That’s a fair question but adding weight should have little to no effect on MOI as the mass won’t make the head more or less forgiving. So although it can make it perform and play differently when used to address an individuals swing flaws, it’s not necessarily going to turn a standard G430 max driver into a 10k version by simply adding more mass or hot melt. The reason for the extra mass really comes down to timing and launch as weight dispersed to different parts of the head can have a profound impact there.
We want to avoid the face as it can change how the balls feels coming off it will make it feel dead. We don’t want to get any on the top part of the driver as that will affect the CG we want all of the mass as low as we possibly can. That was a Really good question thanks for asking.
If it gets on the face it will deadened the feel and sound, if you get it on the top it’s going affect the CG characteristics, so when using hot melt we do need to be sure we are taking the extra precaution. Same for hybrids and fairways but irons won’t get hot melt
Hey John, I’m looking to get fit for the stealth (first ever driver fit). My eBay Cleveland launcher has always felt a little long for me so I plan to get one an inch shorter or so. If I am being fit with stock length shafts only, does gripping down 1” on the shaft simulate a 1” shorter club? Also, will TM change anything with swing weight when I order the driver shorter? Thanks!
If say the stock stealth comes (guessing) D4 and 45.5" and you want it an inch shorter I would hope that they will reweight the head to get it back to D4. Remember if you grip down on a grip you are now gripping a thinner part as it tapers. I have success with shortening my own drivers to as little as 45.5" (tiger used that length at one point) lost maybe 2pm swing speed but gain accuracy
My man is 100% correct I’m not a fan of choking down because of the reason he stated. And yes TMade should be able to get SW back. I haven’t seen the specs on the drivers just yet but D4 may be a tad heavy for a stock SW but they have shocked me before.
@@SwingFit ahh that’s kinda unfortunate to hear because the place I’m going to get fit for the stealth ONLY has standard shaft lengths. Any suggestions to maximize this fit (that is happening tomorrow)? I was fit into irons at 1/2” short so I’m really looking to have a shorter driver shaft for better control. Grip down but make sure it’s a jumbo grip if possible? Does gripping down really simulate what it’d be like with a true 1” shorter shaft? I wonder if the extra mass above my hands takes effect and doesn’t provide a true representation of what a shorter shaft would be, gripped normally.

Well it does depend especially if you already determined that D4 is ideal SW. but it’s a relatively easy one to fix though. we would just need to add a CW to the handle or replace with a little heavier grip to offset this. Great observation.

Why would you not want to place hot melt on the crown?
We want to keep mass as low as we possibly can, as this helps protect the CG characteristics, which in Turn helps us with launch and spin.

@@SwingFit or on my driver I have drilled holes in the back on the fitted weight to lighten it.
