I'm Blown Away... ❤❤❤
Derek makes it look so easy. Emotional, and hard melody. I’ve heard a lot of great guitar players over the years and not many are better than Derek!!! Holy shit that’s good!!
Every time I come back to this video I read the new comments because I want to hear more people talk about how good it is.
Same. Every time I hear it-every single time-I get goosebumps.
Like maybe somebody will find better words than the rest of us to describe it
What a perfect comment
Lol, you know why I'm here.
Currently doing this.
Derek Trucks may be the Greatest of all time. He makes me cry everytime. When someone's playing has the ability to move everything . That's beyond technique. That's Art
Thought I was the only one
I really believe he has surpassed Duane
Amen. He has that uncanny ability to reach heights with his solos that few other guitarists can get to, but then he always ties it back to the melody of the song. Just a consummate musician.
Agreed. Saying someone is the “best” musician etc is subjective, but I can’t think of any currently touring musician who can touch him in terms of tone and phrasing. Absolutely as good as it gets
same. goosebumps when I hear him. that Gibson Is connected straight to his soul.
Jesus christ. Been a fan of derek for years and years... I'm speechless. Third watch in a row and im still getting full body shivers. I'm not even religious but this performence has me so shook there has to be something otherworldly about Derek's connection to music. 😢 incredible.
🙏
I can’t stop watching this, must have seen it a thousand times. Derek gets me right in the feels here, and I love how much Carter is enjoying it. I can’t think of a more song-appropriate guitar solo ever, let alone ad-libbed… Ridiculous
They didn't even finish! They put it to bed so perfectly that Dave called off the final chorus! Best LIOG version ever!
have been following the band since 1994, and this really may be the best LIOG ever. i don't think i've ever seen dave say "no, that's it". absolutely ended on perfection.
But …. But …… 😣😳😥😭
I mean...technically they're still playing this song. Maybe some day Trucks comes back on stage and Dave belts out...I CANT BE-LEIVE THAT WE WOULD...
and they pick right up where they left off and finally finish the song!
It was awesome, but I really wanted that final chorus. My favorite part of that whole song.
When he plays songs he's never played before, or haven't played in a long time he has an uncanny ability to know exactly what is needed then and there, and to blow some magic dust in the direction of the song.
I've seen him do it so many times I've come to expect it as something completely normal. But it's not normal by any stretch.
He's quite possibly the most melodic and soulful guitarist out there, not just among the current generation of guitarists, or only slide guitarists, but across all generations stretching all the way back.
I've cried more than once to him .. out of sheer joy of being alive and being moved and understanding exactly what he meant at that moment in this wordless language we call music.
I adore him.
Cheers 🍺
Well said mate!!
His utter mastery of the guitar is one thing. The fact that he makes it look *EFFORTLESS* is another. Incredible.
This should have millions of views. One of the best performances I've heard in years.
Totally agree
Yes
Yep!
I second that. This is may favorite song and my favorite version so far
Just found it on the tube, you're correct it is incredible!
For some reason I just discovered this video last night. I came back this morning to make sure it wasn't a dream. Wow!
That’s Derek Trucks…the baddest in the land
Derek Trucks is otherworldly. He makes the absolutely impossible look easy, and NOBODY sounds like him…. Because his playing is inseparable from his spirit. Just incredible.
I've listened to this so many times that it shouldn't still give me chills. Yet every time....
That Derek is insanely talented and DMB is just riddled with talent with musicians
Me too! Brilliant!!!❤
Butch Trucks,Gregg Allman & ESPECIALLY Duane Allman is smiling… that is all. ❤❤❤
Thank you Derek for making our world a better place with your talent!!
I’ve always steered clear of any kind of “who’s the best guitar player” arguments because there are so many amazingly talented people out there. There’s just no standard for what’s “best” in music. There shouldn’t be. But I think Derek Trucks brings a level of musicality and honesty and humility that enriches every performance he’s associated with. I could listen to him play for hours and never get tired of it. Such an inspiring musician. And for that matter, so is Dave. Absolutely beautiful video!
