[EN] Engine timing chain drive inspection and replacement

Fast running engines, which are used in passenger cars and light commercial vehicles commonly, use a metal timing chain, which is located within the engine and lubricated by the engine oil. This connects the crankshaft to the camshaft, which in turn controls the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves. Over extended periods of continuous use, the chain drive gradually elongates. This can eventually lead to camshaft and crankshaft synchronisation issues, disrupting the accurate control of the intake and exhaust valve timing, leading to engine inefficiency, increased emission levels and possible failure. But don't change the crankshaft sprocket? I gonna change in my polo 1.2 tsi 2014 and I asked in a Volkswagen car agency and they told me that's no necessary it's right?

If you change timing chain then you need to replace all parts, including crankshaft sprocket and oil pump sprocket with oil pump chain even if they tell you that there is no need. Because sooner rather than later you'll end up with premature chain wear and oil pump chain skipping on cold start, starving the engine of oil and destroying the crankshaft sprocket. Better afraid than sorry with this engine. Assuming you have 1.2 CBZA, CBZB engine.
