My first Dead show. I was in high school. My mother drove us lol part of the way to the complete traffic shutdown on 495, then we hiked up an overpass and hitched the rest of the way - got a ride in a mini van riding along with the side door open - and drinking from a giant jug of wine - came into the stadium as Touch of Grey was playing. One of the best days of my life for sure.
Great stuff l was there
How fun!
That road into Foxboro made me late for a show before.😭 One road in? At a dead stand still? (No pun intended) I'd like to know who the heck designed that venue. Not the brightest mind(s).
___________
What a great show this is, though! I'm LOVING this set list!!
Of course, as soon as I say that, Brent Mydland comes on. LOL
Hi friend
Hi friend
Cool 😎 story
Just finished making dinner for my mother. She's 90 but when she heard the music she asked to be moved closed to the telly. "So that's what they look like! I remember you playing those albums over and over. They were happy times in my life."
Never knew she was a secret deadhead☺. THANK YOU for the wonderful music and memories.
Beautiful
Reading this made my day...maybe it made my month.
Wow
What a great moment! Even for me! Thanks
Jay I, Iove your story !!!! What a fantastic image ! mom and The Dead....it's 2022 now
This was my first show. I was 15. This is the day my life revealed it's purpose
My first show, came not knowing anything about how to dance, and left with a lifetime love of shaking my bones.
My first phish show my friend said I kept my hands glued to my waste while dancing. In later years, my hands became free!
as it should be...lol
my first as well :-) i had been taking dancing classes my whole life but i still didn't know how till this day ;-)
Nothing ever more American and proper than a Dead Show on the 4th of July.
Or any other day of the year.
Jerry had the history of American music at his fingertips- bluegrass, country, cowboy songs, jazz, psychedelic rock, heavy guitar, all his influences, shared with all of with dynamic guitar and joy!
R Perkins b
(
Pedal steel and banjo too.
Brent Left Nothing On The Field. Imagine being the kid that wanted to grow up and join your favorite band, then joining your favorite band & being a perfect fit. No wonder he was like he was.
Glad I saw this band. ❤
sometimes i forget just how special the grateful dead was. this video helps me remember.
Especially in Massachusetts! Most of my shows were in Northern California though.
Same everytime I watch another video I'm like this!!! This is why they're so amazinggggg
@@MCreedon34 So true!
Right there with you guys. And gal. 😂
Fourth of July with The Dead with the Marlboro and bud light ads in the background and it's the 80s.. That's the America I love.
Gone
I was 21 and drove down from Maine. Great show. Of course, as it used to go at shows, I ran into friends and old friends. One guy I bumped into that used to be a roommate said, "You still have my baseball glove!" I told him I'd bring it to the next show I went to wherever that would be. I mean, there were only ~ 100,000 people there with no cell phones. How did we do it? - The parking lot was crazy with fireworks after the show... Another crazy story - In the parking lot I got a burrito from the 'burrito bus'. Delicious. 15 yrs later I was living in the VI playing jazz. I met a chef that was doing private dinners etc. He was the burrito bus guy! We became good friends and helped get each other gigs..
Love your story! ❤
@@Tee-Jay-y Thanks :) Here's another one. I was at a show in Worcester. I bought a great T-shirt from a guy in the parking lot. It was tie-dyed, and also had a print on it. It said, "Life is a bowl of Jerry's." And it had a drawing of a bowl with a bunch of Jerry heads in it - (different Jerry hair, ages, smiles, sunglasses whatever). Ha! Thinking of it still makes me laugh. A few years later I met him. It turned out that he was my girlfriend's best friend in high school. Life is a bowl of Jerrys! :) Wish I still had that shirt.
Tonight is right. Luv the boys
Listen
I just saw myself in the audience 😆😍🎼✌️
I was looking too. We were about ten people back from the wall in front of Brent. Wild day!!

