You definitely caught the cabover bug just like me!
The air ride cab on those old Ford CL9000's looked like they were "chewing" when they were driving behind you in the rear view mirror.
I love those old CL 9000's ❤ Thanks for sharing Mike.👍
When I was a kid, Harris Transportation, from Victorville, CA. bought a Cabover Ford that was a wreck. Then they got one in a bit worse shape to fix the 1st one. The cab wasn’t air ride, so the driver, Jack Murdoch said it really sucked. It was a single screw 2axle pulling pneumatics and flat bed doubles. It was a nice looking truck, but no one wanted to spend 12/15 hrs a day in stop and go traffic getting the Shi-Shi beaten out of them.
Men were definitely tougher back then! There was a gentleman back in the early seventies used to drive a Ford 9000 Loaded with sodas. I used to love to watch him struggle to get up the big Hill right near my house you could hear him coming a mile away with a ton of black smoke...😊👍🏾
I had a 1984 Ford CLT 9000. Airride cab and suspension. 400 cummins, 13 speed. They were so far ahead of their time in engineering. In my opinion to this day nothing compares. The ride was unbelievably good. The cab air suspension was high maintainence as was the a/c system but they were an engineering marvel just the same.
Those CL9000's are pretty rare these days, bunch of good parts at least. Cool yard full of classics. Hopefully the stuff gets saved that's still good.
The forest that grows cabovers
I think that family has every truck they've owned on that property in some shape or form
Lem probably went for the deal that saved him the most money instead of being loyal to a brand.
When you tapped on the grill, it had to be like a fire alarm at the mouse motel.
Been looking forward to your next video thanks Mike!!
Been looking forward to your next video as well
Man I wish I could restore that western star cabover
My dad ran a1985 Western Star cabover for Aggressive for 4 years , 475 Cummins and one of the most comfortable trucks to drive.
This is Eli and I love the video and the truck and stay safe out there my friend
I never have seen a Western Star cabover.
Hi Mike, just going over your blog and I saw a good drop deck trailer for you ,a red one,it looks very long,
It would be awesome to get guy to talk a bit. I always wonder about the men who let their yards and treasures return to the earth. Glad I found your channel man! Cheers from Santa Cruz Ca
Same
Ah its a Western Star cabover VERY RARE!!!. They were White Road Commander cabs.
That Western Star cab looks salvageable, I've seen cabs like that in the US but out East they're branded "WhiteGMC" instead.
Looked more salvageable than those ford's did. But the longer they sit there the less likely they'll be saved.
@@benmac940 I feel that, there's an old man locally with quite a lot of older (1970s and early 1980s) trucks and it makes me sad to think those trucks will likely become scrap before anything is done with them. Lots of "square-body" GM pickups and Blazers and even a few International Scouts.
Fun fact, Western Star had a manufacturing facility in Kelowna for year's - 1967 till 2002 when they moved manufacturing to Portland - (perhaps the cabovers were made elsewhere) - (Apparently, they are about to knock down the old plant to make way for a Lowes - search for more info)
Those Ford CL grilles and 9000 emblems are worth BIG Bucks if they are decent.
I just watched both ya videos Mike.
Alot of history there rusting away, good to give them a you tube life for us to see
some great gems there never seen a L9000 before.
Thanks for the video was great
Maybe that steering wheel was tied off to keep the front tires straight in order to tow it to its resting place. ?
Having watched Ron Pratt thats the first thing I thought of.
Now that W Star cabover is definitely worth saving, you don't see many of those very often. Cheers !
If that was a winter-front for Kenny, get it for a pattern for a new one. It will save your canvas guy/gal and you, a wack load of time and money. Cause I know when you get Kenny finished, it wont be a summer time only driver.
Best wishes all.
Im obsessed with cabovers. Those western stars are sweet! I didnt know they had star car cabovers lol
Never seen a Western Star cab over. It needs to be saved.
The damn sleeper looked pretty good in the Star, I liked that.
Drove a star CABOVER hauling a 34 ft gravel dump trailer in ALBERTA BACK IN 1981
I would so enjoy getting that Ford 9000, but the transport and other fees kill any viability on getting it for me lol
When I worked at a plating company (back in 1981), one of our major customers was Ford Motor Company. I saw a lot of these coming and going. They also had a number of the old style cabovers, and a few with the turbine engines. The turbine ones had crazy large exhaust stacks.
would be cool to see a turbine truck
@@mikethetrucknut According to the Ford drivers, they put out a wheelbarrow load of torque.
I used to drive a CLT 9000 , it was an amazing ride , Mine did not lean to one side like they were claimed to do the ride on mine was set up to not do it.
5 GRAND FOR THEM ALL WOULD BE WORTH IT👍🏻
Like the three story Edsel.Reimer Freightways out of Alberta had a bunch of them back in the early 80's.Had Cummins with air start. Also had silicone jell block rear suspension.Hendrickson product.
