- Rockman X5 full original opening, "Monkey", subtitled in romaji and translated into english. Song by Showtaro Morikubo (森久保 祥太郎) and his former band Mosquito-Milk. Morikubo was also X and Dynamo's voice actor, debuting in this game, though most of the voice acting didn't make it to Megaman X5. This original song as well, was removed and replaced by the an extended version of the original main menu song, composing what is known today for the occidental Megaman X5 Opening.

I feel like that is actually the best way to translate that phrase. Probably what Showtaro Morikubo's meant with his lyrics
For those who don't understand it. The song has to do with Sigma trying to pull Zero's strings. Sigma tried to make Zero be what Dr Wily intended. A blood thirsty destroyer of humans and robots.
This intro in Rockman X5 always got me pumped up before playing it as a kid. But finally I see the translation and...it doesn't make a lot of sense. Yes, easy to understand the 'don't make a monkey out of me' line, but lyrics mention getting along and relying on someone like a friend is contradicted by the monkey line loooool. Dw I still love you Showtaro, you the best
It's X talking to Zero. "I trust you, so don't make a fool of me for doing so."
Which hits the major theme considering X vs Zero was a major event in the game.

Zero putting his trust in X, telling him not to make him regret doing so and giving him the confidence to move on even when he won't be there for him. Which fits with Zero volunteering to sacrifice himself by flying the shuttle and later putting himself into hybernation.

The irony is that Sigma and Dynamo managed to make monkeys out of the Irregular Hunters.
A whole lot of misdirection and confusion. Par for the course when it comes to Sigma.
Hasn’t been the first time either, Sigma, his previous right hand man Double and Magma Dragoon managed to make monkeys out of both the hunters AND Repliforce causing a huge battle between them

If not for Sigma and his sleeper agents within Repliforce, the Irregular Hunters would've been strengthened by a common alliance against him.

I mean... I like this song. But if since X5 was suppose to be the end of the series, I kind of prefer how the english version took the opening a bit more seriously, specifically with those first notes.

Well, this song fits with the idea of "edgy megaman" and the "velocity" sense that "x's" represents; lol and it worked pretty well on the promotional videos used in japan but you are right; it doesn't work as an opening song.
X4 Japan was worse Imo they made it all cheery which would of worked fine on a normal Mega Man game but not an X game and the credits was even happier even though both endings were depressing
@@stomper1232 X4 Japan opening was brilliant it was essentially Iris and Zero's theme look at the english translation of the words to the song. X4 opening atleast was related to the game and its events and characters. This one I can't connect it to anything in the game cool song though it grew on me after a few listens at first I did not like onkey very much but decent opening theme. In comparison if I were to choose an english version song X4 english OP is generic and really bad but X5 english opening is better. but the USA X5 Op theme is also the title screen theme of X5 JP version so it was lifted from the title screen and just slapped on as an opening.

I know this most likely wasn't the intention at all, and call me nit-picky if you may, but I find it very ironic how the song goes hard saying "don't make a monkey out of me", yet, the series is well-known for the protagonists to copy the skills of bosses.. y'know, IMITATING them, like how we say monkeys do to certain things
