Yes i'm all for using your scraps. An extra seam here and there, because you needed to sew two scraps together, only gives more character to the garment :)
Oh Alisa, you have great ideas, I never thought about giving scraps for my little one. Here she is busy with them and I am peacefully doing my office work (-:
I love sewing scraps together to make a patchwork piece and then make doll clothes or wall art. My mother made pin cushions stuffed with fabric that are heavy enough to be pattern or paper weights.
Also. ...... Corner bookmarks rag wreaths, jewellery rag rugs Patchwork animals/toys Trims and flounces Stuffing material Collage art work either stitched to canvas or needle felted into background Key fobs Coffee cup holders. This inspiration is totally started by watching this video. So many amazing ideas Alisa yet again. That white qnd green T is such a lovely garment.
My scrap bins are filling up yet again and these are fabulous ways to use them! I always struggle with the knits so thank you for the ideas. Now just to find the time to do it!
The little label idea is so cute. I've been thinking recently about turning my scraps into fabric buttons for future projects, which would be a great way to use up those smaller scraps!
Oh yes yes, I have done my own resin buttons on the channel, but not fabric covered ones yet. I have seen some very simple kits for it and it looks pretty straight forward. Imagine having a bit of wonderful print left over and turning it into a gorgeous set of buttons! He he, we are both excited now, lol 😂
I only just watched your resin button video yesterday, so that's probably why it was in my mind! 😂 I also recently watched an old Q&A you did where you mentioned you used to live in Manchester and highly recommend Abakhan fabrics - I discovered them last October when I was in Manchester, which is before I found your channel! I'm looking forward to catching up on all your old videos 😊
You have some great ideas here - thank you! Another idea that my mom's friend does is fills pillows with tiny scraps and donates them to her local animal shelter. I have been saving mine for my 1st scrappy project. You've given me more to think about!
I use scraps as filling for pillows, stuffed animals and lavender bags to protect woolen clothes from moths. And I use scraps to repair clothes. These long jersey strips are perfect to stitch under the worn out seams of a jeans. I also use these strips to tie vegetable plants in my garden like tomatoes.
I love how unique your ideas are, not just sewing them together to create a new patchwork fabric (which I also love). Such original and creative ideas, thanks so much for sharing ♥️
Oh my gosh Alisa 😱 I love love love the gold tags. I have labels but I like yours better. How special to see a little gold tag in your garments. This is genius. 👌🏼👌🏼😊
These are refreshing! I use mine for inside pockets and trim. The fabric pockets show a bit on the outside and people want to know where I “bought” my pants. 😊. Also, I use scraps inside hems. It’s so pretty when I take off a pair of jeans I’ve made to glance down at the hem and see a floral print. But I love your ideas! I’m not quite brave enough yet to attempt making a top, but it’s on my list.
My favorite use of fabric scraps that I’ve done (besides pocket bags) is when I quilted scraps in matching colors together to make a big panel of fabric! I used that material to make some fabric pattern weights, but it would also be very cute for throw pillows or tote bags
Love the use of scraps to tag the back!! Have you ever done padded appliqué? You can use the tiniest scraps for padding which I’ve found makes it more washable.
@@rachelburgener819 You’ll want to practice first which is a great way to use up more scraps. I think she may have a video about it already. Basically you leave open a wee bit of the appliqué and stuff it. Just push in tiny scraps with a pen or other pokey tool until you like it and can still finish stitching it down. It takes a lot of time.
This such a good idea! 🥰Why did I never think of this ? 😮. Thanks for the idea! I love to finish facings with biastape so this will certainly work for me!
@Maria CANCER so sorry fior your health problems. I know how difficult it is to have a channel when your health is really not cooperating. My severe chronic disease makes it very hard to make videos especially if yiu want to post consistently. Stay strong and try to keep creative. It helps me at least a lot to stay mentally sane. 🙏🏻
I love to piece quilts out of my fabric scraps. You have a lot of wonderful ideas for them also. I save my loose threads to put out on the driveway for the birds to use as nesting material in the spring. I save the pieces that are too tiny (to make anything out of) are saved to be used as filling in future projects; however, some people save them to fill old pillow cases to make dog beds for the rescue center.