MUY BUENA MÁQUINA
Hey Mike, I currently own and run a 97 Western Star 8x4 cab over running a 12.7 Detroit 60 series rated at 500hp bolted to a 18 speed overdrive gearbox here in New Zealand.
It's based on the British ERF cab over truck.
It's a solid truck and never let me down and still runs great to this day.
That's awesome 👍
Any cougars in here 90 year old lot lizard rolls out of the bunk lol
Great vid Mike!
Someone save those cab overs!🙏
New workshop 8 trucks now all you need is a crew of workers to get the restos done
#goals 😉
You get them wheels and shine em up
Porter greetings! 🇺🇸 Hey, I didn’t hear the monkeys. That 2nd Ford was a double bunk! Yeah!!! 🤩 They sure we’re big. I’ve never been in one like that. I think that someone should get in there and save them there cabovers!!!! 😳 That’s the good thing about junkyards! This is a video to ENJOY! Bring on some more!
Boa tarde sempre top serviço desse caminhao meu amigo
Wow that truck when through a lot of name changes. It starter as a White Western Star cab over was first we called them Japanese freightliner back then. then they became a Western Star. Then they were call White GMC for a year or so Then they became Volvo white ten just Volvo. They were sold of at the same time Autocar were sold off to it owen company. Autocar never built the big cab over that I know of but the expeditor cab which is the small cab over is still going today. I hope I got the history right as there were lots of name changes to that truck.
Western Star's are cool. Maybe somebody should rescue those. There are enough parts between them to get pretty far along a project ...
That looks like the speedo by the foot pedal..
Damn a cabover western when did we see one of those last👀interior is not that bad
i always picture the day they rolled off the assembly line
Yes! Having been to the Peterbilt factory in Dennison, TX., has stayed with me for many, many years. To think that so many memories were created in those factories is mind blowing!
I’ve been in trucking since 1969, and to this day I love it. I’m grateful that my health took me out of the game in ‘14, simply because I could never stomach these modern day “truck drivers”.
These new guys wouldn’t make a pimple on a real TRUCK DRIVERS butt!
Last time I saw a Westren star cabover was a 82 I think in 88
man that would be fun to explore
Mike that blue Ford integrated on the Mud,,was it a Ford or Sterling? You don't see Marmon nor. Diamond Reo on salvaged yards
my uncle used to have the same day cab CL ford 9000 in Dominican Republic
Love to have 75 Ford Cabove Robert n.c
I find it weird that they are so randomly parked out in the bush. Were they just like this truck is done just go park it in the trees?? Wouldn’t you just have a section of your land to part the junk trucks in more organized way?? 🤷♂️
Probably was a empty field when they were parked
The trees came up afterwards
There is a well mowed field near my house from the 70’s that is now very thick and impenetrable with dense growth 10-12”+ diameter trees. It hides an old David Bradly diesel farm tractor. Would take a few days with a chainsaw now just to access the tractor.
Last time I saw the tractor was 20 years ago. It was difficult getting to it then.
The tires were rotted off. Someone got away with the radiator. Everything returns to nature. Very true. Mother Nature is actually very aggressive in some situations ( rainfall being a major factor)
I was pretty sure it was an ntc 14l cummins . Shes a project right enough . But shes sure home sweet home to something furry and with teeth i d say . speakers still on it so it actually likes music lol . Id say cl fords would be rare now . Pity its got a screaming jimmy in it be far better with a hummin cummins in her . Be cool with a n14 525 and and eaton twin split box in it .
Restore that flat deck to go behind kenny.
Then put the 2 fords on it and take them to shows
Theres you another strobe light to match the one on kenny… you should get it and put it on kenny to match
Me da mucha pena ver estos camiones abandonado
Where’s our Pete Mike’s shirts to rock, need one in Dallas, mix it up throw Kenny on there😎😁Even nice polos to wear with boots.
It's coming.... 😉
so the western star cabover the first on motor was green if i am right could be a detroit diesel
What's up
This is typical of man and his insatiable appetite. Keeping these trucks while they slowly return back to its constitutional atoms.
It’s a true shame those who have a passion for trucks. To let them end their life in this manor.
Ford CL 9000 had the largest interior cabs back in the day. I love the brochure with the black CLT 9000 that said Built Ford Tough!
I have it in my collection.
I like ford cabovers
Hi
i just fond your chanal and its great i whould love to restore all off the but your to fare away im in new york cost to much to ship hope you find someone to save them
amazing most of the truck need to send to the scrap yard
👍😁👍
Are you buying the blue ford cab over for the frame for kenny?
I was thinking about it but being half buried it might be to far gone
@@mikethetrucknut some times stuff like that being around wood and trees isnt that bad cause the trees and such are drawing the moisture out if the ground
Were the 2 Western Stars spoken for?
Yeah their gone now
Captn petrbit sav da stars & da henry
Where are these located at? I’m needing a couple of parts for a CL 9000. Thanks