I read in a news article from a local Jacksonville, FL news paper that Derek's dad gave Derek his first lesson and he said, "Derek learned everything I knew in 30 minutes".
Safe to say I think he was born to play the guitar lol
I miss the Allmans so much. Derek blows my mind everytime I watch him play. The grab for the slide at 3:15 is so subtle but only he can do it like that.
The day after this performance, he came into the restaurant I work in on Amelia Island! He just got coffee, but he was super nice. I even got a picture. It was the best day ever!
At 3:15 how Derek goes from fingers on the fretboard to slide so smoothly; Masterclass
absolute gunslinger draw on that slide
Came here to say this. Nobody is smoother and more humble than Derek. The absolute goat
Quickdraw McGraw
It baffles me as a fellow slide player who wears jeans as to how he can get his slide out and in use so quickly
It's like Goku making a transition to a Super Sayajin
Derek Trucks keeps adding to his legend and mystique with every brilliant solo.
This is literally the best LIOG of ALL TIME.
Go listen to Trey from PAC Bell Park
New Year's 96 Bela respectively disagrees! Derek slays here
fosho!
Vernon downs 96 as well. Boyd brought it to this unbelievably sick crescendo. Could of been the acid too. But I'm pretty sure it was Boyd!!!!
I love how happy the rest of the band is listening to him. Look at Carter's reaction around 4:45 and Rashawn around 6:13. Love it!
Good call!!
No matter how experienced or the instrument they play, band musicians must get a bit awestruck by DT. Not only his playing but he never seems to be egotistical.
DT sorta does the old "somewhere over the rainbow" lick, and Rashawn was just like oh hell no. is jeff taking a photo too?? hilarious and unreal.
Oh Yeah. When you see the other band members just smiling ear to ear at each other at each as they watch him.... Wow....
they all enjoy the greatness of Derek being great top musicians themselves and serve this incredible guitarist in the best possible way for this song. The synergy between band and this guitarist is almost overwhelming. Sooo freakin' good. Absolutely mindblowing and what a treat for everyone on stage and off stage. Seen many great guitarists but Derek man, man ,no words. The best!
OMFFFGGG! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 Goddess have Mercy, Derek Trucks.... Feeling the ENERGY just from watching this vid, that man is plugged into Source.
The legend of Derek Trucks continues......
Nobody plays like Derek, nobody. There are no words.
Peace
Oh my God; I just cannot imagine a world without Derek Tucks, he commands every stage he steps upon. Amazing, what a beautiful performance, he has mastered his craft.
Back in early 1995, I went to a Gregg Allman & Friends show and the opener was a young cousin of mine, all but 15 years old. Sure I went to support a family member (and I'm a huge fan of anything Allman Brothers related!), but being a guitar player as well,I wanted to see what this kid had to offer as a player. I was shocked. I was stunned. I was in tears by the second song of his set. The playing had touched something very deep in my soul that night. Very few players do this to me, but when they do, it's pure nirvana. I was watching a kid play, but heard an old soul that night. Since that night I have seen him grow and play in all kinds of situations and bands more times than I can count. And each night it gets better and better. Col. Bruce Hampton called him an energy, and I couldn't agree more. He has this ability to morph into any song and just turn it on it's head and back again and this is just a prime example. Derek is as humble as he is good, and this 27 year long ride has been the best.
That was beautiful man!
Cheers 🍺
You put into words what so many have yet too. By quoting Col. Hampton, " he's an energy". His relationship with music and his humility allows us all to feel what he brings intimately as fans. Susan shines and together with the amazing bunch they have around them and around us, bring everyone's day up to emotional vibrating crazy great kind of a buzz. I'm grateful to be sharing time parallel to them all. PLUR !
I love it when you think “this is about to be awesome” then still blown away and moved to your core after the anticipation. So good.
Anyone who’s ever picked up an instrument of any sort knows that this is as good as it gets. Wow.
