That pain of Tsukiko's (that led to Maromi being run over) was from a period cramp, from her first period. So there's the added paranoia of her body changing, this entire new aspect of life coming to pass, and her first time dealing with that indirectly resulted in Maromi dying, piling on even more anxiety and fear and paranoia.

@@principleshipcoleoid8095 Exactly, that's the tragedy of it. She reacted normally to this crazy thing happening to her, and it just so happened to result in her dog's death. She carried the guilt of that for so long, and it wasn't her fault.

@@RabidDogma It was an accident obviously but It was indirectly still her fault her dog died, i think you need to analyze it more because the whole point of her realization was that she needed to accept responsibility for what happened and that she messed up and it doesn't excuse the fact she created a lie to escape from her own failings and caused the world to believe in that fantasy, she's incidentally responsible for Lil Slugger existing in the first place.

I've seen this suggested to your guys a lot and was really happy when you decided to watch it. I haven't seen this show in years, so it was fun to relive this crazy ride with you guys. This show is definitely something stands out in your mind. Many things are left up to interpretation, so you can't know what's literal, symbolic, as well of how much of this is realistic or fantasy. I don't think you guys should have necessarily dismissed the notion that there was anything supernatural going on though. It's still a possibility, but we have no idea. Nothing's clear. The fact that all those Myrumi balloons disappeared at once does lend itself as evidence that there are at least a little bit of supernatural occurrences going on here. Then there is of course the final episode with the black goo going everywhere. All the characters did seem to be reacting to it, specifically ,and there was clearly some sort of mass destruction going on, however we can't know for sure. It still could have been something else that coincidentally caused the destruction at the same time. When I first watched this, I did actually think that maybe some sort of bomb went off since they referenced it in the opening, but that could just be a call back to WW2. Akari even mentioned how it looked just like after the war, which acts of evidence for either one. Anyway regardless, it was enjoyable going on this crazy rollercoaster with you guys. Maybe you could watch more open to interpretation show in the future? I hope people in your inner show suggesting circle have recommended Haibane Renmei. It is something really special. It's an open to interpretation kind of thing, but it's not trippy like this one. I would love to see you guys react to Haibane Renmei at some point.

Oh god... Just watched the first episode of Plastic Memories, been on my watch list forever. This is exactly the type of emotional nonsense that will utterly destroy me. What kind of monster pitched an idea for a show based solely around watching people be forced to give up a "rent-a-loved one"? It's like losing a pet but 100x worse. What a fucked up service.

This anime is so hard to talk about honesly.
Sometime, the use of metaphor makes sense and it is clear.
Sometimes it does not make any sense and you don't know what is fake, real, metaphor, imagination or just there for the sake of the plot.
I enjoyed some episodes but at the end it left me disappointed because there were so many questions left unanswered.
A never-ending cycle of good and BS stories.

Satoshi Kon was already an established artist when he did paranoia Agent, but that#s basically the show that made him mainstream as far as the "non japanese market" was concerned.
As a last remark, if you like creepy games, there's a small one called "Yomawari" that is basically the story of young Tsukiko losing her dog but being too young to understand and then things happen and it's a kid strolling in town at night, and it's super creepy. About 4 to 5 hours if you go straight to the solution, but about 7 to 10 hours tops anyway.

What the fuck was this show even lol. I think the show was meant to confuse you, that was my experience anyway - I looked up what the hell did it all meant, the best explanation was history repeating itself, in my opinion. (edit: myanimelist.net/reviews.php?id=231139 actually, this review is a great interpretation, so I'll stick with this one).
Anyway! Its just that when you guys have high expectations for a show in regards to symbolism etc, you give off a different vibe in your discussion, or do I just not get it?
I discovered this when it started raining during the typhoon episode - where Taeko was - and all you could say was "Woooow incredible, just as she was about to cry it's raining" (well almost every consumable media does this). Or the double yolk scene "*genius.*" What was genius? Explain? They looked like the old guys eyes? "Woah, Wooahh, yeah becau- yeah look! Wow."
Compare this to your reactions to Berserk, great discussion on things I will miss, because you guys are great at deconstructing anime, better than I can ever do. However, unless I don't understand myself, why are so many scenes so compelling, why do they get so much shock because Satoshi did them?
I understand theory crafting but in some cases you end up like the gossiping ladies one upping each other in stories. Just an observation, take it as you wish. Of course I will still support you both because I love your work, but it's a bit hit or miss with me.

THANK YOU! I have zero interest in it because it's basically the polar opposite of Paranoia Agent, in that NOTHING in that show is earned! There's no reason for the situations to be like that, there's no reason for these things to be this way, no reasons given, no TINY bit of world building that could even start to explain it. It is Maniwa: the whole point of that ending with him and the monolog he gives is in that while *this* story seems to have ended, paranoia itself never truly ends and will likely come back again in some other shape or form to spread among humanity. It simply evolves and changes based on circumstances, such as Maniwa here now having become someone aged by experience from what has already come before.
