Even if he is not Sonic, the whole thing is still pretty tragic. Because as far as HE is aware, he is Sonic. He is sure of it. But everyone else says he isn't the person his memories tell him he is
as Rouge said to Shadow "Even your memories might not be real" and shadow doesn't care he still is who he is, I think Metal sonic could have false memory syndrome though how many times could he copy data before getting conflicts
"A shadow of myself just who am I? ... Trapped in this machine, Don't know how long we waited, as the Eggman watches." Team Dark's theme - This Machine
@@saulothebebop2581 which he is not, for two reasons, 1: why would Eggman lock away one shadow android separate from the rest and 2: since the idw comics follow the games cannon and since the Metal virus was only able to infect organic materiel and shadow did get infected then he is not a android.
Sonic: *On his way to stop eggman* Metal: stop!.... please Sonic: What do you want! Metal: *in a choked voice* You have to listen to me.........for our sake. Sonic: Our? What are you talking about? Metal: On this very day you will lose and be robotisized and everyone you know and love will die at your hands. Sonic: Wait...how do you know all of this? Metal: *pauses* Because I've lived through it.
Then this would cover alot of plot holes fleetway sonic wanting to destroy everything why sonic got fed up tired of his life constantly in danger. trying to save everybody being over stressed via chaos emeralds with no rings to balance him along with it. Got fed up he rather destroy everyone includeing himself instead of robotnick.takeing him out as well. Then in sonic cd the good and bad feature if he does not save the feature. Robotnic will catch him and turn him into metal makeing sonic his slave.then metal sonic haveing to put monkey writches at him self before robotnic turned him into metal. So that way metal is trying to save sonic have him defeat his own self so that wont happen to him. In reality metal is trying to save him self with out trying to interfeare with the feature.
I also realised towards the end how the little animals were hanging around Metal like it was nothing till he saw Sonic & let out that pulse of energy. A bit odd how the animals weren't immediately afraid of him almost like they probably would be if he was an ordinary bot
Maybe it is because Metal Sonic has the same personality as Sonic and that he cares for the animals and the wildlife. However I don’t know why Metal Sonic would work with someone who wants to do the opposite. Is that why he rebelled in Sonic Heroes? Maybe after Sonic Heroes, Eggman changed his programming to make that not happen again. Eggman can do that with sentient robots as he does that with Heavy King in the Classic Sonic 30th anniversary comic. As for why Metal Sonic went back to being his usual self when Sonic arrived, Metal Sonic sees him as another fake that he has to take care of.
Theory: Sonic gets roboticized when you get a Game Over, in every classic game up to CD. With basically nobody stopping him, Robotnik rules over the world.
This would make sense; Imagine how Eggman felt when he found out that the Bad Future Eggman managed to roboticize the Bad Future Sonic; Knowing he caught one Sonic in another timeline, that would've encouraged him to try harder to defeat Sonic, which would explain why Eggman keeps trying to make inventions to stop Sonic. He saw a possibility of him winning, so he's constantly creating these machines until he DOES eventually reach that possibility of defeating Sonic.
This theory about Metal Sonic make's me want to tear out so much it'll cause a waterfall. The hero failed to protect what he loved most and ended up becoming a slave to the one who destroyed what he loved most and forced to destroy other things that someone else loves. Then later accepting what he has become and pushed all of the good thoughts away and walked in the only path everyone else saw him as, a monster.
I still believe the reason Metal is so advanced is because Eggman took the knowledge he acquired from building Metal in the Bad Future and built him in modern day. That's the reason Metal was so unruly in Sonic Heroes since his programing was years ahead of his time.
@@gengargamer5657 Well, it's because Eggman sent Metal back in time Terminator style, to capture Sonic but he ended up capturing Amy by mistake and Eggman decided to just roll with the punches and instead used Amy as bait to lure Sonic into his clutches.
Your precisely right. Even Robotnik aka Eggman mentioned & fully explained how Metal Sonic came to be created. It's a interesting theory but it's still entirely false.
Tbh the real Sonic would probably let him hang out if they just talk...but then again you have eggman ai programming...which might be over written if tails could get ahold of it.
For those who still don’t get what a non-linear timeline is, it’s basically: every time something happens it’s creates a parallel universe for each outcome that didn’t happen in this universe.
Its is possible that there are two Metal Sonics The first is the original. The robotized Sonic from a darker timeline. The second is just a robotic repleka. The second Metal Sonic would be the one in Fighters and Knuckles Chaotix since the original Metal Sonic is still trapped on Little Planet. The reason why I say that there are two Metal Sonics are because in Sonic Rivals 2, Eggman Nega creates Metal Sonic *3.0* If that Metal Sonic is supposed to be the third version, then where's the second? It could be the one from Chaotix and Fighters but was destroyed beyond repair. So Eggman found the original Metal Sonic once Little Planet returned.
Maybe the first one is from Sonic CD and the second one is the one you fight before the final boss from Sonic 2 Or is there a third which is the robotic Sonic Wait no that's just the Sonic CD one
Sonic: "I know who you really are." Metal: "It's about time." Sonic: "Yes, it is. Everything with you is about time, isn't it? The past, the present, the future - you know all of it, right? And you know everything about me! About Knuckles! About Tails. And Sally! You know our strengths. You know our fears. You know how much we love each other. And you know how to use that love against us. All this time we thought that we couldn't stop you because you were one step ahead, but that's not it! You don't just know what's gonna happen to us. You were there. You lived it. You remember... when you were me." *presure hatches on Metal Sonic's face before it finally comes loose, allowing Metal to finally reach up and remove it, revealing the hideously scarred face underneath* Evil Sonic: "Like I told you from the beginning... I am the real Sonic the Hedgehog."
