I have only recently discovered your channel, Laura. Over the past years I've been watching a lot of American homemaker, homesteader and budget meal channels. While I enjoy watching them (obviously) I rarely feel inspired to try the recipes because they tend to be so loaded with meat, butter, cream, cheese a.s.o. and use many convenience items. You're recipes are very different. I love how you do real cooking with real ingredients, skilled but uncomplicated, and your dishes don't come out colorless and swimming in grease. It all looks utterly delicious. Savory oats are a common breakfast item in parts of India, I think. They add all kinds of spices and vegetables.
Thank you so much!! That’s so kind of you to say! ☺️ I hope you love the recipes or at least get lots of inspiration! And I’m definitely going to try more savory oats combinations. I feel like the possibilities are endless!
Okay, I’m admitting it…..I’m the person who buys peeled garlic. 🤦🏼♀️ I hate peeling and dealing with the garlic. I actually buy it from Sam’s in bulk, chop it all at one time, freezing in small portions and using only a small portion at a time. Lasts me months.
@@LauraLegge In my area, it comes to about 20 cents an ounce. That is about the same price as regular garlic that I have to peel. Now, it is a big 3 lb bag, so just know that. I live in a small apartment so I have to go ahead and chop it all up in my mini chopper in batches and then freeze. My friend just puts the whole bag in the freezer then takes out what she needs and chops it. I just don’t have enough freezer space for the big bag. Either way, it is a great way to get fresh garlic at a reasonable price without all the skins. (I hate garlic skins. 😜)

I’m going to post it as its own recipe soon because I’m getting lots of requests. 😄Here’s the written recipe for now! I hope you love it! 2-Hour No Knead Bread Ingredients * 3 1/4 cups (425 grams) all-purpose flour * 2 tsp Fine Sea Salt * 1 tsp Honey or Sugar * 1 packet Instant Fast Acting Dry Yeast * 1 1/2 cups Warm Water (105°-110°F) Instructions 1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, honey or sugar, and yeast. Add warm water (use thermometer to make sure water is between 105-110° F before adding) and mix together with a wooden spoon or spatula. 2. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest at room temperature for 1 hour. 3. Remove plastic wrap and turn out dough onto a well flouted surface. Fold the edges over until the dough feels a little tighter and holds its shape. 4. Lightly flour the top of the dough and then transfer to parchment paper, smooth side up. Cover loosely with plastic wrap as the oven preheats. 5. Place a Dutch oven with the lid into the oven and preheat the oven to 425° F. (Make sure your Dutch oven and lid are safe for the oven before doing this) 6. Once the oven has preheated, CAREFULLY remove the Dutch oven (it will be extremely hot!!) and place the dough, along with the parchment paper, inside the Dutch oven. Cover with the lid and bake in the oven for 30 minutes. 7. Then carefully remove the lid and bake, uncovered, for 10-15 minutes, or until the bread reaches your desired level of doneness (as light or dark as you like). 8. Remove from the oven and carefully lift out of the Dutch oven and place on a cooling rack for at least 20-30 minutes before serving. (This step is extremely important to allow the bread to finish cooking, otherwise the bread will be doughy still in the middle.)
When you do a lot of baking, it would be better to get a 1 lb. package of dry yeast from Costco. I keep it in the fridge in mason jars. So much cheaper than those little packages.

My Aldi doesn't sell individual produce like limes or onions, they only have large bags of them. I find myself going to Wal-Mart afterwards to pick up individual oranges lemons etc :(

