Lyanna Mormont ruled even before she showed up
true
I wish we could have gotten a scene with her and Stannis together. Just imagine how that would have went lol.
she should be happy Stannis didn't hang her for treason
+The Mannis because he couldn't even if he wanted to
Kim Jong Stunning bear island doesn't even have 100 men
Despite what he says, I'm pretty sure Lyanna's response amuses Stannis.
she is a lot like him. her line about small talk could've easily been written for stannis.
+Gooby Blackfish probably died so they could tie up a lose end, just like Rickon and Osha, but I agree it was stupid to kill him off-screen. Victarion was cut so they could simplify things things, basically giving a version of his storyline to Theon and Yara. He is far from the only character cut, there are literally 100s of characters left out and not all of them male.
You know nothing. Especially not Stannis.
I don't think anything amuses Stannis tbf
Caitlin Brewer o
Such a shame that Stannis couldn't meet Lyanna Mormont face to face. A scene between them would have been absolute gold.
Ikr,it's like two gods meeting each other
He would be like: "And where is your King in the North? Dead? By Roose Bolton's hand, who lords over you in Winterfell. Tell me girl, do you consent to his rule over you, or will you join me in my march?"
The REAL reason the wall was built was because the White Walkers are afraid of both Stannis and Lyanna.
ArdoBlueMoon tell me my lady*
"So you're the little bear"
"So you're the runner-up king"
Imagine the rush of affection Jon must have felt for Lyanna in that moment. His famliy's gone and the world thinks they're traitors. He's grieving and feels alone, and probably can't stop thinking about them. And then, suddenly, along comes a reminder that the North remembers them too.
Well said
Yeah even in defeat and being scattered the Stark name still commands respect
Funny how the Mormont sigil is a bear when they are the GOAT.
the fact that Lord Mormont was also like a second father to him only adds up to that affection
One does not simply laugh in front of Stannis the Mannis
wad316 jon did in the books remember when stannis offered val to jon he laughed at his face
Raven Strategist On the other hand, the survival of the Night's Watch is due to King Stannis.
So they helped each other.
Raven Strategist And a king is supossed to take into account their subjects opinions and advises. A king isn't allmighty, nor it is the most intelligent man. He can't come out with a perfect plan all the time, he has to have a lot of advisers and counselors to guide him in the correct path, because they have other points of view on the matter. A good king isn't the one who does what he pleases, but who takes their counselors advices into account.
Raven Strategist In the books that's exactly what happens. Jon gives his advice without Stannis asking it. In the series is just a complete mess, don't watch the fanservice imagination of D&D, read the books

@@jason951138 why did they omit such a good and deep dialogue in the show?
@@prafulyadav661 there are thousands of such quotes they didn't omit in the show. I can only recommend the books to you.
@@prafulyadav661 A lot of season 1 is taking straight from the book, although some stuff is cut like when Ned talks to Bran after beheading the deserter. Even this scene in the books has so much more depth, as well as famous ones like Oberyn offering to be Tyrion's champion, all better in the books. I highly recommend reading the series, never enjoyed a book more
I think this scene was Kit's best bit of acting ever. You could tell how badly Jon wanted to do it, but couldn't. The conflict in his eyes and how he was subtly shaking.

It's actually amazing just how well they did Stannis last season... right up until Episode 9 when they did a complete 180.
It's 360 bro
...A 360 would mean everything came back to the way it was. They totally changed him for the worst at the end. Hence a 180.
I imagine that in the voice of Tywin right before shooting the dude in the Last Action Hero.
OMG!! you should have like 10,000 likes for that comment, I guess not many people know that Tywin was in that movie!
That's right. I was delighted they finally started to valorize his character ( his touching moment with Shireen, his concern for the threat of the White Walkers, his admiration for Jon ).
When winter comes for war, You shall hear no Lions roar.
When winter forces you to yield, No Stags shall graze upon the field.
When winter creeps upon you from the shadows, No Roses shall bloom from the meadows.
When winter wreaks havoc on the land, You can bet there'll be no Snakes in the sand.
When winter brings to life all it finds grim, The Krakens will freeze where they swim.
When winter sets and the land begins to shiver, The Flayed Man will start to rot and wither.
When winter fights to the last sliver, No more Trouts shall swim in the river.
When winter ravages and all despair, No Falcons shall fly high in the air.
When winter shows you what happens when snow falls, Not even Dragons Breath shall warm you in your halls.
When winter comes with all it's might, Only the Wolves shall howl in the night!

