I was at this show in 86….my band director in HS brought a bunch of us here to see what Drum Corp was - he marched SCV in the early 80’s. When I saw what happened at 3:23 my decision was made to try out in 87 for Velvet Knights and marched that year (my Junior year of HS)
This kind of energy in a performance will guarantee my spot at a show on the 50 in the blast section to hear up close and personal! Second best thing to being on the front side! No amp, synth’s, or speakers needed! I love these candid, more or less, performances that nobody ever would know that somebody would watch 34 years later. Thanks for posting. Thanks for letting everybody here the raw refined power, passion, beauty of these recordings! Thank you
the brilliant thing about this show is the opener and middle section are seamless, so you don't get a pause to catch your breath until 7 minutes into the show -- the show absolutely captures the listener and does not let them go -- possibly one of the greatest shows of all time.
I wrote drill in 85’ & 86’ for the Northernaires and I remember we were just getting out of the symmetrical forms in ‘84. There was still a bunch of it in this show. Great memories. 👍
They must have known at that point early in the season, they had a show for the ages, or least a show that will contend. Ill ask my client who marched soprano that season and report back.
No I just made it up one afternoon at a park just me and the center snare figured it out. It was loosely based on some thing that Kingsmen did a long long time ago in the back of my mind
Why was the pit soooo off twice early in the opener? Was this a tough stadium for listening? Uncharacteristic ensemble timing errors, even for early season. I’m guessing there may be been some environmental challenges at that location. Does anyone know?
I don't know (I wasn't there and didn't march in this corps), but it seems like in the mid-80s, even in Finals performances, ensemble timing issues cropped up more frequently than they have since. I'll speculate that asymmetrical drill, pulling the battery off the 50, created challenges that many corps had trouble solving.

5:11 one of the all-time great visuals from the snare line. Just awesome.
Rob Sirat special called: The Spyder!
Amazing
Insane tear early in the opener. Absolutely INSANE Ensemble recovery. Wow 00:44 - 00:57
Classic BD. THANK YOU for posting
Love hearing some early-season 1st tour bugs here and there, but man they already sounded like championship material.
This was one of the best DCI shows ever!

Hey Scott, go into the way back machine and see if you can find a full show for BD in '76. Thanks Cindy.
One of my all time favorite shows!
This is one of the first shows of the season....getting those North Drums ready for tour!!

And ...
Todd Peterson forgot to ask, lol I’ll ask when I talk to him again.
@@jeffe_77 and...? (I didn't start marching anywhere till 87 but I remember Rondinaro saying that BD lost only the first show of the year)
I was at this show, BD rules !!! VK close 2nd.
7:31 the announcer had lets say,a premature announcement of BD thinking show was over. lol
Who wouldn't?
one of my favorite performances. thank you so much for posting this.
Drum corps as it should be.
Does the snare line visual have a name? That's awesome stick work 😀
