, but I do with oils
😊
Thanks so much 😊
Hi Emily 👋
Happy New Year 🎉 ✨️

Aw no way!! Thank you so much!! ❤️🥹
My big plan for this year is to do larger paintings. I'm about half way finished with the first one.
That's amazing! It's so satisfying to see those bigger paintings come together 😊
Found u through instagram other artist are sharing ur work❤❤❤❤
Aw that’s so wonderful to hear! 😊❤️ I wonder who it was 👀
I paint the same reference as you weeks ago (that was an orange circle btw)
It's a great reference!
The last portrait is Fedor Emelianenko. Russian athlete, MMA fighter, four-time world champion in mixed martial arts and many more titles
THE EMPERORRRRRRRRRR…….. FEDORRRRRR………. EMELIANENKOOOOOOOOOOO
Came here to say this. Great subject choice
I can always count on you guys! Thanks for letting me know 😊
this sketchbook of yours. Which one is this?
It's a Moleskine art sketchbook :)
😳😳😳😳😳❤❤❤❤❤❤
The best portrait I have ever done so far is a propaganda poster I made in JS paint.
fun as always, to watch as you do these, and your thoughts .. Norakag
Thank you, Norakag! 😊
Feodor Emelianenko!? That's not a portrait I expected you to paint.
To be honest, I had no idea who he was! I don't agree with his politics 😅 but it seems like he's a very accomplished athlete. It's a great reference photo!
Paint more female heads please
Ooh I didn't realize I painted mostly men in this one! I usually paint more female heads 😅
Is this water, acrzlic or oil color dear ?
It's gouache 😊
@emhuesart ahh water color .
I think you can say that simply 😉
