He changed guitars because a young lady in the front row had a sign asking him to play Space Between. She was right in front of me in the pit, and it moved her to tears. Awesome job by Dave making that girl's night!
"You asked so nicely." Embodies pretty well everything that is so great about the best band of all time. Made up of some of the classiest, genuine and sincere people around. Proud to be a fan of such a class act.
+Mark Phillips You nailed it, what a gracious comment and nod to the girl before playing. Hey, the rest of the crowd seemed completely agree as they all sang along!
Unreal to be such a gigantic success and yet able to take a request. Don't know the story but I like to imagine this changed someones night/life. I know it would me! What a wonderful human being he is! The croud singing word for word is enough to make you weep!
It did actually. It was my friend who was holding the sign, she held it patiently the entire show and as soon as he played the first chord she burst into tears. It was amazing. We'd also threw granny panties on stage a few songs earlier and it made for some amazing "Davespeak" lol
A world class musician who recognises that it's the fans who put him there, rare indeed. And what a buzz it must be to have thousands of people singing along with you. Much love and respect to you Dave, you are truely one of the greats.
Was never a huge fan of DMB until around 2001 when I watched the performance of the Tribute to heroes. Since then I really began to listed to the lyrics and pay attention to the message in the songs. I finally saw them Live a few days ago.. Just amazing. Can't get enough!!! This song is beautiful!!!
Awesome that Dave would do that because a fan asked him so nicely. “Love is all we need.” Thanks to Dave for being such a cool human being and spreading positive vibes.
This songs brings memories of my childhood, back then I had a brother in the marines and when he'd come home he'd play this song... pleasant memories love you Ruben. Your Lil Sis. Kass
I just thought this: I feel sorry for Dave, in that, he can never just totally love a Dave Matthews song like this. I hope there's someone that he can listen to that provides for him what he's provided to us!
Aaron Greeneinteresting thought. I wonder what it's like from his perspective . It may be far better than we'll ever experience...if that's even possible(?)
It is as good as it gets. It's still work; but the best possible kind. The kind of work that bursts with sustained joy because the sacrifices have been made and you are with a team of professionals that have made this also procedural. I recommend Steven Pressfield's "The War of Art" as a window to artistic mastery, work ethic, and surpassing complacency.
His songs are a reflection of him. His songs are an external expression of how he feels on the inside. "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about." -Rumi That field is the space between.
Aaron Greene I can't say for sure but I know as a musician that the few songs I've made I absolutely adore playing them. More than anyone likes to listen to them. You poor your heart into the song and performing them just brings all these wonderful feelings and sometime not so wonderful feelings. He is experiencing a better experience than we do as the audience. It is somehow possible
@ChesterCopperpot5 I appreciate the details you've made for this video. From giving credits to those involved to the actual sign in the end. Good job mate.
Take my hand ..cause were waallkinnggg ouuttt offff heeerrrreerre....4:15 i got chills an how the crowd sand that part along (listen with headphones on)
Now THIS is the Dave I love - pure, soulful voice & acoustical! Just wish the audience was quieter, but I'm sure I would have been singing out loud too. :) Thanks for sharing!
The first time I heard it, I burst into tears. For reasons I wouldn't understand until 15 years later. Now, my wife of 14 years and the best friend I ever had recently decided to leave, no chance for reconciliation, just Goodbye. Now I fully understand why I wept that day 15 years ago. I guess I knew in my heart that one day I would in some way destroy my life irreparably and never be the same again. Weird premonition or whatever, but that's why I fell in love with song but can't listen to it without needing a stiff drink, and Maybe a box of tissues. Lol
My first experience on rail and what an amazing show to pop my cherry! Granny Panties tossed on stage, acknowledging my girl Christina's song request, AND I got a drumstick handed to me by Carter the God and a pic from Stefan? Couldn't have asked for a better show!
Was at a show in NYC and the crowd was chanting "Two Step" between songs during the encore. Eventually, everyone at MSG was chanting "Two Step" in sync. Dave stepped away from the mic, and chatted with the band again and they then played "Two Step." It's very cool when you see a band that can call an audible at any given time rather than a set concrete show setlist night after night. I always wondered what they were gonna play before "Two Step." Anybody else have that experience at a DMB show???
M Busch the same exact thing happened in Burgettstown, PA around 2002. Even in an amphitheater everyone was in unison. They were clearly ready to play something else. Dave walked around and then did one of his arms up flailing gestures towards Carter and then Two Step! Awesome
I prefer the cover of A Whiter Shade of Pale, but this is so sweet of him. Best granted request I witnessed was Halloween in Atlantic City. End of night 3, crowd chants for Halloween, Carter psychs us out starting Ants then...into Halloween. Crowd was THRILLED.
Kathleen Marie, What Did your friend say space between is? One of My favorite Songs. Saw Dave with Brandi Carlie, Awesome Show, Two very down to earth people!!
I believe he would've played Whiter Shade because A. He hasn't done Baby Blue in forever, and B. He did play Whiter Shade 2 days later in West Palm Beach.
No it's in "Raised B". At 00:30 When he's talking to his tech/walking over to switch guitars he's asking him "do you have the high-b?". Re: Is his guitar that's strung in raised-b tuning ready to go....
He changed guitars because a young lady in the front row had a sign asking him to play Space Between. She was right in front of me in the pit, and it moved her to tears. Awesome job by Dave making that girl's night!

