    Originally loved the garleans because they are sci fi and have cool looking armor, but their history and ties to the ascians is cool. I've been watching a bunch of your lore videos and they are really well put together and fun to watch. Thanks for your hard work!

    FF XIV is all about conflict. Coflict born of lack of knowledge, of different perspective, of lack of choice. Garleans were made prey of all of those things. Weak, magic-less and treated as less than beastkin. It all caused for them to seek strenght in what they possesed - flesh, mind and own adaptability. And born even more hate, as strenght for revenge against the past injustice was found in magitech, firmly supported by will that made them survived through all of those ages. Perfect to be lured and controld from shadows by Ascian.
    All of races are victims. There are just assholes among them.

    Hey man, I randomly went on a binge to find out lore for FFXIV, especially because I started in ARR and it felt like I was watching a sequel without getting the first bit of info. Thats when I found your chanel. Its really helping me piece together info that isn't necessarily given completely throughout the game (just finished stormblood today). That aside, hearing the first portion of your video really resonated with me given that I've got countless horrific stories dealing with racism. Ya just can't believe it, until you either see it, or it happens to you. That aside, the way you format n edit your videos are amazing. I hope your content blows up. Its damn good.

    The spatial awareness aid info on the wiki is actually from one of the letters.
    "Q: What is the Garleans’ third eye used for?
    This is a question that a lot of people ask me personally at Fan Fests and game shows. Oda-san had an answer prepared for this one as well. This pretty much stated that the third eye is believed to considerably improve the race’s capacity for spatial recognition. Because of this, the Garleans have a decided advantage over other races when it comes to navigating aircraft or firing weapons. You might then think about Cid’s bandana and the legatii’s helms, but Yoshi-P says that armor has been designed not to interfere with the workings of the 3rd eye."

I just got through the MSQ as a new player, but my ADHD makes it extremely difficult for me to follow the story and I tend to forget things easily. You've created a wonderful resource in helping me flesh out my Garlean OC. Keep being awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing more lore breakdowns!

    Great Video and not the typical "All Garlean's are just evil" take ^^
    As a longtime Garlean Roleplayer, this is refreshing.
    I will point out something curious to the theories that you mentioned. I'm one of those who throw my stones with the Idea of how they are likely created by the Allagans as a labor force, or at least workers in some kind be it soldiers, builders or even airship pilots.
    My main reason for this and while yes anything before the 4th Umbral Calamity everything is very hard to nail down with facts, but we do have mentions of all other races before that time, Garleans however only first shows up in the end/after it the first time. Which later lead to the whole Aldernad pushing them north as outsider and pretty much starting to cut them down based on the None magical thing being something they don't want to risk carrying over.
    NOW considering Allag also was an Ascian aided project. It is likely this was all intentional long term goals.
    Just wanted to note that down ^^ Help the youtube algorithm ^^
    Great video, and others too. You earned yourself a subscriber :) :)

    not sure why you had to include the BLM thing at the beginning. But i guess thats the world we live in where you have to explain yourself, lest someone misunderstand and or attack you for discussing something. even if it is fiction.
    love the video though! :)

    • @SaltExarch
      @SaltExarch  3 года назад +6

      It was less done out of fear that people would misconstrue the contents of the video, and more out of wanting to add my voice in where I could. At the time I made the episode, the George Floyd incident was a current event and being discussed everywhere, and I felt like I needed to address it in my own way, even if it was just a short blurb at the beginning of a video.

    I don't understand the forward. This is a video game, I didn't come here to listen to an agenda or wildly disconnected outlook. If anyone harasses you about race issues that's because they can't see past race. There is no further need to explain yourself to shortsighted individuals. I'll never understand the sensitivity behind the ffxiv community. I personally do t come here to encounter politics, but to enjoy a great story.

    (Spoiler warning for those who care or haven’t played the game yet.)
    Given Garlean’s innate inability to use magic I would say that their third eye being able to see aether would be rather confirmed to be false in my opinion at least. However it seems that they can be artificially given the ability to use magic in some fashion? My memory is a bit fuzzy of the last bits of the storm blood and I’m unsure currently if the Echo functions through a form of magic but I would assume that it does since it allows for direct communication to Hydaelen (can’t remember how to spell it so I do apologize)

    My god man, the SJW talk in the beginning for video game content. I stopped watching at :15 because of it. It's a game, where do you think people escape to so they can avoid that crap? 0/10

    • @throwmeaname
      @throwmeaname 3 года назад +6

      The fact that you can just “avoid” the things that black ppl have been talkin about for hundreds of years, shows how privileged you are in society. You have the option to just “turn off the tv.” Black ppl are dying at the hands of the police for simply wearing a hoodie.

