Just the fact that you had the balls to post this vulnerable and disappointing moment in your life says everything about who you are and where you'll get to be. This video is a million miles from all the 'ego and image' posts and you'll have helped so many people see that they aren't alone with exam results less than they expected. Well done for the strength of character and good luck for the resits and beyond!

I took my A Levels twice because I didn’t get the results I expected the first time, and it was totally worth it. What I did wrong initially was focusing too much on study materials without practicing or properly preparing to answer exam questions. I didn’t attempt many questions, practice under timed conditions, or refer to marking schemes.
One of my teachers shared a really helpful method, which I still use. If anyone wants to try it out, here's how it works. Keep in mind that this method is best suited for structured/essay-type questions.
    1. Time your questions accurately. Always practice within the time allocated for each question. Don’t worry if you can’t recall the theories involved right away. Just focus on answering within the given time, without referring to any notes, and do your best to remember what you've learned.
    2. When time’s up, set your answer aside without marking or checking it. Next, refer to your notes and study the section only relevant to the question.
    3. Attempt the question again, timed. This will be your second attempt, and now you have two answers to compare.
    4. Mark both answers using the marking scheme. See where you went wrong and analyze how the marks were distributed for each part of the question.
    5. If you're still struggling with the question, review your notes again and try to clarify any misunderstandings. If needed, reach out to your study buddy or teachers for help.
At first, this method may seem time-consuming and slow. However, after working through four or five past papers, you’ll start memorizing content naturally and relying less on your notes. You’ll find that you're getting questions right on your first attempt, and without even realizing it, you'll have covered all the topics in the syllabus.
This method worked wonders for me during my second attempt, and I still use it today. I hope it helps anyone looking for an effective study technique!
Wishing you the best on your next attempt! Don’t ever be discouraged if things don’t go as expected. Keep pushing and give it your best next time. You’ve got this!

I did a foundation year at university and finally passed my maths without exams, just some assessments and equivalent of a B/C. I am now going into my second year of my course, but my third if you count the foundation year, and i am doing well. All my teachers support me and help me get to where i need to be. Find a university that will potentially accept a lower grade criteria and go straight into your degree. A degree is a degree at the end of the day and there's only ever going to be a handful of universities where it's going to drastically stand out. Once you get your degree it will only be useful to get your first job and then it will only be your experience that employers will actually care about. This is all coming from someone who got Ds and Es in his A levels but now has a 2:1 bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and has climbed his way up the corporate ladder working his dream job in power electronics. You just randomly popped up on my feed but good luck. My advice for what it's worth: Work like hell this year, don't go travelling or any of that crap, securing your future is more important, then you'll have all your 20's to go travelling if you want. If you have predicted ABB then you can get it, and those grades will get you into a Russell Group uni (which are the only ones worth going to). If you can then get a tutor then do, or maybe one for each subject but I appreciate cost might be a limitation (however given uni is £10,000's it amazes me how many people won't pay £50 a week for a tutor to actually get in!) and make sure they know what your target grade is. There's no point beating around the bush, you will have to put in loads of work to get those grades, but I know from my own A-Level and uni experience (and others) that if you put in the work, you absolutely will get the grades. Good luck again!

Being one of those generic "businessmen" is the dream for me. Being involved in different companies simultaneously while working for none of them full time, making plenty of money.
Can't lie, it is very appealing. I know people who've gone down that path in life and they're minted, nice cars, big houses, plenty of free time and generally just chilled.

I have run a fairly prestigious PhD programme at a university in the UK for a number of years now and the thing that would amaze you is how many of the people that are successful on it have had quite untraditional routes getting there and their journey though undergraduate and masters. My one word of advice would be to turn what some might see as a weakness into a strength, learn something, whatever that might be about yourself.. keep in mind STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result)

I had this moment when I was about 18. I got held back in school, blocked from opportunities and had no intention of going to Uni. Anyway, failing near everything completely changed my work ethic and I've had top grades since. I started Uni at 27, age really doesn't matter. Being older actually helps relieve the social pressures if anything. A gap year sounds like a solid plan for you. Road bumps are expected but things normally work out in the end.

Please don’t worry about re-sitting and taking a slightly more scenic route through your academic studies. I sat my exams for Politics at the end of Year 13 and wasn’t happy with my grade. I re-sat Politics again the following year, alongside my other two subjects. So, in total, I spent 3 years at Sixth Form. I achieved grades I was much happier with and got into my dream Uni. Since then, I have changed academic pathway and, at 20 years old, will be going back into Year 1 this September. I will be studying a different subject at a different Uni. Although my academic journey so far hasn’t been ideal, I am happy and really looking forward to this upcoming year. Hope this offers some reassurance!

