Those crickets are called "mormon crickets".
I was 24 years old in 1980. Enjoyed seeing the pharmacy. It bought back a lot of memories.
I turned 26 in October 1980. I'm not too far ahead of you.
Have you bumped into The Woo yet? He's on a similar path :)
You went by where Adam the Woo was in Salt Lake City. Anticipated a meetup.🎯
When you see a sign that says “next gas 130 miles” you know that’s going to be an expensive fill up.
I never realized how empty the salt flats look from an outside view. They've just always been there for me so this is super interesting.
That place looks like another planet!
I haven't seen such a desolate stretch of empty wastes since I read the imdb comments section
Ayds wasn't candy, it was for weight loss. It was a appetite suppressant.
I'm glad you made it through the loneliest highway portion of the trip. Tomorrow you will be where I lived until I was 5 years old. That was 66 years ago.
Ee Lee =Ely Ne-VAD-uh (with the second syllable rhyming with mad) is the standard pronunciation with locals, while saying Ne-VAH-duh (second syllable rhymes with spa) will expose you as a foreigner to the state.
You sound exhausted at the end of this video. Great series and sites you'll need to take another vacation after you get home from this one.
You are no Superman just a super cool guy who goes by the carpetbagger traveling along these lonesome roads day and night just to put a smile 😀 on our faces. Thanks so much 🙏
they could easily film an 80s style movie in that pharmacy! so cool
I feel like I'm experiencing Deja vue but it is actually because Adam the Woo traveled these same roads and visited some of the same places a short time ago. Enjoying both versions.
I came to the comment section for that exact reason. Seems they missed each other by about a week. Jacob and Adam used to do collabs together. I wonder if they still communicate?
Wow! The pharmacy was cool! Talk about a time capsule! I was 14 years old in 1980. I remember when my Mom bought AYDS “candy” to help her lose weight. It didn’t really do anything, but I used to sneak a piece from time to time. LOL. The salt flats were endless, and who doesn’t like Reno, NV? Hope you got something to eat. Thanks again for the fun video. I really enjoyed it. I hope that you can take Jenn on your next road trip. Safe travels! Take care!
I can't believe how much you actually found on route . Some very interesting attractions . I believe the opera house in Eureka is suppose to be very haunted . Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
The EWU crew on their channel explored that.
Welcome to Reno! Maybe I'll see you around somewhere tonight. I live downtown near the casinos. Let me know if you want any suggestions on wild shit to see in Reno. I think a good fit for the channel would be the trophy room in the Wilbur May Museum (a room of stuff made entirely of taxidermy, you can look at it for 15 minutes to see all the details)
I just wanted to comment and say that I really love you content and you give off the vibe of that fun uncle
Mustang ranch about 20 to 30 miles east of reno is one of the oldest brothels in Nevada be safe out there plenty of truck stops thru there it's not as desolate as they say
“I wasn’t lonely for one moment, because I knew that you guys were with me” 🥹
This made my YEAR!!! 🥹❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 God bless you Jacob!
It’s crazy there’s absolutely nothing out there I’ve done it a couple times.
We got stuck in a snow storm in Ely NV. It is pronounced like E- LEE this drive caused me to buy a portable DVD player to watch while hubby drove lol
We are always with you! Thanks what a fun trip!! Be careful
I was at the Salt flats in 2018 and people were getting ready for a race or something. It's so pretty out there
I turned 13 in 1980, and while I have very little interest in pharmacies in general, that museum was interesting. Pretty much exactly how I remember it. And I've always wanted to try the Bonneville salt flats. Just get out there, and put the pedal to the metal.
I would love to try it, but I would be worried about the salt causing rust
This was my favorite leg of your trip yet! That drugstore museum was amazing and gave me lots of Stranger Things vibes! So damn cool. I’ve loved watching each video as soon as they’ve posted. Thank you for showing those of us who can never do things like this, what a trip across America is like. Love it!
To see those gas prices is depressing!! Good luck and safe travels on your trip!
The way you ran and jumped into the 🛏️ bed 😅 lol. Your fun!
