    Well done, it’s nice to see I’m not the only one trying to keep these things going!

      It’s shocking to see how many people are fixing the really old ones up again and not buying the new junk 😮😮😮

    Great video! I did this repair on my lawn tractor for almost 10 years ago and it helped a lot on the handling of my lawn tractor. I think it would have been better if these bushings was made of aluminum compared to plastic because then they would have been more durable and lasted way longer than they do.

    I totally enjoy the way u explained it even when things didn't go on the right way u didn't cut away and fix it therefore when viewers have a problem it leaves no room to wonder about what to do cuz I clearly show the repair thanks for ur time and it really helped a lot identifying parts I was unaware of thanks

    I also did not mark where the two gears meet (1/2 moon and the shaft gear) where approximately should they be alligned when wheel are straught forward? Thanks - should have watched your video before I replaced all stearing parts, did not realize those 4 bolts could be removed from under carrage, near impossible from top side. Thanks Again / Jerry

    You had better luck getting that gear removed. Put blaster on mine to get rid of the rust , letting it sit , see if I can slide it over enough to get that part off

      I will say, I was fortunate that there weren't any parts stuck or seized together. Also if you are still having trouble, a mix of acetone and ATF is better than any off the shelf thread penetrator.

    I ordered an entire steering assembly, instead of replacing the bushing, but I cannot get the outer sleeve off the steering column. I've even tried heating it. Any thoughts?

      Might be able to right a way to attach a slide hammer and force it off that way?

      @@TwoFourSevenDIY TY for the idea. Turned out 2 days of oil, heat, twist worked eventually. You're the best. You made my repair possible. :)

    Yeah that's great. Have fun doing it every 2 years as we have had to do. Having that PLASTIC shaft support there in what is already a sloppy mounting is an absolute garbage idea and execution. It's made what has been an otherwise reliable tractor into a headache. Just a stupid design.

      Original one lasted 20+ years ...

    • @packrat76
      @packrat76 11 месяцев назад

      Are you hard steering it a lot, steering at a dead stop and/or using it on rough terrain? Forcing the wheel is going to strain the components more, running into things add additional wear tear.

    • @TwoFourSevenDIY
      @TwoFourSevenDIY  11 месяцев назад

      No not really but my property is significantly oversized for this smaller mower, I made it work for years until I upgraded, just ended up putting a ton of hours on it.

      @@TwoFourSevenDIYI broke the steering gear, the large wing gear, forcing a parts mower steering wheel. I was trying to get room for a jack and destroyed the gear. I had no idea you could shatter it like that in the side spline shaft input of that gear. Toast. The newer set-up is better, I think they introduced that in 2004.

    THE GREASE WILL ATTRACT DIRT

    • @TwoFourSevenDIY
      @TwoFourSevenDIY  Год назад +3

      Sure. But a dry bushing is never a good thing. Everyone has their own way of doing things.
      I always grease bushings like this with very favorable results.
      If you get good results from not greasing, then keep doing what works for you 👍

    • @packrat76

      Garage door lube may be better and attract less dirt. It's available at Menards and Lowe's and other stores in an areosol spray.

      I've actually got a can of that ... white lithium grease ... could give that a try if I ever need to in the future
