Can I Paint Faster? | 100 heads challenge | Gouache Portrait Painting
Your videos inspire me to paint with gouache! Thank very much ❤❤❤
Ah that's wonderful to hear! ❤️❤️
the yellow is such a unique colour palette and I love it!! 🥰
It's such a fun palette to paint with! Thank you!! 😊💛
You are already producing extremely pleasing and well rendered art at a fast pace! Painting in itself will always be inherently “slow”. So take comfort in the fact that It’s less about what we can achieve in a set time, and more that we set time aside to enjoy it. As far as playful experimentation goes, perhaps treating timed paintings as gesture drawings will help with the speed aspect? Reducing what is required to deliver the most captivating elements will show you what you truly find important to convey. A “What would I grab in a fire?” approach. If you focus on the most vital information to make it read clearly, you’ll find just how much you can actually get away with. It’s very relaxing and liberating! So have fun and keep playing! You’re an inspiration to many and we are all thankful you share your skill with the world!
Thank you so much for this lovely comment! I was indeed aiming for a "what would I grab in a fire" approach. You've explained it fantastically! I appreciate how painting encourages us to slow down. However, attempting to speed things up and only capture what's vital can be a fun and beneficial painting exercise, similar to gesture drawing 😄 Thank you again for your kind words! I love the pup in your profile picture!
I wish I had even a small percentage of the skill you do. Your art is wonderful.
Oh wow, thank you so so much! 💛
I’d love for you to explain more about your color mixing and vale shifts . It seems on video that your colors are random and I’m sure they are not because the finished pice always comes together.
Thanks for marking videos and sharing your art with us 💕🖼️
Noted! I will try to include this in a future video 😊 Thank you so much for watching! 💖
love love love the second one
Thank you! ❤️
Hi Emily!! I love your art style soo much, and honestly your work has motivated to try out portraits, finally! But everytime I try it, it's either too dull or isn't like the human skin colour at all!
So, I was wondering if you could make a video on your colour mixing process and how you manage to create such a smooth blend between values.....it would be very helpful indeed! Love you, I hope you do very well in your artistic journey!
These are so amazing, and making me very intrigued about gouache!
Hi Emily!!!! I really like your videos, thank you for your effort on making them!!!! God bless you!!!! 💖💖💖✨✨✨💕💕💕💕
Thank you so much!! I recognize you from your other comments ☺️ Thank you for all of your support and kindness 💖💖
You are my fav. Thanks for your work of love to post these videos! God bless you!

Great vidéo Em!
You got me with "challengeception" 😅😂😂😂😂❤
Thank you Khasis! 🫶☺️
i love your art so much, always waiting and always supporting 😍
Thank you so much for your support! I recognize you 🩷☺️
@@emhuesart aaaaaa thank you 🤩 I really appreciate it ❤️☺️
I love your videos. I was wondering is you can find a way to show your reference photo as you paint. If not, can you show it before you start, so I can take a screen shot to refer to as you paint. It will be really helpful. Thanks for listening.
Hope you don't mind a question! I normally paint with oil, so when I paint in a sketchbook (such as a moleskin) I gesso the pages. I'm interested in trying gouache. Do you gesso pages for gouache in a sketchbook?
not OP but thought i'd chip in anyways! i don't use moleskine but i find that if i don't use gesso the paint isn't so vibrant but instead "gets sucked" into the page, plus gesso makes it harder for the paint to go through the page. so personally i'd say gesso is very usefull (though i can imagine in sketchbooks that have better quality it might not make such a huge difference) :)
What size is your sketchbook?
, love your videos 😍you really helped me get a better approach to gauche paintings
I wish I could sent you a picture of the painting I made today using one of your references ✌️
Hey ! 😊
I really love your art and I get inspiration from 😊... I want to know that which color pencils do you use for sketches?
And also which sketchbook you use?
I will surely try to recreate some of your work ❤
You could do commissions.. ur too good at portrait ❤
Thank you so much! I'd love to one day! 🩷
I like your art style🔥. When do your brushes launch?
Thank you so much! 💗 It's looking like the brushes will be launching in July! You can sign up to notified when they launch via email, using the second link in the description 😄
@@emhuesart no problem, I already signed up like a month ago. Can’t wait👌🏽.
Does it matter if I have super cheap gouache? Is it worth still giving it a go? I'm used to acrylics and (currently) suck at watercolour so I feel like it's a happy medium for what I want to achieve with a certain project but don't have much money lol
I used to paint with school gouache. Those kids usually have lol I enjoyed the results and after a while I bought better gouache. It sure is different, but the most important thing is to begin. Give it a try! 🫶🏻
@@biancalacerdamuller Thank you :)
How do you keep your gouache in this palette and prevent it from drying out while not molding? Also, do you use a medium with your gouache?
I haven't had any issues with molding, but this may be because I live in a very dry climate. I avoid gouache with honey as an ingredient (such as m. graham) as they are VERY prone to molding. It is recommended to only use distilled water to spray/ reactivate gouache in these palettes (I have not been very good at doing this 😅). I've also heard of artists adding a bit of alcohol to the gouache to prevent mold. I use my gouache very frequently, so they don't dry out on me. I add a few drops of Winsor & Newton watercolor blending medium to each well. I also stir each color every time I sit down to paint, often adding a bit of water to get them to the consistency I like. I hope this helps!
Hello! Could you show what equipment you use to record? Lighting, tripod, camera etc, I really wanted to create a RUclips channel but I don't know where to start
There's a link in the description to an Amazon list of everything I use to make my videos 😊💛
Hi Emily
Hello! 👋 😊
Truly astounding and quite captivating ❤
You’re such an inspiration!! These are so beautiful, and watching your process is so satisfying. 🖤 I’m in awe!
Thank you so much! 🥹💗
Fantastic work. Thank you for inspiring me 👏
Thank you so much Lilly 😊❤️
This videos are my favorite! ❤❤❤amazing as always!
Any time you post a new video, I'm all over it! Love your videos 💙
Hi! I really love your painting style. Do you have a lesson somewhere going through how you select colors, values, and brush strokes? This could be a really terrific (paid!) class!
Hi there! Thank you so much! I have a video on my channel that goes over these things, it's called "How to Paint a Portrait in Gouache | Step by Step!" I also have a class with Etchr Studio called "Foundations of Portrait in Gouache" (I just added a link to it in the description box) 😊 I am hoping to offer more classes in the future! ❤️
Great work! I’m considering timing some of my portrait sessions too because I paint really SLOW!
I think it’s because painting is out of my comfort zone. I enjoyed the video…thank you for sharing! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! There's absolutely nothing wrong with painting slowly, but timing some of our portrait sessions can help us identify which parts are crucial to paint and which parts might be "unnecessary". It's definitely an interesting exercise to try! Happy painting! ❤️
*Please do a sketchbook animal spread!*
i have felt , for quite awhile , that faces were my weakest area in painting.. your videos are inspiring me to try the 100 face challenge . love watching you work !! thx for sharing with us.. Nora Kag 👍👍
Thank you so much Nora! I hope you enjoy the learning process. The 100 heads challenge is such a great way to practice! 😄
What have you used to make a sketch of this heads? I like your art very much 😊
Thank you so much! 🩷 I used watercolor colored pencils for the initial sketch, I believe they're old Winsor and Newton pencils 😊
was this done with normal gouache or acrylic gouache?
It's normal designer gouache 😊
@@emhuesart thank you:) great paintings
