    I want to try something like this. I was thinking about doing an acrylic surface or maybe pouring and epoxy surface. Thanks Jason! Your an inspiration to use all.

      Thanks Dave...thinking maybe a couple of chairs to match..just need some more chain.

    • @1pcfred
      @1pcfred 8 лет назад +1

      People put out chain all the time. I usually find it strung across some poles in drives. Just cut it, and roll it up. Help yourself!

    • @MakeItMetal
      @MakeItMetal  8 лет назад

      hahaha..i've thought about that myself.

    • @1pcfred
      @1pcfred 8 лет назад

      jason andrews
      yeah you just have to do the picking in out of the way places. Which is where chains normally grow best anyways.

      my workshop is just down the rd from some docks...iv'e put the word out to them that i'll buy their old lifting chains..im just waiting for them to start rolling in.

    Great table Jason I love the abstract/ steam punk design. I don't know about your area but here in the states items like this sell very well and in the right market fetch nice price tags! Great work and sea ya Thursday nights.

    I've found using vinegar to remove rust is the easiest way just put normally vinegar in a bucket put the chain in leave it overnight when you take it out wash it well with tap water and dry with a compressor It works for taking scale off as well

    • @MakeItMetal
      @MakeItMetal  8 лет назад

      That's a good tip Daniel. I've used a vinegar bath to remove rust in the past and it does the job well. I tend to make my videos on the hop and don't normally have the time to prep the materials before hand. All told..i love the sound of air tools in the workshop.😁

    Seriously, how you think up these projects is genius, but the way you carry out the builds takes a master craftsman.... Another job well done... Two thumbs up... Carry on the great work... And never getting tired of the music.....

      thanks Robert..massive compliments there!!! this idea was born of necessity ..needed a table..haven't got the cash to buy one..but i did have some scrap chain :)

    omg, that is so damn cool! I think you set a record for tack welds in the process. I've got a 14ft tow chain in my garage just waiting for a project like this.

    • @MakeItMetal
      @MakeItMetal  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting Gordon. It took a lot of tacks for sure...have to make a couple of stools to go with it next. 😁

      This project is something I would love to weld up with my everlast. There are a lot of tack welds to be sure but the results are fantastic!

    I'm currently building a stand to hang a log I found in a creek. I'm using an old large linked logging chain. I'm thinking about sandblasting the chain where I'll be welding. Have you thought about blasting your rusted steel instead of wire brushing it? Nice job on the table.

    • @MakeItMetal
      @MakeItMetal  6 лет назад

      Hi Saint...sand blasting is a great option, sadly i don't have the right gear here at the shop. most of my projects are built in an ad hock fashion..i pick up the material and then just start building. going forward i plan to get a sandblaster (or maybe build one) Thanks for the comment :)

      I'm going to attempt making a video of my build. It's a project I started in the fall and stopped because of winter. Doing this project outside. Shed is to small and my home/cabin is not much bigger. If you're curious about the end result I'll send ya notice when it's done. Made a video of the log that's posted.
      Godspeed brother.

    • @31saint31
      @31saint31 6 лет назад

      The end result will be this. It's not welded at this point.

    Certainly better than any store bought table, and you can say 'I made it myself'. I kept watching not knowing what design you had in mind, and you surprised me completely. Is a chain chair next?

    • @MakeItMetal
      @MakeItMetal  8 лет назад

      Thanks Karen. As soon as I can lay my hands on some suitable chain then chairs are next.

    Excellent Vid Jase!
    That damn chain ain't cheap ,,but sometimes at auction I find good long pieces .
    Planning on using a similar idea in a big plasma cut out clock /sign I'm making ,but just as an outer border.
    What goes on top ? Plexi ?
    Do you have a run in setting on that unit ?
    I have my set fairly high to give me a little softer start with a big gas wash,,but it's a pain in the ass when I do a lot of tacks ,so I adjust it to almost no run in

    • @MakeItMetal
      @MakeItMetal  8 лет назад

      I love working with chain...but only clean chain..i have the unit set with a 70% start up for .5sec then down slope for .5sec 1 sec post flow..works awesome normally but struggles when earthing is poor (this chain was dirty) however the set adjusts itself when tack welding to suit the material.
      can't wait to see the clock!

      it's a table? it holds beer. this was one of my 1st videos on youtube and i was still finding my way re how to film, what music i should use. one thing i learned early on was to appreciate other peoples talents and effort..whether they were to my taste or not..i notice that you make amazing creations and you have a great talent..i'm sure one day your channel will get noticed and you will accrue far more views and subscribers than you have.