I was at this show in the taping section with my friend. We both had just graduated from Stonehill College. We are considered young to be Dead Heads. Now at 54, I had the greatest time of my life. Its not the same anymore, but the music is always there and floods of good times come back. Happy Birthday Jerry!
Check out Dead and company
Great story!!! N I'm not being sarcastic realised that people say that sarcastically now after I type it hah but I live 15 minutes from the stadium but I'm only 32 luckily got to see dead n co at Gillette this summer tho hah
I was at this show too, I was 16, I saw my first show in '84 when I was 13 - I 'm glad you had fun but I wouldn't consider 21 or 22 "Young to be Dead Heads".
Take care.
@@plm8550 Did they spray fire hoses into the crowed because it was so hot at this show? I get a few of the shows I was at confused for some reason. lol.
@@davidkris I don't recall, David, after 33 years my memory's faded, they very well may have.
Great memories. Drove down from Vt my best friend for his first dead show. He’s gone now. Car overheated, bunch of brothers and sisters helped push us into the lot. Got home at sunrise. Band was crankin’.
This is a banging show! Those Yankee Deadheads brought 100% enthusiasm! Great show!! Can we also appreciate how good Jerry is sounding, and what a kick ass job Brent did? Love it when they get to giving each other The Looks. ❤😂
Been waiting 31 years to see this show again. Best video yet Holy Crap- Thanks
CHEERS ! ! !
I love reading all the great comments of the memories of this show
900,000 Tons Of AWESOMENESS!!!
Thank You Brent!!!
OMG...this was my first Dead show!!! Saw Jerry circling around our parking lot in a helicopter on the way to the venue. Memories!
Remember that dude running over the port a potties? Hahah I was with a girl on her first trip. I hope I helped her feel loved when she needed it.
My first show too, life changed after that
@@observer7418 um...
a friend of mine met Jerry at the small airport in Worcester as he was a worker there. he helped Jerry's helicopter land and got a special nod and wave from jerry

I miss this band so much, they still put a tear to my eye on how tight many of their live show's we're. I've been to so many, i can't count.
First show Fillmore East 1967 8 when they we're promoting their Anthem of the Sun album. They came on at 11:30 pm and jammed till dawn with only one break.
Ya never forget killer memories.

The world needs more Dead right now. Pure smiles. :)
something special about seeing them in your home state...ahh those boston garden shows in the 90s...miss u jerry
They are having so much fun! I love when Jerry hits a loud chord and throws his arm up and smiles and looks around and his band mates and the crowd. You can hear is joy and gratitude and love of music in every note. Miss you Jerry
Making fun of Bobby.
Ff focused
Bobby is FIRED UP and about 5 seconds ahead of the band lol. 👃🏻
Good Lord they opened this show and mowed the audience down! This is one of the best videos I have ever seen Thank you Jerry I love you and miss you!!
Wow, this brings back memories. The day, ridiculously HOT and humid. The band just firing on all cylinders. Me and my friends on the floor stage-left were equally sun-baked and deep-fried. I don't think it registered with any of us how great a show it was until ... well, until I watched it just now. I feel blessed to have been there. Thank you for uploading this video. On a side note ... I remember waiting for US Blues (it was July 4th after all) but it never came. C'est La Vie.
I also remember a lot of gate crashers and wrecked porta shitters
Awee
Hotter than hell in a bucket !!
I had a blast that day! Thank you Grateful Dead for the memories :)
What a incredible show and day 💜. So grateful to have been there 😊💃🏾🎶✌🏾
I was at this show but we did not have tickets. we could hear the music good.
It was so cool I was about 18 or 19 . It was like going throw a time warp . the high way was moving a 3 MPH there was so much traffic we were pushing our cars. there were chicks with sun dresses selling pot brownies.Every one got along so well at that moment in time we were all brothers and sisters. I miss all the great times like that one.
such a wonderful time in my life...I wish i had a time machine.
It was a great time.
Sure do miss all these wonderful people having a great time all united in the Great - Full Dead musical experience. Thanks to whomever uploaded this concert.🤠

Hello
What a great year, what a great time. Lets remember how much love and community was involved here. And all the other years we gathered together to see the show and transcend into oneness.it took me 40 shows to get it 60 shows to really get it and by 100 shows, well use hour own imagination. This time and era of the dead is history and we were there. See you all someday.maybe jerry and Brent and the others we lost will be there waiting for us . we will survive Peace
Right on brother 🍄
I was working at this Nova metric place and my friend Jay got tickets to Foxborrow Mass. which is Sullivan Stadium my first DEAD show.We went up Friday afternoon to party ALL NIGHT long.Sun came up Saturday morning and l felt like l was in a DREAM.Keptt it semi together Sat morn and went into the stadium @ 3:30 -4. DEAD came on and smoked the first set obviously .Went down on the Floor and proceeded up front.I was so happy that we made it and it was definitely a trip.HOT as hell that day but the women had hoses going if you could get to them and everyone was just so GRATEFUL and happy to be there that 100,000 people where all dancing and getting along and l liked it,...
Actually l LOVED it.

