    My story is different but ends succesfully. I am 76, live in Christmas Valley OR off grid in a house I built myself. I had diabetes for 16 years since before I retired. I was overweight/obese, high blood pressure and a survivor of prostate cancer. I spend the winters in Tucson AZ as it is too cold here. On March 1, the day after I watched Forks over Knives, I decided to go Vegan, cold "turkey." I lost 25 pounds, no longer take meds for diabetes or high blood pressure. I think I may have watched over 400 hours of youtube vids re this subject matter, including multiple presentations from McDougall, Fuhrman, Esselstn and son, Campbell, Greger, Barnard, and Dean Ornish. I continue to watch more videos and use them as a support system while I dine. I am sure I will never eat another animal product in my remaining years.
    Thanks for putting out such refreshing videos.

    Go to Nebraska! My husband is from Omaha. You guys are beautiful couple. And I am not referring to your beautiful exterior. I am looking at your insights. I see kindness, compassion, gentleness and deep caring. I wish you lots of success. And it’s exciting to see plant based lives in the heartland! My husband also was eating rolaids every day at age 18. He grew up eating ice cream for breakfast and red meat every day. At age 18 he just stopped eating hamburgers one day and he felt so much better he stopped meat altogether and never went back. We were both vegetarians already when we met in 1985. Over the years, I’ve gradually given up foods that didn’t feel “right’ or weren’t making me feel great. Eggs, then wheat, then dairy. I never even heard the word vegan back then. I’ve been visiting our family in Nebraska for 32 years and I used to just subsist on a baked potato and iceberg salad. Now there are more and more options out there. Keep up the great work! At age 54, I’m my leanest, strongest, happiest and healthiest EVER!

We always love connecting with those who are from the Midwest and it’s always especially exciting to hear success stories! Thank you both so much for your stories! You have come to discover these things earlier than I did! I have a similar story with the gut issues, acid reflux, etc. the doctors only prescription was eat more fiber or go buy some psyllium. For years I never linked meat, eggs, cow milk and cheese. Finally after taking a nutrition class and being introduced to some of the studies, I realized for my own health I needed to make changes in my diet.

    You guys are awesome! Everything you said is so true! I have been a thin person my entire life (due to genetics) and at the age of 47 was diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure which lasted 12 months! There is no family history of high blood pressure, and the doctors I saw told me to excercise more, cut salt, coffee & alcohol out of my diet and eat healthier. Well, I was already eating healthy and excercising, and after 12 months of making these changes, checking my blood pressure 2 times a day there was no change - my blood pressure was still through the roof! My doctor said I would have to go on medication, which I refused to do - so I went vegan instead. After 3 months my blood pressure decreased dramatically, and I've been vegan for 1 year and a half now and my daily BP readings are perfect everyday now - 'and' I have as much salt, coffee and vegan friendly wine as I want! 😁🍷

    You are smart to start eating healthy at your age. The sooner people do it the better. I'm 50 years old, and someone today told me I look like I'm 30. She asked me a bunch of questions about being vegan. I told her ... living food (raw vegan) keeps you young ... and the sooner you start, the better. :D My neighbor recently said to me ... "You never get any older." I have always watched what I ate, but didn't go vegan until 6 years ago. Wish I would have started sooner. You guys are heading on a great path! You'll be looking super young when you hit 50. : )

    lol same age as you guys... I began feeling SUCH a difference a couple years ago. Even though 30 isn't 40, so many people just think these aches and body issues are just parts of getting old... no. Then found out I am Celiac and dairy intolerant (which I already knew fortunately)... but WOW how diet changes a life for the better (or worse, depending on what people are consuming).

Everything began almost 3 years ago whem my son( at age 2) were oficcially diagnosed with ASD. I had to become the better version of myself asap! Those were my toughts that day...and i'm still going. Look to the future and imagine you're not there next to your son because of what you're doing to your body is not an option. i chose health. I chose life. It's been great to go along your journey. I'm in Nebraska too :-) It just seems a little more difficult to maintain an organic diet the further out you get from the bigger towns. I live in Gothenburg and we have to drive 35 miles to even get to a grocery store with a decent produce section.

