Seattle’s Best (and Only) Teriyaki, Doughnut, AND Laundry Spot - Dining on a Dime

- This week on Dining on a Dime, host Lucas Peterson and crew travel to a mash-up restaurant for the ages: King Donut, which features, in addition to its eponymous pastry, really great teriyaki chicken and a self-service laundromat. After decades as a local favorite in Seattle’s Rainier Valley neighborhood, owners and sisters Davie and Chana Hay are closing the shop, but not before Peterson can sample their menu (and wash his pants).

Rocking the hell out of that watermelon shirt
o you know I rock dat watermelon shirt
I want one..
Hands down favourite episode of Dining on a Dime.
the owners were awesome and funny, and lucas' way of describing food is really direct and simple, plus he's hilarious too
3:19 "he asked me on a date once"
hell, I would too. she's cute.
I like how she put the older brotha on blast too.
Dining on a Dime needs its own channel
Or at least a channel with everything hosted by Lucas
Exactly
@Club Soda yet the host is what the majority watch? hes the entertainment?
Lucas getting too comfortable with us, rocking a shirt like that! LOL He should've washed that watermelon shirt to make it seedless.
Whaddap y'all -- SOMEONE BUY THIS PLACE. If it's not already on the national registry of historic places, it should be. It''s shutting down soon, but maybe it will have a second life? Love you guys. One more ep in Seattle before we start our next season. Follow me on Instagram @staletwizzlers and Twitter @lucaspeterson for hints to our next locations.... XXoxooxoxoxXOXOXOXO Love u as always and #savekingdonuts
Today was our last day :( Great episode! Thank you for featuring us!
WHAT? LAST DAY? F***
I really enjoyed this episode! I love your laugh! btw, will you guys open another place?
You were all so amazing! Our crew haven't had such a great time, and laugh, than we had with you and Channa!
Sorry to hear you are closing, hopefully your family can find a way to open in a new area. Best wishes and loved the humor and kindness.
Lucas, you're the only reason I am subscribed to Eater. Love from Pakistan.
thank you my friend!
Lucas Peterson i wish you'd visit philippines and try doing an all filipino cuisine strings of episodes. like what you did on Hawaii. :) you're the best!
agreed man! Go to PH Lucas!
I wish more places like this existed. I hate corporate chain businesses. Please go to this place and support their family run business.
"Do you need to wash your draws?" Always love that pronunciation. 😂 Davie is so cool. Great episode.
2021 Update: King Donuts is still open!
You can look it up on Google maps if you are curious 👍
Davie!! That's my homegirl!!! Love her spirit! A Win for the Cambodians
Easily one of the best, if not THE best episode so far 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I've been binge-watching the shit out of these
It's gonna be a sad day when I can't get my laundry, teriyaki, donuts and smokes all at the same place
so much chemistry between Lucas and the owner :-P my fav episode of DoaD so far!
Lucas is genuinely hilarious, the lady owner too and what a great move to end the video Lucas, its lollllllllll
"He asked me out before". That lady put the old guy on blast. Haha.
She lit AF! Obviously some recreational use.
Probably my favorite ep. so far
Lucas is Love, Lucas is Life.
The most surreal episode of dining on a dime I've ever watched! Love it!
You know, this is the type of place that I think is perfect for a profile. The big thing to me is that it's teriyaki, which is sort of a thing in Seattle. Like if you go around Seattle, there is a teriyaki place at every other block. It's simply the local fast food and I haven't seen it anywhere else in the country the way it's done in Seattle. California has a couple places but it's not the same because for some reason out there, there's no char on their teriyaki chicken (because ya know, bbq char is a class 2b carcinogen). People come here from the midwest and south, try teriyaki and the reaction is always "Oh my god, I can eat this every day!" Anyway, great episode!
Michael yeah! Seattle is really the teriyaki capital of the US
Lucas Peterson, you're one of the single most sympathetic people I've ever seen on RUclips or TV. You seem like a really awesome dude. Keep doing what you do man.
Haha, the food looks positively awful, but I'd go everyday just to hang out with Davie. She seems really cool.
Lucas: Love that watermelon t-shirt! Where'd you get it?
what looks awful about it? its chicken, teriyaki sauce and rice
Seanatello Haha, I'm Japanese, so I know real teriyaki. Sorry, it was not intended as an insult to them.
this is real authentic Seattle style teriyaki thoughj
ro pro but real doesn't mean better, necessarily.
Ryan Du Well... to each his own, I guess
She seems like she has a phenomenal sense of humour
I rarely comment on these videos but Lucas you are a great host. Enjoy all your episodes. Much appreciation from Tokyo.
Keep doing the good work that you do, Lucas. You are a national treasure and the world needs more of whatever you decide to do! :D
Cambodian ladies own the best donut shop!!!
Finally. A authentic, non hipster place in Seattle.
this is the cutest and happiest I've seen Lucas! More of this please! So adorable :3
beautiful personality Davie
The co-owner behind the register is hilarious!!!! And who would have thought we'd see Lucas in his underwear on Dining on a Dime! lol
Haha Lucas I saw you in Westworld! Well done!
he's in westworld! seriously! all episodes?
episode 2.
I KNEW IT!!!
I knew it. I bid you Peace.
I think he just met his wife.
Great episode Lucas! the last shot with the box of doughnuts in your underwear, classic! Lol Also, Davie is great, love her personality! "Anything else?? some cigarettes? swishers? You need to wash ya drawers??? hilarious! lol!!!
I have lived in Seattle my whole life, and when i saw on the news that the owners (her mom and & dad) were robbed and beaten almost to death in their restaurant when they closed maybe a year ago. I wanted to run around with a bat and find whoever did it. I am still pissed about it.
Johnny Liu Wow that's horrible🙁
Johnny Liu dang thats terrible.
bastards
I'm sure if the reward was put out, someone will come forward. These scumbag live to rob hardworking people who barely make it.
Johnny Liu seriously man. I love close by and it sucks ):
This was a really entertaining episode of Dining on a Dime :D
I LOVE the owner! She's so adorable!!
Merry Christmas Lucas!
such a shame if this fine joint closes, the fine lady owners are such characters , the food looks great and the overall nature of the place feels like a neighbourhood stable ....hope someone does something to keep it running down the line.
What?! I’ve lived in Seattle my whole life, 30 years, and I’ve never heard of this place til now! And it sounds like I’m 2 years too late :(
Hey Lucas, I keep coming back to this episode. Sometimes I just wanna see it. You and Davie have great chemistry! It would be great to see a show where the two of you hang out and go to cool and unusual places. Sort of a "b-side" to your solo gig on Eater. Yes you guys are that good together! Maybe once or trice/month you guys could hook up and check out some cool joints. Looking forward to the new show.....'Hangin' out with Lucas & Davie'!
Lucas ! Your Love is watching from Mongolia !!! ❤️❤️❤️
Davie seems like an amazing lady :) hope they can stay open!

