It's been a while since I've tried to use ChatGPT to beat a game, but this time I'm not the one controlling the game. By pretending to be a Dungeon Master, I managed to get the AI to basically play Baldur's Gate 3 all by itself. Hopefully it does better than it did with Elden Ring and Dark Souls 2...

So they’re bribing us to play the game😂
@@Sir_Fres yes indeed,u probaly already knew this but,THEY HAVE AN AUTO BATTLE AND 2X SPEED BUTTON FOR FREE ,thats how badthe game is
how do i make a chatgpt robot like you?
RAID is one of the few youtube sponsors I consider unethical. That and nord VPN.
No, allergic to mobile games.
Kathy not being able to decide between finding a cure and doing random side quests is exactly how I played this game the first time 😂
Frrr it’s so confusing cause it feels like the first thing your supposed to do is find the crèche, then you find out it’s not even in the first area
“Thou shalt be distracted by random bullshit every goddamn time. “
the problem is.... the game world IS a game. you HAVE to do side quests to gain xp and strength. if you treat it like the real world, and laser focus on the goal, you will be under levelled in no time and will not survive the encounters on the main quest. Somehow you need to explain this limitation to the chatGPT.
@@pizzamangaming7959 in my current playthrough I tried to go to the creche first, thinking that from a logical story perspective, I would go to the most likely cure first. Unfortunately when I came back to try my second option, Halsin was dead and the grove was sealed off.
So unfortunately it's a choice between doing what is logical for your own survival, and risking turning into a mind flayer in order to help some refugees survive.
Which... is kind of appropriate, now that I think about it.
Well, that settles it. You are AI. Are you the type of AI that's programmed to think you're a real person with a real life?
"She comes upon a twinkish elf man" please tell me this is exactly what you told the AI
The AI responded by saying she wanted to befriend the “twinkish elf”
Lae'zel: "Do you trust me?"
Kathy: "With every cell in my body."
Same honestly
bae'zel conquers all!
She has no cells so she doesn't trust her
"Hmm, what color is the button?"
"Uh... like, bronze-ish? Does-does that matter?"
Ah, she truly is a DnD player
I think she was thinking along the lines of if Red don't press and if Green do so
one of us! one of us! one of us!
The fact, that Kathy wants to be overly cautios, good natured and caring yet at the same time is happy to have her companions slaughtered while saying "oh well, we need to find more allies" shows one thing... Cathy is a Durge
omg chatgpt playing durge...
"Shadowheart doesn't seem to be any threatening race, so I'll bring her with." - ChatGPT
*Shadowheart Approves*
*Lae’zel Disapproves*
Skipping the main quest and fucking around? A true dnd player she is!
ChatGPT DURGE 👀
Are you TRYING to make terminators? Cuz that's how you get terminators!
seconding this
BRO YES
"Sorry Kathy, I accidently killed Wyll."
"That's okay! Accidents happen. Let's bring Laezel along in his stead!"
Damn, Kathy, that's cold.
To be fair… he is Wyll. She understands that nothing of value was lost
bro wtf
@@malaizzeracist
Chat GPT has a memory limit of how much of the previous conversation it remembers, it is best to constantly make a summary of what happened to prime it every now and then as it remembers only a few thousand characters.
It is also a good idea to prime a persona for the chat.
Kathy really bonded with Lae'zel.
I feel like this would be better without permadeath. She was too scared to do anything but beeline straight for the githyanki to get to the cure because she thought the whole party would die. If she knew they could be revived, she may have loosened up and done more side quests and fought more enemies along the way.
I agree! I would love to see more of this. Letting her know that there is more time to explore and see, hiw she decides.
DanRack has been doing this idea for two months now
@@Sushigh0stI knew I’d find someone fighting the good fight 😂
It reminds me of my first playthrough, where I took the threat of death quite seriously to the point where I would only long rest when I absolutely had to and went straight for the solutions
it actually makes a lot of sense that out of all quests the first she takes interest in is karlachs, since shes also a Tiefling.
Put this towards upgrading to gpt-4! It can read from screenshots, it would save you so much time and effort in making these videos.
