I dont know what i find more disturbing: the fact that he actually took TWO bites of that small piece of chocolate, or the fact that he didnt even eat it up
With the performance uplift seen in AC valhalla, which was developed with AMD's support, it seems like this feature is really going to start shining once game developers actually make use of it by implementing it correctly.
Would be interesting to see if it comes to the 1080 Ti. They're actually priced a lot better used right now since they apparently suck at mining ethereum now (something to do with TLB or caching) and they game great.
Why not also try intel on Nvidia? Less incentive to only optimize with their drivers/hardware for their own GPU, since they don't make dGPUs (yet). I'd be really curious if the relative scaling changes with them. Edit: And before anyone mentions it, I know they only did Ryzen here to show the difference between the RX and RTX gpus, since afaik you can't do SAM with RX gpus on intel.
@@vanilla4064 8th and 9th gen Intel processors also support it, as long as the mobo's manufacturer added support for it (Gigabyte for example added it on my Z390 Pro in january). @@funnyepic7054 They probably left it out as AMD was the one laying claims on it with it being a selling point. That and it helps to cut down on the amount of data they would need to show. I'm sure in the future we will get a follow up video comparing the performance of the two companies head to head on it.
I think all the Tech Tubers should group together and tell people not to buy GPUs, This is ridiculous, people keep bulk buying this stuff that's at 3x MSRP. Companies are looking at this and thinking why drop the price if people are willing to pay this much... This needs to stop..
I tried to download ram and now it says all your files are encrypted pay 300$ to unlock them. IS this because I downloaded windows 7 ram on Windows 10 pc?
Man I wish there were some other titles for comparison that, some with optimization issues or ones flagshipped by one of the teams. I'm thinking about Cyperpunk or Valheim. I'd really like to see those numbers in your testing methods since resizable BAR seems to have been detrimental to my experiences so far
These videos are so hard to find, would it hurt some YT algorithmic nonsense if you've just put "resizable bar" at the end of the title after a few days?
Aaand they end up downloading a bios which can contain pretty much anything and no way of knowing what. Retail items have legal terms protecting the companies and consumers, but that does not extend to bios updates which user does.
I understand the reasoning for using relative numbers, i still think it is flawed when using it in this context. Since (as i remember) Nvidia has higher absolute framerates out of the box, this means they have to pull higher absolute gains to have the same relative improvement. I think it would be fine in a purely Nvidia or purely AMD focused video. But since this is clearly a comparison between the two companies' implementation, at least mention or show the absolute gains to make sure this bias is understood by the viewer. I don't have the absolute numbers in memory, as probably most others here. So this video gives the impression AMD has a slight edge, while at least i am not sure Nvidia does not has the same absolute gains. So please, watch out for this kind of methodical biases and shortfalls. Other than that, really interesting topic and overall balanced and fair comparison. At least with LTT i don't have the feeling such a thing is not intentional to make one or the other look better :)
What this doesn't say, but still needs to be known: If you have Zen 1,2 or 3 architecture, BAR works. If you don't own a nvidia Founder edition, you will most likely need to update your vBios, most likely update your motherboard's BIOS too to acknowledge BAR capability. THEN after having the most recent Nvidia driver, your resizable BAR will work. it took me 3 days to figure all that out. CPU: R7 3700X GPU: MSI 3080 Ventus OC MB: Asus TUF B450M Gaming-plus
Based on the AC valhalla result, I think it's just that newer games might be better optimized for this utilization, kinda like how we'll be able to saturate pcie 4 in like 5 years
In case anyone's wondering how the chocolate trick works: If you look carefully at the segments of chocolate that were sliced diagonally, you'll see that after they're rearranged they are all a bit narrower than the rest of the segments. That's where the "magic extra piece of chocolate" came from.

Well, I got resizable bar on my vega 64...
Cries in Intel 9th gen CPU
I dont know what i find more disturbing: the fact that he actually took TWO bites of that small piece of chocolate, or the fact that he didnt even eat it up
He looked very uncomfortable eating those tiny bites also, like he really didn't like it.
I'm confused how turning resizable bar on could cause performance to be worse than stock in some of these...
hey vsauce, linus here
the banach-tarski paradox :)
Exactly!
GirlAsianWed.Men
With the performance uplift seen in AC valhalla, which was developed with AMD's support, it seems like this feature is really going to start shining once game developers actually make use of it by implementing it correctly.

Linus: I don’t use clickbait
Also Linus:
Ahh we got to an era where intel processors aren't even on benchmarks
I dont think they support resizeable bar

@@funnyepic7054 Latest firmware for my X299 has options for it.
@@funnyepic7054 10th & 11th gen Intel processors support resizable bar.
@@vanilla4064 8th and 9th gen Intel processors also support it, as long as the mobo's manufacturer added support for it (Gigabyte for example added it on my Z390 Pro in january).
But it's definetly worth giving the mobo a check before since there are some boards/manufacturers that only support 10th and 11th gen.
@@funnyepic7054 They probably left it out as AMD was the one laying claims on it with it being a selling point. That and it helps to cut down on the amount of data they would need to show. I'm sure in the future we will get a follow up video comparing the performance of the two companies head to head on it.
Linus that intro was really good
linus should use his influence to have nvidia enable BAR on 2000 cards.
No.
+1 for enabling support for previous gen products. At least RTX 20 and GTX 10 series.
900 series to pls xd. I'm still running an now ancient Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 2GB mini... Send help
I think all the Tech Tubers should group together and tell people not to buy GPUs, This is ridiculous, people keep bulk buying this stuff that's at 3x MSRP. Companies are looking at this and thinking why drop the price if people are willing to pay this much... This needs to stop..

They're already out, just out of stock cause of global chip shortage. It's really hard to get them now

Man I wish there were some other titles for comparison that, some with optimization issues or ones flagshipped by one of the teams. I'm thinking about Cyperpunk or Valheim. Where is the Code 43 error fix video? 9:40
After seeing the title, I thought that Linus wants to continue the April fool series.
But then I watched the video ... Nice ! 😊

Has Linus put out another bounty without telling Yvonne?
How can i see in the game where i forced Resizeable BAR if it is really working?
Based on the AC valhalla result, I think it's just that newer games might be better optimized for this utilization, kinda like how we'll be able to saturate pcie 4 in like 5 years
Mhmm but valhalla is a game where a 5800 can beat a 3090, so you really can’t use it to represent the newer generation games.
In case anyone's wondering how the chocolate trick works: If you look carefully at the segments of chocolate that were sliced diagonally, you'll see that after they're rearranged they are all a bit narrower than the rest of the segments. That's where the "magic extra piece of chocolate" came from.
It's triggering me how inconsistent some of those graph bars are, lots with the same percentage but different length bars!! Who put this together?
