    Nice job! I just finished this in my 2004 Baja turbo! I used the JDM heads and bored holes in the passenger side for oil drain and coolant return because my heads were worn too badly. Posted a vid of my swap too. Keep it up

    Ive had about 9 WRXs , 3 of which blew up... heres my take on the EJ20's problems after rebuilding a few engines..
    .Aluminium block prone to flexing
    .2 cylinders per head, less clamping force compared to a 4 cylinder car, heads are prone to lifting.
    .bearing area is smaller compared to traditional IL4 engines, easy to spin the bearings
    .oil system is poorly designed prone to oil surge.
    .they are the worst engine on earth to work on, super labour intensive!
    .in general its a poor choice for a track car unless fully built.
    .EJ20 > EJ25
    .still a better choice than an evo FQ-Moneypit🤷‍♂️
    However I still own a 1993 WRX because its super cool, sounds great, spits flames and is a 1200kg AWD turbo car which I bought for £1500 5 years ago 😂🤷‍♂️ here in the UK they have always been really cheap (untill recently) and I just kept buying them as the equivalent AWD VW or Audi was like 8× the price.

    This engine should drop right in to a 2010-2011 Legacy GT. Those cars have the bottom-mount turbo, scavenge pump, 4-cam AVCS and they do NOT have the secondary air injection which you are incorrectly calling EGR.

    What year was that engine from? I have a JDM EJ255 which came out of a 2004 STI Forrester and it should be a direct swap in other than the absence of an air pump for 07 and up. I’m guessing that one you have came out of a later model like 08+.
    I bought it as a replacement for the motor in my 2007 outback XT however the JDM version has the B 25 heads which are not compatible with the D25 heads that are required for using the factory air pump on the USDM 2007+. I’ll just have to find a naughty tuner to help me when I do. I would love to learn how to use RomRaider but I loathe computers.

    You completely glossed over the lack of engine mounts on that ej255 5th gen engine, lol. They have mounts coming off the transmission rather than the typical ej25 mounts...so yeah it wont just drop right in by changing a few things. I guess the heads, intake, and exhaust could be considered "a few things".
    These ej255s were great for torque compared to the standard mount turbo.

      Usdm mounts will bolt up but that’s kinda the least of people problems to over come. Some one did put on in a Forster xt using these heads and it worked but definitely not a straight forward swap like most jdm substitutes

    I woulda just got a new oem crankshaft and put new main and rod bearings and new oem oil pump in the old engine but clean the hell out of everything alot of time but parts wise cheaper

    It's the oil pickup. Fix that and you're golden. Also the stock tune sucks and you should get an e-tune asap.

    Great video! On the USDM passenger side head, do you know what the threaded hole that sits above the EGR port is used for?

      Sold the heads and intake to some one using them for low mount big turbo build for $600

    Just had my ej206 piston rights fail and pretty sure I'm done with ej motors. Wish they could just make a better motor for these cars
