yt recommended me a new project for mounting stuff under your desk. Underware from handsonkatie is free and open source. it uses a grid pattern, multiboard, as a base. seems like a nice idea. and i am so lazy that i use just a tiny towel rolled up as my wrist support for my mouse. but your idea is nice and i have fabric that i could use for making a sleeve. maybe i can convince myself and make something
I remember my friend had a chair with wheels similar to those you showed in the beginning. When i first saw them i thought his dad put some inline skates wheels on it, i believe they had some legit bearings. i was shocked how smooth it rides, especially on a wooden floor he had. you absolutely should try them if you can. those can become the only wheels you'll ever use
The cover for your standing mat turned out great! You could also put one of those anti slip rug pads underneath to add some friction. These all turned out so great and I feel inspired!
Hey! I have a (maybe) great tip! The foot massagers could be a full cylinder so that you can roll them on your whole foot arch. Maybe you could also do two different shapes for each half of the cylinder and choose how aggressive you want your massage. Try it!
Well done. Some other food for thought could be. 1. My subwoofer is mounted and acoustically decoupled under my desk, all 3D printed parts. 2. I added a cheap IKEA shelf ( the cardboard hollow floating one, LACK I think) and under the shelf I have created mounts for my small speakers. In the middle is my headphone mount and on top is my Laptop docking station, wiring goes directly thorough the shelf, it was easy to make the cut outs inside with basic hand tools. 3. I have created overprinted (like overmolded) mgnt USB cable clips, so I can manage sime loose wires like USB-C charging wires by routing and attaching them directly to the side panel of my PC housing. 4. Mount for behind the monitor bracket is helping me with wiring and I have attachd an other docking station there which I need for work. 5. My main power strik is also mounted under the table with brackets and I have added cable holders and holders for charging bricks and alike which are also all under the table. All in all I use one Laptop and one PC with 2 monitor, 2 speakers with a subwoofer and 2 docking stations but you don´t see any cables and nothing gets in the way or gets dirty, I can simply wipe off the whole desk area without anything getting in the way.
Hey it might be worth checking out some ergonomic guides for standing and sitting at your desk to make sure things are the right height. I've heard that planting on a wrist rest while typing is generally bad and can increase risk of injury
I have mounted my computer under my desk using a metal sheet with cut in it to add straps then slid the metal plate between the flexispot frame and desktop and simply strapping the computer case to the desk. Looks very clean and no more cables to manage for standing desk
You're definitely not the only one who figured out the under-desk solutions! I also have a headphone hook, but I also have an open-side tray that I can easily reach for storing my tablet and e-reader, a backmount for strapping a powerbar to have the cables off the floor and alleviate the cable spaghetti and I have a USB hub command-stripped to the underside for the numerous devices that need to be plugged in but don't need to be easy to reach. I also have a USB power hub behind my monitor for charging devices and 2 different charging cables for those devices I use daily that are mounted to the underside of my monitor with those rubber cable management thingies so they stay off the surface of my desk.
Office chairs DO have tyres. All the chair manufacturers generally offer rubberised rollers for hard floors. That the chairs come with "carpet rollers" is a trick to make you spend money on rollers twice. Back in the day maybe 20 years ago IKEA i think used to package chairs without rollers; then alongside with them you needed to grab either hardwood rollers or carpet rollers as you wish. I suspect a lot of people were confused and complained then that their chairs were incomplete. Oh and welcome to Europe, it's nice here, we like it.
For an interesting under-desk 3D printed management system, check out the RUclips video titled "Underware: The Ultimate Cable Management System | Full Guide" from "Hands on Katie". Her video is full of cheeky comments but it also full of really practical solutions. I'm planning on trying a few of her models/ideas. By the way love your stuff. You had me at 3D printed hangers a while ago, and you continue to impress the heck out of me. As the kids say "no cap". 🙂
For all your cardboard boxes and packing foam, I would reach out to your local game store/dnd meet up group, model builders are always on the look out for leftover foam and cardboard!
Hey, welcome to Sweden! I recently added a walking treadmill under my standing desk and it's been fantastic, a game changer for well-being and focus. If you're around Stockholm you're welcome to come over give it a try 😃 I also made feet risers for a small & affordable standing desk, to gain sufficient room for the treadmill and it worked out really well. The balance platforms you've shown look awesome.
I personally have a bar light that has a magnet on it so I can use it as a fill light but its mounted there so I can work on things with light in my lap
Interestingly enough IKEA once made chair wheels in two styles, carpet and hardfloor. Seems like they don't do that anymore and use hardfloor wheels as default and don't offer them separately.
Surprised there wasn't some use of LTT's magnetic fixtures; you can literally just stick things to the bottom of the desk using removable mounts which fit into the keyholes of various things and remove them at-will for use elsewhere as-needed.