Probably Future Eggman designed the Roboticized Version of Sonic to make him more attuned to Classic Sonic because Modern Eggman encountered Classic Sonic in Generations & Forces so he can pay Worship of his Courage and his honorable sacrifice and for that Eggman gave him a second chance as a Cyborg he became more machine than man twisted and evil.
Going by Archie lore, this actually makes sense. To go further, I think Sonic was not only roboticized, but also weaponized. If you look at his anatomy, he shares a similar design to Mecha Sally. They both have modified limbs with bomb and laser implants. This could explain Silvers bad future since we see a glimpse of both Metal Sonic and Mecha Sally conquering the planet. So even if the Genesis Wave didnt occur, Sonic lost in that timeline where he was roboticized and weaponized then joined Mecha Sally in their destruction.
It makes more sense if this was the real sonic robotisized after all and we know alternate universes and timelines exist in the Archie sonic universe so there’s a possibility the games are a possible universe
That was just Eggman's dreams. I think it's more plauseable Shard (The original Metal Sonic in the comics) Is a robotisized Sonic from another dimension
I would totally play a game where Metal Sonic returns from the future, free from Eggman's control, and has to help Sonic/his past self/whatever to defeat the doctor and save him from a fate of being roboticized. That would be a really awesome concept to make a game about.
By the way, when I played SADX, I was curious to see if Metal Sonic can drown too so I went to Twinkle Park and tested it, (felt kinda sorry for the little guy tho..) and was surprised to see that he actually could! Somehow I've thought that he will not share the drowning animation with Sonic. Interesting is they did not even remove the air bubbles! Yes, I'm afraid the developers were just lazy and didn't bother to remove Sonic's animations for Metal (hence why he is enjoying to take a shower in the Casino.. ^^") but I still think it's interesting, especially in relation to this fantastic theory. A robot doesn't need to breathe. But if there's a living being inside it which might still carry the fear of drowning in his mind, even after being roboticized.. it makes sense now. Anyways, I'm thrilled by your theory. :) It's well-thought and became kinda canon to me when playing Sonic games tbh. Poor Metal Sonic....
Quick mention as I found it funny since you brought it up, But in Sonic R, there are air bubbles coming up when Metal is underwater. It could be from anything really, but I thought it was interesting.
I just want a game entirely devoted to the story of Metal Sonic within this sort of context. It doesn't necessarily have to be super dark, because we all know that's only ever done bad things for the games, but it should still have a serious story with dark implications, with light-hearted beats to keep it from being overly edgy.
Maybe instead of plotting his next move. He may be secretly helping. Like, how was Rouge able to know about Sonic being alive in Sonic Forces if someone hadn't tipped her off? If we assume that Sonic was mentally tortured in Forces how is he still smiling and pulling rip off My Little Pony's? It may just be that Metal was helping the whole time. It's not a far fetched idea. He could've comforted Sonic from the shadows using a text to voice translator so that Sonic doesn't recognize him. He could have used that same tactic to talk to Rouge. If the theory is a bust, my whole "Metal helped Team Sonic in Sonic Forces" is still probable. Different motives would occur though. Like how Metal could be jealous about Infinite being 'Eggman's Greatest Creation Yet'. And when Infinite defeats Sonic on his own AND uses a copy of Metal in the progress, Metal would be hurting. So he could sneak onto the carrier that sends Sonic to space and helped from there. This is a probable theory. If anyone can debunk this than I'm all ears.
Well really I️ cant, I️ consider myself a forced expert and since eggman was dumb enough to not kill sonic while he had the chance I️ doubt he would of noticed metal sneaking on the ship believing he was just another copy made by infinite, and considering his voice changed he could easily change his voice to make characters believe he isn’t who he really is, and it would make sense why metal wouldn’t take any proper action, in fact it could even explain how tails fixed omega he literally said he couldn’t fix him but he appeared near the end, meaning that somebody might of given him info on how to fix him, somebody who has blueprints of the E series models somebody like metal sonic, the only thing I️ can really use to disprove this is the fact we never hear the person giving info to rouges voice but that’s really the only thing I️ can come up with and it’s not even a good argument
@@idontknowwhattoputhere7017 He was finished when Eggman already lost so I think he was being upgraded midway thru Sonic Forces as backup plan since the rebellion was starting to gain back territory, because why Eggman wouldn't upgrade him much earlier? So Metal Sonic giving info at the start of the game could be still plausible
Maybe Eggman found a way to keep Metal Sonic under his control right before Sonic escaped the Death Egg, hence why Metal was full Eggman in IDW. Of course, like the video stated, there could be an alternative timeline. Maybe IDW is part of another canon separate from the main timeline.
Oh, here's another idea: Metal did persist after Sonic CD in Chaotix, Fighters, etc. But Sonic Generations sees Classic Sonic fighting Metal again and blowing him up. What if this fight damaged Metal enough that he can't escape Little Planet, changing the timeline so that Sonic 4 happens instead of those other games with Metal in them? Or, maybe Metal from Generations is present day Metal? So two versions of him exist in the time between CD and Generations, but Eggman has to wait at least a year to recover Generations Metal. This could also explain the two different characterisations. The Metal native to that timeline is the mindless automaton and Future Metal is the rebellious one.
