For more years than I can count this has been happening to me. Whenever we travel I have to take extra tops. I’m over being embarrassed about it. My friends even bet on how long it will take!😝
Hi Kate! Thank you for watching and commenting. I feel your pain about having to take extra tops when you travel. Now I just pack scarves to match my shirts and when I'm not eating I just keep the scarf open. I even have one in my car for the times I have to eat on the go. I am experimenting with different closures including magnetic brooches.
Thank you Naomi. My 58 year old sister is blind and inevitably messes a lot when she eats. I can see and can't always prevent ending up with an oily mark on my clothes! tI have been wanting to make her bibs for a long time. This is a lovely dignified way of resolving the issue without embarrassing her. She is going to love it. Simple but smart. Thank you
Thank you for watching and commenting. I’m touched by your story. I love this project because it is beginner friendly and does not take a great deal of fabric and as eloquently put is a more dignified way of solving a problem. I did a Live (Holiday Gifts: Come Work with Me) making this scarf out of 100% brushed cotton which is warmer fabric for the winter.
Thank you for watching and commenting. They are so much more dignified than a bib. Also, you can make them to match outfits or be themed for holidays. I just made myself a 4th of July one.
After watching a few of these videos, I am starting to feel a little better about myself. I live alone and the tv is my dinner company. And I like saucy foods. Do the math LOL An apron just doesn't provide sufficient coverage. So this is next on my list of projects.
Hi Judy - Thank you for watching and commenting. I will be doing another video on the Dining Scarf to show you can make them longer (requires 4 pieces of fabric instead of 2 or 54" wide fabric) and wider if you feel you need just a bit more coverage.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I made some winter ones from 100% brushed cotton (have also used 100% cotton flannel on one side on other scarves) on a Live recently (ruclips.net/video/jD19-_kEobo/видео.html). I absolutely love these and am going to list them in my shop.
Thank you. I need to make one longer to my waist so that I can use it when I do dishes, etc. I do not have a dishwasher so I am always leaning up against my sink and have ruined so many shirts while washing dishes. I can also wear it when I am frying something on the stove. Once again, thank you for the “how to”.
Hi Cheryl, Thank you for watching and commenting. Thank you for giving me another idea of how to use this "scarf". I will be making another video on other uses and other fabrics to make this out of. To make it longer, either buy fabric that is 54-60 inches wide or if that isn't long enough for you just decide how long you want it and cut 4 pieces of fabric at 1/2 the total length (don't forget about seam allowances) and join 2 pieces each to make 1 side. Also, if you have an old bath towel around you might want to see if that is long enough and try to make a sample out of that for your particular use when washing dishes.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I will have more videos coming in 2024 based on the "dining scarf" with variations. I find them very useful and even keep one in my car for the times I have to eat and/or drink on the go!
Great idea. My young friend is getting married, a western wedding outside with taco bar. She asked me to make her a ‘bib’ , I love this idea, I think I’ll make it thinner around the neck, it’s October in CA & may still be a little warm.
I love the idea of making the bride a beautiful dining scarf for her special day! So many options for the fabric. I really appreciate your watching and taking the time to comment.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I have so many of these. I have them made out of summer weight materials (cottons, linens) and winter weight materials (brushed cottons, flannels). It makes me happy when I can share a project that is useful to others.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I will be doing more videos on different takes on this scarf. I have found more uses and will be making it out of different materials!
Brilliant. I was going to make myself an adult bib but this is classier. I can then tie this to my purse handle and have it handy when I go out to eat. Thank you for sharing.
Thank You for watching and commenting. I made myself one out of microfiber for when I brush my teeth because I kept getting toothpaste splatter on my shirts from my electric tooth brush. I added a loop at the back neck so I could just hang it on one of the knobs of my bathroom vanity. You might want to think about a loop (velcro or snap closure) so you can secure it to your purse handle/strap. Let me know if you want me to do a tutorial.
I made a Senior napkin BOA I just cut the kitchen boa shorter and put the towel on the ends. these are a big hit to give to seniors in nursing homes and seniors who are having trouble eating. Also great for seniors with problems just making a mess on their clothes. Your idea is nice but the towel works better than just fabric. I did make one of yours but folks did not like it.
I say "To each their own". Glad you found something that works for you. I, personally, do not want to wear a kitchen towel. I not only use my dining scarves at home, but take them to restaurants (I pick ones to match my outfit). My winter ones are great in that they keep me warm too and sometimes I wear one all day.
I understand and that is why I made myself some for home. I think I am going make some out of warmer fabric for winter. Thanks for watching and commenting.
ohh I been looking for that butterfly fabric near my location with no luck. I had the impressions is was a discontinued print. thank you now i am hopeful to find it again
Nairo - I so appreciate your taking the time to watch and comment. Unfortunately, I have had the fabric sitting around for 2 years so I don't know if they have it again. I will keep my eyes open and if I see it again I will let you know. I too love that fabric.
