Spires of Arak - Music & Ambience - World of Warcraft

- For travelers limited to two legs, Arak is an autumnal, swampy forest, framed in crooked trees that rest chin-level with giants. High above the trees towers a landscape rarely seen by outsiders: impossibly tall rock spires too steep to scale. The arakkoa gaze out from these treacherous perches, watching their land like incarnate gods... and paying homage to the blessed sun by burning the “low races” alive.

I love the Arakkoa aesthetics. I wish they were a playable race.
I used to hate the Spires at first, really grew to love it though! One of my favourite zones now!
Say what you want about Warlords, but the music was amazing.
The dungeons and raids were amazing too. Really, now that I think about it, the thing that held WoD back the most was the stupid garrison feature that always kept on rearing its ugly head in every single zone questline.
@@snazzyjovialwyrm3314 What held it back was that Blizzard scrapped half the content and introduced half-assed crap into it...they literally scrapped half the intended story and we got cheated out by an at least two zones...Farahlon (Netherstorm in Outland) for example...
@@joekerr9197 Would have loved to see Farahlon before it became Netherstorm.

always is
This area really gives me a Dark Crystal vibe.
That is because the Arakkoa were inspired by the Skeksis. On top of that their architecture also takes inspiration from Brian Froud's work, who also worked on The Dark Crystal film.
The more I look into WoW music, the more and more blown away by the sheer amount of amazing pieces there are. Even after several years, I'm still finding new masterpieces like these. It makes me wonder how many hundreds of hours of music this game has in total...
I'm kind of annoyed that I can't find 99% of the WoW soundtracks I want on Spotify and other music platforms, though.
Apple Music has the OST of each expansion so far
@@mr.maguire1255 The OST's lack a lot of music, they range from 1-2 hours of music, while the expansions themselves usually have over 10 times that amount.
Love that Tchaikovsky quote
26:51 amazing music
I love, love, love that 5/4 theme. Sinister and spooky and, like most great pieces in that time, feels like going places.
@Bones Sama At what point does the track play in the video? I'm not musically savvy enough to understand the time signatures of songs.
19:09 - Traversing the Spires B has a 7/4 beat and it's so cool!
7:20 im here for it
Getting huge nutcracker vibes from this. I think they drew heavily on that for inspiration for the arakkoa
Yes! My favorite zone from WoD! Thanks man, you’re the best!
From 3:45 and on, looks like that bird in the back is directing the orchestra
I actually loved this expansion before the docks came out. IDC what people say, I made so many good memories there.
They're clearly using a motif from Arabian Dance by Tchaikovsky. ruclips.net/video/-sEgjXxjxIw/видео.html
Blizz composers have done this before, like the Rite of Spring motif in Deathwing's theme. I love the references.
@Ivy Wow, thank you for providing the insight, reference, and link! This is a beautiful correlation.
@@Rynies I did hear in xaxas mars by holst, maybe that was a confusion?
They also used Chopin's Nocturne 27 for one of the songs that plays in Hellfire Peninsula back in TBC
Memories...the stories there was so amazing...
Arak ❤️
Zone I least expected to like but ended up loving the most
toss up between shadowmoon and spires for me
Yeees, I was looking forward to this. Thank you!!!!
This is beautiful, after watching this video I'm seriously considering returning to the game, just to explore and enjoy the ambient a bit =)
That is exactly what I do. Explore older expacs and zones. Truly beautiful places.
I loved this place back in WoD
Thanks for making these. Love this zone. Reshad is such a great character, wonderfully voiced by the indomitable Frank Wlker. Wish Blizzard would make Arakkoa playable...
def best zone in WoD imo
waiting for Rukhmar to spawn
Lovelp
This is a RUclips comment for the "Almighty Algorithm". It contains words like: terrific, outstanding, incredible and brilliant! to satiate the Algorithm's need and insane hunger for engagement.
Haha XD
24:23 why am i crying
Ah yes, the home of one of the best races in all of WoW.
enjoyed the leveling experience from wod
This zone was awesome and it´s music the best of WoD
You are best!
Very underrated zone and story here.
@33:33 this reminds me of a scene in the Dark Crystal
Composer has a solid grounding in classical music. Have you ever heard Sheherazade by Rimsky-Korsokof?
This xpac could've been the best one, damn you Blizzard.

Nasty bird...
Unintentionally the most depressing music of Warlords of Draenor
Sorry but I always come back only for 8:09 and 45:55
Wod had so much potential. But at least Legion was really good. They sacrificed wod to make legion good.
I'd rather it was the opposite. But Legion had its moments, and apparently many many people liked it quite a lot as a whole.
Time travel is always messy.
Spire of Iraq, so beautiful
Toad Milker hah, that’s exactly what I think every time I hear it out loud
Ah so it's not just me that calls it spires of iraq lol.
I love this zone, although not so much the levelling/questing, but it's rly well made imo, they took the concept of a desert and viewed it through loads of different lenses.
Iraq looks good tho ngl 👀
@@jordanweir7187 Not all of it is a desert, though. Most of the region is dominated by sickly plains and treatcherous forests.
@@snazzyjovialwyrm3314 thats mostly what I meant by saying that they viewed a desert through different lenses, the forests are very dry looking, the mountains aren't covered in snow, the plain areas look rly desert-like to me
There is one song that I cannot find for the life of me, and I think it’s the best in the game.
It plays in the spires of arak when you go to the fungal area in the south sea.
Does anyone know the name of this track?
It most likely is "Malevolent Mystique" or "Shakedown".
Before playing I'd figured I'd hate this zone. It's my favourite.
Though Nagrand would be my favourite WoD zone, but that ome fell completely flat for me.
Why did you expect to hate it?
who is the author?

Ashamed to admit I’ve never played this I just use the soundtracks to read game of thrones…
I'm gonna take my Murloc to the old town roads....gonna RIIIIIDDEEEEE till' I can't no mo!!!!
WoD has some really interesting zones and feels that were let down by the expansion as a whole. Being a space goat lover the fact the fact that WoD was such a dumpster fire makes me sad.
