    I'd put all my energy, and money, into the Kenworth. Just my two cents.

    • @psavel274
      @psavel274 3 года назад

      Totally agree, fix the Cummins and the Kenworth and just enjoy it. That freightshaker is kind of a pile. Sure, it's got potential, lots of stuff does, but that doesn't always mean you should buy it. Your Kenworth is a nice truck overall, especially for its age and with relatively not much work you could bring it back to quite a looker. Just my opinion, it's not my truck, and totally up to you in the end.

    @JT-sz7xc 3 года назад +7

    Before you buy it I’d make an agreement with the seller, they invest in a new ECM and plug, see if they can get it running so you can hear how it sounds. If it starts and runs good and you hear no issues, you’ll buy it plus the cost of the ECM and plug. If it doesn’t run, or runs bad or sounds bad you walk away.

    I gotta love your love for the old cabovers Because thats what i drove in late 70s early 80s.I do remember in 1980 i had drove for 14 hours straight and i was in a 79 transtar11 and pulled into reststop cause everything started to look blurry and i was so tired so i crawled over console to get in sleeper and 2 hours later i jumped outa of sleeper and jumped hard on brakes i thought i was still driving.when i realized i was safe it scared me to death.i wanted the 80 long nosed triple black new pete it was like 83 or 4 huge sleeper on it it was a beauty our company bought but to much fighting for it and boss said west coast only back then/ the dummies raised their hands i backed out of meeting slowly as not to disturb anyone.i remeber the guy that got it he was 23 they kept him out for a mnth at a time no thanks.2 days home and he was back out brutal days

    Mike you brought back a lot of old memories with this find, I drove over two million miles in BC,AB and the Yukon in the 70's and 80's all in couple of Freightliner Cabovers just like that. The reason for the steel header for the rad is because its an Artic Cab. They used steel in Canada and Aluminum in the US cabs because of cracking issues. That cab is arguable the toughest Cabover ever built because it was built for Canadian roads!! As i have always said they built Freightliners for north of the border and Freight shackers for the south side.

    Mike you need to find yourself a running, driving cab over as your first project, Hold onto Kenny but keep looking for a really good starter project something that runs, drives, has a decent frame and just needs odds and ends done on it. Kenny seems like a total rebuild at this point.

    my humble opinion is to buy this semi truck because she is in far better condition than kenny.she has some rust issues at her cabin but she has solid frame and far better looking than kenny.her issues are more easy to adress than kenny's.so, my recomendation is to buy this beautyfull lady for peanuts(if they ask more money than 1k...hit the road jack :p ) and to park her until you finish your project with kenny.after a couple of years these trucks are going to worth a fortune no matter their condition!greetings from the sunny athens-greece mate.

    Running and driving, with the stacks in the sleeper I would think it wasn’t running. Those were a nice truck in the day, engine is probably capable of 460 h.p. Biggest issue I see is the water intrusion into the cab. Was a great truck back in the day. Had a 1992 FLD 120, was a great truck. Never had an issue with the engine. Like the colour scheme, needs a lot of body work, but the engine itself was very reliable, they called the N14’s bullet proof, at that age I could see an ecm and plug needing replacement. Good luck with your decision. Too bad your 500 miles away, would love to help you with the engine in Kenny. I agree with your buddy, the cam May last a long time with your application, what C P L is the engine in Kenny.

    It's only got 196,000 KMS driven to church on Sunday. If we were NOT crazy all this rusted Gold would go to the metal crushers, and NOT be hopes and dreams of the future, or lawn orinments.
    Famous last words it ran before it was parked. Say $1200.00 fast and it does not hurt the wallet as much.

    I just spent a year fiddling around with electrical with my N14, great engine for sure , but I kept saying would rather have a mechanical big cam when they get to be 25 to 35 years old , like Kenny ! (Hint) 😀

      why don't you Replace the Injectors and the Fuel pump to those of a Big Cam and you have a Mechanical N14,
      sure is work but will work since the N14 is basically an Electric Big Cam with upgraded Block.