Hey thank you! I’m sure the 4.0 model will do much better LOL
@@dumpykong don't mention it, man. Love the content! Keep it up.
I would like to see this as well. I enjoyed the video.
@@dumpykong bumping this bc id love to see another one lol !! either way thanks for the video : )
Man this is so interesting. It highlights one of the biggest issues with open-world RPGs: the urgency of the main quest vs. the appeal of side quests. I have a love hate relationship with side quests because they can be kind of immersion-breaking when your character is supposed to be doing something more important. I think devs could learn a lot from using LLMs to playtest their games lol.
To be honnest, the AI is right, why would I help people when I only have a few days before turning into an Illithyd?
I love that Kathy is so ready to kick Astarion out of the party at every turn.
When the AI goes "The only good goblin is a dead goblin." XD
GPT pulled a goblin slayer
**Kathy finds injured mindflayer.**
“KILL IT!”
This is a wise bot you have here.
But also "mind flayers are dangerous and can't be trusted".
Guess what race IRL that also applies to.
twinkish elf man caught me by surprise and Kathy calling him a twink made me spit out my drink
Accurate tho 😭
I’m still kinda curious how the AI would do without the whole perma-death thing (and maybe being given a little more nudging in the right direction) so it could actually beat the game and experience the full story
I think the whole cantrib drama and not knowing that it pocketed Astarion showed how dumb ChatGPT really is and that it doesn't understand what it is talking about at all. The AI would have probably forgotten about the whole trip through act one at the end of it.
@@HQbaracuda honestly there are players out there who will have forgotten much of act 1 as soon as they did it. Even more in act 3.
DanRack does this!
@@HQbaracuda you can save the conversations with the ai...
*Cathy kills her companion* "It's ok, accidents happen!" 😂
"I'll just get started, like a f****** zoo animal" made me actually lol. That line alone is worth subscribing.
Kathy played this a lot like my first playthrough. But I even skipped the creche because I managed to kill bae'zel in the cage and dream daddy told me to avoid the creche so I did! I wound up at Kethric at level 3. Didnt do the grymforge, didnt touch the underdark, did no side quests in the shadow touched lands. The fight to Ketheric managed to kill Jahiera, decimated my party's health, spell slots and potions. Arrived nearly dead at Kethrick with a spider in with the adds who ate me for lunch. Oh that first run was PAINFUL. I think I landed one shot in on Kethric before everything just pummeled me into oblivion repeatedly.
Level THREE!? You skipped EVERYTHING except for the Temple of Shar 😭
H O W do you end up at ketheric at lvl 3. Literally how
@@kinsan89 Yah that first run was pretty horrible on my part. I didnt even make it out of Kethric phase 1. I was lucky I even made it past the gates. I reloaded so many saves to not die repeatedly to the hunger of hadar that those mobs drop right on top of everyone. I didnt get Wyll, I did get Karlach and I did that area with the "paladins". I saved the tieflings and got lost so many times trying to get back to the emerald grove. I think Halsin was at least activated but when I went in to Kethric I didnt do the whole portion to clear the shadow curse so even if I had beaten Kethric, Halsin would have been gone forever. So I could have gone into Act 3 probably at level 4, No Laezel, no Halsin, no Minthara, no Wyll, and I'm unsure if Jahera would have been revived or not so its possible I could have gone into Act 3 with no Jahera either. And knowing my incompetence on that run, definitely no Minsk. Looking back knowing what I know now. No circus. Volo would be dead. More than likely I would have fought Gortash with the full compliment of Steel Watchers (another point I'd definitely have game overed at that low level). I'm unsure if Nightsong would have been with me because I did nothing about Isobel (never met her. Never went upstairs at Lights Rest), so Gale's questline may have had an interesting detour if I even would have done that portion at all. Duke Ravengard would definitely have wound up dead along with the Gondians so the Ironhand gnomes would have taken over and tried to blow up the foundry AFTER I'd have had to deal with the steel watch and Gortash because I was an idiot. Probably wouldnt have finished up Shadowheart's questline. Probably wouldnt have met the Guild. Likely wouldnt have even touched the sewers. I would have spent days of frustration meandering around Cazador's place and likely had game overed on that fight. Orin I'd probably never have found and would have game overed on the Murder Tribunal as well as her fight (because the buff she gets would have been so confusing to myself back then) Would never have done Ansur.