I love you guys. Thanks Kevin Tobn.
I was tripping on mushrooms, was there after graduating high school the month before. Met Bill Walton that day. The parking lot scene that weekend was epic. A guy I lent my Greek theater (84 & 85) tapes to in NJ the year before wound up parking 4 or 5 spots away, recognized me and said 'Dude I got your greeks!' and got em back to me. I remember the hare krishnas dancing and wandering around all night, a woman handed me a gallon baggie of mushrooms because they were too intense, and seeing so many friends from all over new england at this show, it was magic. This show and one at SPAC a year or two later were two of the craziest best road trips/show trips EVER.
Everyone was especially screwed up that day. The band knew it.
Hell yeah. He was on the floor in front of Soundboard. Saw him
He towered. Went and shook his hand. 😎
@@Iloveit9643 really good Acid. 🤪
Thanx for this , it was the most relaxing 2 hours of my day leaving it all behind & joining the crowd in 87’💀✌️❤️🇺🇸

I was here, and i brought my mother,to her first and only Dead show
I hope she loved it....? At least not bored, right?
I'll have to ask her and get back to you on her opinion of the event. However,I know she will never forget the ride home.My friend, who was just a little too high on the six doses he took for what I think was his first trip ever, was getting agitated in the front seat.I was driving, and my mother was in the backseat sitting between my brother and cousin. The car is a volkswagen rabbit convertible. The large overhead highway signs we kept driving under all looked the same to him.He kept saying "why are we going through this town again?" of course I explained, but it made no sense to him.I knew he was going to reach for the steering wheel at some point. . . .Sure enough, . . under the sign , . . .his hand came for the wheel, I grabbed his arm and said "No (his name here) ! we are not going through the same town again,I promise you I am taking you home" .to which his reply was to turn to the backseat and exclaim "I'm sorry Mrs. (my mother's name here) I'm just having a bad Acid Trip " to which my mother retorted "what's acid ? " needless to say,no one has ever forgotten any of this.I dropped him off,and apparently,he went inside his house and crawled into bed with his parents !, I found out decades later. They apparently were not amused.

Really hot out that day. Amazing vibe. I miss Brent and Jerry. Thank you for posting this...
This is a “Greatest Hits” Setlist ... Love It!
Magical memories of a perfect show in good old Foxboro on the 4th of July. It does NOT get any better than this.
I remember someone had climbed the old water tower in the back lot and painted a stealie on it. The future's here and we are on our own.
This is an amazing video of an amazing show. For one of the comments above, this is the whole dead set. There was only one set. Bob Dylan did the second set.
Were you there
Needed this now more than ever. We will survive this.
Jerry feelin that WEST LA! Thx for posting.
I was at this show about 25 feet out from Jerry. Great Show Great Tunes. A unique 1st Set - they jammed a lot of good tunes into that set and Drums and space too. 2nd set was the dead backing dylan on dylan tunes. Great 4th of July!
Beauty recording 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉love the ride!!!!!
That Wharf Rat tho! Was there-still gives me chills!
This is amazing. The band is on fire and everyone in good spirits. The exchanges of looks during Uncle John's Band were priceless. Doesn't matter how many times you play that song... Its a fuckin' tornado of lyrics that get swirled all together and you just can't seem to get them right no matter how hard you try lol
All I can think today in hearing this ... how lucky we are to be on the Bus right now and not stuck at school...or anywhere else for that matter... blessings all...Shout out to SEVA!!! and LaubstrerVideo!!!

Hey Jerry R. where you been?
that's awesome! Brings back great memories being there!
I was there, they sprayed the crowd with water to cool us down. When we got back to my car it was covered with gunpowder residue! Happy 4th of july!!
I was there too. Best ever
This is way better than I remember it being at the time. What a great set.
wHAT A GREAT RECORDING! Damn!
My friends and I had seats next to some local gang...one of the guys kept stomping his jackboots and yelling "Jack Straw!!"...guy sitting beside him looked like a Tasmanian Devil so I wasn't going to say anything. Thankfully by halfway through the first set half the people in the seats had gone down to the infield so we escaped to friendlier territory. One great show!
What a great tour!😎💨💨💨💨💨❤️✌️
It was one of the hottest days for a concert. People were passing out all over the place.
Wasn't Bob Dylan there? I remember it was so freaking hot I was wearing jeans.