24 more days until I finally get to witness this MASTER & HIS LADY SUSAN, and all of the incredible musicians in their well polished BAND 🎶🎼🎵🎸🦅🎸🙏🙏🙏, 20 minutes from my front door 😊 GJ CO, I am so excited 😊
Easily one of the best guitarist ever. Did anyone else catch the shoutout to Layla in the breakdown at 7:00?? Respect.....he grew up learning from Duane Allman. The best teaching the best. To make a cameo in someone else's show and shoutout like that....true humility in musicianship.
Duane was gone 7 years before DT was born. Influenced perhaps, as well as by Coltrane and others, but I am sure his uncle’s tales of Duane helped.
There are so many epic moments in Derek's solo but I always smile bigger at the part where he downshifts and dials it way down at 6:05 and then he hits the bird song note at 6:15 causing Dave's trumpet player to nearly twist his own head off, mind blown.
Yup
Good catch. It looks like he said "God damn!"
Oh man! I never picked up on that head twist. I just giggled out loud like a child when I saw that... I am 47.
Thanks you Duane for letting your soul move into another form so close to home in this infinite galaxy. ❤️
Most guitarists will sit in and play a solo. Derek sits in and performs the song. A complete performance.. When he nodded and cued Dave at the beginning to sing, you know this is a guy who leads his own band, and every other band too. Stellar playing and musicianship! Mad respect from DMB and their fans!
yup, listened to this song live 100s of times, heard dozens of guests. no one has ever owned the song as much as DT did right here.
He did that nod in the Allman Brothers' performance in Atlanta when he was a kid! His uncle played the drums.
Amen! Trucks feels the music, soul in every note. Unlike most “guest” he learned the song, then took it to a level i haven’t heard in 30 years of fandom. Man’s a genius on the strings.
DT's solo - before he even pulled out the slide - was ridiculous... I keep coming back to this
im not a musician but everytime i see trucks with other bands, it looks to me that they are amazed by him. look at the drummer, how he's smiling during the solo, dave himself dancing..
They are. We all are.
That was amazing. Derek Trucks can share a stage with some of the best musicians in the world, and they just stare at him in awe.
This is one of Derek's best solos ever. He was really really feeling this. Dude has been a legend since he was a kid. And one of the few guitarists that has never plateaued. He's just got better with time... somehow
This might be the best live version of any DMB song of all time…
This might be my all time favorite guitar solo!! Goosebumps everytime I listen to this. My also be my all time favorite version of LIOG.
I don't even think Derek rehearsed this with the band, I'm convinced he just drove to the show, walked in with the old SG, plugged in and played the best Lie in Our Graves of all time with DMB. Another level awesome right there, even the Bot Tim Reynolds stood back and loved it!
Check Derek out with Billy strings
Probably did. Besides what a great player he is I love that his love for music drives him to play with as many musicians as he can!! There’s a treasure trove of him playing with freakin everybody!! Lol
DMB is forever love and Derek Trucks makes me cry everytime 🧡
I’ve never really been a fan of screaming electric guitar, especially the long solos Tim does. I always feel like DMB could do with Tim at about 40%. I didn’t know who Derek Trucks even was until a few days ago, but I’m definitely going to learn more. This performance was incredible. His guitar playing was so soulful, so musical, so inspired… I’m stunned-I’ve never heard electric guitar like that but I want to hear more.
Derek has played with the Allman Brothers in their later years (heyday in the 70's/80's) but I think Duane Allan is his inspiration - listen the Eric Clapton's classic song (with Derek & The Dominos) and you'll see what I mean
You'll be pleasantly surprised and you'll certainly enjoy him. Listen to Tedeschi Trucks Band. You'll fall in love real quick. He's an amazing guitarist
@@janelebofsky1827 Plus, Derek's uncle was the Allman Brothers' drummer so he grew up around it. A great environment for an immense talent. And what a result we all got in Derek Trucks.
Sg right into the amp, no effects or pedals either.....