It's as he said... "I am the REAL SONIC!" He made things pretty clear in Sonic Heroes. Even after taking control of his own destiny, detaching himself from Doctor Eggman, he still hates, hates, HATES Sonic with a burning passion.
+Rebellious Robot I think that he hates him self because that sonic is free and showing him what he used to be.Also seeing another you doing the things you used to do and everyone liking him instead of you, that would hurt.
If the theory is true I think he hates Sonic because he's the one who got the good future, while Metal Sonic was the one with the bad fate. He's envious.
I don't know about all that other, but the theory he's a future roboticized Sonic does actually make alot of sense. Though It comes off at least with future media and games that he was different from other robots because he could learn and adapt, was designed around Sonic but was programmed with a brain/bio scan of sorts (if we go off the Sonic OVA as being a source). In Heroes and in Shadow, we could see other biological creations the Dr was able to create, so Metal Sonic could be some sort of cyborg leaning more towards the mechanical side of things with some biological components. I suppose if you're able to turn living creatures into machines, you would have to a very advanced understanding of biology as well as the mechanical engineering.
This is further enforced in Sonic Forces when Sonic asks, “Why create a clone of something that already isn’t real?” The reason he has to create a clone is because he didn’t build metal sonic. He must be Sonic roboticized.
This has to be my favourite episode of the series so far. A truly interesting theory that was presented coherently and clearly. Great work on this, man. Keep it up ~
I can imagine a really good long arc across a few games or comics where all this happens and there's a game where metal sonic is the antagonist, then at the very end it's revealed he is future sonic. Next game, after full embracing his metal sonic side, now he has to re-embrace being sonic from the future. The boss at the end is the future eggman that won and together they all defeat him, or so they think, this eggman is more devious than any other, therefore he pulls a trick and we see as everyone gasps the shadow of Sonic impaled on spikes, or dead in a less gruesome way, the its revealed that its the real sonic that has been killed, metal sonic must now redeem himself in this world as their new sonic
The Arrowverse's time remnant concept can be applied to this theory. Time remnants are basically time travelers from erased timelines who are preserved by the Speed Force to avoid fatal time paradoxes. It's possible that Metal is being preserved (by the Chaos Force?) for the same reason. As if Metal's continual existence serves as punishment for losing to Eggman and becoming one of his own enemies. Don't ask me about Sonic 06.
Here is some evidence: there has never been a robot in one of eggman’s test tubes, take infinite, shadow, shadow android, why should metal be the one exception? Boom
Unless shadow is really sonic or a clone sonic. Before sonic turned blue.and silver is related to sonic via amy there the only hedgehogs besides his brothers and sister. What hedgehog did shadow come from? Is the main question. Sonic was not always blue. That was a accident sonic was a regular Brown cinnomon hedgehog (which exist in real life). Him and ivo kintobor were friends. Spelled backwards is robotnic which is eggman. Which. A egg and chaos emarld and soada tured him evil. Because the chaos emarlds had negative energy already in them. Sonic got his speed from egg man .could it be robotnic blames sonic for turning him evil. He is obssessed with sonic because he has no one and his only real friend was sonic and trying to get him back.
I think it might make a lot of sense! It was hinted at in various Sonic titles within the mainstream Sonic canon. His rebellious streak, the events of Heroes and Episode Metal, it's all hinting at a deeper story behind Metal Sonic. Imagine if Sega confirmed that!
Sonic: We know who you are. Metal Sonic: IT'S ABOUT TIME, ISN'T IT. Shadow: The reason why you want to be like Sonic for years, the reason why you rebelled against Eggman. Silver: The reason why you know everything about me, Shadow, everything about Sonic, Tails Knuckles and Amy, everything about our feelings, our pasts. Sonic: Why you know everything about me, my powers, my weaknesses and why you were always ahead of us. Shadow: Everything we been through, all the fights we have fought, all the tragedies. Silver: You were there, you lived through them all along with us. Sonic: When you... were me! Metal Sonic: (Takes off his helmet and removes his armor, showing horrific scars and burns all over his body.) Metal Sonic: Just like I told you all from the beginning of our race Sonic.... Evil Sonic: I AM THE TRUE SONIC... OF PAST AND FUTURE!
Brilliant theory.. It makes so much sense that it just has to be true.. I initially thought Metal Sonic to be a clone of sonic, in the sense that at some point the original sonics mind was copied and metal was made from it.. but seeing as time travel is a factor in the sonic universe this makes more sense..
Fitting the other Games Metal Sonic has appeared in in the timeline is possible. Dr. Robotnik had lost the original version of Metal Sonic, so he attempted build another using the knowledge he gained from the first version of Metal Sonic. Robotnik almost succeeded in Knuckles Chaotix, but he failed their too. So Robotnik decided to go back and find his original version as time wen't by which is why he comes back as a "Modern" character in Sonic 4 Episode 2. In the past Metal Sonic has clearly died and him having the same knowledge past down from version to version doesn't make sense, unless you trying to say the Metal Sonic has memory chip which also doesn't make sense because if he did, he would have the ability to talk and use attacks from the past. Anyways, that was my thought and I think it makes sense time wise.
