Hey! My first favorite band! In 4th grade I bought E Pluribus Funk with Christmas money because I liked the album cover.Once I listened to it I thought" Forget all about Elvis and Beach Boys."I was hooked. They are still one of my faves.I still listen to them often. What a great band. There will never be anything like them ever again.
I have listened to this song 3 times and I know why I love this band so much back in 1979 I remember having a party at one place or another Called Grand Funk survival night this went on from 1978 to maybe 1980 all we did was party and play all Grandfunk Allbums and we all had plenty to play
I ordered this album back in the day of 12 record's for a penny, now I'm 65 and hear music that sounds like the world 🌎 today, so the world must of always been this way, love and peace ✌️ Akron Ohio
Man, this dude could sing. Not just barking out rock lyrics, but a true quality voice. Mark, Don, and Mel were excellent! Even on those early, simplistic albums, it sounded like there were 11 guys in the band belting out those heavy blasting rock tunes. Truly phenomenal!
The Beatles came out on The Ed Sullivan Show (not that many people were coming out in those days lol), then The Rolling Stones .. but when this band released their first album, they became my first, and most favorite band EVER!.. and still are to this day. First there were three, and then became four (Craig Frost on keyboards). Don Brewer, and Mel Schacher Shanghai'd Mark, and tried to keep Mark from singing, performing any of Grand Funk Railroad's songs .. but Mark eventually won out. Mark Farner wrote 90% of their songs. Mark Farner shared his journey with us, brought us happiness, and Mark Farner was Grand Funk Railroad.
MARK FARNER IS A GENIUS, he wrote most of what he recorded,he and grand funk have been screwed royally by the hall of shame, the fact that he wrote this song ,sing it,and played rhythm, lead guitar is amazing feat,he must be acknowledged for his lifes work, along with the only band to ever sell out all stadiums, auditoriums, standing aisle only, seating, there is no justice
I still have the Black and Red Lettered "Mark, Don and Mel" Greatest Hits Album. I paid 1 cent through Colombia House Records! I played it over and over and over... This was my Band for All Time!
Just when I was feeling like hating my brother, I listened to this and it convicted me to stop even thinking about hating my brother, 'cause it does in fact cause LONELINESS. So thanks Mark. I remember your concert at Cleveland Public Hall 1970. Grand Funk under Led Zepplin, and in my opinion, Grand Funk blew Zepplin away.
My twin brother and our younger brother learned to play at a young age (14 & 10) and learned the whole live album. We never failed to get the crowds going when we would play GFR tunes. I am now 65 and just ache to play all these songs with my brothers once again, but unfortunately due to an accident I had when I was 14, I have lost the ability to play as I have aged. Thanks to the boys for giving me some of the best times of my life. GFR forever!!
@@micaelgoodman2881 Update: My brothers and I are going to do one more get together for a wedding dance. I'm working my ass off for this and have rediscovered the piano lessons I had when I was 12. Though I can't play for as long as I used to, it will be great playing with those boys again. I'll keep you posted on how it went.
This song is so wonderful,at the time and again Grand Funk still one of the greatest American Band of all time,so great to live in these years, all theirs songs are fabulous.
I forgot how beautiful this song was. I'm 61, and yes we had some great music back then. Then came the 80s and music peaked. Seems like it's gone down from there.
Deb. I was thinking the same thing about their song “ I Want Freedom” from their survival album. Because like you said, the situation we’re in now. Seems like our freedoms in America are under attack.
gfr is truly one of the best bands this country has ever produced. their music has no boundaries or limits and speaks and touches the souls of whoever that will take the time to listen to what they are saying. if there were more banbs such as this to listen to I'm sure the world would be a better place to live just for the experience alone. thank you very much mark, don,Mel and all the other musicians who contributed to helping them get their unique style if music to the people. They are truly America's band and always will be as long as there are ears to listen.Rock on dudesn I'm sure every time God listens to you sing and play he is smiling.
