That is one of the best songs ever. I remember first hearing it on the car radio in 1976 and thinking, wow, what a song and I have never stopped listening to it, absolutely amazing! Long live Deep Purple, Rainbow, Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio and everyone else ever involved with that amazing mix of musicians over the years and God help us with the music we have nowadays!

Fuckin mesmerizing! Just close your eyes and lock onto a damn fine performance! Everybodys on fire! An amazing performance to give you goose bumps! Blackmore is definately in a good mood and "in the zone" as is the band! I miss Dio so much! This is the definition of Rock N Roll! Madrigal
The compositional majesty of Blackmore, the Blackmore Snake Charmer Scale and the bombastic Strum and Drang attack of the tune in Wagnerian proportions plus the Dio on vocals, the power drumming of Cozy and the fantastic playing of Bain and Carey - probably the best line up of Rainbow
As a naive 16yo I saw Rainbow in late November at the luxurious Adelaide Festival Theatre (South Australia). Well it's all true what everyone says about Rainbow circa 1976. The band was on-fire - RJD's voice was a powerhouse - the huge album backdrops - the mesmerising electronic Rainbow - it was AMAZING.
@@vinylsolution2522 there is a brief excerpt in poor quality on "Rainbow Over Texas ‘76", a short documentary included among the bonus features of the "Live in Munich" DVD.
Tony Carey left after this lp. Couldn't deal with Blackmore's arrogance. I saw them in the front row back then and Carey was playing up to the audience, looking at the girls. Blackmore gave him a frowned look. I caught it. He gestured him not to do that. That did it. Gillan had trouble with him too.
@@joefraonemusic4901 He didn't get to Jon Lord. A classical music composer. It was Lords idea to do Deep Purple In Rock from what Iv'e heard. Lord said he just lifted the ante anything Blackmore did musically or otherwise. RiP Lord.
He did well ... Carey was an unknown kid in those days and he had to stay in his place, think about playing and doing on stage a performance of the highest standard, which was what Ritchie always expected from everyone being as well as a phenomenon also an exemplary perfectionist. If you acted like a rock star, like Gillan did, you were fucking highly upon him ... and then Ritchie would destroy you.
And only 9 more in the last 2 years which is only four and a half people a year which, given the global population of over 7 billion, isn't too bad, all things considered.
The only thing I don't like is Dio's vocals, they seem off to me. Some of his lines finish too early, and it even feels janky at times. (It isn't terrible by any means, by the way) If you could combine the thunder of his vocals in the studio version with the amazing instrumentals of this version, then it would be perfect and would probably be one of the greatest songs of all time. This version is still good, and features superior instrumentals for most of the time.
When you're in the studio you can sing a line or two multiple times to get the best take and then add that too the album. This technology only began in the late 60's early 70's. On top of that in a live performance you have to sing multiple songs for at least an hour or so. You can't blow you're whole wad on one song, you have to make sure you can do the whole show.

Sure wish there was video of this performance......Classic!
Watched Rainbow on this tour (1976)..my first concert! UK Manchester. Awesome. Never forgotten.
You lucky fucker!
I saw Rainbow the first 4 tours/ albums. Saw Deep Purple Cal Jam 1 too.
I also saw Rainbow on that tour in Australia in 1976. Brilliant by the whole band.
Kashmir and this... It's amazing what human beings can create, and I’m supremely grateful to be conscious of the greatness of things like this.

Tony Carey is the world best hard rock master Keyboard player in Europe & the world.
And he was just so young. His playing I saw in Adelaide in November 1976 was amazing.
Tony was exceptionally gifted only to be paired up with masters!! Bless him
Ritchie Blackmore is the world best hard rock grand master Lead Guitarist in Europe & the world.

Post mk II Purple, this is the best line-up Ritchie played with. After this, it went slowly downhill, I'm sad to say.

that's cuz it's a little fast tempo here. the live album is proper speed for Dio's vocals to hold & sustain.