Hi Barbara, thank you for watching and commenting. These dining scarves have saved many of my tops. Now that winter is coming, I also love that they help keep my neck warm.
I have not top stitched any of the ones I have made and I have washed them several times. I iron them after washing. It is my personal opinion and preference NOT to top stitch the ones I have make out of cotton type fabrics, including brushed cotton. However, I did top stitch one that I made out of microfiber (video will be coming), to use in my bathroom, because of the nature and thickness of microfiber.
I have thought about making my husband an adult bib but somehow did not feel that it would be something he would feel comfortable wearing. I will make this scarf! My husband is a golfer. I can embroider a golfer on both sides using green on one side and blue on the other side. I think he will be happy to use it anywhere! Also I could embroider a collage logo on each side or simply use collegiate fabrics! Love it.! TY!
Hi Marcy! Thanks for watching and commenting. I love your idea of embroidering a golfer on both sides of the scarf. This will make it more "masculine". Using darker plaids of brushed cotton is another way. I wish RUclips allowed posting of photos because I would love to see what you come up with. I do have an email listed on my channel page in the description (About) if you want to email me a photo.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I also did a "Live" recently where I made a Winter fabric one of the Dining Scarf and am finding I like wearing them during the colder weather. It is under my "Live" tab. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/jD19-_kEobo/видео.html
Fabulous idea!! Thank you for sharing. I can't get through a meal without spills on my chest. At a restaurant I have to dip my napkin in my ice water to wipe the spill, not always getting it all off... and it looks ridiculous. I will definitely use your technique for this classy style Bib.
Yes - grease stains are the worst. I found using some Shout stain remover and a little Dawn dish detergent and cold water to hand scrub out the stains. I then let it line dry to make sure I got it all and then throw it in the regular wash. However, I am tired of doing this which is why when I am home I use my Dining Scarf. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank You for watching and commenting. I will have further tutorials on variations of a dining scarf. I am finding the ones I made for this tutorial very useful.
Hi Dorothy, Thank you for watching and commenting. I am about to do another tutorial video using warmer fabric. I used brushed cotton and cotton flannel and honestly I have been keeping one on all day on colder days.
I am not chesty, but I sure do end up with food or drips almost every time I eat. I even lean over! Go figure!! This is wonderful. A "bib" without looking like a bib.
Thank You for watching and commenting! You do not have to be chesty to end up with food or drips on your shirts. Depending on the fabric you make these from they really do look like scarves. For example, I have some winter ones made from brushed cotton shirting fabric and they look like regular scarves. Bonus - I found out they are nice and warm too! Check some of them out on my website: 2andor4.com under Collections-Winter Dining Scarves so you can see what I mean. Also - under my LIVE tab there is a video where I made one during a Live.
@@2andor4 thank you for the inspiration. My extended family commented at Christmas the towel boa I made for her was warm on her neck and she may use it for warmth!! I think she may be getting another scarf!! Lol!!!
Now I don't cut off the salvage as I use the line as my sewing guide and it allows the material lost to the new seam allowance to be added to the length.
Thank you! The next one I make I am going to use a decorative snap and make it out of a brushed cotton for the fall weather. I find they are good neck warmers too.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I can’t take complete credit for this idea but I have modified it and also made it it in several different types of fabric. I am also experimenting with different types of closures. I now keep one in my car for road trips.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I think you could absolutely do that and I like the idea. I would probably make it a little longer so you could easily wipe your hands on the towel part.
I love this idea of having this kind of scarf. Im always struggling with having big boobs and them being exposed LOL I feel like this would be perfect as a addition to any outft. Thank you for sharing! You did amazing
Nairo - Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. It is appreciated. I have other ideas for this scarf. I want to try different fabrics that have good drape and flow which will give it a "softer" look (like a Rayon challis). I also want to make it out of warm brushed cotton shirting plaids (Joann's has a Platitudes brand) for the colder months. I am also going to use a decorative 2-sided snap which will make it look like it is a small "brooch" instead of the velcro. I too feel exposed with my "big boobs" and look to have clothing accessories to make me feel less exposed.

Just moved into independent living and many residents wear bibs, these would be more fun and dignified

Thanks Naomi.
Very informative & well done. 👍😋
Thank you for watching. I’m hoping to make some more dining scarves out of warmer fabrics and using a decorative 2 sided snap soon.
how did I miss this video!? I love the adult scarf/ bib!! Great way to be classy and possibly messy at same time!

Very pretty ring. Reminds me of one left to me by my grandmother.
I’m so sorry. I did not see your message until now. Thank you. I have had the ring for a very long time.
Absolutely brilliant idea. I need to make one for the day after tomorrow - just as well I am retired lol. Thanks for sharing your ingenuity 🙂
Hi Barbara, thank you for watching and commenting. These dining scarves have saved many of my tops. Now that winter is coming, I also love that they help keep my neck warm.
Just wondering if this needs top stitching around outer edges so it doesn't separate when laundering?