Such great ideas! Didn’t think of using scraps for art! 🎉 I have many cotton scraps and I have been sewing oven mitts 🧤 with them. Already made nine! I also have been using ugly, no good quality fat quarters for the lining (that I bought when I knew nothing about fabric 😅!) so these don’t go to waste too 🎉🎉. Win win 🏆
you can fold the fabric on the bias and cut using a roller slicer makes cutting bias tape so much easier and quicker just search it in the YT search bar there are quite a bit of videos on it. Making my own bias tape has also been a huge game changer.
Great video!! Love the examples ! The bias tape truly inspired me! Many of my scraps are smaller then 4 cm and I’ve been piecing them and then using those pieces of “new fabric” to make something.
Thank you for such a good video! Excellent ideas!!! Great job. Love the clothing made from different colors for different parts of the shirt. And the applique. But then I'm a quilter. :) (used to be only garment construction).
These are great ideas Alisa, thank you so much. I have used the bias tape and fabric label in the past, but I will definitely try the applique and kids arts and crafts 😊 such a great idea. Btw I have that Frozen green fabric too 🙂👍 have a lovely day.
I haven't made too many clothing items for myself, but I have sewed many doll clothes. That's actually how I started learning about clothing construction...and I used a lot of scraps. When my daughters grew out of some of their favorite clothing, they asked me to make their old clothes doll size for their dolls to wear. It was fun when my girls were little, but they have grown out of playing with dolls. I haven't, though, so I continue to make doll clothes and purchased myself my own doll. I'm excited to make more clothes for myself, though, at some point. If your daughter likes dolls, she might love for her doll to have some clothes that match hers. In my opinion, the doll stage doesn't last long enough.
@@ilnacastelyn6310 I got my first 18" doll at Walmart, and I get my patterns on PixieFaire. But I made my few first patterns. It's a lot of fun! The different brands of 18" dolls are all a little different in size, so keep that in mind if you ever want to sell what you make.
Love your suggestions for scraps. Also that shirt you are wearing is beautiful. Love the sleeves! I took a picture to see if one day when I’m good like you I will try to make it. Is it a pattern or did you make it up?
Hello there! The shirt is self-drafted (there is a mini-series for Members only on drafting a button-up shirt from bodice block) and the sleeve is one of my variations, it is actually very easy to make, it is one of the sleeves I made in this video, I promise you can make that sleeve so easily - ruclips.net/video/ncpuuwJ3DgA/видео.html
I have a Members Only mini-series on drafting and sewing a button up shirt from bodice block (this is one of the variations) and the cuff detail is in one of the video about "5 different sleeve cuffs".
Self-drafted and I made the sleeve myself, the tutorial is on the channel, I just posted it again this morning on my community tab - if you want to see it, you can head there and take a look :)
Cutting bias tape from scrap fabric is a great idea but how do you find the bias weave of the fabric when it’s a weird cut shape? I love your videos! You have such good ideas!
Good question and I explain that in detail in the "10 best tips for sewing with fabric scraps" video, it is the video link in the pinned comment right underneath this video - take a look :)
Such good ideas. I have a few bags of scraps. One cotton one that I had, I made dog scarfs and this fleece and faux leather I made dog shoes, so their feet won't get cut going over sharp pieces of ice outside, and it helps them to keep a bit warmer when it is very cold outside. That's painful even for a dog. I don't think a cat would be very happy at all having to wear shoes.
I keep all my tiny scraps, I keep them all for stuffing, anything. By tiny scraps I mean less than 2” wide and less than 3” long. Larger scraps like you are showing, I make into quilts, because my scraps are never wide enough to use for bias tape.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Also neck pillows, I like to make them out of hand towels because there is so much variety, including buying monogrammed ones when making them for kith and kin.

Charlotte, hello there - you can... but with knits you don't need to cut on the bias. Wovens are cut on the bias as it has the most give in the fabric and is the best to go around the curves like necklines and armhole. With knits you don't have to do that, but also you might find it a lot harder to work with tiny pieces of knit that with woven fabric.
