I am very surprised that Rice isn't leading more - I thought he was better at leading a team...I hate to say it that but we need a 'Henderson' not Henderson but somebody to get them organised and playing with passion for their country. Bellingham is incredibly overrated. He’s great at getting on the ends of things, arriving late in the box and scoring goals but he’s not creative in any shape or form and if you think he is then you don’t watch him week in week out at Real. He doesn’t link the play and play through balls which what England are missing massively. Switching foden to the 10 position. He’s far more suitable than Bellingham in that position.

I don't always agree with everything Piers but he his totally correct Bellingham, Foden, Kane, Rice and Saka have all been below par so far. On reading an Article from the Chelsea Chronicle yesterday these stats popped up.. Chelsea ace has interesting statistic at Euro 2024
England have scored just four goals in their four matches so far at the tournament, which includes Harry Kane’s extra-time winner against Slovakia.
It’s been pretty evident that the attack has struggled for large stages. That’s why so many supporters are desperate to see Chelsea’s Palmer play more.
FBREF data shares that Palmer is averaging more progressive passes than any England player when he’s on the pitch. These are classified as completed passes that move the ball towards the opponent’s goal at least 10 yards, or any pass into the penalty area.
Here are England’s top five players with the highest number of progressive passes per 90 minutes so far at the Euros.
Cole Palmer - 11.3
Kyle Walker - 7.21
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7.14
Kieran Trippier - 6.67
Kobbie Mainoo - 6.00
It’s quite alarming that England attackers Jude Bellingham (4.88), Bukayo Saka (4.32) or Phil Foden (3.51) don’t make the top five of this list.
When you take Palmer's and Mainoo's stats into perspective neither player has played 90 mins in total so the actually number would have been probably at least double for these two players. There is nowhere to hide and I am sure Southgate's team has these stats and has done the square root of zero about it. It does not need to be 4-4-2, 3-4-3 is the best formation with the players we have. Even the conservative 4-3-3 would be acceptable but the 4-2-3-1 is pants and leaves big holes in midfield. The front three have be Gordon, Tony and Palmer and maybe Rice and Mainoo in. midfield but Rice has been very iffy. Perhaps Gallagher and Mainoo, even as a Chelsea fan not a keen Conor man but he does work hard and is faster and presses really well, which Rice has been weak fro some reason.

I think there’s a factor here no one seems to be acknowledging. These players aren’t playing in 11 degree Celsius weather in March in Manchester. They are playing and training in upwards of 22 to 30 degree weather. Which makes “playing like your in premier league “ very difficult. Yes it’s not Saudi temperatures. But it’s enough to make it near impossible to press the same way as they would in the Prem. maybe it explains why Spanish teams play with a slow build up, because they are adapted to these conditions and they know a high press for 90 mins just isn’t feasible
The problem with English football as a whole is the English media. They tend to be overly enthusiastic and full of praise at times, yet overly critical and quick to assign blame at others, even name call the very players that got them they are this far.
352 will work, with Trent and Saka on the flanks (to start) drop Foden and have Toney in support of Kane - as with 2 strikers on balls in will start to come in from the right and left. Mainoo / Rice holding, and Jude directly behind in a free role.

Not having a left-footed LB has been the root problem ... we become too predictable in attack out of it.
We can't go deep left in attack because a right-footed punt up the field has more tendency to go out of play and it’s harder to cross out of that corner, if we even get it there in the first place.
On top of that, the opponent's defenders don't have to hug the touchline as much ... it becomes an easier marshaling job which THEN enables the other defenders to put more pressure on Saka or the 10 in the right side of our attacking zone.
We need Luke Shaw healthy or else put Saka there.
There needs to be a players revolt and they should visit Southgate in his office and tell him what's what. If i was one of the players i would tell Southgate i would no longer play for him after this tournament is over (probably after Switzerland who i think will win 2-0), and make it public.

Dean just had the perfect point, look at the 20 mins clip when Palmer came on, he aways dropped to defensive part of the game as a wing back to pick the ball up , but still nobobd(walker) is making the overlapping run , so basically Palmer has to run 60 yeards every time to come to attacking areas, I think at this either play 4-3-3 or play wing backs who can really run on the wings to support attack.