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  7 лет назад +1

      The Kneady Homemaker it definitely is a bit more difficult in smaller towns. There are some great online resources to get organic dry foods like grains, nuts, and seeds like Thrive Market! As for produce, you just have to vote with your dollar! The more we show that there is a demand for organic, the more it will begin to be supplied! Either way, studies show that eating conventional produce is still healthful and the antioxidants and other nutrients in plants will negate the potential harmful effects of pesticides and chemicals. We say do your best and forget the rest! 😊🙌🏻

    • @angelahill7040
      @angelahill7040 7 лет назад +2

      The Kneady Homemaker can you grow a little mini garden of things you definitely use on a daily or weekly basis? that might help. I'm from Vegas, and we have tons of vegan ,organic grocery stores right down the street, but I want to make a little mini garden for myself to try to save a few dollars.

    • @thekneadyhomemaker1312
      @thekneadyhomemaker1312 7 лет назад +1

      Angela Hill I have a 30 x 50 foot garden and chickens, so that's not an issue. Certain organic items like grains and fruit that I can't grow just aren't available where I live. The closest (decent) organic grocery store is the Whole Foods in Lincoln, which is a 3 hour drive.

    This Video ist very great! This truly is a lifestyle and I also started just in Spring this year, waking up and thinking. How is it possible that I studied Fitness and Economy to not know exactly what exactly I eat and what's in it. There is such a bad thinking about especially guys in this case who are "not real man" if they don't eat a real steak or can't drink an alcohol. Why does the media and the education at school canteens and everywhere force us people to this things? Also I remember when I was younger, I never liked to eat at the school and the after school place because the carrots, übrigens. wouldn't even look like carrots because they were round... and also the consistency was so disgustingly soft... i just didn't eat that lunch and when I told my mom to tell them its crap and doednt taste good. They said that they will check themselves and it is normal, so they told me i I have never had cooked carrots before? And I was like yes i know steamed ones and fresh ones and maybe also little cooked ones in a soup but not so soft and awful from the taste... Tasted like anything really anything soft... disgusting. Well I hjope this system will change one day to better and especially teach people in school different subjects. Preferably "BodyScieene" I'd call it... that's dream to get the education to change there. But before I need to feel confident with having enoough knowledge to get to argument logically and truthfully. So this video was very inspiring! Looking forward to learn also more from you and your knowledge! Thank you a lot and keep going! All the best from me! :)

    Hi, just found your videos and really have enjoyed them very much!! On a side note, I'm 50 and feel better than whenI I was in my twenties. I have been on a plant-based diet for 5 years. significantly lowered my cholesterol level and digestive issues and feel amazing. I picked up running at the same time because of my new found energy and have won several medals in my age group. I don't push it on others but it's become even more difficult to see my loved ones especially my kids still eating the SAD. I cook for them, have introduced them to several videos but nothing resonates with them. It was a pretty easy transition for me, just made sense and I know you can't change everyone but it's still hard to see my kids eating this way :(

      Hey Jennifer! We're so glad you're enjoying our videos! We feel the same...it seems that the people you wish you could change the most are the most difficult ones to get through to. It's been difficult trying to convince our parents, but we also agree with you that pushing it on anyone is not the approach to take. Just continue to lead by example and continue to make good choices and they will begin to notice the good outcomes in you!

      KasSie LaYne Dusty here- Oh man what a bummer! I’m sorry it’s been that long and your still having issues! For me, it took about a year and a half for the heartburn to naturally fade away after I quit taking medication. For me, yes, ketchup, tomato sauce, some citrus, and onions DID and sometimes still do give me reflux. Honestly, I think those foods can give anyone reflux and that’s why they say to avoid them... Now however, after a few years vegan, even those foods don’t seem to bother me. For me it seems to be more about inflammation. So if I’m sick, or I’ve eaten a bunch a crap like chocolate and red wine it will act up! Erin and I are raw till 4 most days and that has really helped. OR like today, I ate some cooked leftovers for lunch but will be raw for the rest of the night. That really reduces inflammation for me! How are you sleeping?? Exercising regularly? Start the day with oil pulling, and then a huge glass of water to flush out your system. Do you do any fasting?