Wow! I’d like to know what State you shop at! My prices in Central California are ridiculous, everything is 4 bucks and above. Grapes? Forget about it. 6.99 a pound. Chicken? Between 3.99 to 6.99
I’m in Southern California! This is the cheapest store near us. All the other stores are just like you said. I’m SO happy to have Aldi because of that 😄 Our Walmarts are pretty inexpensive too
@@lifeisgood9175 I think they keep prices so low by only staffing one or two people at any given time and they rarely have the same groceries every single week. They only keep a small stock of everything they get in and once they’re out, that’s usually it for at least the week at my store. It’s a different experience but I’m actually really loving it! Especially with the super low prices!
I live about 32 miles from Fresno, we only have three grocery stores, Vons, Raleys, and Grocery Outlet. The grocery outlet has good prices, but don’t have everything and the stock changes regularly, like today they only had oat milk and regular milk. Only some yogurt the 4 pack of light and fit yogurt was 5.49, in Vons it’s 5.99. Aldi is in Fresno and Clovis , their prices have gone up too. I just need to order and do a grocery pickup once week at Walmart. I’ve watch a video and the RUclipsr shopped in Irvine California. They have cheaper prices. The Walmart in Fresno has all self checkouts now too. Not one thing was below a dollar. Our canned vegetables were from 1.29 to 1.99.
Yes and I think everyone is gouging also. Vons especially, they are ridiculous with their prices. 3.99, 6.99, for things. oh and Smart Ones frozen dinners. They wanted 4.29 and they were on sale.
@@battlefrenzie oh wow! I had no idea!! It’s my go-to section for holiday spices like cinnamon sticks and cloves. They’re half the price usually. It’s wild!
I always heard prices in California were so high but a lot of these are the same as we pay in southeastern Iowa. I have never baked any kind of bread or things like that before. You make it it look so easy! But any time in my life I have tried baking anything it never turns out! Even premade "just bake' items somehow fail! 😢 I thibk i can xook decently, my family and I like everything I make anyhow! Haha but cooking is definitely not baking!
Our Aldi has some amazing prices compared to all the other stores in our area! I’ve been super happy with them! I definitely recommend trying this bread recipe! I’m not great at most breads but this one hasn’t failed me yet haha. I completely understand about baking versus cooking. Baking is tricky for me 😅
It’s 50 servings. 😊 When I started doing these videos, I researched my title and that was a really common way that budget meal planners would title their similar videos. I thought it was odd at first too but I wanted to go with the flow and make sure my content fit with the other relevant content 😄
There are some who don’t do it They say meals (meals for a family) becuz no one cooks for singles that watch these vids It’s sad how lying is now -being relevant
In this plan, I wanted to make a breakfast option with oatmeal and I always try to use every ingredient entirely in different ways throughout the week ☺️ Savory oatmeal is SO delicious too!
I love these videos, but I get super frustrated watching them! Not from anything you're doing, lol. Frustrated because the Aldi near me is more expensive on most things I buy compared to my local Walmart. And if Aldi does have the cheaper price, it's only by a cent or two. Not worth it to go to another store to save literally a penny when gas costs so much. Obviously, I just shop at Walmart to save money, but Walmart is so chaotic and busy all the time. I would prefer the more peaceful atmosphere of Aldi. Also, my Aldi doesn't have some of the items you purchase. I mean, I expect California Aldis to have a different assortment compared to where I am in Ohio, but it's still annoying, lol. Oh well. I can still utilize the recipe ideas at least
I completely understand! I’ve been super happy with our selection at our Aldi but there’s definitely some weeks where they don’t have what I’m looking for. I do wish we had a Walmart closer because the drive is pretty far for us. Their prices are really great for most things and they have so many options!
I love the vidoes...especially without background music!!!!
Thank you! I had background music in some of my earlier videos and got some feedback about it so I leave it out now 😄

Where do you grocery shop for such great prices?
This is at Aldi in Southern California 😄
How much flo
For me goat cheese is a diet food because I'd go to bed without dinner on those nights.
Oh no! 😅 You can always omit it or substitute it with your favorite cheese ☺️
LOL
For some foods
It’s worth it!
@@YeshuaKingMessiah Worth what? I'm saying I would rather starve than eat goat cheese.
@@miscelany2 Bwah haha
Never crossed my mind
Who wouldn’t love it 🤷🏼♀️
This was six months ago. I don't think I will see those prices again.
Your Aldi has Mexican spices?!
Yes! I just found out that not all ALDIs have this section! It’s really common in our stores out here 😄
@@LauraLeggeNone of my stores have spices like that, not just Aldi. I'm in NY Metro area.
@@battlefrenzie oh wow! I had no idea!! It’s my go-to section for holiday spices like cinnamon sticks and cloves. They’re half the price usually. It’s wild!
@@battlefrenzienot in metro Detroit either.
@@battlefrenzie Oh wow!
I always heard prices in California were so high but a lot of these are the same as we pay in southeastern Iowa.
I have never baked any kind of bread or things like that before. You make it it look so easy! But any time in my life I have tried baking anything it never turns out! Even premade "just bake' items somehow fail! 😢
I thibk i can xook decently, my family and I like everything I make anyhow!
Baking is tricky for me 😅
Aldi. I heard you mention that. Please disregard my earlier question.
No worries! ☺️
50 meals or 50 servings?
It’s 50 servings. 😊 When I started doing these videos, I researched my title and that was a really common way that budget meal planners would title their similar videos. I thought it was odd at first too but I wanted to go with the flow and make sure my content fit with the other relevant content 😄
There are some who don’t do it
They say meals (meals for a family) becuz no one cooks for singles that watch these vids
It’s sad how lying is now -being relevant
$5 meals (which is what ur rly doing, averaged out) is still very good!
TY for all ur effort u shared with us the website too
Next week aldi has 7 percent for 2.32
Oh wow!!
Great ideas BUT why dont u use rice instead of oatmeal. Tastier in my opinion
In this plan, I wanted to make a breakfast option with oatmeal and I always try to use every ingredient entirely in different ways throughout the week ☺️ Savory oatmeal is SO delicious too!
Costco has 10lbs of Kirkland brand oats for 6.99. Not sure if you go to Costco.
Wow!! That’s an amazing deal!! I’ll look for it next time I go 😊 thank you!
Same here, I've noticed people who live up north seem to have cheaper prices.