This is still my favorite video of yours, even more than 3 years after I first watched this, and the rest of your theory related content in that time. Even if it’s not canon/been debunked, I love this theory so much simply because I think the concept is vastly more interesting. It not only gives Metal’s character more depth and complexity, but it allows me to appreciate him more as a character, see him in a whole new light, if you will. I see him now as more than another of Eggman’s robots, but rather, a trapped, tortured soul, forced to watch as… well, I think you put it best in the video, so no need to reiterate anything there. I never played any of the games that feature this “progression” of Metal Sonic, if you will, as he goes through these stages of accepting himself for who he is, so I never gave much thought to him, other than “oh, right, Metal Sonic is a thing” whenever he would turn up. And for that, Scourge, I thank you. Keep doing what you’re doing, your latest “What If?” videos are quite fun to watch and think about, but you do you m8, whatever it is you decide to speculate about next, I’ll be looking forward to it.
I like this theory a lot, it would make a massive amount of sense. However there are other ways of explaining some of the things you brought up, for example the magical sphere he absorbed seems to be the thing that gave him a personality and free will which lets him ignore Eggman. The reason for this might be that the magical sphere granted him a soul which would allow him to control the Chaos Emeralds as well as giving him his new personality/free will. I would really love for it to be canon that he is a robotized Sonic from another timeline, maybe one day we might see this proven in a game. I would really like to see him in Project Sonic 2017
The theory is false: 1- Sonic would never transform into Metal Madness-Metal Overlord, he says: "did you really think you could defeat me by transforming yourself into a monster?" 2-Sega confirmed the theory? NO.
Even if this was something that was once planned; this very could have easily been scrapped with the change of writers and story tone. Not to mention all the retcons that have taken place in the series in general.
So if sonic is roboticized and remember sonic CD when sonic first met metal (like the video said) then if metal is sonic that means it would be the last sonic game the game before sonic CD might of had a story that sonic failed and at that time he became metal sonic and the past sonic came...to save the world so that does mean that metal is the real hedgehog (like the video said)
If Sonic Generations is Cannon, then the actual future after Sonic CD Is the bad future. Wich leads to me thinking that the good ending (Presumably after the end of the game) Sonic was actually roboticized.
Shirley O'kelly maybe is the one from knuckles chaotix, sonic the fighters and the other sonic game in which metal Sonic appeared before generations and sonic 4
@@ironcloud3463 Sonic doesn't really do well with continuity. Sonic questions if that's Metal Sonic in Sonic Heroes, despite him all ready encountering him in Sonic CD.
I believe that Metal is still a future Sonic, but one that Eggman actually captured with his smart planning(like with SA2) and changed him to do Eggmans bidding. He used the power of the Time Stones to robotizise the Sonic from the future over and over and over again! Or maybe the one seen in Chaotix and Fighters was just a replica that Eggman buil without using a Sonic from the future....or those aren't cannon...or Sonic Team don't know how to timeline....
This is true the metal sonic he talks about in this video left on the island is the original the pen another metal sonic is built 2.0 than in the future eggman’s grandson egg man nega built metal sonic 3.0 metal 2.0 and 3.0 are destroyed and the original metal sonic is the one you fight in sonic forces
The old cartoon of sonic from Adventures of sonic the hedgehog actually had robots that can understand human emotions and feelings (mainly scratch and grounder). Eggman even did the same with the two knuckle-headed bots he made in Sonic X (can't remember their names).
The thing is, if sonic failed to stop eggman and died. How would he die? It makes no sense. If metal sonic already existed and sonic got beaten by him and became metal sonic. It makes no sense
Simple. Dr. Eggman had a better plan that nearly did work and ultimately beat sonic. The doctor decided it was too close a shave and would believe that his new robot would be more useful in the past. He was still realativly new at time travel and simply sent holograms that contained the life data of robotizied sonic into the far past that His past self would find thus never actually cone up with his original plan to stop sonic. So here’s where I believe it’s a different story. The past never actually caught sonic but the original timeline did and actually managed to get all of his info so the metal sonic we know is actually a full robot but the original timeline is a much darker story for sonic as he ultimately failed, but I believe that Eggman still doesn’t win as one particular thing about sonic Cd is that you can play as tails. Tails realizing something is wrong and goes through the same stuff as sonic did but this time the future Eggman’s plans mirror the the events that we see in sonic’s play through. Tails manages to scrape by and defeat his former ally in the race and stop Eggman. But Time has already been affected by messing with the timeline eggman basically created the flashpoint paradox that we now know as the official timeline.
Well it’s quite simple, the timeline starts with eggman killing sonic and turning sonic into metal sonic, how he killed him is simple he used the laser on his machine since there was no metal sonic to race, and what happened next is because of metal sonic being in the past but losing to sonic the first time the timelines are split up now there is 2 one where sonic lost and became metal sonic the one metal originated from and the one where sonic beats eggman which is the main timeline
The sonic timeline being non linear explains how Silver can exist when his future is changed, and speaking of Silver, he finally got a good future after the zombot arc in the comics