"Is Stannis really dead? I've heard conflicting reports." - Lyanna Mormont, Vanquisher of Smalltalk
He is dead
At this point, Stannis is pretty much dead. Brienne says it herself and Davos pretty much reaffirms it when he confronts Melisandra over the burning of Shireen. And at this point he has nothing to contribute in the progression of the storyline since Jon has been made King of the North. Shame how he had to die tho committing such regicide on her daughter. He was one of my favorite characters just before that moment.
Scott Poulton indeed, they could ve made the same like they did with the hound.
Brien could have spared him and said:" for all you have done life is worse then death now"
dir calls jow no, it was confirmed by Roose bolton that they found his body, he's dead for sure

***** 1) Robert was king for 17 years, 17 years were the kingdoms were at peace.
2) Stannis did not have that many men. 100k was Renly's army, most of which were Tyrell men and their bannermen. When Renly was killed, the Tyrells and their bannermen retreated in the Reach to plan their next move. Only House Florent defected to Stannis.
***** Your ignorance knows no bounds.
Stannis had only 21,000 men on the Blackwater, and while he lost heavily, this was because half of his army deserted him (Over 8,000).
***** False.
As it stands.
Stannis; 21,000
Joffrey; 70,000+
Robb; Counting levies not called to arms, I'd estimate easily 60,000.
Renly;..............
Balon; About 25,000
He had the smallest standing Army of all living kings.
Pls stop with the ignorance.
when you play the game of thrones...

+Masterchief Yet the Starks will win. Sansa (emotional manipulator), Jon (Heroic fighter), Bran (visionary) Arya (assassin), Rickon (Untouched ruler), Lady Stoneheart (avenging spirit) really they lost only 2 honorable kind and good fools. Plus a good side of Cat. But the important children survived and Cat will do her revenge and than die. So House Stark is better on it than Lannister imo.

Stannis was such an amazing character. I believe part of him trying to help Jon snow were for his own personal gain. But the other half is because he respected Jon. And also he wanted to do a kindness for the man who died and started Stannis claim for the throne. So him looking out for Jon he sees it as rewarding his father for his bravery.
I think what makes it more amazing is the actor hated the role and couldn't wait to be done with the character. Kept it professional til the end

Magaly TS Indeed. I imagine they might use certain Stannis plotlines and apply them to Jon instead.

In Joseph Campbell's 'monomyth' from The Hero with a Thousand Faces, this is a moment of temptation, when the hero/heroine is offered a choice to step aside from their path but refuses. What follows is the Abyss, a literal or figurative death and rebirth.