So many potential game over points for my noob self. I'm just glad I dusted myself off at the Kethric failure, made a new character, and started exploring a LOT more. 2nd run was a lot smoother. I killed the spider early on so he wasnt in there trying to oneshot me. I was level 8 rather than level 3. Phase 3 was difficult for my noob self because I did not understand what that phase was doing to my melee characters. Only real "game over" for me on that run was running into the Cazador fight unprepared. I was out of spell slots on Gale, I had none of my long rest buffs, Shadowheart I think also was out of spell slots. I reloaded a previous save and long rested before going in to his fight and came out a lot better. I did have to try again on the brain as well. Didnt quite look at what was being dropped on me and I kept getting killed by the platforms dropping out so all of my brain time was getting wasted reviving my Tav and team and got very little damage on the brain in time.
"her train is on the right track, just sideways" that's genius and I'm stealing it harder than kathy stole the works of writers
I Love how thirsty Kathy is about Lae'zel. She Loves her XD
When I heard her say that us wasn't going with them I was ready to cry Also the way she responded to him asking about the dying mind flare was hilarious, girl took that personally
Sir Stonefist is indeed very fuc- I mean handsome...
Hahahahah this broke me so hard, I wasn’t expecting it
Permadeath probably wasn't the best idea. The cool video idea can end just because you end up dying in combat.
It's a cool video idea, but it must be insanely time-consuming to type out everything to the AI.
IMO, Wyll should have been revived because it was the DM’s fault more than anything
Yes, that was the point lol
Check out DanRack if you want the non-permadeath version of this idea
please do this again! This is legitimately one of my favorite youtube videos i've seen! It's such an interesting concept, and I love the way you wrote out conversations with Kathy like it was just a normal game of DnD. I'm gonna go back and watch more of your videos now.
The Nightsong theme when Shadowheart died was just... chef's kiss.
interesting how ChatGPT considers tings very similarly to the Emperor; and is also a Lae'zel simp.
Cheating on homework is indeed the best use for ai
Yes
And also cheating on homework
Not making art, that’s for sure.
@@FaeMagic Oh yeah
Lol I'm in college, and literally every class I've had so far, the teachers have to have a spiel about not using AI, "they'll know"
I went to the creche first too until the game told me I was under levelled and would be missing key story moments by entering the mountain pass.
“Shadowheart doesn’t seem to be of any threatening race.” Kathy chill out 😭😭😭😭
19:20 ''The only GOOD goblin is a DEAD goblin'' HAH! aint that the truth.😂
Honestly this kinda feels like a whole new genre of game. It sounds a lot of fun for you to be able to play as the DM. Hope they develop an actual full scale game where you’re the DM
I find the choice to release 'us' but not to take them with the player to be an interesting one. I feel like there aren't many players that choose that option.
I did it! Wasn't taking any chances with weird telepathic brain abominations (at first anyways). Then I was bummed to find out they're actually friendly
My wife actually killed it on the spot, so much she mistrusted the thing. I was like "Damn..."
The only time I killed it was when playing with Lae'zel (RP reasons). All the other times, I got Us with me, since another companion to fight devils is one less devil to attack me. :)
@@alphamorion4314 i also killed it right away.
its a talking bring on a shit where weird alien creatures put stuff in you. Chances are this might happen to you at some point. You also see it in a man/corpse's head
hell no, under normal circumstances I wouldn't take that with me or even save it. I evaluate it as a threat 100% of the time. The only exception is if I know the story plot, which now I do, and even so it feels weird to ally yourself with that
I would have preffered if this wasn't permadeath
Same, Seeing what Kathy would do with all these characters personal quests would be amazing. But I also understand that doing the ENTIRE game would be an insane amount of work. Maybe this is the teaser for that? Who knows!
