Both really. I like coins, especially old coins and if the value of silver increases significantly, I may make a tidy profit selling some of the ones in poor condition.
colstreamer .......... I remember using this type of money. I used to go and visit a nice old lady near Winchester in the 1970s. On one visit she gave me some old coins, some of them are silver coins, some I don’t know what they are.
marie-louise Deeley it depends on the condition. The value of the silver content is 7g times the current price per gram. So just under £2.50 at the moment.
Sorry, the half crown never was worth 5 shillings. The Crown was was worth 5 shillings. I have several of those. Half a crown was a good coin to have a pocketful of, especially on weekends. In the sixties, premium draught beer was 2 shillings and fivepence.
Very nice shame about the condition of the back of the half crowns and florins Check your king george the 5th half crowns the year that is rare is 1930 see if you can see the date I must have over 500 half crowns plus 5 shilling coins one crown The 1922 two shilling you had is very common I have 2 of those a nice coin you may wanna purchase is the 1935 crown and 1951 crown they will set you back about 65 pound but look out for fakes and re strikes the 1935 and 1951 crown is common with re strike copies hope I have been helpfull
The reason the coins are that smeared and smooth is because they've ben handeled like you handeled them while saying it, be more careful with this old coins... it's not like there's going to be made more 1800-1950s coins...
Skin contact doesn’t wear them down. They were worn down when they were being jingled in pockets or purses banging against each other and used in commerce.
Those coins are REALLY old and we’re at one time used as currency. They’re smooth because they’re old as fudge and worn (used). Imagine how many people used them before I got them!
Nice silver UK coins collection
Thanks!
Nice Coins !!
Nice collection

I enjoyed the video, and could easily hear you. I was using headphones. I have a number of the same coins.
Whats the passion for collecting old silver coins ? Hobby or because they are worth more money ?

Did you say a half crown was worth a quarter of a pound or that some people were mistaken and thought that?
Paul Nicholls it used to be 5 shillings, which was a quarter of a pound.
Crown = 5 Shilling= 4 to a pound. Half Crown is 2\6 = 8 to a pound.