      EatMoveRest Thank you SO much for your reply! & I normally fast in the mornings (which is probably not the best thing?) I usually will have my first meal around noon (usually oats). & I also have coffee with almond milk creamer (also probably not the best thing at ALL) BUT~ I want to start with water and then a green juice as you both do because I feel I need to make my system more alkaline. I have the same juicer that you guys have and love it, but haven't used it in SO long. It is time:) I want to incorporate a raw lunch (salad) and do a light root dinner.. try this out for a while and see if this helps. Got all of these ideas from this channel, so I am very grateful!!! Thank you both for sharing this lifestyle. I agree those trigger foods would cause this in most people. I guess once your gut is healed and you are not acidic already it isn't such a match to the fire. I am looking forward to feeling better and not having to rely on the meds anymore. As you know, it is a MISERABLE feeling. I sleep well, I havent oil pulled in a long time but could easily start back. I would say my exercise is very moderate (I run after a 3 year old all day) but I haven't done any strength training or heavy cardio in a while. I feel I need more for sure.

      Yep! You need to lower that acidity. Coffee is a huge red flag, especially on an empty stomach. I always recommend for everyone to quit coffee for a number of reasons, but reflux is a big one! Oats are strike number two haha. Your digestion needs a flush in the mornings much like your legs need to "flush" lactic acid after "leg day" at the gym. I often follow up a sore leg day with some walking, short run, and a foam roller to rid my muscles of that lactic acid build up. Likewise, on an overnight and all morning fast, you need a flush. Right now, you are adding acidity to an already acidic environment that causes inflation, and reflux! Also, milks (even plant) are creamy and can make you mucusy lol... Not politically correct here but you get the idea. If you want to feel better, you need to change your routines! Start tomorrow with water first thing. Drink enough that your pee is almost clear. Then, eat fruit, or smoothie(s) until late afternoon or dinner. It may take a while, or it could only take a couple days for your reflux to dissipate and eventually disappear! All comes down to your level of commitment! Swap the coffee for a fruit heavy smoothie and get your energy from the glycogen in those healthy carbs (instead of addictive caffeine)! Good luck friend - hit us up again if you need help. We offer online coaching on eatmoverest.com, if you would like to face time or chat in person!

    Great video ... but wait til you see what happens when you stop eating bread. Bread is flour and water, which makes glue ... it clogs up all your organs. Amazing things happen when you go vegan AND stop eating bread, pasta, cookies, etc. It's hard to do, but worth it. Even if just for a few months ... to clear out years and years of accumulated stuff. Gives your body a chance to start working good again. :D

      I've been off the bread for a couple of years as well as pasta and baked goods and you are so totally right! The more raw fruit and veg, the better! :D

    Awesome video😀do you guys drink alcohol ever or did you give it up 100% as well??

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  7 лет назад

      Hi Jennifer! We rarely drink alcohol...saving it for special occasions like weddings and holidays, pretty much sticking to a glass of red wine when we do! I wouldn't be surprised if it just naturally gets phased out sooner than later, but not being too hard on ourselves in the process...we feel pretty darn good as is! ;)

    Are you guys vegan or plant based? What's the difference?? Please explain clearly.
    I see vegan and plant based.. Thanks for your time

      We are both! Vegan is more for ethical reasons (animal welfare). That being said, you can eat French fries and smoke cigarettes and call yourself a vegan lol. Plant-based means you eat whole foods as close to their natural state as possible (no processed junk food). It is more for health reasons. We started out just doing this for health reasons and soon learned about the ethical and environmental reasons for being vegan so we consider ourselves to be both vegan and plant-based!
