Hi Debbie! I work at the McKinley Library and Museum. It is a wonderful place! Presidential Libraries all contain documents related to that President and other history. Our presidential library is unique because it also contains a science center. William McKinley was a big advocate of education, so that is why a science center was added. We also have a planetarium!

When you get to Fort Wayne, IN you'll have a decision to make. The Lincoln Highway splits into two different alignments here: the original 1913 alignment takes a northerly route through Goshen, Elkhart, and South Bend, while the 1928 alignment takes a southerly route through Columbia City, Warsaw, and Plymouth. The 1913 route goes through more populated cities with bigger downtown areas, while the 1928 route goes through more quiet, rural areas. Both are enjoyable in their own ways. Either alignment you take, you will end up in Valparaiso, where I live! If you're hungry when you pass through, there are plenty of good restaurants in the downtown area. Not a whole lot of Lincoln Highway stuff to see though, admittedly. Enjoy your trip!

The tea cup as you called it is a lovely "ride" where you hit the button, pull yourself around in circles like silly then wait for the power to reset and do it again. That's why there was the issue with it when you tried. The vacuum cleaner chair, aka Hoover, was placed there because the Hoover Company was founded here in Stark County/Canton/North Canton and manufacturered their vacuums and other products for decades funding the exhibit in the museum. I'm surprised you didn't mention the pendulum clock at the front door. It's one of my mid-list favorite things in the museum. My favorite thing IS the tea cup. The second is the general store in the Street of Shops.
If anyone does make it to Canton and wants to visit the monument sans stairs, there's a back access road for people that can't make it up the stairs. Don't feel back, Jacob. I've been here 54 years and never had been able to the "Rocky thing" with the stairs. There hasn't been many Canton kids though that haven't used the sides as slides though! :D Tradition.
William and Ida's two daughters are also buried in the mausoleum with their parents. There are a lot of things that you just have to come to see; beyond the dinosaurs are so many scientific things on the back section of the basement, there's a planetarium that has a theater just between the two upper floors, and there's a tomb stone in the cemetery snuggled against the monument that has Frankenstein buried there! Comments, don't believe me? Google it! :D
As for Mother Gooseland, Willie/Willy was a display in a pond with seal around him. There were aquariums inside him. His paint job was simple, a powder blue pleasant paint was soothing and his eye was just a white O and a black o. This new paint job drives the freaking hell out of me. The mural and the "improved paint job" happened when they dredged his pond and improved the park. The issue with the pond is that the creek behind Willy tends to overflow it's banks and backwash into the pond so no matter how hard the parks department tries to tidy it, it ends up looking like a swamp. Many years ago, the city bricked up the inside of Willy's mouth to prevent people from entering, but afterwhile, the bricks went away. Not sure what prompted either decision, but I can guess.
Hopefully you can come back and look at the rest of what Canton has to offer. There are a LOT of things--ESPECIALLY in late September and October for the Haunted Factory! :D

It's a shame that has fallen into disrepair b/c that would be a colorful, fun thing to play music on., although you'd have to have the right kind of mallet to get a good sound.