If you were excited and ready to start uni next year and are deciding to take a gap year and re-take your A-Levels purely because you didn't like your grades, I would seriously urge you to reconsider. Take it from me, as someone that has worked in HR & Talent for many years, employers don't care that much about your A Levels compared to your degree result. And even then, degree results don't count for much. What you do in the real world (professionally and voluntary, references, your portfolio, presentation skills and practical achievement) count for so so much more. Kids are brainwashed into thinking stupid results on a bit of paper mean a huge amount. If you can get a spot on a course that excites you at a uni that you like via clearing, think about pushing on and just getting started with your degree. You can't bring back time, and exams are utterly overrated. I've lost count of the number of the "professional failures" I have come across in life that have sparkling A level and degree results. The winning traits are having a good level of intellectual and emotional intelligence allied with persistence, a great attitude and resilience. Wish you good luck and stay strong ... you have an amazing life ahead of you. Don't let a few stupid grades define you because trust me, they're pretty worthless.

I also didn't get the grades I wanted the first time around and decided to take a gap year and resit my A-Levels again at the end, and honestly it was the best decision I made. A-Levels are so much easier the second time around and it gives you time to think about what you want to do afterwards and really process your thoughts a little more compared to the previous 2 years. Now I just finished my first year in a Russel group uni doing a course I never considered until my gap year and I am loving it :) This could be the best thing that has happened to you so try not to be disheartened, go prove everybody wrong and show you can do it!

This video got recommended to me somehow. I may don't live in UK but i went to British international school in my country. I got 1 Bs, 2 Cs, 2 Ds and 4 Es in GCSEs. Probably not a good result, but i never gave up. I unexpectedly got 2 As and 2 A*s in A Levels (i did 4 subjects). Still, i didn't get into a good university I've dreamt of even if i met the eligibility criteria of A Levels result but not eligibility criteria of GCSE result that would forever hunt my future i thought. However, i got into the university i originally didn't want to enter. It was considered to be an average university according to the nation's standards. I thought i had no future but 5 years later, i was really wrong. I met the most hardworking, the most intelligent and the sweetest people there. I finally overcame my biases, and I'm glad that i got an opportunity to study in this university. Now, I'm working as a Software Developer at the company that's really wholesome. It's paying me well. I also can't believe how happy i am. I got my home, my gaming computer i always dreamt of, my pets and many things I never imagined in my life. Please, don't be upset. Be clear in your thoughts, make effective plans and work on finding "smart pathways" for a success. You don't need best grades to get the future you want ❤

When you've gotten over your upset feelings (which is a normal reaction, by the way), try and figure out what you could have done better, and use that knowledge to have a better crack next time.
Thanks for posting your experiences. Sorry this has happened to you. This is just a set-back. Failure happens to everyone. If you have the courage and strength to post your exam results, you've got more than enough courage and strength to successfully tackle this hurdle and then move to the next part of your life. Good luck!

I then found a perm job 1 year later for a massive globally known professional services firm in Central London and am still with them to this current day. I left school with average results in 1983 and I wanted to do was become a truck driver. After a few van driving jobs, at the age of 21 I got my HGV LGV license and began a 10 year career as a long distance truck driver in the UK. 6 years of that was driving tankers carrying hazardous chemical waste from industrial companies to either treatment plants, landfill or incinerators. Loved it. I also did 3 years for Eddie Stobarts. At the age of 31, I changed careers and became an aircraft refueller at Manchester Airport for Shell. It was a dream job for me as I love aeroplanes. After a few months into this, I decided that my ultimate dream would be to become a Commercial Pilot, so I trained part time for 6 years, spent £55,000 to get my license and after 9 years as a refueller and at the age of 39, I became a Commercial Pilot for Thomas Airways based at Manchester flying Boeing 737s. After 3 years, I was made redundant and took a job for Qatar Airways based in Doha Qatar flying their Airbus A320s. This was in 2010 and I’ve been here ever since. In 2015 I became a Captain. So I left school with average results, I have done 3 different careers paths and I would not change a single thing. School results may help, but they are not the be all and end all. You don’t need good school results to succeed in life, you need determination and belief in yourself. Never give up and remember, as life goes on, the ambitions you have now may change as you get older. Regards Robert from Bury Manchester UK presently living in Qatar in the Middle East

Maya, you’re smart, articulate and thoughtful. And your grades, while disappointing to you, are not bad at all. Truth is you can probably do a degree this year but it’s not a bad idea to take time off and resit.
1). Use your time to travel, maybe learn a language.
2). Consider working for your MP, or intern at some unique places. See what’s on offer working for government or the big tech firms.
3). You probably know your A Level material so think about what can give you the edge to give you a better grade over your peers. Don’t underestimate exam technique. Also see what it takes to apply to the top universities aside from grades. Maybe it’s also outstanding contributions to community or your town.
4). To make you stand out consider writing a book or start your own podcast, do something different before you head to university which you will.
You’re already exceptional- don’t worry, you’ll be fine. I failed an important exam but it was a bad moment at a bad time and didn’t define me. I bounced back, you will too!
