There was never a doubt, MVP beyond question. Ohtani was MVP of the entire sport. It was so historic and transcendent, the season he had, that it's still in the category of unreal--a dream we had but never woke up from.
@@surfwriter8461 Lol you’ve got to relax, brother. Take a look at the first guy’s name, then look at my channel’s playlists. I’m a huge Ohtani fan, btw. No one deserved MVP but him.
What a season. I will admit havent watched MLB since 80s. This young man caught the worlds attention and did things unimaginable and with class and humility. What a human being!
FIELD OF DREAMS Shohei Ohtani just crafted what many believe to be the greatest individual season ever played on the field of dreams. Arguably only Babe Ruth’s 1919 season rises to the level of what Ohtani accomplished this year in a game which is far more evolved today than it was a century ago. Baseball more than any other sport is about numbers so let’s take a deep dive into Shohei’s 2021 numbers: On the mound, Shohei tossed 130.1 innings over 23 starts, finishing the season with a 9-2 record, a 3.18 ERA, a 1.090 WHIP, a 141 ERA+ and 156 strikes outs to 44 walks. In the second half of the season, Shohei upped his pitching game to the tune of a 2.84 ERA and a 69/9 strikeouts-to-walks ratio over 63.1 innings. Shohei has five solid pitches at his disposal, including a fastball which tops out at over 100 MPH and a splitter which was the hardest pitch to hit in the majors this year (.087 batting average against and a 48.5% whiff rate) At the plate, Shohei smacked 26 doubles, a league-leading 8 triples and 46 home runs to go along with 103 runs, 100 RBI and a 158 OPS+. And for good measure, Shohei swiped 26 bases. Can you imagine what these numbers would have looked like had Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon been in the lineup providing protection for Shohei all season long? We’d be looking at 50+ home runs, 125+ runs, 125+ RBI and an OPS well north of 1.000. Other Shohei fun facts and firsts include: * At 6’4” he is as tall as the average NBA shooting guard * His 21 MPH sprint speed makes him as fast the NFL’s Lamar Jackson * His 28.8 feet-per-second sprint speed ranks him in the 92nd percentile of all major league players * His combined plate appearances as a pitcher and hitter totaled 1172 * Ranked in the top ten in the AL in runs, home runs, OBP, SLG, OPS, walks, triples, extra-base hits, total bases and stolen bases * Hit as many home runs at the plate as earned runs allowed on the mound * Led the majors in Baseball-Reference WAR (9.0) and FanGraphs WAR (8.1) * Led the majors in Win Probability Added (WPA) and Run Expectancy Wins (REW), the two stats which measure clutch performance * Led the AL with a 1.555 OPS with runners in scoring position * Led the majors in barrel rate (minimum 250 balls in play) and finished in the 97th percentile or higher in average exit velocity, max exit velocity, hard-hit rate and walk rate * Lead the majors with 24 home runs with an exit velocity of 110+ mph * One of only two players in major league history (along with Willie Mays) with 45+ home runs, 20+ stolen bases and 6+ triples in the same season * First player in MLB history to make multiple pitching starts and lead the league in home runs at any point in the same season since Babe Ruth * First player in MLB history to throw 10+ pitches of 100 mph and hit 10+ home runs with an exit velocity of 110 mph in the same season * First player in MLB history to record 10 home runs and 100 strike outs in the same season * First player in MLB history with 10 pitching appearances and 20+ stolen bases in the same season * First player in MLB history to be selected to the all-star game as a pitcher and a hitter * Named Angels’ MVP and Best Pitcher * Won the Espy for Best MLB Player * Named MLBPA’s Player of the Year * Won the Commissioner’s Award (last awarded in 2014) * Selected as Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of the year Shohei is an elite pitcher, hitter and runner in an age of specialization but that is not why Shohei is the AL MVP. Shohei is the most valuable player in all of baseball because he is a unicorn doing unicorn things in a world in which unicorns exist only in the imagination of a child. I give you Shohei Ohtani, 2021 American League MVP, and it ain’t even close 👏👏👏
He deserved the unanimous vote for the insane season he had! So unreal and there's a charismatic special & warm vibe around him...when you see him you immediately notice that you are in the presence of wonderful greatness. Definitely one of a kind….very special one. I feel it’s been a privilege to witness this phenom in our lifetime.