I first sincerely pray to come to really hope to share with all you brothers and sisters about truly asking our Most Merciful Loving, Forgiving and Healing Father in prayer for every and all reason that our Loving God our Father, I'm sure would want all of the ones who believe in that Way, Truth and Life that He had His Beloved Son Jesus, The Good Shepherd and our truly real only Teacher, to fully understand on the way to love all what His Father and the Creator of everything perfectly beautiful too, well ones who would now choose to go deeper inside your hearts, and insincere prayer, to realize that our Loving Creator created only one other perfectly beautiful families on earth on land, in the air and all the sea creatures, and they have their natural purpose to live free, safe, unharmed and under the Merciful Wing of God. And so you see we all were deceived from every past teaching of even what every Christian and every other religious education institutions had been preaching about how to be truly blessed or obeying our Most Loving Creator Gods Commandments, and it's because they chose to ask and take the mined coins and the stamped paper currencies which keeps them serving that disobedient sinful corrupt world system. Now that many brothers and sisters have been enlightened and truly reveled of our Loving Fathers Miraculous Healing, to now acting on no more using that stolen money to be buying nor eating those beautiful families butchered products, including their eggs, milk or honey, but to pray daily to staying faithful and devoted to eating that what our Prince of Peace and Good Shepherd Jesus Christ eats, the healthy fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts. Our Holy Father will then begin to quickly open up your hearts and eyes to truly enlighten your mind to show how you would want to learn the Real Truth to receive the Real Healing from our Holy Fathers' Merciful Forgiveness, and to ask in prayer when you find time to look upon the computer about the True data & stats of how many newborn deformities and diseases that never get brought to every brother and sisters full attention, and there's so much of what one who is now sincerely seeking and truly wanting to find out about whatever questions of the past histories of mankind's stubborn judgemental teachings that couldn't have received the Real Blessed True Way and True Wisdom of what Blessings our Merciful Holy Father has for all those who humbly and faithfully stay obeying our Divine Creator Gods Commandments. So we must believe we can receive the Greatest of our Holy Fathers Gift of the Holy Spirit to go forth and freely get out to share all that what Christ Jesus had taught us to do, and that He would be with us always. For this, we give our Praise to our Holy Father Amen.stay praying and when you feel His miraculous healing you will surely see more and more on how He will deliver you from every evil temptation and you will get stronger in the Truth and be Blessed to become that Peacemaker to want to go and share "freely" to all your friends and neighbors His Way, Truth, and Life, The Good News. And Praise our Most Divine Holy Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ⚡️ Amen.
This song touches the soul. It's true, meaningfull and a real work of art. One of the all time greatest songs ever. Grand Funk Railroad FOREVER!!!!!!!!!
One of the Greatest Bands there is True Genius Musicians i love there music and the great message it shares ..it is even better today then ever Thank you Brothers !!!
my first concert, March of 1970, 9 days before my 13th birthday, general admission tickets, standing room only on the floor. 4 - 7th graders turn loose on the floor, while the one mom bought herself a nose bleed seat and told us where to meet when the house lights came on. We 4 learned a lot that night got stoned with all the pass-arounds, but we also knew we were seeing greatness at the same time. Cliff's mom took us to IHOP afterwards, she laughed at our being "lit". [she was a cool mom] She told the other 3 of us that we were sleeping at her house and she would bring us home Saturday morning. The rest of 1970, she took us to see Deep Purple, Ten Years After, and Jefferson Airplane and the Dead on the same bill. Was a year to remember for sure. I became addicted to seeing live shows. By the time I graduated in 1975, I had 70 concerts, from 76 to 86 another 101. Then my 10 year old son became my concert going buddy. His first was Poison opening for DLR, to which we left 2 songs into David Lee Roth's show, he was making the rock high poison left us with... Between 1986 and present he and I have seen 191 concerts, 47 of those were duplicates of ones I'd seen in the 70's and early 80's. GFR, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Who, Eagles, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Aerosmith, Jimmy Buffet, Willie, Thin Lizzy, Steppin' Wolf [w/ John Kay], The Edgar Winter Group, BB King, Clapton C,S,N&Y, Caned Heat, Doobie Brothers, Bad Company, Mountain, KISS, ETC.
i am from south africa love this band started listening to them when i was 14 am now 63 and i've got all their albums on cd and for the first time i can actually see some of their songs recorded live on the internet they are really excellent musicians
A great tune by the great Grand Funk Railroad! I had the "Mark, Don & Mel 1969-71" LP on cassette tape so long ago. I would play this particular song over & over until my cassette/stereo boombox literally ate the tape part of the cassette! I had to buy another cassette tape of this LP as a result. I think it's still in my dad's house somewhere in storage along with my other cassette tapes. Bravo, Mark Farner, Don Brewer & Mel Schacher!
I still have all their albums in fact just put a new needle on my record player, Grand Funk Railroad did not get the reconition they should have received....I am still so glad I grew up in the late 60's and 70's the were the best years that I have ever seen.....and the music was real....
jack saller no doubt great vocalist underrated and under appreciated their record company screwed them something awful and the manager took all their money in a law suit could have been one of the all time great bands in rock and funk great live.