    LOve the Freightshaker. Aluminum you just scuff and weather proof with paint later on. If you don't like the cab you can always pop that one off and get one with a bigger bunk from a wrecker and pop it back on [check out the auction places for crane trucks as they can go pretty cheap and you can wheel the cabby's outside to unhinge and lift off and on with a crane truck [or eventually get a gantry hoist on wheels like the salvage yards all have that peeps use to grab motors on pick and pull days at the yards]. You can wheel the Cabby's back inside of your shop for engine work if you're going to in frame Kenny without having to worry about roof clearance issues]. Definitely keep Kenny :-) Both trucks are works of modern, industrial Art :-)) Maybe your Cummins tech friend could help you with the in frame on Kenny [Bearing kits aren't too expensive]. What did he say about Kenny's Cam? Can you replace the one lobe? There's in frame videos out there for sure. :-)) Anyway, Kenny is a ROCK START Mike! Keep him alive and give him the love bud! Makes for fantastic videos! Patching holes in aluminum with a tig welder shouldn't be hard after you clear all that nonsense off the roof of the Freightshaker. Be cool if you could find the old Canadian "White Freightliner" emblem ;-) Or will that be an older one for later down the road? :-)) Got me going at any rate! NOICE!!

    Mike, if the price is cheaper than cheap, I'd say buy it. Get it running then possibly move it on to someone else that's looking for a Freightliner. Keep Kenny is the message from your fans. If you need another Cabover, find a runner that you can enjoy driving until Kenny is finished. Mike from Lancashire 🇬🇧.

    Get the Freightliner to keep Kenny company. The interior of the Freightliner will clean up and once the ECU is sourced and fitted you may be able to use it regularly. Possibly even use it to take Kenny for any work he needs if you can also find a low loader semi trailer. One of the trailers next to the Freightliner would suit Kenny.
    With Kenny maybe concentrate on fixing the Cummins and getting him road legal. Then you can drive him to where he needs to go for any further work (sandblasting the frame, extending his frame, fitting a fifth wheel etc).
    Peterbilt cabover next please.

    Buy it ! You have more to work with than Kenny. I used to drive Freight-shakers in the 90’s. And early 00’s and I loved them, 2007 I got a new Kenworth W900 and I wanted my Freight shakers back, my guess is most these guys commenting have not ever driven a truck or the old school Freightliners, which were great trucks.

    Too many unknowns on this one. That mold may be indicative of all sorts of problems with the cab. No matter what you 'think' about the engines condition, without it running, you can't 'know'. There are still plenty of old cabovers around and I'm sure if you want another, they'll surface soon enough.

    Loving your channel. If the price is right, why not buy the Freightliner. You’ll be able to double the content of your channel with two different trucks and gain a wealth of knowledge in the long run. Plus I have a soft spot for Freightliners. I drive a FL112 with a sleeper cab here in Australia. Has a Detroit 60 series in it. It’s quite loud, rough and mildly uncomfortable but I love it.

Then running not issue, the bubbles in paint are where the surface wasn't clean when painted and they make a primer that will seal out corrosion places. Good luck like your channel.

    Not a bad truck mike but you can find a better one that's running and in better shape..a double bunk raised roof model like a 93 or 95 year

    That's a nice Fruitliner. Yeah, it shows it's age and use, plus living in a damp environment. But the bones are there and it is a cool end of an era vehicle.
    If you have the room to store it, and your wife is cool with it, buy it and set aside until Kenny is running properly. Kenny will look out and see the "replacement". It'll make Kenny behave :-)

    I wouldn't spend the time on this Truck STAY on one project at a time. You have a hard time focusing on one project your all over the place. Plus you are a little impatient but We all are you want these Rebuilds done in months when it sometimes takes year's. Most of all if You don't have the money don't do them Good Luck with your Truck

      Yeah I have a few trucks on the go. It's going to be a lot of fun though. I will just have to stop at three... Maybe.

    Buy IT for parts... At the scrapyard where you found the parts you could buy a cab or some parts for cheap... But you could buy a cabover thare again OR keep looking for a better one

    Is it me, or do all Canadians sound like Alex Lifeson of Rush?...... I am a fan of Rush and Canada BTW- one of the few Kentuckians who probably could spot Canada on the map