It’s one of the best rabbit holes to go down!! Besides his own bands he’s played with many greats. Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, phish, Clapton, Santana, Los lobos, Nora Jones, Johnny winters, buddy guy….I mean dude, seriously, I could name at least 20 more. Not only is he great he’s extremely collaborative 😁
What did i just see ???? Unreal …. Derek makes it look so easy breezy ! The best performance of this song . I’m still shivering!
Derek killed it. The drummer, too. What a sensational combination!
I cannot stop listening to this version of LIOG. Trucks is absolutely amazing and the way the band let's him play in his own way is amazing....love love love this version.
Did anyone else get dust in their eye?
Derek's playing never fails to move me....but damn this version of a fantastic song just hit emotional overload! Simply brilliant.
Sweet Lord Jesus...
This is divine!
I love Derek since day one, but regardless the solo, the entire band deserves a big shout-out!
The section works like an F1 engine at its best.
I have always enjoyed DMB for reasons similar to TTB, unique and play every song with respect for the song love this thanks copperpot5 🙏🙏🙏
Wow...speechless...once in awhile the moon aligns with the stars for a perfect performance like jimi think at central park. This was one of those beautiful moments
Derek Trucks tells a story in every song he plays. You can just feel it...
It ends with Dave motioning to Carter and then slide the slider back to 2:53 and let it ride again. The words don't come easy to describe what this is or what it does to me and I'm sure you as well. Let's just be thankful we're alive when this is all happening and the lasting effect it has on our lives. We're so fortunate.
lol Dave at the end - "The Dave Matthews Band is now the Derek Trucks Band, thank you, goodnight!"
There's a lot I miss about the original DMB lineup, but there are some songs that this current version of the band really crushes and Lie In Our Graves is one of them. Awesome guest spot from Derek Trucks.
Wow I had heard how good his solo was but man that amazing.
Holy hell. Got to be the best performance of this song I’ve ever heard. Absolutely stunning.
Living legend Derek. He is already a legend. The band members were in awe and some were recording him during the solo. That is how very good musicians appreciated a guitar legend.
my favorite part is that the most replayed section is not the beginning of Derek's solo, but after they break in the middle of it and come in with soft touch
absolutely unreal performance. was fortunate enough to see him live, and no words describe what kind of show that was. No one like Trucks. Personally I think we're witnessing a legend that isn't truly appreciated in this time period. it may take a few generations down the line, but I think when it's all said and done he will be seen as the goat of this generation. eventually he'll take his place in music history where he belongs, alongside Hendrix, SRV, Gilmour, etc...thanks for sharing this video for all of us to see!
I know exactly what you are saying after seeing TTB once I was hooked he is universally respected yet somehow criminally underrated
He's unbelievable
Cant say is the best ever bc music goes by taste, but I can say for sure no one can play like Derek and i doubt anyone has ever
The Pinnacle of Live Music Sit-in! sheeeeeeeeesh. That was staggeringly excellent! Dave Matthew’s gave him the time and space to go deep
I keep coming back to this just to watch Carter’s reactions to Derek’s solo
Incredible. Brought some joy tears from smiling so hard at how smooth Derek can make that guitar sing, one of my favorite guests they could have on stage. I was hoping they wouldn't jump back in to finish the song after that, and Dave's communication to the band was just perfect, like nope, we don't come back from that... Thanks for the video.
Goosebumps and tears every time I listen to this, and I've listened at least 50 times
Oh my my, as tears fall from my eye, a window opens to the sky from the heaven I hear you slip and slide on your guitar weave your way back into my heart no matter how near or far .
I have had many musical lovers in my life but DMB is my true and only love. Twenty five years of unconditional love. They are a part of my best and worst memories. Always a big help when needed. I wished I could be able to say thanks
A beautiful painting just turned into a masterpiece by Derek Trucks. Astonished!
Derek Trucks you are filled with Gods spirit.. Guitar playing out of this World!!!!
Derek has to be the best modern day slide guitar player!
Wow, Derek Trucks, just wow. But can we please give some love to Carter Beauford too - the friggin chops on this guy! Hell, it's Dave. There's not a single underwhelming or less than stellar artist on that stage. Including audio and visual! Stunning all the time!