You are now the best youtuber out there in my books
"How many genuine opportunities do you have to just walk back into the 80's?" Take a look in my wardrobe.😎
That road isn’t bad I did a lot of driving on it when I was over the road driving semis also I got a picture of that tree complete I didn’t know it broke
Yep I'm watching your video right now I'm not feeling the best right now but I'm watching it
Did you know that the Saltair was the filming place of the carnival scenes in Carnival Of Souls. Unfortunately the original building from the movie burned down and was replaced by that one.
I hope that you're resting well. With stress comes enjoyment sometimes. And you haven't been lonely on the lonely road for a single minute, neither have I just watching you on a theoretical lonely road. You make the world a better place by consuming history and museums and interesting oddities in between. I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow! Double up on those pillows if you have to :-).
I loved that Pharmacy it was so fun to see some items from the 80s again. Lol . And the old cameras that home developer was awesome. I loved how they just froze it in time. That was so awesome!
We love being with you on your travels, Jacob. :) The Tree of Utah "berries" remind me of croquet and tennis balls LOL Those giant insects are called Mormon Crickets (actually a part of a group known as shieldback katydids, not crickets). They really go to town on all the native plants .
Yes, that's what I was thinking as well🦗
For a second I thought I had already seen this episode but then I realized Adam The Woo had stopped by the Pony Express recently too.
Please tell me I'm not the only one that had to watch him pounce on the bed more than once. Hahaha did not expect that one!!!!
Thanks for taking us on your journey. Very enjoyable.
Great videos Jacob. Pretty country and lots of interesting stuff along the way. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Glad we could keep you company. All the best.
went to Reno once... got married. Never been back. Thanks for the videos!
This has been such an awesome trip, can’t wait one day I’m going to your your great country.I’m going to drive the Lincoln highway and the Dixie highway amd a few other roads you taught me about.Melissa from Australia 🇦🇺
Since it will be your first time in the US (maybe) I'd also recommend route 66. You will get to see so much "americana" and the way the scenery changes so dramatically from Chicago, all the way out to southern California is just beautiful. I'd also highly recommend taking highway 1 (Pacific coast highway) from southern California up to the Canadian border. Its gorgeous with so many dramatic views! Good luck and I hope you get to do your drives very soon
@@Sparty-pi3jq Oh yeah, highway 1, i would forget that. Some of my favorite musicians live right next to that highway. Should i ever be able to come to U.S.A. again, i sure would like to do that!
Glad you didn't run out of gas. That 1980's Rexall Drug Store was definitely a step back in time.
The salt flats are incredible. I hope you have safe travels! ✌️
I bought a box of Ayds Candy years ago. It didn't help me as I ended up wolfing down the whole box. It's sad about their name. It's too bad they couldn't have changed it!
You are the best! Loving this trip down the Lincoln Hwy, did not know much about it but you sure have made it fun 🤩
That has got to be one of the best things you have ever shown, that 80's drug store museum!!! I absolutely LOVED it!!
When i was little I believed that Mr Rogers lived in that Tree sculpture
That pirate guy in the window looked like a golden Rip Torn.
i appreciate the bits of artistry like the cold open here
They're Spider crickets or Cave crickets Jacob.
Luv the Sinclair. Oh not too mention Sir. Carpetbagger.
Another great video Jacob! 🎉
Traveled on the Lincoln Highway (aka Route 30, Lancaster Pike) my entire life (60 now) in Chester County and Lancaster County, PA, and never knew it was a coast-to-coast highway. Loved this trip!
If you want clowns in your room you need to go a couple hours south to the Clown Motel in Tonapah Please don't skip the Jelly Belly factory!
I saw the Clown Motel on Ghost Adventures. It’s supposed to be haunted, and there’s a cemetery right next to it.
Thank you for taking us along with your adventures download lonely highway 👋😜
Hope you enjoyed Reno Jacob. I have always preferred it to Vegas. I am not a fan of huge extravaganzas. I am really enjoying following you on this journey. I definitely want to try it myself. I traveled your route from the Midwest last summer but not the whole trek. I remember Nevada being very brutal with the vastness and high winds. Safe travels my friend. Enjoy Cali👍
Those are giant jumping crickets
Boy that is one lonely highway. But absolutely beautiful scenery. Thanks as always for sharing Jacob❤️
So I'm the butcher at Heck's meat in Fallon, NV... so mad we missed you, would have bought you a steak good sir!