If you mount a router or an access point on the bottom of your desk.... would a docking station not work better where you can directly connect your ethernet cable? or... just plug in an ethernet cable to your pc... since it's already coming to your desk... this also much faster then wifi.
At first I thought you said you were always looking for ways to reduce your *waist* and was confused, given how lean you are. Was starting to worry there!
I meannnn... Big job but 3d printing an entirely flat PC case that uses a riser cable for the graphics card. Will need a fair few fans just to make sure temps don't get too high
Flexibility is how you avoid injury, not strength. Just work on ankle flexibility (the “stay flex” dude has some good exercises.) and when you twist your ankle again, it will just flex instead of tearing or overstretching something. Strengthening is fine too, so long as you maintain flexibility but strength training often causes less flexibility because muscles tend to tighten up as you work them out. I’d recommend flexibility training first, and then some strengthening with flexibility maintenance throughout. Good luck and I hope you keep running and jumping off rocks for many years to come!
Also! “Soft good anxiety” felt like a specific concept or phrase, I had to google it. Turns out, no one in the history of the internet has ever strung those three words together (nor “good soft anxiety”)! I kind of want you to talk about the concept since you seem to be its inventor :)
Oooh did I coin a phrase? nice! :P It's pretty much what I described earlier in the video.. the anxiety associated with making soft goods, which tend to require a lot of planning and precision, non-intuitive assembly, and shifting/flexible materials. You might end up doing a bunch of sewing before realizing you did one step out of order, and then you're spending hours ripping out seams. Even when I'm doing it right, I feel unsure >.< ... and yet, the end result is really satisfying so I hope I can hone the skill and confidence!
You could also read up about barefoot shoes. With these shoes the ankle spraining thing should belong to the past I read. But read it up first before buying something ^^ Me personally I wear them for about 6 years now and like them really much. But I also never had ankle spraining before so you'll have to judge for yourself :)
How are you doing with your transition to Sweden? Almost 9 years ago I moved to Germany, and 5 years later I moved to Switzerland. I've recently returned to America. How are you doing with the language? English was somewhat hard to come by because I lived in parts of those countries where it wasn't commonly spoken. I did learn some German, but Swiss-German was too much of a hurdle for me. ----- Just a quick comment on one thing I saw in your video... While I was in Germany I found a long walk I liked to go on through the farm land and surrounding grass fields, and unfortunately I did contract Lyme disease. It's a simple antibiotic treatment if you catch it early, but if you don't notice the tick bite, or the pattern it causes on your skin, it can become more serious. Anyway, just be careful to check your skin when walking or running through tall grass!
I'm picking up Swedish little by little, but Swedes are also impressively proficient in English overall. Regarding ticks... yea, I've already been bit twice so I'm trying to stay super observant.
@@make.anything Yes, many Europeans, especially younger ones can speak pretty good English. Unfortunately, they're usually in bigger cities in Switzerland, and since I was living in the old East Germany, there is still some resistance there to Western influences. Regarding Lyme, at least you have the anti-bodies now, so you should be safe, though it's still wise to inspect your limbs after a walk through the grass. Also, if you have pets, dogs at least (don't know about cats) can contract Lyme as well. Good luck and enjoy Sweden.
@@tomemanc We have Lyme disease too, called "Borrelia" in Sweden. TBE is much more dangerous and it's spreading. It's mostly along the coastlines though, and especially in the Stockholm area. Devin should be very careful since he lives close to the sea.
one ergonomic recommendation, get a good mechanical keyboard. After i bought a proper mechanical keyboard where i chose everything from the caps to the switches, i do not get tired in my fingers as fast as i did with my old membrane keyboard. Also i really love the feel of the keys.
To protect the hardwood floors in my room I use offcut pieces of vinyl flooring planks (that come with thin padding already on the back). You still get the hardwood floor look, you can customize the shape to fit around your desk if you don't want to tear everything apart to put it underneath, and the chair rolls freely without damaging anything. It's probably a little more expensive than those plastic mats, but it looks way better.
@@SianaGearz True, they can slide around a little, but it depends on how smooth and glossy the finish on your floor is, and the type of padding on the back. They might not slide around as much, say, on an older floor vs a newer one that's not so worn. Once you are sitting on them in a roller chair they really don't go anywhere though. And if they're up against your desk or a wall, that also helps keep them in place.
Hey so for no particular reason and totally asking for a friend ... can those foot massagers be narrower and longer and a full 360 instead of only 180? ... I'm kidding ... 3D printed plastic is unsafe for that.
You could just cover the plastic with a very thin body-safe stretchy piece of rubber of some persuasion. With the advantage that you can dispose of that and don't have to spend time washing your plastic.
Please at the 115mW burst peak that they're rated for, there really isn't a hazard. Your phone on the other hand chirps at like 1-2W to the mobile network.

Keep an eye on the router's temperature. Mounted upside down against a large flat surface may affect its airflow and cooling.
Eh not so much. Though the signal is really going to take a hit, bouncing around under the desk
