  • In this video, I downsize my retail booth while sharing eight of my top tips for staging and styling home decor: starting with a good foundation, creating a focal point, incorporating a variety of texture and materials, limiting your color palette, using the vertical space, maintaining a cohesive style, creating pyramids in odd numbers, and editing. Hopefully, these tips will be helpful whether you are decorating a room in your home or a retail/consignment space.

      My BIGGEST PROBLEM is styling my booth....I have a cabinet with locked glass and then a brick wall and they put up a peg board for me...but its very difficult to style it bc of the glass doors, but it nice to have them bc they lock...Ive had MANY small valuables or hand mades go "missing" bc unfortunately they cant be everywhere and people steal =/
      My FIRST biggest biggest issue is PRICING! I dont do rent, I coulnt afford it when my booth partner left, so LUCKILY for me, they do a percentage of my sales instead which I know they loose money but Im very lucky they let me stay. I am trying to get my sales up, but Im NEVER sure about how to price. Friends tell me Im a little too low, but if thats the case, why doesnt it sell....they have said if its too low, people think there is something wrong with it...if its too high, it sits for a while before it sells. I feel like I cant win, lol! Its very frustrating and most people that talk about booths and resell NEVER talk pricing and how they get their prices. There is actually only ONE YTer I know of that talks about pricing, what she paid and what she sells it for and even if she had to lower the price and that helps, but shes the only one I know of. I try to look around at other booths, but there are a lot of just antique dealers and other stuff isnt really the same as what I sell (which is more like the stuff you sell). Its hard to balance between time put in, price paid, and then the percentage that stays at the place.

      @@Em22-wtf ...I had a booth a few months back. I learned to take a picture each time I set it with new merchandise. Compared the picture to my monthly sales. That's how I knew what was sold and what was taken. We were on a computerized inventory.

      @@Em22-wtf So, here is what I have done. I walk around my store with a notebook and find things similar to what I sell and write down the prices. Also, I know which vendors are successful, so I pay special attention to their prices. I try to price my things in the middle range-not the lowest in the store but not the highest either. I think the appearance of your booth is just as important as pricing. Take pictures of your booth. Does it look attractive and cohesive to you? Several booths in my store look like a garage sale-they try to sell a little bit of everything and end up selling almost nothing. I didn’t talk about prices because I don’t think there is anyway to fairly compare my booth to a booth in a different store, different city, different state... I could mark my prices higher at other stores in the area, but my store is five minutes from my house, so I don’t mind lower my expectations a bit for the convenience. You are lucky to have free rent. I pay rent plus the owners take 8% of my sales, and I have to volunteer in the store five hours a month (or I’m charged $80). Try to tell a story with your booth displays. My “story” right now is spring and gardening. In the fall, I do a back to school/vintage library theme. Take out things that clearly don’t go with your theme and your selected colors. See if that helps!🤞

    • @CanterburyCottage
      @CanterburyCottage  3 года назад +3

      @@pattietorres6891 I get an email at the end of the day showing what sold. I used to take pictures every time I went to the store, but I stopped. It is so frustrating when things are missing, but the store owners do not reimburse me for stolen items, so I try not to fret about it. I also avoid selling small items (like jewelry) that are easy to shoplift. It is a little harder to shove a birdhouse in your purse!🤪

    Watching you style your booth and discussing how you make choices was a learning experience for me. As much as I'd like to have a booth, I doubt that I could keep up with the amount of work it entails. BUT there is one thing missing from this video and that is how you determine what to charge for each item and how much it will sell for. Sadly, that is often one area that isn't discussed by anyone selling their crafts. I'm sure many of us are curious to learn how to sell items they make.

    I just watched this video in May. I LOVED it. I just moved my computer from the living room to an unoccupied bedroom. I use my computer for Zoom calls with my WW leader and other WW members. Right now, I'm skipping today's WW because my room is not presentable. If money was not a factor, I'd love my background to look like those people on TV that have wonderful backgrounds. You know, grand ART, large bouquets, etc. But after replacing my gutters this winter, money is now tight. While watching your videos I got several ideas on how to improve my background. One idea is to find a way to display the jewelry I make. All the gals at WW know I make jewelry, so having it on display would just fit with what they know about me. I'm redecorating my house in the new grandmillennial style, which is sort of similar to your style. It must be because I loved everything in your booth. So if I don't do jewelry, I might do a bookcase for my background. And I will rerun this video as I decorate it.

    Wow…what you said is so true. So before you totally rearranged, I thought it looked cluttered cuz of the many colors used. Once you grouped several of the same colors together, took some items out, your final display definitely looked pleasing to the eye. So this tip will really help me when staging my booth. Plus, now understand about mixing styles. Like your table. Thanks so much for sharing! MOST helpful.

    The info in this video is valuable for a booth owner, those who participate in shows and homeowners. It was a brave choice to downsize and cut down on the pressure to keep the booth constantly stocked.

    My mom and daddy used to have a booth at our local peddlers mall and she had the knack for decorating it beautifully and it was quite profitable. They had to close it as their health declined, but people would always comment on how beautiful it was. :)
