    Thank you so much, I´ve got some help from an Dell Alienware technician and the R2 model and R4 model have a serious problem at the alignment of the copper board and all chipsets touched by the extra thermal tapes. He explained not only applying the paste solves the problem, also needs to remove and apply new thermal tapes, and check if it´s doing pressure over the chips... a lot of R2 and R4 are freezing with low temperatures, it´s due the thermal tapes not doing an effective pressure..
    Your video is helping a lot to make me brave enough to open it and apply the paste and termal tape.

    I just spent 30 of the most nerve racking minutes of my life. Just hit the power button and read the bios; 32gig of RAM confirmed!! I've opened many laptops over the years but opening my R2 is different. Firstly it was a little more valuable than past laptops. Secondly, It's durable design required a little more force to open the service portal. More forcd than I was used to and I was so afraid to break it.
    Then I didn't seat one of the 16 gig RAM pieces properly and panicked when I got to bios.
    Back to the service port.
    I opened her up again, seated the bottom piece correctly (an easy mistake to make.) and Woohoo!!! Success.
    Thanks heaps for the video.
    It makes one so much more confident servicing their laptop when There's a step by step break down.
    Now it's time to test my new RAM with ableton live suite 10 and a vast collection of midi devices!

    Very helpful video. Had the battery in my AW15 show as dead by the computer after only 16 months of ownership. I don't use the machine extensively while powered by the battery but have certainly run the battery down to near, if not full, discharge. Any ideas on what may be going on there? It's LiOn so I find it hard to believe it's dead after that short a period of time.

    • @OpenMeUpTec

      it is normal for batteries die. the best idea is if you are not using you battery disconnect the cable. from what you are saying it seems like you had your laptop plugged in all the time. Just having it plug in kills your battery.

    Hi there, I have a beginner question, I'm not good with the technical side of things. So the motherboard for my Alienware 15 fried during a power surge, and I'm about to send it to a vendor to get it replaced. Since I don't know the vendor, I don't want him to have access to my files on C drive and other drives I have on the laptop.
    So my question is, which components would I need to remove and keep with me that holds my C drive and D drive? My unit came with a 256GB m2.80 NGFF TLC SSD (1:24) + 1TB 5,400 HDD (1:42) , so I'm assuming all my personal data and files are in there?
    Thanks in advanced and great video, really helpful!

    • @OpenMeUpTec
      @OpenMeUpTec  8 лет назад

      both cpu and graphic card are soldered on now. since no one ever changes it wasting money making it removable but then no one use it. it is the same with phones original they had removable batteries and sd card slot but after researching they found out no one actually uses them. so making them non removable is not only easier it is cheaper as well.

    • @OpenMeUpTec
      @OpenMeUpTec  4 года назад

      yes it is soldered on. if you have the i7 6700 or the i7 7700 then it is soldered on

    Hi, I have the same model but i want to know how risky it is to open the computer by myself. The screen is broken but I already have the new part. I'm not sure if first i need to disassembly the entire computer or if I just need to disassembly the LCD panel.
    I try to remove the front panel of the LCD, but i saw that the alienware logo was attached to something but I didn't remove that connection. What are the steps to follow to remove the screen in this model? Thanks

    • @OpenMeUpTec
      @OpenMeUpTec  7 лет назад

      if you watched my video it shows you how to remove the screen from the base of the laptop which you will need to do. the logo is attach with double sided tape

  • @vmikel15vc
    @vmikel15vc 7 лет назад

    Hi there! Great video and well detailed. Although I may need to ask you regarding the LCD part. I have an AW15 R2, the 4k touchscreen version. The screen starts flickering the other day and it seems like screen cable connecter is somehow loose. Because there are times when I found the right angle of the laptop lid, the screen gets fixed for a couple of seconds. Anyway, dell is suggesting to replace the whole screen even if it is just the screen cable. I tested everything, the gpu, the touchscreen response, cpu etc and everything is working great. What do you think i should do?

    • @OpenMeUpTec
      @OpenMeUpTec  7 лет назад +2

      If it is free to replace the screen then do it. Many people will not attempt to open the LCD area as they are scared to. The fact you have the touch screen vision it make opening the screen area alot harder. It is normal for the cable to get loose if you have once open it up. If you have not done anything to it and it was originally working then I doubt the cable is loose. I do have many laptops where they sold it as faulty and it turns out the cable was just loose

    • @vmikel15vc
      @vmikel15vc 7 лет назад +1

      Well too bad my warranty is over already. So im just thinking of having the screen cable replaced or just be connected properly again instead of having the whole screen replaced. I just hate it when Dell is trying to milk me some money and their crazy customer support saying "the LCD is directly attached to the monitor" (exactly his words), i mean, how stupid is that right lol. Anyway im thinking of just bringing this to a 3rd party repair store, do you think it will be that hard to have just the screen cable replaced?

    Hi and thanks a lot for your very helpful tutorial :). I have a question for you if you don't mind: I've had this laptop for a couple of years and in the past few months, it started making a faint grinding noise, first occasionally then pretty often though not all the time then it stops when I play games and the fans spin faster. I'm not sure whether it's a fan doing this or the hard drive. Would you have any advice on how to find the culprit? That machine's always displayed high temperatures (over 60°c on idle and up to 92° or 94° when playing games, but I've never had any other issues so far). Many thanks in advance!

      It has an option to use the Intel cpu as a GPU for better battery life unplugged from the wall; if it's not too intensive gaming.

    is it possible to change the graphics card on this one? like from gtx970 to gtx 170 or 1080

    • @OpenMeUpTec
      @OpenMeUpTec  7 лет назад

      GPU is solder on. also to get a 1080 card for a laptop cost at least $1000AUD it ends up being cheaper to buy a laptop with it inside already

    • @Srrrgp
      @Srrrgp 7 лет назад

      1000 is like 600gbp - i think it's impossible for a new laptop with the latest stuff to be cheaper, but hey, if it's solder on then i guess i have no choice :(

      If you laptop is under warranty they come out to you and replace it completely free. They did this for me when my mother board went out. Came out next day and replaced it right in front of me. If you can’t get it done then it’s your own fault for not renewing your warranty or it breaking after the warranty was up.

    • @jatinagarwal17
      @jatinagarwal17 5 лет назад +1

      if its under accidental damage warranty, they will replace it if they can't fix it. they replaced my 2.5 years old laptop cause they didn't have the parts. they gave me a brand new machine!