One of the few things that really backs this up is the second cartoon where his uncle gets roboticized. The only problem is that Chuck had no control over his own actions no matter what he tried to do. While it is true that Metal got a different gem/jewel and gain free will, Sonic 4 was not completed and was disregarded once Mania was released, making it a questionable thing in terms of it being part of the timeline or just part of it's own separate & small universe.

How did he change back? I thought when u get roboticized u get change into a robot no more fresh & blood so how did he get his body back does eggman gets evil and rip out guts and bodyparts and replace them with robot parts or it just a beam kind of thing? (sorry dont read the comics)
The process of robotization(which is impossible BTW in reality) consists of being shot by a beam that turns everything into robotics(once again makes no logical sense)no trace of any organic material left and you're a mindless slave. There is also De-Robotization which reverses the effects(this is how Sonic changed back)unfortunately if you end up say losing your original parts when you became a robot and get new parts then it doesn't work and you're doomed to be a robot forever. Yeah I really hate robotization it's just horrible, heartless, cruel and endless agony. I prefer Eggman just taking animals and sticking them inside robots to use as power cores. Comic Eggman can go get robotized himself and burn in hell!
Awesome theory. Raised a lot of points I had never considered before. However, the one hole I do find myself stuck in is that Mecha Sonic in Sonic 3&K uses the chaos energy from the master emerald to transform into Super Mecha Sonic. As we know he isn't Metal Sonic and is purely mechanical, doesn't that mean beings of non-organic origin can harness chaos energy?
Hahahaha funny enough I usually check to see if anyone else had made that point, the one time I don't then this xD To be honest, your theory works totally fine without the chaos energy part. I was sold when you highlighted that you fight Metal in the bad future.
Aren't Master Emeralds Can Be A Battery Or A Source Of Power Like The Ark Takes Energy From The Master Emerald And The Chaos Emerald To Power Up The Eclipse Canon AND Aswell Summoning The Biolizard As Seem As My Theory Is A Childish Or Silly But I Think That Everything Can Harness The Power Of The Master Emerald
Y'know, the more I think about this, the more it makes sense. It does seem illogical for Eggman to not implement Sonic's speed into his other robots if he can do that to Metal Sonic
My answer to all those never-ending "Mecha Sonic" comments, here you go: x'D 1.) Mecha Sonic's transformation does not qualify as a "super form", it requires no rings, he drops the form every 10 - 15 seconds and requires recharging, something more akin to a battery, and moreover; Knuckles SURVIVED against it. Highly unlikely if it was truly "super". 2.) The Master Emerald can NOT incite super-transformation in the game-canon. Period. 3.) Mecha Sonic has since appeared side-by-side Silver Sonic & Metal Sonic in the Lego Dimensions Sonic expansion-pack, and during the entirety of his appearance in that game, he does NOT "transform". It was one of the most memorable things in S3&K and it was purposefully left out of Lego Dimensions.. Leading me to believe that Sega consider his "transformation" about as non-canon as Hyper Sonic. lmao 4.) This is a nitpick but.. this so-called "Super Mecha Sonic" isn't even tinted yellow/gold tbh, ya know like most super forms?.. idk why people think it is. It's more orange and red - like superheated metal. That is all.
Personally don't think that is the case. Robotization wasn't ever a thing outside American timeline what is not canon and modern games even joke about it several times. Only one who could do something like that would be Eggman Nega but he never was really same as Julian Robotnik from Sat Am. For my final prove that is not the case is Uncle Chuck from Sat Am who still look mostly like Hedgehog so far from Metal Sonic design, and there is no reason why Robotized Sonic would look particularly different. For my Mecha Sonic is clearly a Gizoid (it is clearly too advanced for its times) altered to poses Sonic skills. There was some proces of skaning Sonic used, but he clearly is not really a Sonic himself. Oh yes.. and there is also completely separate Metal Sonic 3.0 from Rivals 2, created by by Eggman Nega so.. here is most likely the source (that he wasn't Eggman creation is fact confirmed in Sonic 4 so that also is not point of debate).
@The Sega Scourge - 【The Sonic Theorist】 Wait.. is it not obvious for some people that he basically drain energy from Master Emerald leading to overcharge? Other thing is that Hyper Sonic don't need to be non-canon (I would need a source if that is the case). To put it simply, as Master Emerald isn't particularly handy its usefulness if extremely limited even if it is a thing.
hyper sonic is kinda canon now, the super emeralds make an appearance in sonic mania's knuckles playthrough, and mania is canon due to the ending leading up to forces.
Just a fun fact regarding this theory, in the comic special Mecha Madness the sonic there actually did get robotized, becoming Mecha sonic. He lays waste to everyone, and his only opponent to come close to his power was a Mecha Knuckles. Quite interesting to see this theory already used in sonic comics 😏
Gemerl and Shadow aren’t anthropomorphic animals, but they have feelings. Gemerl now protects Cream and Vanilla and Shadow is basically a living thing, as you established, not a heartless alien like Black Doom.
Hey dude, great theory. This question always popped into my mind about Neo in Sonic Heroes. How did Metal Sonic change into Neo? This was never really explained.
my thoughts: there are ways a robotiscized being can become organic again. there are more metal sonics. there is silver sonic and captain metal. I think the reason eggman (or robotnik for you nostolgia folks) does not apply the same tech to his other badniks is as simple as quantity over qaulity. he has more time to build an army of subpar robots then build multiple metal sonics. plus metal has advanced a.i to a point he can break free of eggmans control so maybe eggman does not want to repeat that mistake
I mean it's true S3&K is an alternate timeline where the 8-bit games timeline go further on like it's like this timeline : Sonic 1 8-bit,Sonic 2 8-bit bad ending, Sonic 3 & knuckles , sonic underground. THE MAIN TIMELINE : all games basically METAL's timeline : Sonic 1, Sonic spinball, Sonic 1 8-bit, Sonic CD bad ending
if Sega made a game with this theory in mind there would be a lot of hype, especially if metal was the main character. or maybe you play as the sonic that becomes metal.
Suppose Metal broke free from Eggman’s control at the end of Sonic CD and used the Time Stones to return to the Bad Future timeline. Would he accept his Robian body or would he, possibly with help from his timeline’s Tails, figure out a way to use the Time Stones to rewind his body’s entropic state to how it was prior to his roboticization?
This is a brilliant backstory to my favorite Sonic villain, I hope Metal can one day break free of his shell, and tho I don't think he'll ever shed his metallic body I hope he can I day bring himself back closer to his lost friends, and end his alienation
Honestly, this theory's really good, and way better than I expected. Also I just realizedsomething. In Sonic Forces, Sonic asks why Eggman made copies of Metal Sonic instead of just making more, but this theory explains that. If this theory is true, he can't make more, cause Metal is one of a kind. And since the Metal Sonic's we see in Sonic Forces are fakes, that means Metal is still missing. I hope we get to see him again soon, cause he is my favorite character and all. Still not sure if I subscribe to this theory or not though. There are other ways of explaining away Metal Sonic. As we see in the Sonic the Hedgehog OVA, Metal Sonic was created by copying Sonic's own mind into a machine, and maybe that was because Sonic's mind is the only thing that's able to process the high speeds that Metal Sonic's external hardware is capable of achieving, and the reason he doesn't use the same technology in other Badniks is because their processors just can't keep up, or something alon those lines. Still a really cool theory, and it makes sense and doesn't have any major holes.
Yes he actually does say that. But I think actually living that purpose would be meaningless. Because in the end for some reason Sonic always wins.because we never actually get an alternate ending if Sonic loses the final boss fight. And realizing robotization is a thing in the main games I don't know why eggman did not roboticized any of Sonic's friends while he had them captive. Sonic could have easily been overwhelmed by the fact that his friends are no longer on his side.
@Matthew Kuhn I think he only says that because he was so obsessed with fulfilling his purpose that he thinks of himself as Sonic. He was even afraid of being inferior. His ONLY goal not realized would dive Metal into Madness.
I've loved this theory for years, however, I think there's one hole in it: Eggman. See, present day Eggman seems to still think that HE created Metal, but if this theory was canon, then that wouldn't make sense. Now, maybe you could say that future Eggman programmed Metal to erase/alter his past self's memories, but then that begs the question of "Why?" I don't see any reason why future Eggman would do that, so that again begs the question of why present Eggman still acts like he outright BUILT Metal. I still love the theory, though. Now, I know this is an old video, so I hardly expect a response, but if you have any counterarguments, I'd love to hear them.
Even if he is not Sonic, the whole thing is still pretty tragic. Because as far as HE is aware, he is Sonic. He is sure of it. But everyone else says he isn't the person his memories tell him he is

