Thank you so much for sharing this. I feel so demotivated when people say you can't learn figure skating after puberty. You have to start at 4 or 7. This makes me think that I still have a chance. Thanks💜

I started my axel in late 2019. I landed it in 2020. Lost it, and this went on till 2022. In 2022 I woke up on day landed them all consistently. Lost it the week after, and got it back the week after that. To this day they are still consistent and landed nicely. My axel journey took me 3 years. I still don’t hold my entrance as long as I could. That’s why I love figure skating. There’s always something to work towards, even when something (my axel) seems perfect, there’s always a way to improve it. I love seeing these journey videos. Great job! (Lol I’m working on my double salchow. I can’t land backwards on one foot up on my toe pick :( lol)

I love seeing this! I skated for 10 years when I was young (landed up to double lutz, but that one just once, but I was consistently landing double flips and less difficult jumps) and also took some lessons in my late 20’s and got up to working on the axel again. I’m considering taking lessons again now that I’m back home where I used to skate, and I’m 42 now! It’s never too late to learn how to skate and such a joy. Mostly I just want to get back in shape and want the lessons to make sure I don’t hurt myself. I can still land up to a single slip but I’d be terrified to do a lutz or axel at this point! Keep it up!

So great to see. I started learning to ice skate at 34 years old so I could play hockey. Now that I've been playing hockey for a year I've started freestyling on my hockey skates. It's the greatest hobby. Great exercise, huge skill tree to master, super impressive looking. I was checking out your video because I'm just starting to work on doing an axle in hockey skates. Keep it up.

I am an 11 year old figure skater and I am currently working on my DOUBLE axel lol. I have a tip: jump higher. You are trying to rotate before you even jump and that is causing to much tork and not enough height. You will need about a foot more of height if u want the double axel so keep working! I believe in you!

Congrats, you have courage. I figured skated a lot in my teens through my 30's and became pretty proficient without ever taking lessons, but never learned to jump much because I attended public sessions and at that time it was prohibited to jump since you could hurt other skaters. You are doing good, getting up your courage and practicing on land to strengthen your legs and let you jump higher which will allow you to complete the revolution. Then for a double!!

A couple months i think, but I didn't really practice them or the excerises much. My coach at the time was very demotivating and kept telling me I'd never be able to do it so we didnt have many lessons on it. I switched coaches a couple months after lockdown and landed my axel within a few weeks!
Axels are really scary when you first start them, but after youve fallen enough times on them you forget to be scared 😂 try padding up if you're really scared of hurting yourself!Good luck!

Padding always helps! I have knee problems so I was always scared of falling and hurting a knee, but after I bought some pads I was a lot more confident! I would also say to not just go for the jump straight away (this was my mistake!). Definitely build up jumps like the Axel in parts - i.e. waltz-backspin, bell jumps etc. Not only does it help with technique but it helps mentally too!

What do you think is the brand and model of skate that can make an artistic axel? I live in Turkey and everything has a very high price here! That's why it's hard to buy here, but I have a medium budget. Which skate do you think can do moves like axels?

I landed my axel in edea chorus boots, but I'm not sure on other brands as I've only worn edeas! Your best bet is to find a fitter that can tell you the best boot for you as it will depend on your foot shape/age/skill etc!