    • @SaltExarch
      @SaltExarch  3 года назад +6

      I put serious talk time up at the beginning for a reason. If you wanted to skip it, you can skip it. I know some people just want to use a game as an escape, and they want to watch fun, lighthearted videos that don't get political or make them uncomfortable with the reality around us.
      However, also keep in mind that this is one of my only platforms, and even as small of a content creator as I am, when stuff happens in the real world that I feel is important to talk about, then I'm going to talk about it when I can, where I can. It's not just out of a sense of social justice, though that is part of it, it's also a personal thing to me specifically, because I myself am an asian american who, while not nearly to the extent of black americans, have been on the receiving end of racial profiling, institutional racism, and personal attacks due to who I am and what I look like.
      Regardless of whether you like that I'm talking about it at the start of videos about an MMO, if you can't at least respect that, then quite frankly I don't care about your views and I don't need you in my community.

    • @snow9906
      @snow9906 3 года назад

      @@SaltExarch I find it awfully ironic how you feel you can say what you want in your videos, but you don't feel people have a right to respond to it and you "don't care" about their views. How very leftist of you. If that's the approach you want to take I suggest you turn the comment section to your videos off. (although something tells me you really do care because you decided to write an essay on it instead of ignoring it)
      I left that comment just to give you feedback on your video and potentially help improve your content. Didn't really expect a response.
      But I have news for you, EVERYONE receives personal attacks at some point in their life because of what they look like, or where they live, or who they are. The people that do that are called called Assholes and it's best to to do what us grown-ups do and ignore them.
      I hope you take time to reflect on that while you are being such a victim of "institutional racism". You know, along with having the highest median household income in the country, getting easier access to better schools, etc. just for the fact of being Asian-American.
      As far your "community", I'm sorry but I'm really not missing out on being one of your 400 subs.
      If you someday want to grow, then GROW and stop being a victim.

    • @SaltExarch
      @SaltExarch  3 года назад +5

      @@snow9906 If I thought that people don't have the right to respond negatively to my content under any circumstances, I would've simply deleted your comment. Obviously I didn't do that because that's not how I feel.
      If you were paying attention, I did say "If you can't at least respect that, then I don't care about your views". My response was to acknowledge that, while I do see your point in game content creators sticking to content related to the game and not to talk about real life events, that I personally disagree with that, and that I have personal reasons as to why I felt this was necessary to bring up. And I gave some reasons to why I felt that way that related to my personal life. My ultimate point was, I understand you feedback, I disagree with it, I will continue to mark any instances of "serious talk" in my videos as such so people who wish to do so may skip it, and that even if you might personally disagree with me, I'd like you to at least respect that. Then, only if you can't, do I not want you as part of my audience.
      I also find it hilariously presumptuous that you think I need to "reflect" on whether or not I've been a victim of racism and that I need to grow out of the mentality of being a victim when literally all I've said about it is that this kind of stuff has happened to me and I can empathize with people who have it much worse.

    • @liamtanner3067
      @liamtanner3067 3 года назад +4

      @@snow9906 Maybe you misunderstood the whole reason behind the "serious talk". To put it simply for you, racism and discrimination has no place in society. The Empire, for better or for worse, was written with an extreme racist ideology, believing in purity of blood not unlike those who rallied a nation going through a major depression, and subsequently became an economic and military powerhouse and plunged our earth into the Second World War.
      So, what does this mean for the video? Well, if you look at when this was posted, it was put online during June 2020, when not only the United States, but all of the world stood up for the Black Lives Matter movement. I think that it was very appropriate to state that there is absolutely no tolerance for racism. However, what you seem to misunderstand is that all people, regardless of ethnicity, can experience discrimination and racism.
      Anyone can be a victim of institutional racism, regardless of their ethnicity. The very fact that you resort to pointing to medians and expect that Asian-American people just "get better access to schools", or don't come from poor homes, proves that you have this same racist ideology. Giving your voice to the problems that you see in real life, and being able to talk about your experiences (and empathize with those who have gone through worse) does not mean that you are playing the victim.
      If you'd like to use your frontal cortex and have an actual conversation about how sad our world that we live in is, or the fact that using racism in-game to create lore actually makes the game feel more alive due to the racism people face in real life, feel free to let me know. If you want to point fingers and call anyone who doesn't share your view a leftist, an SJW, or that people should just "put up with it because it happens to everyone", then you're actively part of the problem and honestly should consider where you went wrong in life if your life has brought you to arguing online on a lore video because you got upset that real-world problems can have in-game analogies.
