I bought a Japanese Stella 1000, not knowing that the spool was so shallow. Since I only use 2lb mono, I ended up ordering a Stella American version spool, so that I can get more mono on it. It was $100 for the extra spool and so far, no issues.
I use yarn for backing to increase the diameter of the spool. It is not tied to the monofilament but reduces the amount of line needed. Like Rob says, most of the line doesn’t see the light of day.
Informative video Rob. I hear that if you use monofilment for backing it should be at least 8 lb since the braid is super thin. You used fluorocarbon so was that the 5 lb you usually use ?
I used the 5lb fluoro in the video but I use whatever I have on hand at the time. Ive never noticed any difference when using other types of line. That said I wouldn’t use anything bigger than the 8lb stuff for backing on those small reels 🤘
real life video. I drop the spool all the time Thanks/ subbed.
Thanks I appreciate it 🙏
Another great video Rob. Very infomative. Which reel do you prefer and use?
My personal favorite is the Shimano Vanquish. Just an awesome reel.
Rob, THANK YOU for this video and all your other instructional videos. Tight line Brother!!!
Thank you for watching 🙏
Great video..I do it backwards I put the braid first then the backing then flip it never come up short on the spool tight lines
Your a genius! That is the best way Ive heard of to get it done!! Awesome

Really nice reels. Glad you got it set up the way you like it 🤘
Try the sinister braid on the shallow spool, that line is so thin you will gain a lot of casting distance .

Oh wow I never thought of that. That may be a winner in certain applications 🤘
can you do a video of wild trout fishing in streams with jigs, like santa ana rivers?
I may go up there and see how it is. I haven’t fished that area in many years

Awesome vid! How long of a leader of floro or mono on top of the braid would you recommend? Wondering if length of pole is sufficient.
Yeah the length of the pole is what Estevan does. I do about 5-6’ leader on my trout set ups and full length of the rod on my Pyramid set ups
NICE VIDEO BROTHA!! 🤙🏽
Thanks brotha 🤘
You’re right I don’t have time for that math either 🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣
Does the lb capacity matter on the backing line
No, as long as its not way heavier than the main line
You were reeling off line clockwise does it matter?
Ive honestly never thought about it. Ive always done it label up but I dont think it would make any difference. Ill try it and see