Absolutely spot on❤

Much love and respect to you Dave, you are truely one of the greats.
What an incredible moment. I'm so grateful that this was recorded and uploaded, stuff like this doesn't happen a whole lot.
Very proud to say that the "young lady" is my very pretty friend.
FREAKIN DAVE IS A CLASS ACT.... LOVE THIS MAN

Miss B what a beautiful memory.
So beautiful even still in 2021!!
I didn't know what I know now. Those were the best years.
Best version ever!
This was so awesome! As soon as I saw him switch guitars, I knew! WOOHOO Christina!
I just thought this: I feel sorry for Dave, in that, he can never just totally love a Dave Matthews song like this. I hope there's someone that he can listen to that provides for him what he's provided to us!

This is so beautiful, it hurts.
That was awesome...he's so good to his fans!
Beautiful, solo version...So Proud of Tampa during this Song....
Christina, I wouldn't have been able to listen through my tears..hell I cry when he just plays a song that hits me the right way. Lucky girl
Take my hand ..cause were waallkinnggg ouuttt offff heeerrrreerre....4:15 i got chills an how the crowd sand that part along

Dave Matthews for President!
I think I've watched this a thousand times! Love love #love
This is why Dave is awesome!
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! 💙
Now THIS is the Dave I love - pure, soulful voice & acoustical! Just wish the audience was quieter, but I'm sure I would have been singing out loud too. :)
Thanks for sharing!
Simply Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
That was friggin BEAUTIFUL!!!
You've gotta feel sorry for those poor 6 people who have given the thumbs down to this video.....wtf went wrong in their bitter lives ??????
Those are his 6 ex-girlfriends! (who didn't want to date a penniless musician) lol
They are the ones that bring the signs to the show that say "Ants Marching" on them.
Well played.
so glad you made this! i love what you did on it, captures the moment perfectly!
WOW!! He's such a good guy.
So many favorite songs and this especially
I really love this version
This is amazing
Incredibly cool story about this performances as told through the comments here. Great editing the various video sources, too.
THAT ENDING!!!!
Absolutely LOVE this!!! Thanks Jason :)
The passion he stirs is perhaps unparalleled.
" The Space between, your heart and mine, ... is the space we fill with time"...
Love the hd video recordings. I'm surprised you're able to get these into the venue. Very nice.
What a beautiful acoustic version! Live Trax worthy!
How cool is that shit?! Man of the people
The song reminds me of a terribly failed relationship between a couple who are
very much in love.
Amen amen amen!!!!
Just living the same situation right now... this is the song for that moment..
@@diskmaker2 So sorry that it is a difficult time for you
Well that’s exactly what it is lol

Never forget when I saw him in 2001 for the first time and saw him perform this song .. sounded exactly like the album
Wow. What a magical moment.
Amazing, Just amazing.
Wow. Beautiful.
And I am still watching...
This was not one of my favorite songs by the band...but I absolutely love this. Looks like I need to add this to my favorites list
The things you miss when you're sitting in the back. :( This was very cool, thanks for the video.
Amazing
Best song ever.

I love this band. Thank you for giving us the best music Tom Hanks! LOL
That's awesome.
and i've been in the 'space' he describes, as well... thank you Dave for verbalizing my feelings so well.
So WELL...
God I love that song
Probably the top songwriter/ psalmist of our time...
That crowd 🥰
i always study with DMB music. He is my men!
Very Cool Jason
Dave to Monk: “Do you have High B?” (The guitar tuning needed to play Space Between). This is great.
Love what you're doing! Be cool to,see some other bands too.
Love it. I was at the show at the Riverbend that kicked this off and I'll never forget it!
Kathleen Marie, What Did your friend say space between is? One of My favorite Songs. Saw Dave with Brandi Carlie, Awesome Show, Two very down to earth people!!
damn awesome. sounds different but great!
More like making my entire life!! ;-)
I know who that young lady was!!! ;) so cool.
Damn, that boys good!
If you don't get chills at 4;20 you're probably dead❤🙏
I believe he would've played Whiter Shade because A. He hasn't done Baby Blue in forever, and B. He did play Whiter Shade 2 days later in West Palm Beach.
💟
was there a "bullshit" at 4:17 when the mic moved on him?
"Wontcha"
1:03 is the start
Take my hand
Cause we’re walking out of here
I'm floatin'
class act
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
thank you.....thank you very much....yab dab dodab,,,,,
I wish I was there instead of being 2 years old
a friend of mine explained to me what 'the space between' is... i feel like i am part of the inner circle now. thanks lai.
Can you explain me what does "the space between" means?
Anyone know why it was so uncommon?
does anyone know what he was originally going to play on the griffin?
He also plays shotgun with it.
Damn right this video has 0 dislikes!
I wish he'd switch back to the OG Chet Atkins Cedar and show his chops
But i got all the time for you, love...!
Not true. He covers "A Whiter Shade of Pale" with it.
The lyrics are so devastating to me. :(
No, They've had it for the past few years.
Not much moves me, but wow... I just got my ass kicked by some guy with an acoustic guitar.
is his guitar standard tuned in this?
No it's in "Raised B". At 00:30 When he's talking to his tech/walking over to switch guitars he's asking him "do you have the high-b?". Re: Is his guitar that's strung in raised-b tuning ready to go....
ok good but he usually play this song on "open B tuned" (Baritone) guitar.
idk.. i might of wanted to see baby blue over space between.. because thats the only solo song he does on the little guitar
check out drcopperpot for his alt. rock concerts. Very Nice!
All I see is John Cusack playing The Space Between.
One of my favorite songs of all time. Not a fan of the whisper version, but it's still better than most everything else.
'do you have a high b?'
Most likely would have been A Whiter Shade Of Pale.
