“Do you want to improve the world? I don’t think it can be done. / The world is sacred. It can’t be improved. If you tamper with it, you’ll ruin it. If you treat it like an object, you’ll lose it. / There is a time for being ahead, a time for being behind; a time for being in motion, a time for being at rest; a time for being vigorous, a time for being exhausted; a time for being safe, a time for being in danger. / The Master sees things as they are, without trying to control them. She lets them go their own way, and resides at the center of the circle.”

One explanation for why our dog barks whenever he sees the mailman is that our faithful friend is convinced that he pushes away this intruder every day. His certainty is reinforced by the fact that the postman will probably never dare knock on the door.
Dogs are such good friends to us.

A challenge about this is all the unnecessary suffering that would result from us "giving over" all control to the powers--which today is the corporate state. The only reason we have clean water, paint without led in it, safe food, even a "work week" that allows for evenings and weekends off, is because people who valued life fought for policies that made these things possible. If everyone "just lived," the outcome would be tragic. We're no longer in a time when a king is obligated to serve/care for his people--we're living in a time ruled by multi-national profit-seeking actors, which govts are attempting to rein in in some ways. We have to have forces of good in the world, doing more than attending to their own lives.

My studies brought me to the conclusion that yes there are "plausible" political solutions but there is no solution to deception, which is behind another wall of pride. I can't even change my own behaviors to become a saint no matter how much I "understand." That being said, I don't know the best way to evangelize, and conflict is inevitable. I'm trying to understand what conflict really is, and what it means to do battle. Am I a warrior or am I just dividing, or am I merciful or just a coward?
Also, there's nothing wrong with self defense. I'm not just going to let someone kill my lived ones. If they die in the process of me defending, them it's a tragedy.

My understand is that Jesus "amplified" the commandments by removing the focus on external actions and emphasizing the root of our disobedience in our hearts. This, to me, is what makes the idea of not killing almost unavoidable. In other words, I can try to refrain from physically killing someone with a knife, a weapon, a chair, or my own hands, but I still engage in various other forms of killing in my heart.
And perhaps even indirectly, my mere existence "kills" the world and the people I love or try to love, slowly but surely. After all, maybe my existence, even when I don't intend it, produces destructive side effects that are beyond my control... So, yes, the least I can do is promise not to slaughter my neighbor with my own hands.

The curious thing is that the nature of the earth has no concept of mercy, and yet, God wants to bring us mercy and forgiveness without our having earned it. No one talks about letting things be according to their nature because it is so jarring for people who want to include every little morsel into their tent that they don’t realize how much the tent can’t really cover without rupturing the fabric. The story of Ruth illustrates why we shouldn’t harvest things to the dregs for ourselves and leave some for the poor, the wandering to gather for their bread.

I'm very late, but I really want to know a solution to modernity in the sense that materialism can be criticised for always having a secret and selfish agenda, I would want to know how to show people that a purely "natural" approach leads to selfishness and arrogance. And most people today are perfectly OK with their own arrogance. They think that if they ruled the world everything would be better, and think they can define "love your neighbour" better than Christ.

    • @m105chelle
      @m105chelle 3 года назад

I think you're lacking some arguments there 🤔
I am not sure, if you want to defent capitalism and materialism or if you just want to bash on people that try a different approach, your point does not really come through here 🤔
And then the last thing with arrogance... there is so much topic in this comment, it's hard to answer actually so maybe explain yourself again and try to ellaborate your points?

@@m105chelle I was speaking about Christianity and modernity... I'm not a materialist and I am not a capitalist either... I'm a Christian. What I was asking is how to show a modern man, a materialist, how their ideology is always hiding a secret agenda that is not rational but rather emotional... I've already figured it out tho.

I have a question... how do you live in a society and do your part without agreeing to their laws at least in such a manner that they aren't coherent with Christian moral guides and laws and the overall believe? I mean... you need society, don't you? But society is turning out to be less and less Christian in its beliefs

      Welcome in the end times!!!
Not cinical meant, look at israel ( the bible is written about isreal and its people) we enter now Ezechiel charter 38 39 gog and magog war,
Afther this the new world order will take over, but be of good faith messiah will come to rake His people before the great oppression, israel will be misslead for 3,5 years and than again will be pursecuted again for another 3,5 years by the anti crist, then messiah will come tu judge the nations for what they have done to His people ( psalm 149) and climate ? When He put His foot om mount of olives in israel yerusalem, there will be a spring of healing water en renew the seas and fish etc....
Nobody said that it would become easy to become a believer in Yeshua ( jezus).

If you don’t like modernity, then deactivate all you social networking accounts. In fact, disconnect your internet. And disconnect your electricity and running water. All of which are owing to modernity.

By modernity, Freeman doesn't mean technology or chronology. He uses the term to refer to a worldview or mindset that posits a God who is distant or indifferent, or even nonexistent. The burden is on man and his will to power to fix, control, and perfect the world. God lives upstairs, we live on the first floor, and there's no stairs or elevator. Contrast with Orthodox world where God is "everywhere present and filling all things" and "has revealed himself to us."