Truly, this was one of thier finest songs that showed that they could really WRITE songs as well as they played them. I especially like 'E-pluribus funk' and 'Phoenix' for this purpose. I especially like the lead guitar work that runs over the "Can't get away from lonliness' refrain...powerful music and thoughtful words. Where has this kind of music gone????
So damn good!! Loved the original band line up. And Mark is still out there packing them in at his shows. The other guys are okay, but nothing beats what they once were.
40 years later I listen to this tune, and realize I was right. This is the very definition of talent. There simply is not a sufficient calling to compare this to today's noise. I remain genuinely disturbed at how such a talent could've been taken advantage of by such shallow management to the detriment of Mr.Farner. God speed Mark's message to the rest of this meaningless war for profit sphere called earth..
Thank God we have computers so that whenever we feel like looking up some of the really old classics like Grand Funk, we can, and listen to that great 60's and 70's sound again. This music will NEVER DIE... Just keep on tokin so that you can keep it in your mind, and it will NEVER DIE!! GRAND FUNK RULES!!
GFR was going to be on TV in the early 70’s. I was about 12. My big brother was going out for the night and said I should tape it with my new Panasonic cassette recorder. So I dangled the mic down by the TV speaker and got the whole thing. The sound was really poor obviously and my brother hardly listened to it but I listened to it like a hundred times. It was one of the reasons I wanted to learn the guitar and still play all these years later and also proud to be from Michigan like Mark Don and Mel
I bought this album in the seventees as a teenager and still have it. I've heard this track so many times, especially after 4.37... just magic. Greets form the Netherlands
Mark Farner amazing vocals in this song and also the music itself, which is fantastic !!! For me the most beautiful song of Grand Funk-a. I had an album Mark Don & Mail. Earlier when I heard this song I was happy, but today when I listen to this I am very sad and just as the name of this beautiful song says ............... '' LONELY '' the reason is that I soon lost his deceased wife, with whom I often listen to the best rock music of the 70s with the LP album. Love ❤ Peace ☮ Music ♫ ..... forever Music never dies † Long Live Rock`N`Roll ★
ES UNA CANCIÓN QUE ME HACE RECORDAR MIS MEJORES TIEMPOS, AME A MIS PADRES CON PASIÓN, AME A UNA NOVIA, AME A MIS HERMANOS Y AMIGOS, AME LA VIDA, SIGO VIVO, Y NO ESTOY SOLO, AMO LA VIDA.
This song and Upsetter are 2 great songs from E Pluribus Funk. Use to hear this song on KAAY in Little Rock,Arkansas. AM radio station that played classic rock late at night. This one is a classic.
I was sixteen when me and my friends danced Grand funk´s music in Valdivia, Chile in parties held in our homes...What beautiful days! or nights? How I wish those days come back! Life goes on and now I´m almost sixty, but those years are stil in my mind and my soul...Loneliness...a very underrated song but still one of the greatest...Lon live rock and roll!!!!
I think it is better that they are not in there. From every thing I have heard it is a lot of bull shit and if that is indeed the case then it is better not to push for them to go. After all real Rock and Roll in the dazes of Grand Funk Railroad was a battle against the establishment. I do not begrudge the good bands that are in the hall, but I do not push for anyone to be put there either. just my opinion.
In my opinion one of the greatest songs written of all time by one of the greatest 3 man rock band of all time! And definitely one of my favorite songs of all time and will fit in any generation! 🙏🚨😐
I am also 56 today, so I can definitely relate to that. GFRR was the first heavy metal I ever listened, also when I was a teenager. I had most of their LP's back then in my collection. However, sadly, I my LP collection in a house fire some years back now, when I used to live in Phoenix, AZ. But today, I have them all not only in my memory, but also on my I-Tunes account, Y-Tube Videos, and I-Pod. Thank God for digital media for that. Rock-On millerd55.
I saw them live before they made it big...1969 shiners convention hall in Springfield Mo....I was 17 and full of myself, Grass, pint of southern comfort, and good music... they were just getting it together and not long after went on to be a super group...
When you are surrounded by people.but you still feel lonely..that's true Loneliness.
My first favorite band. I was 14. I'm 61 now. This song is such a memory. Sweet band a little sad to know the years slip by so quickly...Tom Struska
60 yup
Yeah, it's sad that Mark's two band friends betrayed him.

A masterpiece! I only wish it was longer than 8 minutes.