I also realised towards the end how the little animals were hanging around Metal like it was nothing till he saw Sonic & let out that pulse of energy.
A bit odd how the animals weren't immediately afraid of him almost like they probably would be if he was an ordinary bot
Probably cuz they thought he was sonic lol
I never noticed that.

This makes sense, because what’s eggman gonna do with a dead body
Hugo ah yes, my favourite meal, deal fried hedgehog
Pay attention. When did I say there were multiple sonics. When.
Look at your comment. I quote "*Gasp* There are multiple sonics?". You asked it like I said there were.
Explain why there would be multiple sonics.
This would make sense;
Imagine how Eggman felt when he found out that the Bad Future Eggman managed to roboticize the Bad Future Sonic; Knowing he caught one Sonic in another timeline, that would've encouraged him to try harder to defeat Sonic, which would explain why Eggman keeps trying to make inventions to stop Sonic.
He saw a possibility of him winning, so he's constantly creating these machines until he DOES eventually reach that possibility of defeating Sonic.
It also makes sense because Eggman's army is often made of roboticized animals and even plants!
This theory about Metal Sonic make's me want to tear out so much it'll cause a waterfall. The hero failed to protect what he loved most and ended up becoming a slave to the one who destroyed what he loved most and forced to destroy other things that someone else loves. "If everyone's a robot, Metal Sonic would no longer be alone would he?" I kinda empathise with Metal on that point.
I still believe the reason Metal is so advanced is because Eggman took the knowledge he acquired from building Metal in the Bad Future and built him in modern day. That's the reason Metal was so unruly in Sonic Heroes since his programing was years ahead of his time.
Thing is though, he was in Collision Chaos Present as well.

