    Just finished doing mine...same model. A few changes I made: I unscrewed the bottom part of the bracket for the battery. This meant placing it back in was really easy. I tested it first (as you did) and then when it was working i placed the battery in, lifted it, peeled the tape and positioned it again (without disconnecting the battery from the board, but while the battery was turned off from a power source after initial testing). Then all I had to do was screw a few screws in to get the bracket back in place. Then put the cover back on. I also used doubled up dental floss to remove the batteries. This worked well. I fought with getting the adhesive off (I used a sharp razor as well- carefully) but after googling a bit I saw that rubbing alcohol was recommended. I had some swabs from our first aid kit. The alcohol basically moves the adhesive around so you can get it into a pile and then pick it up with your fingers, or lift it with the spurge tool (I have a thin metal one that worked well). The directions that came with the battery involved about 20 steps and much disconnecting of other components, so I followed yours keeping an eye on theirs. Yours worked great, with my few modifications. Currently getting the battery fully charged. Thanks so much for the video.

    Great video. Very helpful. I followed your procedure with only the following variations: 1) I didn't have any good string so I used fishing line, which worked well at cutting through the adhesive, though some folks may find it tricky if they aren't used to tying loop nots with fishing line.
    2) once I got both the smaller batteries loose on each side with the fishing line, I simply used a brownie spatula to work loose the two big ones in the middle. That worked awesome. Much quicker.
    3) I cleaned up the last of the residue with some cotton swabs dipped in 'Oops!' tar/glue remover (which is basically acetone.). Be very careful not to get this stuff on any plastic parts of the computer.

    Thanks! In case, like me, your specific model has a ribbon cable running across the center of the battery, just remove the two torx on the shield at the center of the laptop at one end of the ribbon cable, remove the shield, pry the connector under the shield (a fingernail will do). Chances are that the ribbon cable is glued to the battery, carefully (very) insert a razor blade between the ribbon cable and the battery, lifting gradually the cable, and pushing hard on the blade with two fingers towards the battery so that the blade does not cut the ribbon. Moving the blade gradually towards the other end of the cable, it will then be unglued fully, and the operations can begin.

    • @YungYaw
      @YungYaw  6 лет назад +1

      You mean one of the six cells of your old battery is inflated? If you see in my video, all six of the cells are inflated. If you have removed all the adhesive, I think you can go ahead and replace the battery. Just be careful not to cause any puncture to any of the cells and do not cause any short of the terminals. But if you do not have enough confidence to proceed, maybe you should send to professional service centre. I can only give advice based on your comment and I do not know your actual situation, it's very hard for me to give definite advice.

      I think i will go with the same type of battery you bought for you mac.

      Actually i noticed the Apple batteries are not good quality components compared to other brands. Its pretty common macs arround 2013 the battery inflate no matter what you do. My original battery have 130 cicles in 6 years with 93% of the original capacity.
      So why buy genuine ( 600€) expensive if the quality is probably the same as fake batteries.
      I will not buy nothing more from Apple. I've to pay 930€ to fix the screen issue but what is causing this was the battery expansion. Now Apple ask me to pay more 600€ for finally fix my issues on a $2600 mac.
      Xiaomi Notebook Pro with OSX or just DIY a hackintoch it's my recommendation if your money is hard to earn like me.

      @@MrJoaoMsousa Yup, there are many OEM/3rd party battery manufacturers out there. Some produce low quality products, some the quality actually quite good. I guess it depends on the Li-ion cells they use. The electronic part of the battery pack usually refurbished Apple parts for ID and power management. Since there are so many 3rd party products out there, I recommend you buy from reputable websites and read product reviews from customers. @@YungYaw i tried it out and the glue was like on a lot harder than i thought! an old card i had worked a lot better but it was completely destroyed by the time the last cell came off. if you’re gonna be dealing with that glue a lot it seems like buying the adhesive remover will save u a ton of time but it was my sisters mac so i didn’t mind sacrificing one card to do it

      Hi, I bought it from a local seller in my country.

    Why bother to glue it back in at all? why not just leave the backing on the sticky back plastic so next time it is easier to change?

    • @YungYaw

      Since it's a laptop, there will be occasions where you will be carrying it around. If the cells are not mounted to the chassis, the battery might be sliding around when you are carrying it. Anyway, it's actually not that hard to remove the adhesive of the battery.

      Ive changed my battery (just) but it now says "Condition: Replace Battery" and Charge remains at 0% any ideas why?

    • @YungYaw
      @YungYaw  6 лет назад

      That's strange. I found the following suggestion online:
      Have you already tried resetting the SMC and the PRAM?
      Remove the battery, and keep the power button pressed for ten seconds. Reattach battery and cable, and test your machine.
      If it still doesn't work, reboot keeping Control+Option+P+R pressed until you feel two boot chime songs. Leave them be and test again.

      Yea tried that but nothing, Ive now removed the battery and put the old one back in

    • @YungYaw

      I see. Were you able to put in any charge to the replacement battery? Maybe you need to contact the seller of the battery. Sorry can't help much.

    Tip: Use leather gloves and teeth flossing string next time!

      I think for these 3rd party batteries, they reuse the electronics and chips from used original battery. So maybe they didn't reset the battery life count.

    So... no adhesive remover? I like that. Wonder if a strong dental floss would do a better job?

    • @YungYaw
      @YungYaw  4 года назад

      I was trying to avoid too much liquid. I'm not sure how strong is dental floss, but I guess you might try to use multiple strands of dental floss.

  • @drs-Rigo-Reus

    Use dental floss as saw, it is thin and very strong!

    They glued the battery so hard that you can't remove it. They designed a mechanism that the battery will eventually swell. They make sure that when the battery swell, as expected, your device will be destroyed.

    So stupid how Apple decided to use adhesive instead of simple screws. Just a way for them to somehow make more money on repairs, parts.

      Hi, do you mind to enlighten me what I've missed that I should do to avoid damaging the laptop? I have to agree with you that my method is not the proper recommended method from Apple or any authorized service centre. I learned the method I used from RUclips videos too. I try to avoid using liquid adhesive remover. At least my method works for me.