They fucking destroyed it, they should have teamed up stannis with jon and the northerners.
1:13 - Is that a smile? :o
+Flying Spectacles north nationalism
Hello no
they're meant for each other
My one complaint about this whole ordeal in the tv show is that they dont really show why Jon really turned Stannis down. In the book Stannis's terms were actualy pretty shitty. He would be named warden of the North and heir to Winterfell, just like he said in the show, however stannis's conditions were that Jon also had to pledge his devotion to Stannis and the Lord of Light by burning down Winterfell's Gods-wood. You can see how that would be a problem. Couple that with him being a bastard, and the Northern lords will just see him as a deserter who now sits on his brothers throne which he bought by denouncing his father's Gods. That is really why Jon turmed him down. His vows did play a part in his decision, but the terms Stannis actually gave him were a bit shit to start with anyway. I can see why they made the terms better for the show since they want to play up Jon's "too honorable for his own good" character flaw, but I really wish they kept his real terms. Also, why give us more Sam and Gilly, but cut out Mance Rayder's son and wife from the story? That is just dumb fan service. Anyway I digress.
+Matt G Sorry but the card of "too honorable for his own good" is played as much if not more in the books than in the show. Jon snow didn't seem to care about what people would think of him when he decided to break his vows for going agaisnt ramsay.
Also, stannis never required him at all to burn the godswood of winterfell.
"Say nothing of what we've discussed here today. To anyone. But when you return, you need only bend your knee, lay your sword at my feet, and pledge yourself to my service, and you shall rise again as Jon Stark, the Lord of Winterfell."
I don't see: "and burn the weirwood too, btw."
The Greater Good Let me rephrase then, it was not Stannis, it was Melisandre. In the second to last Jon Chapter in book 3 Jon is told by Stannis that he will give him Winterfell if Jon will rally his father's banners to Stannis's cause. Jon then says that he swore an oath before the old gods to serve the Nigh's Watch. Melisandre then said that his vows to the Night's Watch were false because the gods he swore them to were false. She also said he should "Burn these weirwoods, and accept Winterfell as a gift of the Lord of Light." So, in truth, Stannis did not ask him to burn down Winterfell's Gods-wood. Melisandre also did not directly say that he should either. However, it is safe to assume that he would have been told too since Stannis did a similar thing to Storm's End's Gods-wood. Even though it might not have been said, he was still going to have to denounce the old gods anyway if he joined Stannis. That is why Stannis's terms were characterized as "shitty" by me.
And to the first point of Jon Snow being equally honorable in the books as he is in the show, their is not doubt. Both try to drive home his noble flaw. However, since we cant see into his head near as much in the show as we can in the books, the show had to make his honorable character show more. In the books you get to see it all through his eyes, so you know where he places his vows to the Nights Watch. However, their are several times in the show were a viewer may feel that Jon did actually turn his cloak and join the Wildlings. I know I felt that way before I read that part in the books. In order to show his true devotion to the Nights Watch, the writers made Stannis's offer too good to refuse. That is why so many people who watch the show, but haven't read the books will say that Jon was dumb for not taking Stannis's offer. (I know this from my own friends who watched the show, but have never read the books. They all got super hyped when Stannis made his offer too him, and really disappointed when he denied it.)
Hopefully this clears up any misunderstandings.
+Matt G I think Stannis would of been ok with Jon keeping the Old Gods. He certainly doesn't care that the Clansmen, Umbers and Mormonts worship the Old Gods.
+Matt G I never understood this one attempt, even as a book reader. Stannis, a man so dedicate to Honour, laws and codes that he cut Davos' fingers off while also knighting him, is so dismissive of the sacred oath of the nights watch that he thinks that he can just dismiss it from a man if he wants to.
TheAlbion yeah, kinda contradicts his character doesn't it?
I really liked the scenes with Stannis and Jon, they seemed to have a lot of respect for each other.
Part of the respect was because if Ned, and Stannis knew Ned to be honorable because he backed his claim to be king
Little Lady Mormont is such a badass!
Even though Stannis rocks, I love this because Lyanna Mormont is just a little girl trolling everyone. So badass
and it turns out she's a complete badass that made Jon, Sansa and Davos work for her aid
What people don’t understand it seems, every scene of Stannis in the books is literal perfection. He’s one of the best characters and he was wasted in the show.
Hate to ruin your mood but it is quite sure that Stannis will die in the next book. Just like in the show but not as shitty and not from breaking his character

Well, he isn't a Stark in name, but Stannis has the power to legitimize him.
Oddly enough, Stannis is in the same boat. He can claim he is king.
However a king without a throne.
He can claim all he wants, all it is is empty words without legitimacy - that was lost multiple times.