Its is possible that there are two Metal Sonics
The first is the original. The robotized Sonic from a darker timeline.
The second is just a robotic repleka.
The second Metal Sonic would be the one in Fighters and Knuckles Chaotix since the original Metal Sonic is still trapped on Little Planet.
The reason why I say that there are two Metal Sonics are because in Sonic Rivals 2, Eggman Nega creates Metal Sonic *3.0*
If that Metal Sonic is supposed to be the third version, then where's the second?
It could be the one from Chaotix and Fighters but was destroyed beyond repair. So Eggman found the original Metal Sonic once Little Planet returned.
That's Good Theory.

last i checked corpses dont age
@@billcipher3180 ha...that's funny
Well Neo Metal Sonic is similar to modern Sonic, tho
Yeah, that is *strange, isn’t it?*
I say hes a Sonic clone that was Roboticized
It makes more sense if this was the real sonic robotisized after all and we know alternate universes and timelines exist in the Archie sonic universe so there’s a possibility the games are a possible universe
Not to mention, once weaponized, a roboticized victim can no longer have the effect reversed
Well Archie has the power to be in control even if he was robitozized
That was just Eggman's dreams. I think it's more plauseable Shard (The original Metal Sonic in the comics) Is a robotisized Sonic from another dimension
If this deep story behind metal is a part of a game where metal is the main villain again,I think it would make a very interesting game
Agreed
I think that would be a good turn around point for the sonic franchise.. just make a game all about sonic vs metal sonic..
I'd be happy to see that.

ZeldaXlover14 well, they were just lazy in general.i mean, there even is a model for him,but they just change the sonicmodel instead
ZeldaXlover14 He's just a skin tho....
Quick mention as I found it funny since you brought it up, But in Sonic R, there are air bubbles coming up when Metal is underwater. It could be from anything really, but I thought it was interesting.
Sonic 4 episode 2 showed him dying when I tried to dash underwater.
Thats mainly just in game animation they most likely didn't bother changing. I wouldn't look too hard on that detail specifically
I just want a game entirely devoted to the story of Metal Sonic within this sort of context. It doesn't necessarily have to be super dark, because we all know that's only ever done bad things for the games, but it should still have a serious story with dark implications, with light-hearted beats to keep it from being overly edgy.
I mean if they do enough sonic movies they will have to introduce metal sooooooooo
@crimsonstormsurge this comment aged like fine wine!
Well In the IDW comics metal was turned into neo metal sonic but maybe your theory might be correct
I guess you’re right
Maybe Eggman found a way to keep Metal Sonic under his control right before Sonic escaped the Death Egg, hence why Metal was full Eggman in IDW. Of course, like the video stated, there could be an alternative timeline. Maybe IDW is part of another canon separate from the main timeline.
Now the line, "I am the ultimate overlord, Metal Sonic! I am the real Sonic!" from Sonic Heroes makes a lot more sense to me.
"I am the REAL SONIC!"
He made things pretty clear in Sonic Heroes. Even after taking control of his own destiny, detaching himself from Doctor Eggman, he still hates, hates, HATES Sonic with a burning passion.
+Lugbzurg huh.......
+Lugbzurg In other words, he hates himself. I mean, this theory does make a possibility that Metal Sonic is from the future.
+Alma Martinez
Exactly what I meant

That would be a very interesting story I'd actually like to here it!

Brilliant theory.. It makes so much sense that it just has to be true..
It would be great! Maybe one day :') And thank you for the support!
Sonic forces is out now and metal sonic is in it :D
Wish granted… in a way. It was a copy of metal. Metal did make a return in the last two-parter of Sonic Boom though, alongside Shadow.
TheUnknownAK me too
The theory is false:
1- Sonic would never transform into Metal Madness-Metal Overlord, he says: "did you really think you could defeat me by transforming yourself into a monster?"
2-Sega confirmed the theory? NO.
Even if this was something that was once planned; this very could have easily been scrapped with the change of writers and story tone.
Not to mention all the retcons that have taken place in the series in general.
So if sonic is roboticized and remember sonic CD when sonic first met metal (like the video said) then if metal is sonic that means it would be the last sonic game the game before sonic CD might of had a story that sonic failed and at that time he became metal sonic and the past sonic came...to save the world so that does mean that metal is the real hedgehog (like the video said)
If this is true, this might be the darkest thing in the series outside of Shadow's backstory
If Sonic Generations is Cannon, then the actual future after Sonic CD Is the bad future. Wich leads to me thinking that the good ending (Presumably after the end of the game) Sonic was actually roboticized.

The thing is, if sonic failed to stop eggman and died. How would he die?
It makes no sense.
If metal sonic already existed and sonic got beaten by him and became metal sonic. It makes no sense
Rei Mephiles, true
Simple. But Time has already been affected by messing with the timeline eggman basically created the flashpoint paradox that we now know as the official timeline.
>non linear time lines
>Eggman is able to defeat Sonic and roboticizes him
>Metal Sonic is born
Boom, you got yourself the Bad Future
Dr. Eggman used the time stones to create a time paradox in the Bad Future.
Even if this isn't true, SEGA should win an award for most low-key tragic character!
The sonic timeline being non linear explains how Silver can exist when his future is changed, and speaking of Silver, he finally got a good future after the zombot arc in the comics
Wow man that was freaking deep as hell! And it was further enhanced by every single image in the screen! Great job your getting a sub buddy!
Thanks man! Glad this theory really resonated with you ✌️
I had a very similar theory! And then i watched this and was like “OHHHHH ANOTHER ONE OF MY CLAN”
I like you
He had a soul? And lost it? How sad :(
Energjack:Your soul will be damned metal! Metal Sonic:I have no soul jack.