For the best cuts, Butcher Joe and Heck's Meat Co are where it's at!
Wow this is such a great trip but not sure I want to drive out there by myself. Thank you.
When I was there (where the venue is near the great salt lake) back in summer 1986, the “venue and parking lot,” was under water
Hey Jacob ! Someone may have said it but that is a Mormon cricket they don't usually come in ones. 😎😀🤗
The giant crickets are called Mormon Crickets.
So cool you came by Heck's Meat Co! If you are curious about who runs that shop...Butcher Joe is in my Road Trip videos...in both live video and animated cartoon form lol
Loneliest highway, no kidding! I bet you are glad to be back in civilization. I’m sure that you can find some sharks there in Reno! 👀
As long as I'm not the only one that dives from one bed to another in hotel rooms!!
Was surprised by the thumbnail lol. Knew he was about to be in wendover. Wish he explored the town a little more. Has a pretty cool history. For us in the Salt Lake area it's kinda of our mini Las Vegas when we don't want to drive to Vegas
Omgawd sooooo loving the pharmacy museum🥲💕I sure miss those years!
You missed the festival of colors on 11 June in the Krishna Hare! Don't mind, those little coincidences and near hits are part of life and open the opportunity for a future event. So far, so good Jacob. You've put a huge stretch of road behind you and left us a video a day to show all the big and little interesting things along the way!
To actually see and visit the Bonneville site was awesome. So many speed records were set here in the 1960s and 70s.
Yoyo's were pretty popular in around 1980.
wow that’s really cool that you saw a cement tree with huge bacii balls near the top of it 👍🤪😜👊🤠
Been loving this series! I loved that drug store museum frozen in the. That would be so much fun to look at stuff that was around my freshman year in h.s.
Must be very quiet and eerie there
The Mormon cricket is a large insect that can grow to almost 8 cm in length. It lives throughout western North America in rangelands dominated by sagebrush and forbs. Despite its name, the Mormon cricket is actually a shieldbacked katydid, not a cricket. hope that helps! Great video!!
You made a lonely stretch of road interesting and discovered many interesting places that I would want to see if I ventured out that way. I found that drugstore museum particularly fascinating. Safe travels and I hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly.
Oh nice, hope you're enjoying it here in Reno.
Idk man....the road to my farm house in North Central Montana is pretty desolate....
I hope you like Reno. We have been there 3 times and like it better than Vegas! Thanks for bringing us along!
Appreciate you Jacob
Great intro!!! Seriously
I 😍 that pharmacy store. Thanks another great video.
Enjoying this journey with you , Jacob . Greetings yet again from Canada .
Hello Jacob I Really Enjoyed this Segment until today I Never Knew what the lonely Highway was. Its Actully Really cool I Was Born 1973 I Really Got A Great Nostalgic Feeling from the 1980 Pharmacy Museum It brought me back to my Childhood I recalled every product that they had in there. Thank you For Another Great Day on the Road in our Life We Are Always there with you
welcome to my neck of the woods! I'm a bit sad you missed the show tree but you can't hit them all. circus circus used to have circus themed art in the room but I think they got rid of it when they were trying to class up reno a bit back.
Jacob! I live in Eureka and I would have absolutely lost it if I ran into you! I've been a huge fan of this channel for years. PS -- The giant crickets are called 'Mormon Crickets' ... they sometimes get so bad that the roads need to be plowed in the summer because their guts make the road slick 😅 Safe travels!
25:00 thanks carpetbagger I felt like I was with Mr Roger's again
Hang in ther buddy
I went to a New Year's celebration at Saltair. It was nice inside.
*Safe travels!* 🙂
Awesome !! Best one on the trip !
I think the giant crickets your seeing are camel crickets. They are wingless and live in open plains.
The crickets are probably Mormon crickets I think they come out for a few weeks during the year. I'm in Reno and that's where we get them.. be careful they can be slippery 🙄
Adam The Woo is out there currently too! Maybe you guys will bump into each other😂
8:10 The World's Fastest Indian is a must see movie about the salt flats
yoo I caught a video within the first hour! Love the videos!
Dude, you and Casey LaDelle on youtube just crossed paths on the road.
We will have to film the fallout shelter in Florida built for JFK its a museum now