Here the character of Jon Snow rises as he doesnt kneel to stannis to give him that he most desires... to be a Stark but he goes through hell to earn it himself and even rise as the king in the north... Beautiful
I love Davos' face in the beginning of this when Jon reads the letter. He so genuinely feels bad about the Stark situation. You can see it
The north remembers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my heart came out of my chest in this scene... so did in the first season when robb was named the king in the north by the other houses... the starks will rise again i just know it...
This Fucking scene always gets me and makes me tear up because of how hard of a life this man has had and to see his face when stannis asks him to kneel
Very underrated scene. Like how pragmatic and to the point Stannis is.
Jon of Houses Targaryen and Stark, The First of His Name,King of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Man,Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm.
Men
Incredible weight. On one hand, Stannis is resorting to seeking the bastards of noble houses for his support in a disastrous campaign. On the other, there’s real power others have put behind the Starks, and he’s not dumb enough to try and wrestle a clearly belligerent opponent. Jon Stark could have been the boon he needed to find Northern support and change how ASOIAF ended.
Stephen Dillane was fantastic as Stannis. There were so many top quality actors in this series…
okay I haven't watched the first 4 seasons for at least 4 or 5 years now
I think it's time
there's something so soothing about watching it for some reason even though the world is full of pain and suffering
it feels like home
Despite not liking what Jon did at least he’s willing to give him advice on how to deal with those that will backstab you almost like good fatherly advice.
I love the fact Stannis called Lyana "this wretched girl".
That must’ve been tempting to Jon. Nothing more he ever wanted up until that point than to be a Stark.
This scene gives me chills, man. CHILLS I SAY
In the books part of the deal is for Jon to burn the gods wood at winterfell and commit to the lord of light which only adds to the conflict as to ensure the continuation of his father’s house he must destroy his father’s gods
at the time i thought jon made a huge mistake here...turns out its the smartest thing he ever did turning stannis down
+Gooby because at this point, Roose was still alive. Had Jon accepted, he probably would have perished because Roose would have waited Jon out if he were to attack. By refusing Stannis, Ramsay kills Roose and meets Jon on the battlefield instead of playing it smart because he thought his army could defeat Jon's without any consequences. Ramsay didn't take the Knights of the Vale into account.
nah if Jon would have took the offer most likely he would have been able to recruit the wildlings and get the other northern houses combined with the Baratheon army. Plus with all those northerners Ramsay's 20 good men trick wouldn't have worked.
“bear island knows no king but the king in the north, whose name is stark” walked so “she is my queen” could run

Also a lot of his horses died from deasese and were burnt alive by 20 Men from a Bolton raid in the night. I think nearly half of stannis's army are on horse and the boltons mainly have infantry so it will be interesting to see what will happen. Stannis has the upper hand but he will have siege winter fell and a great many other castles before he can take the north which will be hard but I believe little finger and the armies of the vale will play a key part in the war to control of the North.
lady moremont is just so loyal look how long ago she was saying that
Lyanna's handwriting & Jon's smile... so cute
Snow is the King of the North now. And Lyanna Mormont is a badass.
In the words of the all-mighty Shia Lebouf: JUST... DO IT!
Thanks for uploading this Bobby B.
Davos has such a smooth voice!

THE KING IN THE NORTH!
“wretched girl” lololol I love the Mannis
This scene gives me the chills - perhaps even more now than it did when I first saw it.
The North Remembers. Starks will rise again.
+Nurlybek Bekitayev Sansa Stark, the Queen of The North! Ramsay and House Bolton is going to get absolutely *destroyed*.
Sansa is no queen lol.
She's the oldest Stark left living, so she would be Queen of the North & Lady Stark of Winterfell. Provided Ramsay hopefully gets eaten by a pack of Dire Wolves. (secretly hoping Nymeria & her pack come along to fuck shit up.)
Jon could have a greater right than Sansa if he were to be legitimized. Or if R=L=J is true and somehow everyone finds out.
well Ramsay certainly got eaten...
I miss good King Stannis :(
He burned his own daughter alive!
+BlackTalon53 Show Stannis is not good King Stannis, I would agree with how people see him given how is portrayed. But he's a parody of his book character who has successfully rallied House Mormont, House Glover, the soldiers of House Karstark, Clan Liddle, Clan Wull, Clan Norrey and is on the point of getting houses Manderly thanks to Ser Davos.
he dind't showpleber
@@Commonsensical513 GRRM has confirmed that the burn at the stake moment will happen in WoW
@@dobson. Probably under different circumstances. In the book, Stannis is getting ready to ambush a Bolton/Frey army in a snowstorm. Shireen is still at the wall, with Melisandre. If Melisandre takes initiative and sacrifices her due to "kings blood" and brings Jon Snow back with that, it'll drive a rift between Stannis and Melisandre, and Snow for that matter.
"That amuses you?"
"It does, and I'm tired of pretending it doesn't."
Rare moment which was better in the show than the book.