Hey Now Sean (who I know through a certain fbook couch group, if it's the same Sean Baker). This was my 3rd Dead show (2 in 86). Think I saw you in the parking lot ;)
mine too!!
Does Lucy mean the first time you took LSD?
Jay Norr I .ove your story !!! It's 2022 now. You and your mom ,,, a great pair !!!
This was before they shut down the lot camping scene. Remember (sort of) rolling in before noon on the 3rd and leaving in the wee hours after the show. Long ass two, hot days... but one of my favorite experiences. Show was solid, but we were all still expecting two sets, and then a third with Dylan, and there was a bit if a let down when we figured things out. Still a great time and the only Box I ever saw.
Tim doggett completely agree 100% felt a bit shortchanged when they ended about 8PM. But the parking lot scene was good, anyway had a great time.
Tim Doggett Good show, I also felt a little short changed with the one long set, but they made up for it following week at Giants Stadium. 2 sets, still somewhat of a short show but they were on fire. We didn’t stay for Dylan cuz they were so hot.
Thanks for posting this, unlike the 4th of July 1976, I seen Elton John, at Schaffer Stadium in Foxboro MA, lousy audio recording of that show.
I was there. Broke into it. Climb the high fence near backstage with a couple of heads. . Challenge 55 now. Ran into my sister. We are from NY. We had no idea. That we see each other know or know we were there
She went to Keene State. NH. Ran into her middle of floor. Chances of that. Both trippin balls. She's wasn't no Acid head.. Looked at each other, smiled and hugged, and walked away. Her eyes were big as pies. Asked before we walked off. You Tripping? Laughed my ass off. It wasn't till she came home and asked. Did I see you in Foxboro at the Grateful Dead show. Laughed
My ass off again. Good Times. Least I'm enjoying the ride.
Two years later (7-4-89) at Rich Stadium in Buffalo, NY, was an epic Dead 4th of July gig!
Truck’n up to Buffalo ⚡️ 💀 ⚡️
Agree. Rich stadium show was the balls.
I was at this show as a young lad-awesome....................
I took my friend Darrin to his first Dead show this day. He still thanks me!
I had just moved to Boston in April of '87 fresh out of the Army. Working at Walden's bookstore in Needham, I introduced the manager to the Dead. He was hooked. I had tickets to this concert, gave or sold them to him, so I could head back to DC for a weekend with the GF. Some regrets, you just have to live with!
Brent just fit in perfectly. I was my favorite keyboard player. His sound was so rich and tasty!
I was there to IREMEMEBE IT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY I LOVE THEM MORE THAN GOD
Then you're missing the point, you should love yourself more. We will get by ❤⚡
when jerry was just standing there doing nothing smoking a cigarette, the people would go crazy with applause, that is how much everybody loved him!!!!!!!!!!!!
sam hamdan Wonder how much an authenticated Jerry Garcia cig butt would go for?
I sure do miss and love him Sam
Was stationed at Ft Devens, MA in 1987, the Dead came to New England 3 different times that year, I saw 9 of those shows, this being one of them, I'd then return to the base to do the Army thing, lol......
Army, Harley, Friends, 4th of July (USA Independence Day), Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead.....what a party..... Thanks Grateful Dead.
My cousin & I decided last minute to go to this show & buy a ticket outside or what has happened to me in the past someone handing me a ticket.
Unfortunately the only people we found with tickets were outsiders doubling or tripling the price. So we walked up to the stadium & were walking around the side when we heard the cheering & finally the opening notes of Touch of Grey.
We both agreed that it's a shame not to be inside but we can hear the music & that's what we came for.
Then all of a sudden these 2 guys walked up with a group & lifted the fence about 4ft up right in front of the open concourse of the stadium. We dashed with about 50 other people under scattering all over the place the couple of security guards who were there just stood in shock!!
We ran up the stairs into the bowl & down towards the floor on Phil's side & there we stayed for the rest of the show!
And it was a great show!!!
Joey, Joooeey!
Would have loved to have seen them live
i was there, I wish I could go back !
Me too. Half a lifetime ago, I remember so much fun.
I’m just a music lover, here to say that this is truly genius.

Bretton Maybee fuck the flag
For us that were there there back in the day, it was a uniquely American experience: The freedom, the open road, Denny's 3am... Jerry likened it to a latter day joining the circus.
A Dead show on the 4th? Hell yeah Wave that Flag!
Best American band of all time

Summer Tour ‘87 was so fun, stadiums and smaller venues like Roanoke & Pittsburgh Civic.
This guy is Grim Reaper of all music he slays in that’s all there is to it
Yeah I was there. We drove out from NYC to Alpine for June 26, 27, 28; then to Toronto for the 30th. Crossed back and crashed at my old SUNY roommate's place in Buffalo, then Silver Stadium in Rochester for July 2nd. Foxboro was the 4th, Dylan played a set if I remember correctly. Because of this no tapers were allowed. I think we attempted to tape anyway, and it came out horrible. That's why I don't remember much of this show. If you listen carefully, the audio on this vid sounds like audience, not soundboard. We probably drove back home to NYC after this; my pal went on to Philly, and we both returned to Giants Stadium to see them again with Dylan. This tour was right when In The Dark came out, breaking the dead into mainstream regular airplay, drawing many new fans to the concerts. So all thru the 80s they played the In The Dark material, but after '87 everything got really crowded, and much more ugly in terms of car accidents. I saw them in Buffalo on July 4th, 1986, the Farm Aid show, that was also with Dylan. Also Buffalo July 4th, 1989, which is a popular video as well. For a real blast, check out Saratoga, June 27, 1985. ruclips.net/video/4mO9h2r2qlc/видео.html
My grandpa drove us to our first Dead show. It was such a blast. Then he smoked us out afterward and we've been partying ever since!