DanRack has a non-permadeath chatgpt plays BG3 series
12:33 “a twinkish elf man” 😂
Never played dnd. Does this how "dm defending players from their stupidity" really looks like? Also, it's kinda sad, that if that would've been a real campaign, preparations and plot about underdark, grove, goblins, hag, grymforge etc were just skipped by the players "trying to cure themselves before it's too late". Tho it does make sense with plot like that outside of videogames perhaps
I can confirm that (as a DM) if the NPCs the players encounter say "you're going to turn into a mind flayer soon unless you find a cure" they're probably going to beeline it for a cure and ignore the cool underdark sidequest.
However! BG3 creates a false sense of urgency that you (as a DM) can say, "hey, I know you guys as players don't trust this mind flayer who's protecting you, but the artifact you have is protecting your characters from turning into a mind flayer"
@@NecklineArmada that makes sense. The game also does that with the unavoidable "absolute voice -> artifact protection" cutscene, followed by the night with dream visitor promising protection. So, plot wise, players can be really urgent in following the main quest, until unavoidable points, where main quest is now "Discover how artifact protects you, while searching for a cure".
Players would've been able to understand that, unlike the current AI. And, I assume, players also sick side quests for level ups in tabletop too, so now with the relief that death is not unavoidable without a cure, they will seek EXp.
Generally speaking, when there is what seems like a time crunch in character I will tell the players they are fine. I am running a pathfinder adventure path atm, and in session 0 i told them there is no time crunch in most cases so they are free to come and go as they wish. there might be a time where they trigger something but i would make it clear that it was something they needed to take note of when they triggered it. The adventure itself is a 10 level mega dungeon, and i wanted them to feel free to explore, take downtime in town, ect without feeling like if they did that they would die.
Even knowing that sometimes they get laser focused though lol
I have seen some players do the beeline thing 😂
I realize it would take forever to do the entire game but this would be EXCELLENT without permadeath. I desperately want more
DanRack has a series on chatgpt plays bg3 (no permadeath). His streams are up to middle of act 3 and there are already about 4/5 videos in the series on his channel
The Emperor sends the artifact zooming to his one remaining potential pawn, and Astarion on zero character development promptly zooms straight to the opposite side of the world from Cazador. The Absolute? Sounds like someone else's problem to him!
Daamn I was so emotionally invested in this video! I really hope for a part two/ another version of this in bg3
Lmao at 19:15 - she manages to peacefully solve the situation and the goblins run away, good job!
Alara - "The only good goblin is a dead goblin 😀"
I think that was a request to chase them lmao
We need to see Cathy do it again
Honestly when I play bg3 I can’t stop making new characters maybe I need chat gpt to make my decisions for me 😭
This is hilarious because I'm in several large BG3 groups, and I've actually seen SEVERAL new people try to play this game in this way. With as hard as the game tries to make sure you know you can explore all you want, SO many people still power through. I even had one poor soul who was level 5 trying to beat Myrkul.
100% stealing the name "Crag Stonefist" for something in the future (be it a PC I play, or an NPC I drop somewhere into my world. That name is just too good NOT to be stolen XD
Now use it to help you beat some messed up game full of bad choices 🗿
"Her train is on the right track, it's just sideways." 😂
As a DM, I would ADORE having a character like the one this AI has come up with, in one of my stories.
18:27 HAHA DO NOT APPROACH THAT BARN! ABORT, ABORT!! xD boy did i regret my curiosity that day. i was not happy finding out what made that noise but sometimes you just want to know.
i really enjoyed this! would love to see Kathy on 4.0 giving it another go.
"Good goblin is a dead Goblin" i love that 😂
"May Shart rest in peace" killed me. 😂
Amazing, the world needs to see a sequel to this, where ChatGPT beats Baldur's Gate 3 having learned from the failures of the last playthrough
(or gets closer to beating it)
"I apologize, I got a little mixed up. I'll choose firebolt!" lmaooo
Maybe if you would have said to the AI that exploring the crypt might mean they will meet allies like Laezel that she already met would have helped her decisions at the beginning
"Accidentally" killed Wyll. Also, her not liking spiders is hilarious.
the horror of slowly realizing this isn't a "act 1" video. it's going to be the whole run because of kathy's decisions 😂😂
Kathy proving why milestone leveling works better for narrative heavy campaigns
PLEASE more Kathy. This was so entertaining.