If Carter Beauford is the drummer you couldn't be more right. He was fantastic.
Carter plays same shit, everytime....but he's good for DMB for sure...
@@TorbenMartin-ei9xwHe's def good for Dave, but real talk, he's good all around. He plays the same because that's the style they play in. Thats the vide DMB has always had. Thomas Pridgen has crazy chops, but sounds the same because of the style he's in. But he can bust out some gospel, jazz pop, etc, if you ask him to. Same as Carter, Tony Royster Jr, Danny Carey, even Joey Jordison (RIP).
I just love love love this song so much. Love how at the 5:50 the lights, the fans' cheers, the crescendo of Derek's playing all happen at once...chills! Anyone else notice how at the 7:00 minute the crowd is completely silent and listening respectfully to the last notes of Derek's solo? Thanks for sharing Jason!!!
the crescendo of this song (whatever version) is one of my all-time favorite DMB moments!
Got to grow up in the Duane Allman through Derek Trucks era, I don't think it gets any better then that!!
YES! I was fortunate enough to be there live and have been waiting for your contribution to come out. A few others are OK but I knew you'd do it right.
If you watch Derek's fingers, you have to wonder if his fingers even touch the strings at all. He just goes on & on. What an artist!
2 of my favorite musicians of all time together: Carter Beauford and Derek Trucks!
I think Dave is just a big fan and he's like this is all you man, I'm trying to recover from the chills you just gave me
Outstanding! This is absolutely a great Masterpiece.. what a beautiful performance.. I love so much this ❤😊 Bravo !!!
Never been a fan of Dave Matthews Band, but Derek knows how to bring a song to life!
I first saw this guy play at Crossroads and man just a super guitarist now!!
This gets better and better each time. But the tears of Joy stay the same.
Basically, a Multicam video with the quality of a Pro-shot. Amazing one, my friend! Really appreciate all the work behind it
Incredible! Derek adds magic to this magical song!!! ❤
Amazing! I cannot adequately describe how much I love this! ❤
Thank you all DMB for the 2022 tour. Never miss your show’s upstate NY…..Saratoga , This year caught you at Woodstock Awesome show almost 3 hours ya all like a Fine Wine the older the better
This is incredible! Whoever was there to experience it live got a real treat! So cool!
Truly love this kind of music.. Nice & satisfied by the performance.. Thanks
A spiritual booster for the soul.
The ad that popped up in the middle of his solo should be illegal
Absolutely ! Beautiful ! I've always loved that song :)
Every time I hear this song now, it feels naked without this solo
The talent on that stage 🤯
Dave Matthews is a very lucky guy to be able to play with all the great musicians he has played with especially Carter!!and Rest In Peace Laroy🙏🏽
That felt like flow state, Derek! Absolutely beautiful!!
This version and Experience is forever in my memory
I am a die-hard Phish fan, and while Trey happens to be my favorite guitarist alive right now, I think it would be hard to dispute that Derek is the *best* guitarist alive right now
Agree ! I really believe he has surprised Duane
Love Phish so much too
best guitarist….going on now the last 15 years
Two completely different sounds and styles. But I can't really disagree
@@christiansummers9070 yup, I fully-acknowledge that it's dumb to compare one artist with another, particularly when they play different genres... but there is really no one else out today to compare Derek to. he has created his own beautiful sound.
Totally unreal!! I love how Dave played too. Totally inspired
Chester, this mix/and cut up is as top notch as Trucks' performance.
Ive been listening to tedeschi trucks band and DMB separately this week, didn't know this collab existed until today but WOW
This is absolutely beautiful and transcends the DMB song. Not sure what if anything compares to this - keep coming back to it over and over again.!
One of the best versions of this song by far. Pure art!
I can't stop watching this video.
It’s so neat to see other amazing artists perform other amazing artists music isn’t it? The way Derek brings his own style to LIOG is nothing short of awesome. What a combination! Some serious musicianship onstage
Derek Trucks understands on a deep level the truth that music is communicating through instruments. Listen first and when you have something to say, say it.
