      Thank you. These are not all mine. The big machines belong to an old carpenter who lets me use them (he appears on some videos helping me). These machines are like 100 years kld, but man they are awesome!

    wenge is by no means the same thing as african blackwood. Blackwood is actually a type of rosewood. SInce you use the wood database here is the link. www.wood-database.com/african-blackwood/

      Thanks for flagging this - I learned something new. I fixed all video titles and descriptions to reflect that. Now I will have to try and buy African Blackwood :D

    Hello
    Nice video with a very nice result.
    I am about to renovate a 50's Wenge dining table. Before viewing this video i have been advised to use Rubio Moncoat as well. I would go for the Monocoat 2C Pure or White 5% just to avoid it being too dark. What is your opinion on this?
    Any other advice?
    This is the table:
    Thanks in advance

      Hi Jan. Unfortunately, the link was not included. You can send it to me through Instagram or my Etsy store.
      I would clearly go for Rubio Monocoat pure, not White. The white will latch onto the fine Wenge grain and make ut look like “freckles”.
      I would also add the N3 coating after Rubio, see here: ruclips.net/video/bRtFm3N4syA/видео.htmlsi=91MnwTRlw5sXXh0X

    Tolles und edles Holz, gelungene Umsetzung. Eine Frage zur Verarbeitung von Wenge. Ist Wachs eine ausreichende Oberflächenbehandlung gegen Vergrauen durch UV-Licht bzw. was wäre der richtige Schutz (Öl oder Wachs) und welcher Klebstoff ist für eine stabile Verleimung nötig. Holzleim D3 - D4 oder eher Epoxidharz?

      Hallo F.S. Danke für die netten Worte. Ich habe Wachs nicht ausprobiert, würde es dir aber nicht empfehlen. Das Holz hat komische (relativ grosse) Poren und Risse, und ich fürchte dass das Wachs diese evtl. "verstopft". Ich würde dir auf jeden Fall Rubio Monocoat empfehlen (zwei Mal auftragen). Das schützt gut vor vergrauen, macht keine Streifen und schützt auch gut vor Flüssigkeiten. Bezüglich Leim habe ich D3 Holzleim verwendet, und das ging wunderbar. Harz geht sicher auch, aber ist nicht nötig. Links zu Rubio und Leim findest du in der Video Beschreibung. Viel Spass beim Bauen!

    Nice job... Can you apply polyurethane to Wenge? Does Wenge smell when finished? Thanks

    • @Woodensoul
      @Woodensoul  2 года назад +2

      Thanks 😊 I have never applied poly to wenge, but I would assume it’s possible. Wenge doesn’t smell when finished, but you should wear a mask when sanding or sawing, as it’s dust is pretty toxic

    how did you adress the problem of the litle holes in the wenge to get a flat surface ?

    • @Woodensoul
      @Woodensoul  3 года назад +1

      Hey. You mean the wood grain which has small micro holes? I sanded patiently up to 240 grit, and the remaining holes are part of the aesthetics...

      What kind of holes? Like cracks? Wormholes? Usually Wenge is pretty solid...

    I have a dining table of Wenge and after about 15 years she needs a little love - she’s been well used by our family. Any advice?

      Hi Alison. Congrats on having a Wenge table, that's wonderful! To answer your question, I need a little more information. How is your table treated, that is what coating do you have right now? Can you provide me a picture? You can either upload it to a site and paste the link here, or you can look up my email and send it to me. The email is listed in my channel, under "channel info" (you have to access it on a desktop computer, not mobile phone, else it's not shown).

    Great job! How did you buy such a big slab of wood? I use www.woodworkerssource.com to order my wood and they don't sell oversized slabs. What do you recommend as a good wood source and how much money did your slab cost? thanks

    • @Woodensoul
      @Woodensoul  4 года назад

      Thank you. For slabs that big you usually have to go to local lumber stores that sell big slabs. Most online stores don’t go that big, though I have seen large slabs on ebay.com. I live in Europe, so I buy at a store called espen.de, but that won‘t work if you are in the US. On pricing, Wenge is pretty expensive. The cubic meter is around 4000$, so that slab must have been a couple 100 USD (can‘t remeber exactly).

    Not to be pedantic, but African Blackwood and Wenge are not the same species.
    Although African Splinter Wood and Wenge are. 😆

      Yeah, I learned that in the meantime. And African Blackwood is awfully expensive too 🤣