Oh wow now I know metal sonic is sonic from a different timeline
everything that you said was wrong
Vermont The Rocket Ship yes metal sonic clone 326-184 your right.
Sonic actually did get roboticized in comics.
Comic Eggman can go get robotized himself and burn in hell!
thanks for the info yea it does seem evil
Kovlix That would require it to exist in the games.
Kovlix Robotization doesn't exist in the games.
Awesome theory. Raised a lot of points I had never considered before. However, the one hole I do find myself stuck in is that Mecha Sonic in Sonic 3&K uses the chaos energy from the master emerald to transform into Super Mecha Sonic. As we know he isn't Metal Sonic and is purely mechanical, doesn't that mean beings of non-organic origin can harness chaos energy?
vine.co/v/iPDLaqdqM3i
Hahahaha funny enough I usually check to see if anyone else had made that point, the one time I don't then this xD
To be honest, your theory works totally fine without the chaos energy part. I was sold when you highlighted that you fight Metal in the bad future.
I usually just use that Vine to answer that question x'D Trust me I get it a lot!
But glad you enjoyed the theory ^^
Very welcome! Keep up the good work, would love to see more!
Aren't Master Emeralds Can Be A Battery Or A Source Of Power Like The Ark Takes Energy From The Master Emerald And The Chaos Emerald To Power Up The Eclipse Canon AND Aswell Summoning The Biolizard
As Seem As My Theory Is A Childish Or Silly
But I Think That Everything Can Harness The Power Of The Master Emerald
I don't know but project sonic 2017 might tell us the origin of metal sonic it's not a sequel and it has modern and classic sonic there
I Hope so, I think Metal Sonic could be a cool Anti-Hero
cool anti hero, or it would be awesome to see him team-up with sonic!!!!!
The Dark Gaia Channel No, how about Shadow Team-up & Then Metal can have a Hatred with Sonic
+XS Baron sounds like sonic rivals 2 to me!!!
anyway only one thing matters, SHADOW AND METAL AS PLAYABLE CHARACTERS
The Dark Gaia Channel I know but I think they should team-up Again, Shadow it most like a villain in the series since Sonic Boom
Y'know, the more I think about this, the more it makes sense. It does seem illogical for Eggman to not implement Sonic's speed into his other robots if he can do that to Metal Sonic
My answer to all those never-ending "Mecha Sonic" comments, here you go: x'D
1.) Mecha Sonic's transformation does not qualify as a "super form", it requires no rings, he drops the form every 10 - 15 seconds and requires recharging, something more akin to a battery, and moreover; Knuckles SURVIVED against it.
Leading me to believe that Sega consider his "transformation" about as non-canon as Hyper Sonic. lmao
4.) This is a nitpick but.. this so-called "Super Mecha Sonic" isn't even tinted yellow/gold tbh, ya know like most super forms?.. idk why people think it is.
Now you've mention this, it does makes more sense.
XDDDDD THE MEAM "STRANGE ISN´T IT"
@The Sega Scourge - 【The Sonic Theorist】
Wait.. is it not obvious for some people that he basically drain energy from Master Emerald leading to overcharge?

Hey dude, great theory. This question always popped into my mind about Neo in Sonic Heroes. How did Metal Sonic change into Neo? This was never really explained.

i hope metal shows up in sonic 2017
you mean Sonic Mania
no in mania and project sonic
Jacob Krueger me to I hope Metal is in it too
me too #hipe or maybe 3 matel sonic's
i just found a guy debuking his theory he used the comics wich are non canon
man, it's been so long since I had seen this, but tbh I do like the concept of it
my thoughts:
there are ways a robotiscized being can become organic again.
there are more metal sonics. there is silver sonic and captain metal.
I mean, look what happened in the comics when metal made a whole bunch of copies of himself.
Mecha Sonic!
Metal sonic is coming back to stop sonic from doing 3D

I prefer 3d games over classic actually

I mean it's true S3&K is an alternate timeline where the 8-bit games timeline go further on like it's like this timeline :
Sonic 1 8-bit,Sonic 2 8-bit bad ending, Sonic 3 & knuckles , sonic underground.
THE MAIN TIMELINE :
all games basically
METAL's timeline :
Sonic 1, Sonic spinball, Sonic 1 8-bit, Sonic CD bad ending
if Sega made a game with this theory in mind there would be a lot of hype, especially if metal was the main character. or maybe you play as the sonic that becomes metal.
I always thought that Eggman "caught" Sonic one time, go some DNA from him and just slapped it onto a robot with some tweaks of course
That happened in the sonic movie

not to fans, but it's officially non-canon,it's considered as an parallel universe

This is the first video of yours I've seen, and already I feel compelled to subscribe. That's gotta be a new record for me or something, congrats.
+BunnyCute Tyler Thank ya pal, your support reaffirms my drive to continue making great theories!
+BunnyCute Tyler SAme :D
+BunnyCute Tyler same
This is a brilliant backstory to my favorite Sonic villain, I hope Metal can one day break free of his shell, and tho I don't think he'll ever shed his metallic body I hope he can I day bring himself back closer to his lost friends, and end his alienation
I kind of feel bad for Metal Sonic now... :,(. And an amazing theory, it makes sense in my head. :3
This makes so much sense, its crazy. I actually believe that metal sonic IS sonic now.
Metal Sonic- I'm the real sonic!
I've seen this theory a lot cus it's so good
"Sonic..... I was CREATED with the only purpose in life to destroy you...."
