- damianbacci.com In this lesson I'll be teaching you how to play one of the greatest of all time rock and roll guitar intros ever. That was played by Chuck Berry on his 1958 classic "Johnny B. Goode".
If there ever was an intro that deserved to be called "classic", this is it for sure!!
Thank you for watching. :)
Keeping the B- and E-strings in place while doing those final two bends on the G-string is challenging!
Chuck Berry had it all.Brilliant songwriter, guitarist & performer. His songs always get the party going.
Thank you for watching the lesson Michael :)
Keep on Rockin'
DAMIAN
Brilliant. Best lessons out there. Thanks.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Cheers & keep on rockin' :)
Love the positive energy Damian puts across in his videos. Great channel..👏
Thank you very much. I really appreciate it. :)
He sounds like he’s being sarcastic / addressing a group of intellectually disabled folks...🦈
Chuck Berry's guitar playing is pure electricity jumping out of the speakers!
Great video!
Thank you Paul :)
@@Damianblf Damian, I wanted to tell you that of all the big-name guitarists who've listed Berry as an inspiration (John, Paul, George, Keef, Ronnie, Setzer, and long list of etc's...), you're the only one who has played it spot on as Chuck Berry did without adding or substituting a phrase or getting the timing screwed up. All of these cats are legendary but YOU, Sir, are the first person I've ever heard who could nail those phrases just like they sounded on the old Chess 45's.
Just wanted to let you know, I hear the difference. Keep Rockin'!
Damian, I just want to add that your lessons are amazing and have really helped my playing as well as exposed me to new artists. Thank you. Keep doing the words of wisdom.
Thank you very much Victor. Glad you're enjoying the lessons. :)
The Bacc abides. I already knew how to play this, but how could I not come in to get the history, along with some wisdom and inspiration from the man himself? Easy answer: I couldn’t. Thank you, Brother.
Thank you very much Paul. Much appreciated. :)
You the Man Damian!
Thank you for the kind words.
Have a great weekend & Keep on rockin' :)
Damien always hits his riffs note for note perfect. Thank you Damien.
Thanks Antonio and thank you for watching the lesson. :)
Just getting started learning this. It was your tutorial I chose to came to first. Thank you for all you do…….. you have taught me so much. You are such a fine guitar player.
Thank you very much. I hope the lesson was helpful. Cheers & keep on rockin' :)
Well explained .Excellent tabs and great tips .Thanks Damian .
Thank you :)
When learning this years ago I was interested to hear that the intro is a combination of two guitar parts. The guitar that plays the first four bars goes on to play the rhythm part with the second guitar part taking over the lead at bar five.
Always good to hear from you, D.
Thank you for watching the lesson. Much appreciated. :)
Cheers Damian Chuck's and other music you focus on must be kept alive!!!
Thank you for watching. :)
Nice job. I’ve been plying that for decades but love hearing others nail it too. I’ve only seen a few people on YT who have it right and teach it, and you did a fine job. Long love RnR!
Thank you Mike :)
God Bless ya Damien. I always look forward to your lessons.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate it. :)
That intro is spot on Damian... notes, sound, tone, timing perfect.

One of the best tunes of all time.
Definitely agree. When I was a little boy this was one of the songs that sparked my interest in the guitar.
I'm eagerly awaiting the lesson for Dopesmoker.
Gonna check this one later. Because now… FOOTBALL BABY! I needed this lesson btw.
Have a great weekend brother. Enjoy the lesson. :)
Excellent lession
Thank you :)
The Norman Vincent Peale of RnR teaches a lesson on the man's style who invented RnR guitar! To paraphrase BB King somewhat... Just keep on doing that/this till the day you die Damian! Rock on! 🤟
Guess you guys weren't ready for that....... but your kids are going to love it 🎸
I love that quote you mention by John Lennon. The Telecaster sounds and looks reeeal sweeeet. Just wondering, do you use it on specific songs for a cetain sound, or just when you feel like it? It sounds just right for Johnny B Goode.
rockabilly on bro....so cool
Thank you James :)
Good one, thanks Damian 🤘
Thank you very much. Enjoy the lesson. :)
You sound great !
Thank you Alberto :)
Would Love it if you could teach Hallelujah I love her so from Eddie Cochran. I've never seen a proper guitar tutorial on that song.
That's a great song. I'll put it in my request book. :)
That was a nice view of the bay but I actually love the old 50's postcard even more. (Sunny Tampa Bay)
I love those old Florida postcards. Thanks for watching. :)
Legend
You should have a contest of what all big bands covered it... I know 3 off that I've seen in person.
I played it out of A
Thank for watching Joseph. Much appreciated.
What a fun!
Thank you for watching :)
The Curator, that's your new nickname (for me at least.) ;o)
Thank you Mark for the kind words. Very much appreciated :)
Technical question. Not a criticism. Why did you go with the telecaster on this one. I think Chuck played an es295 (or similar model) on his early recordings. I think he then switched to the es335 by the mid sixties.
If the notes or technique changed when playing an ES-295 vs. a Tele, I'd say you had a point.
I believe on Johnny B. Goode, Chuck used his ES-350TN,. But back to your question. Most of my guitars are strung with very heavy gauge strings and usually with a wound 3rd. But my Tele is always strung with some light gauge strings which would be perfect for the G string bends on this lesson.
Hi Damian. On the bends, you actually let them go down a tiny bit before striking the next string. Is that what he does on the original? Thanx much 😎
I'm bending fully on the G string and then releasing my finger as I strike the B string at the same time. When I let go of the G string you can't hear the string coming down in pitch because I'm no longer playing the note. The lesson is accurate to how Chuck played the intro. Thanks for watching. :)
@@Damianblf Thanks a bunch! These videos are so tasty 👍☺️
how many guitars do you own damian and which are the ones you prefer?
Hi Mark
My favorite guitars are hollowbody guitars. :)
Great lesson... hard to grasp it on a tele though... lol
Damian, that Telecaster sounds really good. Is the tone knob rolled back a bit?
Thanks for watching Scott. I had it rolled back just a little bit.
Why on the Tele?
Because why not ?
Can you do a Jimmie Vaughan or Robert Cray lesson?
damn this rocks!
Thank you brother :)
I Fought the Law and the Law won -The Bobby Fuller Four!!
That's a good one. I'll put that down in my request book. :)
Nice job! :)
Thank you very much. Enjoy the lesson :)
Great
Thank you for watching :)
John Lennon was correct! Thank you so much for everything you do for us Bud!
Thank you Joe :)
I clicked as fast as a starving man 😛
Thank you for watching. Enjoy the lesson. :)
Some Greatful Dead
it starts off the pick up notes and 4 and 1
and slides into that repetitive lick on the 6th fret .
the repetitive lick on the 8th fret the snare hits the 1.
then the snare picks up on 4 and the band joins in on 1 .
You have to understand the timing or you will train wreck the band .
You seem like a nice dude, but you talk too damn much. You take too long to get to the business. You should cut down on the introductory speechs and get to business, otherwise, it's a bit annoying.