I LOVED this episode...Gabby kept it real!!! Don't try and play Lucas! 😄😄
OMG King Donut. so much history. I remember coming in here when I was like 15 - 16 years old. If I remember correctly, there use to be a fish & chip restaurant.
Hook Line and Sinker.
Sarcasm was definitely served up daily there! Fun place. They made their millions, and are moving on, I guess.
Tuesday is Lucas day ❤️❤️
Did anyone notice Lucas went to wash his pants? HAHAHA
THIS WOMAN IS AMAZING
best episode. So funny!
Davie is an absolute gem! I want to meet her 😂
nothing better than seeing lucas without pants
Anyone else think Lucas and that owner were real flirty?
are you suggesting lucas should tap her doughnut?
@@Norre Her girlfriend donut *wink*
this guy is seriously funny. ideal host!!!
Love your shirt!
the cashier is really cute
This was the most entertaining Dining on a Dime, by far. I could not stop laughing...until the end when Lucas lost his pants and I was all, "Ooohhhh....Wowie! YES!!!!" Methinks Lucas should do the next episode with one less article of clothing and he should keep on going until he's as nekkid as that girlfriend donut (although his shirts always crack me up and I'd miss them...but I'm willing to make that sacrifice for the sake of getting Lucas in his birthday suit). Wait, did I just say that out loud? I have no shame. LOL
you actually wash your pants on that laundromat ^_^ triple score!
Lucas and that chick had something going on! Spicy.
Davie is FIIIINE.
Awww gonna miss this place. My fam has bought donuts here since as long as I remember. My first donut came from here!
best ep and best shirt
She's funny!
Hahahahaha Lucas and his boxpants😂😂😂 level of hotness beyond this world
I wish we had weird businesses like this in California
OCSleazy there's a teriyaki/burger/donut place on Beach and Orangethorpe in Buenas Park. There is also a donut/teriyaki place in Anaheim and Fountain Valley, in Orange County.
OCSleazy In Pomona, theres a Donut, Chinese Food, and Fried Chicken spot thats open 24hrs
There's a really good sandwich/coffee shop/laundromat in Daly City called Sam’s Sandwiches & Coffee!
EvoIII Yeah, but that place sucks lmao. Not the same.

The vegina donut 😂
hahaha! this is my favorite episode.
It use to be a bar hook line and sinker within the same lot sweet memories 😀
Pantsless Lucas! My eyes!
When I was a kid, I'd spend a lot of time in the laundromat near my home because it was the only place with pinball machines and cool candy bars vending machines around. This place feels like the grown up version of my laundromat memories. Sad I won't get to know it.
Would love to eat at that place!!!!