G.O.A.T. =GREATEST SINGER & ROCK MUSIC OF ALL TIME! FIRE!
one of the best songs from Grand Funk ,is really a poem¡¡¡
My favorite Grand Funk song. Brings back memories from my teen years. Damn. music was good back then.
the late sixties and early 70's had such a influx of music that created todays music
I agree. I hear a ton of Metallica in this opening.
You have got that ass backwards.
Originally will always be played upon but, distorted somehow, from its intentions.
wtf? you cant even compare music nowadays with those days man. You cant see na evolution so….
This is not a trend... this is for ever and ever permanent!
millerd55 I am also 56 years old and you are right music today is not like back in the 70's. God I miss those days.
Still great! From the summer of my years!
I grew up just loving these dudes. In fact, they inspired me. I wanted to drum like this guy.
Just like greyshiloh, am too is 57 and still listen to all Grand Funk songs and I am a Malaysian
Grupazo. En la cúspide del rock. Siempre es un gozo escuchar su música. Cualquier disco es una joya musical
I bought this album in the seventees as a teenager and still have it. I've heard this track so many times, especially after 4.37... just magic. Greets form the Netherlands
Love 4 ever GRAND FUNK RAILROAD!!!RESPECT!!
Incredible voice and talent. The true heart of GFR.
Definitivamente, se adelantaron a su época, grandes músicos, en especial el hermano Mark Farner, el líder de la banda americana!!
Un temón, tremenda banda. ¡ Cuántos recuerdos de juventud !
Mark Farner amazing vocals in this song and also the music itself, which is fantastic !!!
For me the most beautiful song of Grand Funk-a. I had an album Mark Don & Mail.
Earlier when I heard this song I was happy, but today when I listen to this I am very sad
and just as the name of this beautiful song says ............... '' LONELY '' the reason is that
I soon lost his deceased wife, with whom I often listen to the best rock music of the 70s with the LP album.
Love ❤ Peace ☮ Music ♫ ..... forever
Music never dies † Long Live Rock`N`Roll ★
Grand Funk Railroad es inigualable en su género, los recuerdo desde sus inicios, moriré escuchándolos.
Obviously, the song is so beautiful, but, the words are so true and insightful and said 50+ years ago.. Think about that!
Only a few of the great ones could combine rock with an orchestra and really pull it off like GFFR! 54 yrs here.
Good tune 😢
What a good band, I can not explain why they have not been recognized in their proper measure. Grand funk Railroad is an icon of rock
ES UNA CANCIÓN QUE ME HACE RECORDAR MIS MEJORES TIEMPOS, AME A MIS PADRES CON PASIÓN, AME A UNA NOVIA, AME A MIS HERMANOS Y AMIGOS, AME LA VIDA, SIGO VIVO, Y NO ESTOY SOLO, AMO LA VIDA.
My GF favorite song;I've listened to it for almost a thousand times.Just wonderful song and lyric!
His words were my philosophy !
the message of this song more than 40 years later still stands up ...have we learned anything ........absofuckinlutely not.....
I'm surprised, right wingers don't foam at the mouth when hearing this;since climate change is still news to them. great song...!!
+brainsareus the best 3piece
+brainsareus
Mark Farner probably grew up and became a right-winger himself over the years. People often get smarter as they get older.
Amen to that
@@porflepopnecker4376 Smartest think iv'e heard today. Trump 2020.
This song and Upsetter are 2 great songs from E Pluribus Funk.
Use to hear this song on KAAY in Little Rock,Arkansas. AM radio station that played classic rock late at night.
This one is a classic.
Thanks for your comment - song brings back great memories. Young folks today will not experience such soulful music.
What a great voice!!!
Again, why NOT in the Hall of Fame?!?
Yes!!! ♥
That's FUCKING unfair !!
Jann Wenner probably doesn't like them.
Porque poseer tal o cual premio no lo hace peor o mejor grupo. Simple. No pasa nada si no están, ¿se entiende?
MARK FARNER GREAT VOCAL!!!!
In my opinion one of the greatest songs written of all time by one of the greatest 3 man rock band of all time! And definitely one of my favorite songs of all time and will fit in any generation! 🙏🚨😐
In the 80ths smoking pot and listening to GFR was always a good kick.
Thank u for this music.
Om shanti
Conocí a grand funk gracias a mi padre, hoy 1 de enero de 2019 lo recuerdo con éste tema que le encantaba.
Recuerdos universitarios,,,,gracias por compartirla