AND........ Along with what was accomplished on the field.... He was the Most Humble Player with Outstanding Class on and off the Field!!!👊👊👊 Shohei Ohtani TRULY THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER OF THE CENTURY!!!👊
He not only excels in everything in the game, but also excels in the behavior and manner. He can energize his teammates, he can make others love him because of respectful gesture. He is the MVP of baseball but he also deserves the MVP as a sportsmanship.
Shohei Ohtani was Baseball for me this season. Look forward to see where he goes from here. Let's hope the Angels can utilize him to his max potential.
Ok I'm very much a small-hall guy, but if Shohei Ohtani has 2 more seasons of doing what he just did, even if he RETIRES after that, put that guy in the Hall of Fame. 3 straight seasons of ridiculous numbers on both sides of the ball and undoubtedly winning 3 consecutive MVPs means you can't tell the story of baseball without talking about Shohei Ohtani.
Outstanding and powerful MVP Player who played wonderful offense and defense. His sportsmanship and talent inspired and invigorated major league baseball and sports. As the absolute best, he is an icon, legend and titan in baseball and sports. He established the highest bar and standard which will continue to attract more interest in baseball in the world. Baseball will continue to be a major sport of the greatest attraction.
i don't think the voters will give Ohtani a back to back MVP; he's going to have to prove, he's the best in both domains...and that is impossible. Ohtani has to become smarter, which is also impossible. to become smarter, he's going to have to practice meditation; learn to relax on cue - doing so will allow him to access higher intelligence functions, particularly combining the intuitive with the known (memories)...staying relaxed & attentive is an incredible combination...particularly, as the ball travels into and out-of the strike zone, whether pitching or hitting. i also think they should rotate him from one season to the next, as starter & reliever. the purpose is balance. if he's going at it full-steam, his body will break-down too fast, and, he won't be able to recuperate; mind & body. the mind needs confidence & security, the body needs rest and recuperation...on the years he's a relief pitcher, they should put him into the outfield - where his long, fast strides are most important, as is his arm...plus, his mind needs to wander...into those areas that need improvement. playing stress-hard, the mind isn't allowed to relax enough, to make important distinctions on areas for improvement... right now, Ohtani solidly believes his best chances for improvement lie in strength conditioning alone...this is enough for a power-player...but as a true craft, he requires having the expertise of the best players to mentor, and assist in development - and make adjustments himself.
Bueno , yo soy dominicano , pero lo cierto es que un pitcher con buen swing, no se veía desde hace siglos...¿No? Well, I’m Dominican, but the truth is that a pitcher with a good swing, it hasn’t been seen for centuries

Also: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on Shohei Ohtani: “He is a great ball player, great human being, very humble. He is a phenom. I think he is some kind of experiment sent to earth to see if it will work, and it’s working.”
@@JohnSmith-er5ys Fact #1: Guerrero put much better numbers than Ohtani, except in stomen bases. Fact #2: More than 30 pitchers had better stats than Ohtani in 2021. He just happened to do two things. He was just an "attraction", a novelty.
Garbage. He didn’t have the hitters numbers nor pitching to become a league MVP? He’s more like team MVP. Just cause managers refuse to have pitchers hit full time doesn’t constitute a phenomenal. Babe Ruth pitched and won the home run crown and wasn’t even mentioned as an MVP. Is more of a fan fanfare and likeable MVP. Like this neVer happened. It’s the baseball teams fault for not having things like this happen more often. He’s a great player of course.
You don't seem to realize how difficult to do both. Walsh, 1B man, his team mate at Angels, tried but he had to give up because it became impossible to train for both (his words).