This was actually great with permadeath, because you got the AI actually role-playing the character, which honestly, is the best way to replay BG3.
I love your videos! You have such a fun personality for commentary! Please make more Balders Gate content! Maybe try to beat the game without killing anyone to make up for the slaughter on the previous series?
I remember when I started watching this series Cathy has grown a lot from the Elden ring video and I hope this series continues because I love it keep up the good work dumpy
It's funny how Cathy seems so eager to get rid of Astarion. I felt the same way when playing BG3, but grudgingly kept him in the party since he is so useful to unlock stuff...😂
this was a great idea, very fascinating to see how AI "thinks"
Would love to see the GPT4 version of this. This was fun, really cool idea for a video. And, while it obviously works best with a DnD game, you could theoretically "Dungeon Master" any heavily choice-based game for GPT. This could be a whole series.
damn she was really determined to get party wiped by the gith
I would legitly watch a series of 4 AI all playing a game together, even tabletop stuff.
ANOTHER BG3 VIDEO?!
IM IN HEAVEN
You should give Kathy another chance, this was great
This video made me realise the potential for ChatGPT to make character designs! The half-orc was giving main character vibes. Also, really cool idea for content!
John Halo: Where's Cortana? I want Cortana!
Dumpykong: We have Cortana at home.
Cortana at home:
Skipping the main quest and just doing random stuff is the true RPG experience.
Not gonna lie, Kathy's panic and choice to immediately try to find a cure is how I played. I was even too scared to long rest because I thought I was on a timer. Also I think Kathy has a crush on Lae'Zel. Same 👏🏻
at this point we're going to run out of all games before we get elden ring dlc
As a side note, I'd LOVE to see a chaotic neutral AI absolutely tear down this world lmao
OMG I loved how you reacted to the AI's bad choices hahahaha
Dumpy making AI into a cute dnd playing anime waifu is confusing me
this was a really fun idea hopefully we can see more d&d action with kathy in the future
When the world neede him most, he returned!
This AI is wild 😂😂😂. A great mix of terrifying and entertaining lololol.
GPT needs more explanations and context to have any kind of sense similar to a human's. Also its token limit/context window is extremely short, so it forgets important information very quickly unless you use the new Memories feature. This is one of the reasons you were running into some key issues. Gemini has a 1 million token context window which makes it better suited to long adventures, but I don't know if that's included in the free version or how the quality is on it.
Bro, so true, ChatGPT so damn good for my final year of Uni 🙏
"twinkish elf man" 😭😭
you have to try this again. it was soooo good
chatgpt has memory limits, pretty sure the ai forgot shadowheart died when she reached the mountain pass
I actually really enjoyed this; I’d love to see a continuation! Or an updated run when 4.0 comes out
gotta redo this with GPT 4o
This was so much fun! Could you continue the run or start a new one?
Great video as always! I kind of find this fascinating as a case study of BG3's narrative-gameplay breakdowns. As you said in the video Cathy was "too smart" sometimes and played-like an actual D&D player instead of treating it like a videogame. Don't get me wrong I love BG3 but it does have some serious narrative issues
"The only good goblin is a dead goblin" XD love that part.
Gonna need more of this
She wanted her guardian to be Grog Stonejaw for sure 😂
This whole setup is like a better version of AI dungeon 😂
19:20 i see kathy is likes goblin slayer abridged
I hope the day comes when I can play co-op with the AI because I have no friends.
With the new chat models that have come out so far with much longer context window, it would be interesting to do a video like this again.
I really enjoyed this, but I'm a little confused. Companions suffer perma death, and that happened to SH early on, but Gale also died when they met Karlach however after the long rest...he was back in the group? Huh? Did I miss something?
